General appearance:
Melody was born with brown eyes and blonde hair as a fairly short, but thin baby. When she turned 12, her mother allowed her to dye her hair a bit darker as one of her birthday gifts. She had the brown hair until she was 19, when she made it a little bit lighter, and eventually it started to grow out that color, which is what she has now. Her face is basically a 'regular' shape, a cross between heart and circular, with a medium-high forehead.

Melody dresses fairly well, not caring too much but not wanting to look like a slob. Her family's deaths have left her a sum of money, so she's able to get pretty much everything she and Juniper require. Usually she shops at the working-class type shops, not wanting to attract too much attention to herself. Sometimes she gets dressed up to go to work if and only if they have a field op that requires doing so.

Personality: Melody is fairly friendly and works well with people. An extrovert, she’s motivated by doing the right thing, and has a very strong will (basically a nice way of saying stubborn). Mel isn’t often moody, only on bad days. She’s a realist, looking at the “glass halfway filled with liquid” instead of “full” or “empty”, which translates into her everyday life when she’s at work, seeing as there’s a good and bad side to chasing aliens.
Melody is agreeable enough to what other people have to say, however she usually has her own word to put in about whatever’s going on, and isn’t afraid to make her point known. Sometimes, she acts out of her own will without or disregarding instruction, but never in a way that could get her fired… or worse.

History:

Melody was born on August 12th, 1982 to Sebastian and Mollie Haywood, the third of five children. Her sister Samantha was four years old, (and Charlotte who was eleven, but they never really even talked) and they didn’t really fight much, at least not as much as her and Arthur, who was born three years later. Melody had a fairly hectic childhood, her parents trying to get her to do a lot of activities when she was young so she’d have a lot of choices when she grew up. As a teenager, she got fairly good grades in school, and went on to become a police constable, her dream job. (Or so she thought)

Melody had a niece, Juniper Ashton, who she adopted in 2007. The Cybermen had converted June’s parents and Melody's sister Charlotte during the Battle of Canary Warf in July. They had gotten along fairly well when they were children, as much as the age difference would allow. Juniper didn’t have family other than Melody’s side, and since she was one of the godmothers and Samantha didn't want more kids, Mel took her in. Juniper was a good kid, not making much of a fuss, and Melody mainly gave her free will as long as she did well in school. Eventually, however, Juniper left school.

When Melody was 22, she joined the police force, after studying Criminal Law at University College London. She graduated with her A levels and couldn't wait to start. Mel was a bit slow to get the hang of shooting a gun and using weapons because she was afraid that she'd accidentally forget something and hurt herself, but once she learned, she only took off her gun when she was at home.

After the Slitheen attack in 2006, Melody started to believe in aliens. Before that, if someone had said they met an alien, she'd laugh and walk away. But then, she started researching. Looking on sites like whoisdoctorwho.co.uk, when she read about The Doctor, and the blue box called the TARDIS after reading myths online. By the time the Harold Saxon reign happened, Melody was fairly far into her research. After the Dalek invasion, however, she seriously plunged into it. Her brother had been taken for testing of the Reality Bomb, and this made Mel extremely uneasy.

And then, of course, the 456. Juniper was too old to be affected by it, but it freaked them both out. At school, she was worried and wanted to figure out what was going on, so she hacked into the government, and got expelled. Now, with Juniper at home and being so alien obsessed, Juniper was doing the research while Melody was at work.

In November of 2009, Juniper came across a post online about a place called Torchwood. Being a hacker, she delved deeper and found that it was an institute dedicated to alien study. Now, they just had to find a way in, because it was obviously Melody's calling.

Then came the Atraxi. 20 minutes to save the world? Challenge accepted. Melody found her way to the video call through Juniper and through that, found Torchwood. There wasn't exactly an "interview", she simply emailed her research, met with them and eventually got hired. A few months ago, they allowed Juniper to come in and be an unpaid intern, making tea and helping out. Melody was alright with that, but always lives in fear that Torchwood would be under attack and Juniper would be caught there.

Bri realized what she was being like after Leo tried to patch things up: bitchy, cruel and annoyed-seeming. This was the exact behavior she wanted to avoid. What exactly did she achieve from being like that? "Nothing," she reminded herself chastely, and put on a smile. Not a fake one, but as real as possible. All it really was, was hard outer layer. But if she could crack that, or someone else could, they'd see the real girl underneath.

"Well excuse me, then. Like this guy over here, I just felt bad that two lovely ladies like yourselves were sitting here. Enjoying yourselves thus far, then?" Leo had said. "Yeah, I think so. Just a bit stuffy in here," she said, taking her shawl off and setting it on a chair nearby. "LIGHTEN UP!!" her brain yelled at her, but she didn't know what else to say.

Thankfully, the other guy cut into the conversation. First something about his bowtie, which Bri thought was kind of... odd, but oh well; then "What's your name, by the way? The both of you. I'm Taylor, by the way. Taylor Young." Okay... Taylor Young. Certainly not a Ravenclaw. She couldn't remember what house Abby was in, but she assumed that he wasn't in hers either.

Before she could answer, Abby added her response "Yes, I do like the bowtie, and I'm Abigail, but just call me Abby." Okay, so she also had an abbreviated name that she preferred. Brilliant. "My name's Brianna, or Bri, if you like. Either one, I guess," she added in. Seemed like Abby had a better chance with Taylor than she did, so to not cause trouble, she wouldn't really go for him unless he went for her first.

When Taylor went to go get drinks, Bri thought about that- that she was constantly second best with people, never the one to finish first. Why she kept trying was a mystery to her, why she ended up starting over. Well, either way, she may still have had a chance with Leo, if only just for the night as far as dancing. Taylor was obviously out of her league, so she was going to let that be.

"I, er... borrowed this from the serving table, since there's four of us, and quite obviously, I only have two hands. Here you go...," Taylor said when he returned. "Thanks," Bri said when he handed her the drink, and smiled. "And what exactly do you mean by borrowed?" she laughed, implying that it was 'borrowing without asking'.

When Abby started tapping on her glass, she couldn't help but get the rhythm stuck in her head. It certainly was contagious, but kept herself from starting to tap too. Wouldn't that be odd. The last thing she needed was to seem like she was copying Abigail, which she certainly wasn't trying to. Probably couldn't if she was.
