The last few days my younger brother AJ has been bugging me to take him out chipmunk hunting. Today I gave in and took him. I had noticed a few chipmunks living in our drainage pipe in the woods so I decided to set out some birdseed about 20 yards from the hole and we set up about another 20 yards from the hole. So after I saw the chipmunks on the seed earlier in the morning, I decided to take him out. We got dressed into our camo and went out. It had been raining all day, but we went out when it had stopped for a few hours. So after sitting there for about 10 minutes, out popped what appeared to be a female, I lifted up my gun looked through my scope and- MY SCOPE WAS FOGGED! I had to pass up on the shot and wait until my scope got to the temperature of outside. The A/C was on inside the house and that temperature change caused the dang thing to fog. That chipmunk stuffed its face and then took off into the hole. So then about 5 minutes later, the scope was unfogged. That same chipmunk popped out of the hole again and moved towards the seed. As soon as it reached the seed, I made a soft kissing noise and it stood up and looked the other way, I made the shot, but hit a little bit lower than the vitals and took out the spine. This chipmunk appeared to be a female because of it's short tail, but it turns out that it was a male missing half of it's tail. Don't know how that happened. Then a few minutes later, another male came out of that hole and I made a perfect neck shot. That was that.
These are chipmunks number 7 & 8 on the season for me.
