One hundred years ago today, at 02:20 AM (05:18 GMT), the RMS Titanic sank due to damage she sustained from colliding with an iceberg (at 11:40 PM, April 14th). 1,514 souls went with her to the bottom of the North Atlantic.

I'd like to have a moment of silence for those that went down with her, those that have passed on since that were there that night (which is all of the survivors) and for the ship herself.

...

And for those of you that can't disassociate the actual historical event from James Cameron's 1997 film, just stop right there before you make a lame comment. Then go read this.

EDIT: RAISE THE TITANIC

Too bad the book is inaccurate now. Would have loved to have seen it made into a GOOD movie.

The best part of that horrible flick, ladies and gentlemen.

You and me both. But given how Cussler's never going to trust anyone in Hollywood with one of his books ever again, we know that'll never happen...

Not sure if you watched the video, but if you didn't, here's the scoop: in both the book and the film, the Titanic is shown to have survived the sinking in one piece. Cussler wrote the book in the early '70s (published in '76) and the movie released in 1980 - but the ship wasn't found until 1985. So there's no way that Cussler or the filmmakers could have known she'd split in two during the sinking, especially since reports from the survivors varied greatly. Some said she went down intact, some said she snapped in two.

The video wasn't there and the book cover I posted had stopped showing up when he replied to my post. So he might not have knows what I was referring to.

I think it is time for me to give that book another read.

I heard somewhere that they were raising funds and gathering volunteers, relatives of the people who were on the ship that unfortunate night, to replicate the whole journey of the Titanic.

There was a cruise ship retracing the route, don't know about any relatives.
