England for the win!

So, upon waking up the day after the tournament (roughly around noon) Popeye and I began finishing off the remaining beer in the keg. We mulled over the plan to hold an individual competion the day after. In the future, it may be better to have this the day before, but we'll see. Nonetheless, we called up the few that we knew would muster the energy to get their tired asses over to the house.

The competitors: Popeye, Brandon, Jordan, Don, and BK. (notice only the die-hard caps players)

Game 1: Rapid-Fire (shots made in a minute)
This one was less than spectacular considering that none of us had thrown a cap yet for the day, so we were all a little rusty.
Brandon set the bar at a measly 5 shots.
Jordan with 3.
Popeye with 4.
Don with 1, yes only 1.
Then BK showed us all up with 9 for the win.

Game 2: Long-Shot (shots made out of 20 from 12 feet away)
This was much better and provided the most excitement.
Popeye and Jordan couldn't manage a single make out of 20 tries.
BK managed 1.
Don and Brandon both hit 2 shots from behind the couch and went to a playoff of 10 shots.
They each made 1.
In the 3rd round, the difficulty of these shots showed as no one hit any.
In the 4th round, Don set the bar at a staggering 1, and Brandon could not sink a single one.

Game 3: Trick-Shot (C-A-P) (any shot using only items in a normal game. Played like PIG)
This was quite interesting. I saw a lot of shots that I would like to have seen go in. I saw a few that I've seen pulled off before.
Popeye started off with a make from the couch that none of us matched.
Play continued with no makes for a while.
Brandon hit something that no one could match.
More misses.
Brandon made a shot by dropping it into the mug from over his shoulder than no one matched leaving only him and Popeye to fight it out.
Many more misses occurred to the point that we just wanted to fill up our beers.
To end it, Brandon sat in the seat that he's won a championship from and made the shot that he knows he can make.
Sadly, Popeye could not (though it was his "bad" side).

Ultimately, with a 1st place and two 2nd places, Brandon won the individual competition and the chance to have another beer.

For the Spring '08 Individual Caps Competition, we had a much larger field. After breakfast at Four Peaks, and before we started cleaning up the aftermath, we figured it would be a good time to start drinking.

The competitors: Nicole, BK, Jess, Krista, Tyler, Brandon, Don, Jason, Popeye, and (after much convincing) Sarah.

Game 1: Rapid-Fire (shots made in a minute)
One might think that this would be easy: unpressured shots, one after the other. Never the case.
Nicole - 4
BK - 0
Jess - 1
Krista - 3
Tyler - 0
Brandon - 5
Don - 7
Jason - 3
Sarah - 0
Popeye - 4

Game 2: Long-Shot (shots made out of 20 from 12 feet away)
This year's long-shot was pathetic and far from exciting. The only person to actually put a single cap in the mug from 12 feet away was the Don.

Game 3: Trick-Shot (C-A-P) (any shot using only items in a normal game. Played like PIG)
Due to the size of the field of competitors, I felt that tricks lacked creativity. Some simple shots (or drops) were the ones that weeded people out. Ultimately, Tyler won this game.

With 2 wins and a near win in the Trick Shot, Don won the Individual Competition.

The Summer '08 Individual Caps Competition almost didn't happen. Injuries and fatigue nearly sidelined the entire field.

The competitors: Nicole, BK, Brandon, Crystal, and eventually Don.

Game 1: Rapid-Fire (shots made in a minute)
The stress of the stopwatch working against them usually keeps scores low.
Crystal, in her first IC, couldn't handle the stress and didn't make any.
Nicole keeps getting better and made 5.
BK did better than April, but only made 3.5 (We gave him a half point for a bounce-out)
Brandon finally found focus and hit a rhythm, putting up the highest total ever at 11.
Don, after joining the competition late, put in 8 (besting his April total by 1).

Game 2: Long-Shot (shots made out of 20 from 12 feet away)
This year's long-shot, being set up in a different location, may have been further than previous ICs, but it still worked. We may need a ladies' tee though.

In the first round, none of us put any in. We grabbed another 20 caps each and tried again. Finally, BK put one in. Then he had a bounce out, so we gave him a half point. Don managed to make one. But the winner, with a BOUNCE-IN worth 2 points, was Brandon.

Game 3: Trick-Shot (C-A-P) (any shot using only items in a normal game. Played like PIG)
This game can be slow and lack creativity. Don forfeited just so as not have to stand for a half hour. Ultimately, BK won this game over Brandon on a shot from the couch.

With 2 wins and a near win in the Trick Shot, Brandon won the Summer '08 Individual Competition.

The Fall '08 Individual Caps Competition got started in the afternoon after a delicious Irish breakfast. Not to mention a few black and tans.

The competitors: Jason, Crystal, Popeye, Nicole, Brandon, BK, & Jessica.

Game 1: Rapid-Fire (shots made in a minute)
Everyone got on the board this year.
Jason and Crystal both made 3.
Nicole bested her July score and made 6.
Brandon put in 7 after finding a groove at the end.
Jessica found the bottom of the cup twice.
BK and Popeye both managed a respectable 9. In the second round, they were allowed 30 seconds. BK made 3, but Popeye nailed 4 shots to win.

Game 2: Long-Shot (shots made out of 20 from 12 feet away. 10 feet for the ladies.)
This year we had a ladies tee, and it evidently helped because Jessica was able to make 1 shot along with Popeye. In the second round with only 10 caps, they both again made 1. Neither was able to find the mug on the third round. After a few shots in the sudden death round, Popeye finally found his mark.

Game 3: Ski-Ball (a mug surrounded by 2 concentric rings and 2 small cups on the sides worth different point values)
Participants have become disenchanted with the trick shot competition, so we decided on a game of ski-ball. With the outer ring worth 1 point, center ring worth 2, inner mug worth 3 and small mugs worth 4, we all put up some good numbers.
Jason and Crystal scored 11 points.
Brandon scored 9.
Jessica scored 6.
BK only made 1 (I don't know how).
Popeye, in almost a clean sweep of the games, scored 15, but thankfully Nicole came through and scored 16 to win the Ski-Ball competition.

With 2 wins and a near win in Ski-Ball, Popeye won the Fall '08 Individual Competition.

The Spring '09 Individual Caps Competition began similarly to Fall '08 with the competitors enjoying a delicious Irish breakfast and a Guinness or 3.

The competitors: Jason, Chris K, Popeye, Bobby, Don & Brandon. Nicole & BK, of Team Spain, showed up late, probably after a midday siesta.

Game 1: Rapid-Fire (shots made in a minute)
Everyone got on the board this year.
Brandon, who had put up the previous best of 11 in the Summer IC, only found the cup 6 times.
Bobby and Jason managed to top that by 1.
Don made a reasonable 8 shots.
Chris seemed to have this game wrapped up with 10 shots, but Popeye showed us all what good shooting looks like and made 12, the highest total ever.

Game 2: Long-Shot (shots made out of 20 from 12 feet away)
Personally, I thought this game would have been more competitive considering that the participants were the players that are always tossing caps into the mug from across the room.
Jason, Bobby and Brandon couldn't make a single shot out of their 20.
Popeye proved himself worthy by at least making 1.
Both Don and Chris showed us why they're the top players by hitting 2 shots.
In the second round, only 10 shots were allowed, and Don somehow hit another 2 shots. I believe he hit his last shot.
Chris hit one early in his stack, but his closest shot was his last which bounced off the mug.

Game 3: Ski-Ball (a mug surrounded by 2 concentric rings and 2 small cups on the sides worth different point values)
Don started us off with 15 points, most coming from caps in the center mug.
Brandon only made 1 cap in the mug, all of the others bouncing off of the rings.
Chris scored 6 points. Popeye 12. Jason should have been shooting at the shotglasses the whole time because he did manage to make 1 and helped him score 8.
Bobby never looked back on his way to the record-tying 16 points.

Game 4: Around-the-World (5 mugs: 1 in each beer spot, 1 in the center, and 2 others in between. Quickest to make all 5)
This was a new event this year. Similar to Rapid-Fire, the clock was nobody's friend.
Can't remember who started us off, but Bobby hit all 5 in 30 seconds. Don in :20.
Popeye had trouble shortening his arc-shot, but hit 'em in :46.
Jason seemingly had the win with a 17 second performance, but Chris, keeping pace with his usual performances with the ladies, finished himself off in only :13. He's a magician folks.

With 1 win and 2 second place finishes, I'm calling Chris the winner of the Spring '09 Individual Competition.
