Appearance:Going along with her watery nature, the finicky Black Widow Healer prefers to wear what she wants to wear when she wants to wear it. A dash of professional, a pinch of fun, a wink of playful, and a splash of color; all of these can be found in her wardrobe in varying levels and combinations. Her favorite color is blue in all shades and tones, though her favorites among those are the ones that appear naturally in water, steam, and ice. Her wardrobe includes a large array of colors, but an easy 70% consists of blue hues.
Being a Black Widow well into her prime, she has her own set of
Widow's Weeds, which she wears with pride, no matter who's watching. With a straight a-line skirt and neckline, including full skirt complete with chiffon flounces, the shadowy black rough satin flows down her lovely frame. Dark unforgiving black contrasts nicely with her rather pale skin, giving Lucian a more intense appearance than any other of her gowns. Because of the nature of the fabric, certain portions of the garment appear a deeper black than others; specifically the visible chiffon flounces and ruffles that dance up the outside of her skirt giving definition to an otherwise flat appearing skirt. Over her right shoulder is fashioned a chiffon 'strap', though it holds no weight, looking very much like a feather boa in nature. Giving a gentle amount of detailed appearance to the bodice of the dress, it is loosely draped over her shoulder and is pinned with a few stitches to drape at the side of the bodice and down the skirt. Lucian probably adores this dress the most in all of her wardrobe because this one affords her the best image to her figure and is also the most dramatic in appearance.
Regardless of her appreciation for
formality in dress, Lucian's taste in fashion easily flexes through an array of niches;
Professional with straight lines and clean edges while still playful with a faux slit up the leg,
playful with a splash of zest for personality, and
everyday fashion with soft lines, contrasting colors, and flowing fabrics.
Lucian has always and still loves light fabrics and the way they swish around her legs like water currents in a stream. Another reason for her love of fabrics with a penchant to flow is her appealing body, with modest curves in the right places and just a hint of a firm hourglass figure: her curves are best suited to the flow of satin and chiffon.
Contrasting with what her personality might imply, Lucian’s features are far from sharp and unforgiving. Blessed with a
lovely countenance, the woman always finds it most pleasing to herself to plant a smile on her gently curved face. Lucian fancies herself beautiful, but always keeps her modesty in full swing. Softly curled tresses sway at her back, rarely caught up in anything, and usually teased by the wind. Lucian’s brown hair has a few sun-kissed highlights which diminish the contrast with her smooth pale skin.
Lucian prefers not to dress up her face with too much color, but the scant hints she does use set her features in an undeniable spotlight, figuratively speaking of course. Often with just the barest hint of rouge on her pale cheeks, an extra tint of candied peach to her lips, and a shadowy effect to her lashes and eyelids, Lucian finds pleasure in the small changes to her appearance that garner the most dramatic changes. A subtle balance of contrast and compliment practiced over the years, Lucian has her image perfected to bring out her best, regardless of her relative personality.
Gently and easily curving lips often find their frosted peach selves in a smile, sending sparkles and shine into her chocolate orbs that positively dance with joy and life. Conversely, when she’s in a mood or in a necessarily different personality, her countenance changes vastly in feeling: her lips, while remaining frosty peach, appear more frosted than peach, and the sparkles of joy seem more like glimmers of malice in her stone cold eyes.
Another element of her wardrobe that she wears with unmatched pride is her birthright Opal. It's lovely dark core rests against the flat of her collar bone set in a flattering yellow gold setting, suspended by a medium gold chain. The lighter flecks in her jewel highlight her pale skin, but it's deeper hue sets it apart. It is rare that Lucian will hide her Opal Jewel, since it is an unwavering element of her nature.
Personality:Lucian is like the water she grew up around; and like a wild current, she prefers to do whatever she wants to do, but she also knows how to fill the required form for the situation at hand. Naturally free-willed and sharp tongued; she also has a sharply caring nature. Lucian can be overbearing at worst, yet efficient and obviously caring at best. The easiest 'form' for her to fill outside of her natural state is cold like ice, sharp and efficient, keeping her heartfelt emotions out of play and out of sight. Sharp nature fueled by Black Widow, caring nature fueled by Healer. Whether this was fostered by a decade in a Coven run by women who expected that of her, or whether it was just meant to be, Lucian’s personality is simply this way.
She really prefers to be by herself or with a few highly trusted friends in times of turmoil, she has taken to making very valuable friends. Loyalty is important to her, but she is willing to make exceptions and cut ties when necessary. To her, the few close friends she has will always remain in her heart, and her loyalty thereto will never be questioned. Family, however, is something she treasures, values, and will never lessen the respect in her heart because it fits someone else’s agenda for her to do so.
She has the ability to lie very well, and by that, she values the sincere truth all the more.
Inside in her natural state, she'd rather come to an agreement with the Landen who are important to the land rather than kill them all off, since the Blood can't do it by themselves. Similar to her favorite element of water, she is capable of taking on many forms and states without changing her true essence. In other words: her public opinion might not always reflect what she truly feels, allowing her true personality to remain unaltered.
Undeniably, when anyone is hurt around her, she feels an overwhelming desire and instinct that demands for her to tend to them, regardless of the harm she might put herself in while tending them. Naturally thinking of others before herself when her Healer's nature is running rampant, Lucian finds it very easy to do things with the most efficiency possible in order to treat the most people. It is in this time where her talent for keeping track of seemingly endless amounts of details shines its brightest. Without skipping a beat, she will find the quickest way to heal as many people and exhaust her Jewels as she does so.
With a smile and a 'get well soon' farewell to each patient, Lucian will easily work herself to death. There's an interesting catch that she hasn't seen in
most other Healers: if somebody prevents a much needed healing by trying to convince the determined woman to take care of her body's needs, Lucian will more often than not dip into sincere agitation with that person and proceed to immobilize them. This usually only ends in more work for herself, but in the moment, she has only a focus bent on Healing and an intention and temper equally bent on
not being interrupted.
There are a few fail-proof methods to incur her rage or wrath. Most of which stem from her three most respected pillars of herself: Loyalty, Family, and Friends. Insults do little more than agitate Lucian, but a well aimed blow could discover that the reply includes a dark rage fueled by love and righteousness, or a venomous wrath based in self-efficacy and cold hatred. If motivated to murder or incapacitation, Lucian has many options open to her devious plans.
Trained as a Healer of the body and also of the mind, she has the knowledge to pin and cripple someone if she has the right motives. By the same cards that give her such prowess in her craft in a progressive manner, she can turn her skills to destruction. Not to be misunderstood, this the nature of the Blood, and she embraces this part of her nature just as fully as she embraces the loving and joy-filled part of her nature.
History:Lucian grew up in a wealthy family whose summer home was a lake house, spring was in a modest cottage with a stream nearby, fall was spent near an orchard, and winter was spent in the Tamanara Mountain foothills with streams fed by snow-melt all around and the image of snow-capped mountains just beyond the treetops. Instead of spending their funds on one or two very large homes, or one mansion, her mother, Bellatrix Vega, wanted her scenery to change with the seasons, so Lucian's father, Rigel Vega, built multiple modest homes in different locations in the territory. It severely impacted their social lifestyle, since their friends were only seen 3 months out of the year, but the friends Lucian kept, have remained sincere.
When it came time for her first round of formal schooling, she took short classes with other local girls for three months at a time. Before this, she was allowed to be free-spirited and acted however she liked, under her parents' loving and nurturing supervision. However, with every season, the expectations of her tutors changed. Expectations regarding personality, opinions, motives, almost everything changed every time she moved with the seasons.
Only when she neared her 14th year, did she become a little more in tune to the sweet and silent vibes of Mother Night than the other girls, being prone to visions in her dreams that would occasionally come to pass. It was a little late for other Black Widows, but in turn for having to wait, Lucian was repaid with more intense visions and a deeper well of power. In the end, it was a worthwhile trade-off.
However, Lucian was always more sensitive to when someone was in pain or ill, and she'd do her best to make them feel better, she also harbored a little more intuition when it came to what would be best for an ache or pain. Ever the modest child, Lucian chalked up her intuition for healing to paying close attention to what her mother did to take care of the family and not as what a trained eye would see. Lucian never really thought she stood out as a spectacular natural member of the Healer caste until an afternoon in her 7th summer.
Lucian and her friend Molly had been climbing trees near the shore of the lake, and Molly had fallen. Lucian raced down the limbs to her bruised friend, and tried to check for broken bones. Without really knowing fully why what her mother did worked, Lucian tried it on Molly's injuries and was really proud when her efforts left one less bruised leg, and a report on Molly's behalf of 'no more pain'. With a bright smile and a tired sigh, Lucian decided she'd probably be better off if someone who knew what they were doing took care of Molly the rest of the way.
From that afternoon when Molly and Lucian had hobbled into the kitchen of the Lake house with identical bright smiles, Lucian was given Healer training by her mother, having decided Lucian was at the appropriate age to really discover her talents. All that her mother knew, Lucian would learn and internalize until there was nothing more to be learned from her mother.
The only constants were her immediate family and the letters of correspondence with her closest friends. Until her 14th year, when her body took the first steps into womanhood without her permission. Months later, her schedule of change during the year was turned on it's head when she was enrolled in the best Coven money could bribe. Lucian wasn't aware of the bribe at first, but she eventually learned about it. In the Coven, influenced greatly by the Toluard's, her public opinions and outward appearance slowly took the shape desired.
Aided by her previous experience of changing her outward image without the heavy pressures of changing who she really was, in her years of nearly constant change, Lucian was able to keep a firm hold on who she really was while convincing her mentors otherwise. A practiced people pleaser, Lucian could slip into her Coven's expectations just as easily as she could be herself around her immediate family and close friends.
Never quite able to divorce herself from her Healer's instincts and habits when someone was injured near her, Lucian always found solace in that no matter what she pretended to believe, her Healing touch would still be just as strong as ever. Once she'd learned how to make a variety of respectable Illusion spells, she invested in long hours that turned into nearly a year of practice perfecting her spell weaving skills. Over blood, tears, and sweat, Lucian perfected the spell necessary to hide certain scents from one's psychic imprint.
She would never give up her talents and skills as a Healer or Black Widow, but the spells sold well and they would come in handy for her own purposes one day. Trusting in the feelings she'd been having since childhood, she spent hours mastering that spell, because her gut told her to. And because of her desire to be well-rounded, she spent an equal amount of effort mastering other useful spells, and memorizing the common spells.
Lucian spent a nearly agonizing 3 years in a single room of a single building, with no fluidity to the atmosphere and no streams or lakes around. While there, she also studied the Healer's craft through books, and remained in good contact with her friends and family through letters. Lucian mourned her stationary lifestyle but also recognized that if she wanted to be productive and a member of active society, she'd have to accept a more settled style of living.
Having passed through her Virgin Night earlier that year unscathed at 17, Lucian was a trained Black Widow Healer with relatively dark Jewels and a wide foundation upon which to use them when she left the Coven properties a few months later. She had spent 4 years in one place, and now with her independence, Lucian intended to travel. Her plans folded under the pressure of the Landen uprising centered upon the capital, Delarinn.
Lucian packed her belongings swiftly and lightly, an expert on such matters due to her childhood, and caught a carriage with the woman her mother had intended as a Healer mentor for Lucian. Once inside the city, the Black Widow Healer felt herself begin to shift into the familiar sharp tongued Healer who would be bent on keeping people well fed, warm, and in good health for the next 11 or so months of the attack. She felt comfortable there, juggling the many details of the many injured and sick, efficiently running one of the clinics that neighbored her mentor's, and Lucian felt that her calling was there. That it lay in Healing, and ensuring that people would not be forgotten, keeping track of the small details with ease, with a sharp tongue when necessary to keep the stubborn in bed.
While there, monitoring her clinic, Lucian took notes and lessons from her intended mentor. Once the attack ended, she sought the freedom in location she hadn’t enjoyed since childhood. Her plans were foiled again, however, by her mother’s intent wishes for her to complete her Healer’s training as fully as Lucian could achieve. She also felt the desire to descend into her full blessing from the darkness, as her Opal Jewel wouldn't be quite enough for the ambitious young woman. She had plans to become a great influence and aid to the wounded. If Lucian intended to be everything that was possible, she'd need her Jewels of Rank.
One year later, during her second year of interning with a skilled Healer, she
made her descent into the Darkness and uprising into adulthood in the winter of her 20th year. Spending a total of four years with varying internships under various masters of the Healing craft, Lucian learned her craft with a devoted passion. Healing was her first passion, and even if Black Widow weaving called to her a little more strongly, she felt an undeniably strong bond to her Healing ways.
Her internships were widely varied and they often took her from one corner of the territory to another. Lucian spent free-time with her mentors, while traveling, and visiting friends she hadn’t seen personally for years, catching up with them, and spending some valuable time with her family. Oddly enough, she began to feel more comfortable in any place as long as there was a stream or lake or snow nearby, but she was always more comfortable after she had spent a month or two in that location. It began to dawn on the Black Widow Healer that she wasn’t quite the natural traveler that she always had thought herself to be. Instead, she was more attracted to new sights every once in a while, and as long as her environment had some form of water within daily reach, Lucian would be happy.
In this way she spent her time until her 23rd birthday, when her then-current mentor passed away and her clinic was left without management. Lucian spent 3 years training a Healer to be capable of taking over the clinic, and at 26 she was finally free to settle in a place of her choosing. Lucian chose the capital after much deliberation.
Lucian, at 26, feels she is at a nearly perfect age: Just mature enough not to be foolish or stupid, but not so old that she has to really grow up the rest of the way. Her looks aren’t really of coincidence to her, but she can’t really complain either, since her joints and bones are still in excellent shape, and her outward appearance also isn’t affected by her age. Having thought long and hard about it, Lucian decided she’d go back to the capital.
The darkness pulled her there, and like a good Black Widow, Lucian has never ignored a tug from the Darkness.
Family:Her family has a long history of naming children after stars. Lucian is a variant of a star name, and the first in her family for this to occur. Her mother rationalizes her love of constant travel with their apparent roots as a gypsy family based on the use of star names for naming children. Her father doesn't believe that, but goes along with his wife's beliefs. Rigel prefers to think their family was a member of the aristocracy and it was their job to observe the stars, hence the tradition of naming children for stars and other celestial bodies. Their marriage was arranged, and they are both named for bright stars, perhaps foreshadowing their fate in the brighter future of Dena Nehele.
