Title: Splatterhouse 3 cartridge markings?
Description: What the fuck?

I've never bothered to look on the back of my Splatterhouse 3 cartridge until recently so I never noticed this before... But my cartridge has some strange markings that appear to be burned in by some type of heating device. Perhaps aliens abducted my cartridge and performed experiments on it then marked it. On top of that, the markings don't appear to be English letters with the exception of one that looks somewhat like the letter A. I took a picture of this to show you, but it's a little blurry.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I highly doubt it is. None of my other Genesis games have this marking.

Is it a pre-owned cartridge?

Yeah, it is. I got it along with Doom 64 at a flea market a long time ago. I guess whoever owned it last burned this weird shit into the cart for whatever reason. But why the hell would they do that? That's actually a lot worse than putting stickers on the cartridge. It still works, but man that's weird.

Might be an ex-rental, or even a review/promotional copy.

Well I do know that it came in the original box, but I see no signs of anything strange on the box so I'm guessing it's an old rental copy and for whatever reason the store burned shit into it.
That or these symbals are actually ancient texts from Hell and my copy of Splatterhouse 3 is possessed by Satan.

Most like a security measure, so the cartridges can be identified if someone stole them. The markings are permanent, so can't be peeled off like stickers.

Try reciting them backwards....maybe it'll open the gateway for Cthulhu to pass through into our world. :p :lol
That is pretty weird though, seems a little extreme for a rental place.

This makes the most sense so far. I buy a lot of old NES and Genesis games, especially at flea markets or the Internet, and I have to admit this is the first time I've ever seen anything marked like this. It does seem a little extreme though like 'King said, but I have no other explanation...Also, after taking a second look at the box itself I noticed a small sticker on it that said "64/SG". So this definitely seems like an old rental. Maybe this business had a big problem with theft, or people renting and not returning.
Just to be safe though, I'm going to keep a cross nearby...
