Title: Just say "no" to Valentine's Day

Dire 51 - February 8, 2012 04:15 PM (GMT)
Finally have the time and motivation to write a new blog entry. Oddly, this happens when I'm sick with a major head cold. I don't get it.

Anyway, there hasn't been a lot going on. I have yet to even think about writing that blog entry on bullying, so don't expect that anytime soon. I've been starting to kick in some more overtime where I work, plus I'm searching for a new vehicle. It's past time I had one again.

I've also been planning an Anti-Valentine's Day Party. Note that I didn't say it was an anti-relationship, anti-love or anti-couples party. Rather, it's a get together for those that don't like what Valentine's Day has come to stand for. I'm not expecting a whole bunch of angry, bitter single people to attend, although I'm sure there will be a few in attendance. No, I wanted to do it as an excuse to get together with a bunch of friends and associates who feel the same way and knock back a few beers.

Of course, I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a little stereotypical "Valentine's Day sucks" coming out of it from me. But those who know me well know that I do have a damned good reason for feeling that way. And no, it's not the whole "lack of relationship" thing. I'll just say that the phrases "soul-shattering events" and "no good deed goes unpunished" are very closely connected here.

Until next time...

Valentines Day is what you make it... though most people do tend to get caught up in the main stream marketing. That being said, I can understand where you are coming from.

This is the first time I'm ever going to be doing a Valentine's day thing. It's more of office poilitics though. To me, it seems like V-day is pretty much a woman's equivalent of a dick measuring contest. "Who's got the biggest bouquet of flowers with the most balloons and cutest teddy bear". Yuck! My best excuse for not doing Valentine's day is that there is no reason for it. I say that I'd rather love you every day of the year instead of just one.

I'm not gonna slam Valentine's Day, despite never having a serious relationship. I see it as a happy occasion for one reason: This year, it will mark my little sister's 9th Anniversary.

EDIT: Crap! Did I say 10th? My bad.

I love Valentine's Day-it's my favorite 'holiday', even more than Halloween. What could be better than having your gal primed for some traditional romance? And even better, in Japan Valentine's Day is for women to gift men! Men reciprocate on 'White Day' in March-so you get two romantic holidays for the price of one. It's win-win! As long as you take it as an opportunity to let your sweetie know how much they're appreciated (something I do everyday, but like having an excuse to go overboard) and ignore the more commercial aspects, it's great.

Hmm. Perhaps another reason to want to go to Japan for me. :lol

Anyway, because of the subject matter of this entry, I'd like to present the greatest Valentine's Day song ever recorded. Forget all of those love songs and ballads and all that other romantic garbage - Peter Steele told it like it really is.

Type O Negative - "The Dream Is Dead"

And here's the lyrics for you:

Champagne glass of blood and wine
On chocolate hearts alone I dine
Candles weeping waxing tears
Ten for roses each one a year - disappear

Arrows fester in my heart
Each memory another dart
Love and death both colored red
Showing my past, the dream is dead

Another lonely Valentine's Day
I can't believe that things turned out this way
And though I hate to see you go
I know it must be so
Another lonely Valentine's Day

Nobody will break your fall
All for none, yeah, none for all
Nothing's so cruel as the truth
Join the Festival of Fools

Nobody will break your fall
All for one, yeah, none for all
Nothing's so cruel as the truth
Join the festival, my fools

Another lonely Valentine's Day
I can't believe that things turned out this way
And though I hate to see you go
I know it must be so
Another lonely Valentine's Day

The dream is dead

I couldn't give less than two Christs about Valentine's Day. Never been in a relationship, not currently looking for one, and not really into the whole atmosphere of the holiday.

Not to sound pseudo-solipsistic, but I care much more about my own birthday, three days prior. ;)
