For every realized possibility, a thousand others are eliminated.

"When the timelines were merged, we were shunted off into the lower planes of reality. The outlying regions surrounding the Well of Souls, specifically." He rotated one arm to work out a cramp. "I thought we could work our way back to the new timeline, but... distance doesn't work the same. I lost the path."

"Yes. We did. And we didn't deserve to."

What happens to those choices, those paths not taken?

"She's not ready yet," Ceriel objected. "She still needs time."

"Ready or not," Michael said, "we need her."

"NO!" Ceriel shouted. "You are going in. Because you can. Because this. Is. Your. FAULT!"

How do you confront the demons from your past when they become the ghosts from your future?

"What do I want?" Azrael said. "I want my life back! Do you even know why you're here? Who's supposed to be here, and who's not?"

On December 29, history repeats itself. For the first time.

Hiryu plummeted down those twenty meters, the wind roaring in his ears, and caught the Emperor Dragon's side with his hook as he fell past. He swung up onto its back and immediately catapulted into the air to avoid an electric pulse along its length.

It roared, the same sound the Ouroboros made in Kazakh, all those years ago. Hiryu sprinted along its length to its head, which swiveled to face him. Two small arms shot out to grab him, but he ducked beneath them. He leapt to avoid another electric pulse and one of the arms punched him in the ribs.

Kazekage shot to one side, darting around Kirin's general area in a circle, leaving dozens of his own blue afterimages in his wake. Kirin attacked them all in turn, randomly, allowing his afterimages to do the work for him. Unlike Kaze, Kirin seemed to have an upper limit on the number of duplicates he could leave behind. No more than four were on the ice at a time.

WHAM!

One of Kirin's duplicates caught him in the stomach with a roundhouse kick and he went sprawling across the ice.

As soon as they saw the Marrow Lords, the guards started yelling into their walkies in Chinese. They edged towards the nearest elevator, backing away from the misshapen demons, while trying to hold them off with bullets. The bullets didn't faze the Marrow Lords any more than they had Azrael. They blasted right through the demons' pomegranate flesh and the wounds reclosed behind them.

Raven jerked the stick to the right and the Vic Viper narrowly rolled out of the way of a massive beam of plasma, fired by the Ballog. The beam caught dozens of fighters in its path, pulverizing them into dust all around Raven. The Ballog itself headed upwards, out of Earth's atmosphere.

The other fighters fell away as they reached their operational ceiling. Raven forced the Vic Viper to follow after the Ballog, pushing the afterburners to maximum and keying the system to begin suborbital flight mode.

However, I would like to apologize on the premises that I will be at a friend's house from Friday to Tuesday (mostly to play a lot of video games), and hence, I might not be able to stay on the Internet long enough to view the prologue/first chapter on Monday. I know it's going to rule, and it's not going anywhere... unless you decide to be a royal butthole and delete it soon after you post it just to spite me. :lol
