Okay, I posted this on Gamefaqs, but I wanted to post this here cause this is the only other place I've found so far that even talks about this game, and I really need to talk about this, to the point I'm willing to make a new account here.

At the start of the game, Rick makes a deal with Terrormask. Terrormask will give Rick the strength he needs to save Jennifer, and Rick will wear Terrormask until Jen is finally saved. That's the deal.

Well, as we all know by now, at the ending, one of the corrupted flies out of the portal from the Abyss into Jen's body, and evidently possessing her. Rick tries to take off Terrormask, but Terrormask refuses to separate, claiming the deal isn't over.

Okay, the deal is not over. Jennifer is not saved.

Now, rewind back to Phase 3. Right near the end of the stage, Terrormask tells Rick that this is the future thirteen months after Rick fails to save Jenny. The corrupted take over the Earth once again, destroying it and mankind, turning it into one giant Silent Hill.

I have a few questions about that.
First, how did Terrormask know that Phase 3 was the future? How did he know exactly what it was, and the circumstances in which it happened?
Second, if this was indeed the future, where was Terrormask, Rick, and possibly even Jenny? Shouldn't Rick and Terrormask be out there somewhere fighting against the Corrupted influence?

And here's something else. In the Journal entries of Dr. West, he mentions how he first came about the Terrormask, saying he was stranded on some timeless island with a bunch of natives worshiping Terrormask as a sacrificial ritual. Dr. West takes Terrormask back with him to his mansion and studies him, giving up quickly in frustration as he can't divulge any of the mask's secrets. And in the game, Terromask says that he was once a slave of the corrupted, only making an escape from them "through a crack no bigger than a white lie". Dr. West even comments on this unknowingly in his Journals, stating that the Necronomicon made mention of a renegade that escaped from the Abyss. Now, the interesting thing is, the Corrupted apparently told him this was a lie.

Why would they tell him that? Or maybe, it wasn't a lie. . .at least, not in the big picture it wasn't.

And another thing, the Abyss is a place beyond both space AND time. So it's possible that when Terrormask escapes, it might not be from a location, but rather a frame of time.

Here's a timeline of events that I think happened inside the game, starting all the way back at the very beginning.

Rick finds Terrormask
Rick puts on Terrormask, making a deal that lasts until Jennifer is safe in his arms.
They fight together
In Phase 3, they wind up through a portal into the future.
Terrormask reveals to Rick that this is the future thirteen months after he FAILS to save Jennifer
They keep fighting
They get to the end
It turns out that Terrormask was using Rick as a means to summon the corrupted to get his revenge on them for enslaving him.
They beat back the corrupted, but as they do so, something flies out from (what I'm assuming is) the Abyss, landing itself inside Jennifer's body.
Rick tries to take off the Terrormask, Terrormask refuses; claims that the deal is not over.
Rick and Jennifer(?) embrace, Jen opens her eyes, it's clear she's being possessed by something
He's failed to save Jenny
Thirteen months later
World is taken over by corrupted
Rick is presumed dead
Terrormask is enslaved once more to the corrupted
Jenny is still possessed
Eons of this pass by; Terrormask gets fed up
Escapes through a crack in the Abyss
Winds up on an island obscured by the mists of time
West discovers Terrormask, brings him back to the mansion
West can't pry the secrets from Terrormask. Puts Terrormask back in the Sarcophagus
West discovers a sacrifice for his ritual
Jenny and Rick both come over to Dr. West's mansion
West kidnaps Jenny, kills Rick
Rick lays there dying
Rick finds Terrormask.

It's an interesting theory and completely plausible given the logic inside the Splatterhouse game world. It adds a little extra to the fairly mundane 'future' level (before the meat factory)-that the mask had been there before (and sheds a whole new light on the comment that he knows who Biggyman is).

On the other hand, the mask is shown to be aware of different universes across space and time (given some of his conversations with Rick about his 'always being a killer, in another place, in another game'). So it's possible that the mask simply 'knows'-in the best Cthulhu Mythos tradition, it exists at all points across time and space simultaneously.

However, while I can't really elaborate, it doesn't seem to be what the designers had in mind for continuing the series. It seems something more traditional was planned.

I had an idea.

What if Splatterhouse (2010) ISN'T a remake, but an actual sequel to Splatterhouse 3?

At the end of Splat 3, Rick thinks that he destroyed the Mask. But what if the Mask wasn't destroyed? What if it went to an alternate Earth, with an alternate Rick and Jenny? AKA, Splatterhouse (2010).

Or maybe it's all the same universe and the same Rick? And they just keep doing this forever, and Rick hasn't noticed? Like, Rick gets "rebirthed" or something.

I mean, that could help explain the "You were a killer in another life, in another game." thing.
