Look what i've casually found today playing splatterhouse 3.
If you beat the first level very fast (with time left > 3.00 min) jennifer isn't infested by the boreworm and rick goes directly to the third floor, passing through a special zone x. Take a look at these screens: (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) I haven't seen this in any splatterhouse dedicated site or faqs. I don't know if this leads to a new ending or some sort of other bonuses. I submitted this to mobygames too. |

Somehow I bet there is more stuff to find via hacking into the HEX or whatever people do to find secret stuff. I have been tempted to look through the SH roms with a sprite viewer.

No problem. Just trying to keep from having a massive jumble of Splatterhouse topics about the new game and the classics in one place.

Yes, the cutscene is also in the Japanese version but you have to beat the game in less time than it takes in the American version (three minutes US, two minutes J-version). Getting it is MUCH harder in the JP version, because you don't have the all powerful spin kick to trash the final boss quickly (that and the fact that the clock is running while the boss is introduced and Rick can only stand there, and continues to run for several seconds after you beat the boss-wastes a lot of your limited time). In the same thread (which I can't find either, since it's been archived) I believe I have all the special Strange Zones listed (only two take place in the 'cave')-but level one is the only level where you can skip over another. And who would want to do that and miss the giant boreworm? He needs to be in the new game! |

Very interesting.I never discovered the big X zone of level two.
By the way,the boreworm is one of the coolest bosses in all the saga.I just like hear it's sadistic laugh and watching him explode. It's fun to hack him with the cleaver without transforming in monster rick. :) |

Rob, there's this hugeass password tree at GameFAQs - http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/code/586483.html - could it be at least part of what you're looking for? |

For what it’s worth, here’s the Brickster’s password tree (made back in the day) for Splatterhouse 3:
A little explanation: the numbers on the top represent the level the passwords under it will take you to (obviously, there are no passwords for level 1). An ‘S’ next to the password means that it will take you to the regular Strange Zone before the actual level; ‘Y’ means the previous level was beaten with time on the clock (but not fast enough to get the Strange Zone). ‘N’ means the previous level was beaten with the clock having run out. The two passwords in the upper left of the first chart are for the ‘Cave Strange Zones’ you get for completing level 1 or 2 extremely fast (at least 3 minutes left on the clock in the US versions). Numbers on the right margin show you what ending you’ll get for beating Stage 6 using that password (with 1 saving both Jen and David, 2 saving Jen but not David, 3 David but not Jen, and 4 saving neither). The top chart has the passwords gained for beating level 1 with time remaining (and everything that branches from it), and the bottom chart shows the passwords gained for beating level 1 with no time remaining (and everything that branches from it). (Posted Image) (Posted Image) As you can see, in some levels (3, 5, and 6) it makes no difference if you beat it with time remaining or not. Note that there is no Strange Zone before level 6, and if Jen dies in level 1, you will not be able to get a Strange Zone before level 3 no matter how well you do in beating level 2. |

I have to say, I prefer Brick's password tree. That shows some dedication from a longtime fan, not just a bunch of text on GameFAQs. On that subject, you should have seen the scads of password pages I used to have for the early Castlevania games. I had a folder full of them. Unfortunately, they all went in the Great Crash of '04. There's a slim possibility that I could get them back... |

Same here, complete password documentation for both (yes, every stage with every character in III). I also had complete sets for Bloodlines, Castlevania Dracula X (SNES) and was working on a complete set for Castlevania II when the Crash happened.

It's a no-contest, really - I just wound up on GameFAQs seeing if there was a faster route than the one I pick for the first stage in SH3 because I was trying to get the non-infected Jen cutscene myself, and failing miserably. :rollin' Then I stumbled on it, and thought it could be useful. One thing, not to bump the old SH3 details thread, but half-related, since it'd be another difference from the Japanese release to the western ones: in my first playthrough of SH3, me and my brother made it to the Giant Boreworm just after seeing the Jen-with-blank-eyes-and-poppy-veins-in-her-head cutscene. What with the text saying "You didn't save her in time", when we turned the Boreworm into a fumbling piece of lifeless hell flesh, we got the "She's gone, Rick. You fucking suck" cutscene. And then I saw this playthrough on Youtube of the US version where the guy got the same cutscene, but upon beating the level Jen was safe and sound - DESPITE the text. So, in the end you have more time to save her in the US release than the Japanese one? |

I had always wondered about that myself-I think what happened is that the 'You didn't save her in time' cutscene plays a certain number of minutes into the level, and since you get more time in the US version, shows up before time has expired (at 1:00 left, I think-unlike the J-version where it shows up at 0:00). So in the US version you still have a minute to get the job done. |

Well, the quickest route for level one is going up through the three small rooms and then going to the boss room.To spare time, kill the boss using monster rick's gut move: it really saves up time.Three or four hits and he is gone fast.Choking and piledriving him leads to consuming a lot of time.My best time in US version vas 3.15 min left. A question: so in the japanese version, the cutscene which shows at 0.0 time left with mindless jennifer and the text saying "disfigured by the boreworm, not even rick can recognize her,she is changed forever" is missing? I have to try... |

You'll have to excuse my hazy memory-can't say for sure if you get one, the other, or both one after the other. It might even show up at 1:00. All of my recent playthroughs of the J-version have been pretty quick and never gotten either cutscene. The gutbuster move (in the J-version), while easier to pull off than the US version (two button press versus the 'back and forth pad plus button' move), is also a lot weaker and really drains the 'orb' bar quickly (it doesn't drain at a constant rate like the US version). Even three or four won't do it. I found the fastest way seemed to be to transforming into monster Rick and then dealing out the standard combo, not hitting the last button, and repeating. Even when I have gotten the 'skip level' in the J-version, I'd be lucky to have a second or two left. |
