Last night at the NWTF banquet I won a Remington 597. It is an autoloading 22. It has a gray Synthetic stock and a black barrel. I can upgrade to Stainless when I go pick it up today for a little extra money. ($20-$30). Is this a good rifle? I currently have a Henry lever action 22. I am not sure if I will keep it, trade it for something else, or sell it. What do you all think?

Hey man... Congrats on winning the gun.. I say keep both guns. Depending on what your gonna use the new gun for, don't upgrade to stainless. Stainless looks nice but is too flashy for the woods. A black or blued barrel is perfect for hunting.

Congrats. However make sure you get some of the metal clips for it. The springs in the plastic clips (ones that come with the gun) are too weak and causes it not to cycle or reload. It also causes jams from this. The metal clips work perfectly and can be bought from cabelas. Also like Joe said, the blued or black barrel would be better for hunting but the stainless in my opinion would look better. I wanted my .17 HMR barrel stainless but they only had one in blued and I didn't want to wait for them to order it. So I just bought the blued. Really it's all personal choice. But congrats again.

Congrats! Its always good to win something!.
Remington don't make garbage, they make some good guns. Since its for free, I'd keep it. It wouldnt be my 1st choice for a romfire, but since its free...HEY! what more could you ask? Blue is beter for concealment and stainless is less maintainance.
I like blue and wood.

I've got the same gun with the stainless, metal clips and a scope. I like it. Didn't have to do much of anything to sight it in. It's real accurate. I mainly use it for rabbits and squirrels so the stainless barrel isn't a big concern.
