It was a cold day in the quaint mountain town of Bridges, North Dakota, population 2,554. November and the first snow had fallen the night before. Abby Cody left her home at 7:30am and began the frosty walk to school. In a small town like Bridges, even in the snow, the local highschool was only ten minutes away. But Abby never made it to school. Bridges High School made the call to Abby's parents at 9am saying she never arrived, and asking if she was sick. Her parents, John and Margaret, went into a panic. Calls were made but by noon there was still no word. A search party was formed and they scoured the town.
At exactly 5:05pm Diego Santos and his dog Collar came upon the body of Abby Sofia Cody, lying face up in the snow in the heart of the forest that surrounded Bridges. Her torso was perfectly straight, arms out to the sides, looking very much like the image of Jesus on the cross; her hair was brushed down so it smoothed across her shoulders, seemingly undisturbed and glowing golden in the sparkling light. Leaking out from under her head was a halo of red; next to the sides of her head, pristine in the stark white snow, were two crimson handprints. She was a fallen angel laid to rest.
No fingerprints, no evidence, no leads. The hand prints and blood were Abby's. No footprints disturbed the area around the body, as if someone had taken the time to smooth out the land. Cause of death: a blow to the back of the head with a blunt object. That object was not found. The fingernails of the victim had been cleaned, and so had every other possible place DNA could be found. Did she cut through the forest, thinking it was a short cut to school? It wasn't, and after living in Bridges all her life Abby would have known that. There were no signs of struggle, did she know the killer? Or did they just give off a loving vibe? She was unharmed other than the blow to her head, the perp knew what he was doing.
The town of Bridges was shocked and horrified. Perfect little Abby Cody? A booksmart girl of only sixteen with her whole life ahead of her. Everyone loved Abby, she was popular at school even though she was wholesome. She exuded confidence and kindness. Who would do such a thing? Everyone is scared for their own lives, too. Who knows if this will end with just one girl? There's a killer on the loose. But who is it? And who can you trust? Be careful and watch your back. If not, you might be next.
You never know,
