Pete & Smithie said on the weekend that it was happening so will have to just wait and see when.

Like last year it may just have to be a bit later int he year than originally planned.

Smithie and I went out out for a scout around the around we are going to do it in this weekend just been and got an idea of the route you are going to take, plenty of good tracks to drive on.

the event will be run in a slightly different format to previous nav rallies to make it a little different from the others.

we will probably have a set date by the end of this week of the next.

Event details

This years event will be 10th & 11th of October.

The event will start and finish in the Walhalla area with Saturday night camping in the Abefieldy area.
Due to the location, and some variety, you will need to carry camping gear with you. We are in the process of organizing tea for Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning. Thus you will only need to carry enough equipment for sleeping 1 night, lunch for both days & drinks for the weekend. There is plenty of accommodation for Friday night in local towns if required.

Driving std will be med with some hard bits. All the tracks have been driven by an open diffed GQ on 35" tires with no damage. You will need a working winch.

Any questions just shoot me or Hottie a message.

after a bit of discussion at the annual trip we realised that the event is not at a good date as the pirahna pursuit is the weekend before the date listed for the nav rally. we will find a new date for the event by the end of the week.

New Dates

Attempt no 2..........

12th & 13th September

As far as we can tell , this weekend is clear, but it is the weekend before the Alpine Challenge. Hopefully this wont affect many people.

Ok I love the idea of a moving camp biggrin.gif
And will ask some questions for on behalf of those that want answers....

Can we get our camping gear from the start to Saturday Camp without having to carry it?

Can we camp at the start point?

Can it be done on ATs? or will MTs or better be needed? What min size?

What meals are catered for?

Cheers
Jonesy

Jonesy, thanks for the questions that no one seams to what to ask........

If people have problems carrying gear to camp, let us know - there are ways around most problems!

You can camp at the start point (access by 2wd). There is also a caravan park & motel accommodation close by.

As stated in original detail post the event has been set on a GQ running 35" tires with no lockers. It could be done on 33" tires just a bit more work or on 31's with even more work. Allot will come down to the weather - no matter how well we plan it the weather will decide it for us. In the dry, AT's will be fine. But I would recommend MT's. It is rated Medium with some Hard bit. Hottie & myself plus other non members have driven most the course (still finalizing the actual rout atm) with no one getting any damage.

Again as posted, we are trying to organize to look after tea Saturday and breakfast Sunday.

Some other things we are working on atm

Trailer/tow car parking in Rawson
Trip leader to base camp for people who wish to camp with the group but not compete.
Spectator points.

Both Hottie & myself have done many nav events, so we have done plenty of fun activities over the years. We are planning quite a few surprises during the event - some new & some great oldies revisited. It should be a blast, not a frustrating battle with maps. The whole course can be completed with basic GPS knowledge with bonus point for the cleaver ones. Diving should be fun, not stressful & the whole aim for the event is for fun and laughter.

If camping is a problem, let me know and I will tell you the plans in person to see if it suits you personally.

If you are thinking of coming, please let us know. No point in us spending heaps of time setting up if only 1 competitor.

Not sure Pete as there is changes about to happen at my work and I'm not sure if I'll be working that weekend or not sad.gif

Would certainly like to compete or pre-run the Rally and proof read your notes, if you would like me to, but can't commit to anything at this stage.

I'll let you know once I know what's going on with work wink.gif

so who is wanting to enter? so we can get a rough idea on numbers?

so far there is:

Shafer & Justin
Jonesy
Bagsy
Macca
Cam & Kynan
Jono
Stewie H

has anyone got anymore questions about the event?

in relation to carrying camping gear, we are unable to do so because we got enough to worry about with running novelties etc. But if you have a problem with this issue, give Greg or Myself a call to discuss this matter future.

Also been hearing third hand that there has been sooking about carrying their own gear, yet none have approached us about it (only Steve posting on here). I dont see why it would make such a difference carrying camping gear whilst doing this event? People go camping on the weekend etc and carry gear, why is this different? This is not a winch challenge, its a fun navigation event that involves camping for one night.

Steve, surely the big red nissan can fit two swags unsure.gif

Pete & Greg,

We would really like to do this event but all we have for camping gear is a caravan wacko.gif

So, would love to even help out on a special stage or novelty but need to know if we can get our caravan in to the area that you are planning on camping on the Sat night.

Let us know what you think...

fuel wise Shane. Moe is the last fuel stop and the first fuel stop on the way home.

From memory Walhalla is about 40km from Moe.

Driving distance probably 50-70km on Day one.

Driving distance on day 2 from camp to moe about 100-120km (50km bitumen)

so all up somewhere around 190 - 230km between fuel stops.

that is just a guess anyway.

Tory,

I would say that it would be near impossible to get a caravan to the camp site on saturday night, you would be able to bring a camper trailer but not a caravan just because of clearance issues, river crossings and tight corners.

As for a novelty, we could have something for you to run if you wish, just let us know if your interested so we can work it out.

Hope this helps.

Does the Navigator have to be a club member or can I bring in a professional?
eg. can I use my 21yo son or hobzee?

If I have a navi and a navi helper do they all need to be club members?
eg Club member navi & son assistant navi.

Thanks Stewy.H.

There goes my pro navi!!
Apparently Hobzee has an international navigation challenge that weekend so he can't make it.
Looks like I'll have to put my 21yo young bloke into 2 months of intense navi training. Unless........

Any one else interested?
I have good personal hygiene, I believe i drive like an ageing V8 supercar driver wink.gif and have lots of patience for navi's biggrin.gif .

Only drama for us is working out how to mount my GPS as the GU has passenger airbags and no grab rail ohmy.gif

Time to drag out some old notes and start studying as there looks to be some fierce competition cool.gif

Oh, and camping will be no dramas for us as we should be able to fit the double swag in the back so we can keep each other warm biggrin.gif

Can't wait, Thommo wink.gif

entry forms will be out this week. so hopefully we can get lots back at the meeting on the 12th of August.

I just got back home from going out driving in the area all day friday and today.

Greg is setting up Sunday notes, and i will be setting Saturday notes.

saturday is all set up now, just need to do some fancy stuff at home and work out helpers for the novelties etc.

Greg is still out in the scrub tonight working on the sunday notes.

all tracks for saturday were driven by me with no winching, some were wet, some were dry, if it is wetter on the day, there might be a couple of winches during the day, just have to wait and see.

Is any one else planning on heading up on Friday arvo / night? I'm planning on heading up on Friday arvo and camping Friday night.

Do we have details of where we will be camping yet?

What facilities are at the camp site (toilets, water, rubbish bins etc)?

On the Sunday, do we finish back at the campsite so we don't have to pack up everything on Sunday morning and cart it around on Sundays drive?

Cheers

I plan to head up Friday arvo, possibly via some tracks. I believe we start at Walhalla, and the BBQ trailer may be there too. I think the finish isn't whee Sat camp is and is at The Dam Wall.
Pete & Smithie will be at Wednesdays meeting to answer these and many other questions.

the start for the event is the camp ground just north of walhalla township on the left, you cross a bridge just off the main road to access the camp ground, might be the one you are refering to cam.

it has toilets, bins and plenty of car parks.

saturday night campspot is different to the finish too.

On4ToU - Steve / Justin (still need to pay)
Vic Dot Com - Emo / Heath
Killawasps - Stew H / Thommo
No Grip - Kynan / Cam
Boost'n' = Shane / Russ & Leslie

we need more entries so give me a buzz on 0431429226 After hours to discuss.

just to let people know, we have changed the start place of the event to the picnic ground just at the start of town on the right (eastern) side after the train station.

the reason for this is that the camp ground will probably be too congested in the morning with campers and the general public.

people can still camp friday night at the camp ground, but will just need to drive approx 1km south to the start line.

anyone else want to enter? still only 6 entries!

Surely there is more than 7 teams entering ohmy.gif I think Brad and Ben would be another team who is entering and what about Jono????

Hopefully more teams enter as we get closer to the Rally. They have all been good value and a great weekend away in the past and this one promises to be no different cool.gif

Just over 3 weeks to go, still have to mount my GPS to the dash of Stew's GU but have it sorted. Nearly time to drag out some old notes for some studying blink.gif

It looks like I'm not going to be a starter. My auto started pouring out transmission fluid last week and apparently it's rooted. It's all in parts on the floor of my mechanics garage. I couldn't be fagged dealing with it at the moment but even if I could be bothered to get it rebuilt before the comp it probably shouldn't be flogged up and down the hils of Walhalla.

Please, keep the entrance fee and put it to good use.

I might actually make it after all. I gave the mechanic the go ahead today to rebuild the auto which he reckon will take around a week so if all goes to plan and the auto gets finished in time then I'll still be a starter.

Looks like a change of cars for team No Grip, Kynan's middy currently has no engine and will not be ready in time. Therefore the Rangie is being prepped for the event. After a bit of a mishap on the way back from Ateco the Rangie is currently a bit worse for wear and in need of some attention.

Hopefully we'll be right to go for next weekend though but may not be up until Saturday morning now.

See you up there.

Cam

The front left wheel fell off on the freeway just before Drouin. damage wise the guard is pretty stuffed and the disc has a flat spot. I was able to drive it home though once the wheel was back on.

There is a good reason my user name is loosenuts!

Steve,

We have plates etc all organized wink.gif

We have allowed for the competitors and officials with the number I have sent you.

Dont know who else is coming to camp only (only had people suggest they may come so dont know actual numbers) so they will have to cater themselves.

Getting close now, bring it on....

ok, just had a chat to a few locals at Walhalla, and camping is only restricted after the Genereal Store.....

I will park my car permantly near the Walhalla Pub where I will be camping, I will try to get the spot with the picnic table, so if I am not there, just set up your swag / tent near my car, as I will be at the Walhalla Pub....

At this stage, no answer at the Wal. Pub... maybe too early, would like to camp at his property.... will keep trying...just look for my car in town, you cannot miss.

My car has the Navrun Plates on....

See you Friday ....

I just wanted to tank everyone that helped make the Navrally happen this year.

thanks for Greg for helping set up the event.
thanks to Marranda for the catering and the people that helped cook
thanks to all the sponsors for the event that contributed food and prizes.
thanks to Roger for running the novelties on both saturday and sunday and the helpers he had.
thanks to the competitors who competed in the event.

turned out to be a great weekend and no mishaps along the way, everyone completed the event safe and sound.

i started marking notes last night and there are a few funny answers, still got lots more to mark.

presentation night will be held at the normal meeting venue, where there will be a normal meeting and then the nav rally presentation afterwards, hope to get a few of the sponsors along to hand out prizes to the competitors.

in all thanks for everyone that helped to make the weekend run so smoothly and enjoyable for all.

Like others I'd like to thank everyone involved in making the weekend an absolute success wink.gif

The standard of tracks were spot on cool.gif with Stu getting the chance to stretch the legs on the GU and draw on it's extra Killawasps at times biggrin.gif

The standard of navigation was quite hard wacko.gif but I certainly enjoyed the challenge wink.gif

The novelties had something in them for everyone.

The food was awesome with Marranda's efforts, along with others, very much appreciated tongue.gif

Thanks again to all and to Stu for obeying my instructions even if it meant being late in on Saturday dry.gif

Thommo - Team Killawasps tongue.gif

P.S. Thanks Macca for having a radio with reception so we could listen to the Mighty Pies win cool.gif

Just wanted to say , me and russ had a great weekend . Although we stuffed up a bit on saturday trying to get our heads into nav mode rolleyes.gif and not paying enough attention to the clock . Missed the cut off time by 1 minute , and it would have been 10 minutes if I was nt BOOST'N cool.gif . I hope our sunday was better , we got most answers and made it back on time biggrin.gif . Huge thanks to pete and greg for setting up the event , and I wont name names in case I forget anyone but everything seemed to run beautifully from the food prep to the cooking , the special stages . Had a blast thanks again , cheers shane .
