G'day..

I've got a small niggle in my GQ at the moment. The ignition/alternator light is on, but only if the revs are up (ie >2500rpm). It's only on very dimly @ 2500, but by 4000 it's fairly bright. I've only ever seen the light brighter at low revs, and goes out with higher revs, so this has got me stumped.

I tightened up everything electrical I could find tonight, but wouldn't mind some input on where to start looking if that hasn't helped.

Alternator was rebuilt by a supposedly reputable place in Carrum Downs just before the last school holidays.

Just in case it makes any difference, my dual battery solenoid/relay seems to be playing up a bit at the moment - sometimes I'm getting 14v at idle at the aux postive lead, but other times it will be down at ~9v (the main will still be at 14v at the time).

Cheers

Macca

Hmm.. Curiouser and curiouser.. blink.gif

After tightening up everything last night, voltage has increased slightly.

On the down side, the light is still coming on at high(er) revs. Now the interesting bit - it's not the ignition/battery light after all. It's the HANDBRAKE light.. huh.gif

Unless someone has other ideas, it looks like I'm off to see the auto-elec again. angry.gif

Solved!! (I think).

Congrats to Jonesy on getting what looks like the correct answer (even if I get the feeling he just guessed) .. tongue.gif

It looks like I was getting backfeed over the circuit that drives all the warning lights because the ignition light was fubar due to a chafed wire. According to the wiring diagram there's a diode between the two lights that should stop that from happening, but it didn't seem to be doing its job.

At least everything (except the dual battery relay) seems to be working right now. smile.gif
