I thought this was too good to be true because I couldn't find news about it anywhere else. Have you guys heard anything about this and is it credible or just some dude fooling around?

Heard a blurb on the radio the other night on the way home from work that essentially this is true. My guess is that they are buying up some real estate in Pennington Bend (the area surrounding the Opryland complex as it stands today), as many of these homes were destroyed by floods and the areas will be declared floodplain and probably non-buildable for residential purposes. They should be able to get the acreage needed for a theme park at relatively low cost, and I'm guessing the flood did some fairly serious damage to Gaylord's potential future retail revenue. It will certainly be interesting to see. I wouldn't expect any real opening before probably about 2013. We should certainly hear more details before then. |

I am very skeptical about this, and regrettably doubt that it's true. I really really really wish they didn't put a worthless mall in the place of opryland in the first place. -sigh-

i hope that when they reopen this new park that they have the decency to call it oryland and take down that darn stupid opry mills mall. i have never been to that mall and refuse to go to it when i come back to visit nashville. i think the biggest mistake they made was tearing down opryland just for that stupid mall. it hurt alot of people who loved working for opryland and those who visited. i guess they had such an uproar and out cry for closing that they had to rebuild the park nearby. SHAME ON THEM FOR EVEN TEARING THE POARK DOWN TO BEGIN WITH.

True, but with catches. I work for a company that works for Gaylord. We received an internal press release directly from Gaylord a couple of months back. There will be a park built in a joint venture between Gaylord and Dolly Parton. The first phase is a water/snow park that is set to open in 2014. At a later date, not yet specified, an amusement park will follow.
This is being built on the property on Pennington Bend, near Waffle House, I'm guessing maybe up to or including Mrs. Rudy's property. The property along the river is not being considered at this time. Very few residents of the flooded area left. Most chose to rebuild. This is a done-deal. It's just a waiting game now. Can't wait! |
