Well the wind blasted me off the beach but i did catch two short bass in the back bay. I really was trying for the trout but i guess that is why they call it fishing and not catching.

I have some large striped bass right here about 3 miles from the house. The Hudson river is right here. Bass of 30-40lbs right off shore is common. Most use bunker chunks and clam bellies from shore. My sons and I usually fish the Hudson in late summer for blues, snappers and stripers. The kids have a ball, and I run around all day helping them get fish off the hooks. These saltwater babies have some nasty choppers and they WILL take a piece of you if you give them a chance.

Myself and others in the town are leading a rebellion of some sort with the local power plant about the amount of hot water that is released into the river and the fact that they do NOT want to update their water intake(cooling) facilities with newer equipment to save roughly 362 million fish a year. NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation is leading this charge to get the power plant to update. They have lots of money and they can drag this out a longtime, luckily the state is on our side.
The Hudson River is a BIG spawning ground for the Striped Bass. Where I am on the Hudson, it is brackish water...salt water and fresh mixed.

I used to fish the James River in VA as a kid. I still prefer a boat or the beach

I'm catching bass but only 1 keeper this weekend. The good news is the trout finaly showed up in good numbers. Caught about 30 in 2 days but only kept 1 each day to eat (they don't freeze well). Is anyone else having any luck? sterb094[1].gif
