Eric and I took off Thursday evening and headed from central PA to the NW corner of PA. We did have some travel challanges with several snow whiteouts both on the way up and back. We stayed and hunted at a farm smack dab in the middle of the Lake Erie snow belt. It did not disappoint us either. Sat afternoon we had one snow shower that dropped over an inch of new snow in about a half hour. All together there were 6 of us chasing deer with flintlocks. Everyone but Eric had their chance to score but only one deer fell in the two days. My shot was nearly 100 yds and some brush but you can't score if you don't shoot. Just like around here there were turkeys everywhere and I am invited to go there this spring.

Sounds promising Paul...Have you hunted there before?
I have to tell ya...
I give you flinty guys a heck of a lot of credit for going out in the storm and facing possible ignition issues with the snow cool.gif .

Went out here near the house this morning. We have about an inch of snow and the temp just before I left the house was 8 degrees f. Good thing there was no wind or I would have been an icicle. Didn't see any deer even though a storm was on the horizon. I thought maybe they would be out stocking up on the grocerys this morning but no such luck. I did find a couple of new trails that Eric and I are going to be on Friday. Lots of turkey tracks and yote tracks too.

Anthony, we have hunted this farm for a few years now but we still have a lot to learn about the land.

And Charles m...... this is OUR flintlock season, I have hunted this season for 28 years now and there aren't to many guys in this part of the state that go out. It seperates the men from the boys. LOL

We can hunt deer in PA starting in October through mid november with archery equipment. Also in there is a 1 week concurrent muzzleloader doe season providing you have drawn a doe permit. Your general license in PA entitles you to shoot a buck anywhere in the state and doe permits are on a draw basis for specific wildlife Management Units. Sometimes you can draw a couple of doe permits providing there are leftover permits but this year there were no leftover tags for where I live, at camp, or at the farm. There is a 2 week period of no deer hunting from mid november to late november/early december but that is turkey season anyhow. The first two weeks of december is our modern firearms deer season generally called Buck season and for the past few years our doe season runs concurrent with this season. Then there is another two week period and then the day after Christmas till mid january is our flintlock season and a concurrent late season archery season. These dates may vary a little across the state but we do have a lot of opportunity to hunt deer here in PA providing you bring your rubbers tongue.gif .

Paul, you can't deer hunt over Thanksgiving Weekend?

Without special permits we can typically hunt whitetail during October(Archery) Nov, Dec general gun(bucks n does) and 2 weeks of Jan for spikes and does. Our license comes with 5 whitetail tags, no more than 2 can be bucks. But you can use all 5 on does if you want. 2 mule deer tags, one buck, one doe. 4 turkey tags. Gobblers only in the Spring and either sex in the Fall. Then of course we have exotics 24/7/365. Rubbers optional, but strongly recommended. Health and safety is important.
