Plus it inspired the team that made Golden Axe... which may be a good or a bad thing, depending on how much you hate fighting the skeleton warriors.

At any rate, I love this bit. I must pick up the DVD at some point.

I remember watching this in junior high. Unlike some of the other kids, I was enthralled.

Aye, there's something really threatening about them despite them being animated bones. They always got my back up in Golden Axe. lol, reminds me, I used to glitch up the magic counter with some method back then to deal with really tough ones later on in the game. :lol

Years ago before DVD's took off or were even talked about I tried to get Jason and the Argonauts on VHS but couldn't find it. Even had a video store try to place a custom order but they couldn't get hold of it. I really should pick this up on DVD too.

I had it on VHS, but it wasn't an original. Rather, someone had taped it off of cable for me. And as far as Golden Axe is concerned, I hate those bastards, yet at the same time I absolutely love them. Weird, eh?

Fun fact: as I recall, the skeletons in Army of Darkness were heavily inspired by this sequence. Sam Raimi even requested that they have the Harryhausen-style brows.

When I think back to the Mega Drive days I always remember the purple ones knocking me off a cliff, lol. Very memorable.

Aye I was going to say too, the ending of AoD looked like they took alot of inspiration from that Argonauts scene. Except for the parts where they have them moving about via broomhandles or something. :lol

Well, as far as I know there was no stop motion used in AoD, which would explain that.

You've got me watching playthroughs of Golden Axe 2 now, lol. That game was ace. :rtfo

I think there's the odd scene where they are animated. At least Evil Ash's skeleton, not too sure now that you mention it. I'll have to dig out my copy now and watch it next heh-heh-heh.

I was thrilled when I found a complete copy at a Goodwill back at the beginning of the year for $2 or so. :smug You'd better believe I snapped it up.

...actually, you may be right about that. I'll have to watch it again myself and find out. :smug

Some scenes, like Evil Ash walking along the graveyard while his skeleton minions come to life, blended stop-motion animation with live skeletons that were mechanically rigged, with prosthetics and visual effects.

There you have it.

Thread title made me think of Altered Beast.

Anyway, I don't know why, but the skeleton warriors seem to stick in a lot of people's brains (including mine). Something about the concept is just ultimately awesome.

Thanks! Of course, I'm still going to have to watch the film again. :smug

Maybe it's just me but 'user posted images' don't show up like half the time. I whacked refresh a few times, and the one I posted shows up at least some of the time, for me anyway.

Anyway, it's just Spinal from Killer Instinct. ^_^

Yeah, the "user posted image" tag usually indicates a broken link. In this case, all I'm getting is a hotlink redirect image from the Killer Instinct Arena.

Ah, that's what I thought. Nice.

So are these skeletons made from clay or something?

When I first watched this film I was like 3 or 4. The funny thing is I remember watching the terminator the night before and since they both looked like they have the same animation or something and they both look like skeletons, I then thought both films were from the same series (I still laugh at this today ). :lol

(To tell the truth, the skeletons made me have nightmare!)
