PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

HEIGHT: 5'9”
BUILD: 278 lbs, Overweight. Lenny was never much of an athlete in his earlier years, and he continued to stay away from the athletics as the decades progressed. To his misfortune he wasn't lucky enough to be born with the fast metabolism needed to stay thin without exercise. Exercising on a less than frequent basis Lenny is far from reaching the peak of human strength and agility. More or less he doesn't deviate far from the modern sedentary American of this day and age. Lenny also tends to be overweight, due to overeating & his mutant ability. Most of his excess weight is distributed across his body thus giving him an overall husky appearance, plump face, and a notable pot belly.

HAIR: Dirty Blonde
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: None
CLOTHING STYLE: Unless attending a formal event, Lenny is often seen in a casual getup. Typical casual attire may include or be a mix and match up of a T-shirt sometimes with a design/logo, or without, a breezy button up shirt, or sweater of sheep based material. His top is usually followed up with a pair of homey dress pants, plain ol' jeans, or cargo pants. In the case of a more demanding setting, Lenny can usually be found wearing a suit with a tie or a tuxedo respectively.
UNIFORM: Standard X-men Uniform.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Biochemical Energy Supplying
Normally, people only have limited energy absorption capabilities, such as the digestion and metabolism of food, but with the introduction of the mutant gene it has been presented that there are several exceptions to the norm. In Lenny's case he was bestowed the gift of his whole body being a organic compound converter that can metabolize organic matter, living or dead, into a form of biochemical energy once in physical contact. His body is then capable of using that biochemical energy in its' immediate form to be used as an alternative fuel source for his body. That energy can also be transferred and used on another organism, to fuel them.

Lenny needs physical contact with an organism or mass of biological matter to absorb the mass and convert it into biochemical energy. Once in immediate proximity to at least a single point of contact he may choose to absorb mass from any location of the collective body or physically contacting bodies of the organism(s)/connecting structures of the biomass. The typical rate of assimilation of matter is approximately a pound, (455 grams) of matter per second, this rate of assimilation of matter can be willingly decreased to smaller amounts if so desired by Lenny, but they cannot normally increase beyond the pound per second rate. When used upon a living organism the process of mass intake is a painful one for individuals with pain reception, as the process is fundamentally another method of digestion without the use of enzymes and acids, the operation feels very much like being torn apart piece by piece.

Once the biomass is absorbed it is converted into a form of unique biochemical energy which can be used to fuel the body into continuing the performance of energy using tasks. Each pound of mass can basically be turned into an equivalent of 3500 calories worth of energy, which is essentially 1 ½ day's worth of recommended calorie intake. This energy also provides about a day and a half's worth of essential nutrients, as well as providing for the body's water needs, the energy effectively converts into mass and turns into the matter necessary to nourish the individual. Theoretically per 2 pounds of mass absorbed Lenny can last about 3 days without intake of any form of sustenance if used as a steady form of fuel. This biochemical energy can also be transferred onto other living organisms upon physical contact. When transferred onto another organism, the process unlike the mass to energy conversion is at an instantaneously rate, providing the energy as immediately needed. This energy can also be used to power mutant abilities turning into the essential form of energy needed to power said mutant abilities.

Any biochemical energy that is not being immediately used is stored within the confines of each individual cell within Lenny's body or the cells of the other organism in which the energy is transferred to. The cells store and heavily concentrate that energy for later use, or permanent storage if not used within an allotted 2 hours since conversion of the mass to energy. Permanent storage would be in the form of fatty tissues for the vast majority of species in the domain Animalia, In the case of organisms that cannot produce fatty tissue, such as plants or fungi, this excess energy will be used to augment rapid growth, in a tree's case to grow larger, form new branches, new leaves, new fruit, etc.

WEAKNESS:

Although Lenny is capable of metabolizing organic matter into energy through contact, he is unfortunately not capable of metabolizing objects such as large cows being thrown at him at 50 mph, even if it does touch him at one point or another. Lenny usually needs a stationary target or at least a target that he can keep his mental focus on while being in physical contact with it. If unable to keep in physical contact and keep focus on the organism of absorption/energy transfer, he is unable to use his mutant ability upon the individual until he has said contact and focus. As for keeping in physical contact with an individual, the body part which Lenny is using to keep contact must be physically attached to Lenny to actually perform said abilities, thus Lenny's dismembered hand will not continue to perform any absorption effects if it has no connection to his body.

An important note to Lenny's ability is that even if an object, or individual has an organic component within them, Lenny's mutant ability will not be usable on them unless in contact with that organic material, or some connecting form of organic matter which can be used as a sort of non-living organic mass conduit to reach another biological individual. This rule also applies for matter that rests over the individuals organic material, thus an individual fully covered by a form of non-organic matter wouldn't be accessible to Lenny until contact with organic matter was met. As for those that have organic bodies normally, but can turn to non-organic substances, Lenny would be unable to affect them once they've turned to a non-organic composition at least in terms of the absorption process. If the individual is still capable of metabolizing chemical energy though he would still be able to use his energy transferal ability. If a living individual exists that isn't made out of organic compounds and doesn't need to metabolize organic matter, they would respectively be immune to Lenny's abilities, despite being alive.

Lenny must also keep track of how long it's been since he's assimilated matter into his body as after a 2 hour period his cells will begin to turn that biochemical energy into excess adipose tissue. This body fat begins to form almost instantaneously after the allotted time passes, his body basically putting on weight at a rapid rate due to the large amount of excess energy, such as when one consumes too many extra calories. His body will turn any of that excess energy into fat at a rate equal to his mutant ability's usual transfer rates adding on a pound of fatty tissue per second until that excess chemical energy is all processed or used. Alongside this, the raw biochemical energy Lenny places within other individuals will turn to fatty tissue as well if there is excess energy by a period of 2 hours since he last assimilated the mass and turned it into energy. This limited time frame in which Lenny can use this energy bounds how much energy he can hold at any given time, as even if he were to continually gather mass for 2 hours, the energy would eventually begin turning into fat pound by pound.

PERSONALITY

Optimistic, poor in his motivational skills, and squirrelly with his suggestions at times, Lenny can tend to be an irritation to those he stays around. He throws out optimism and support in good spirits to raise the morale of those around him, but the phrases he yells out can grow to be confusing, stupid, or just an annoyance. This is due to his tendency to compliment on unusual things, or due to his optimistic remarks about things that do not actually help with the situation. Every so often though Lenny will find something that puts a smile on someone's face, and so he takes great joy in his optimism and helping them get that toothy grin. Whether he gets that smile through a well thought out compliment, or through total nonsense it makes little difference to him.

Lenny has a genuine care for others, and he tries to prove that by complimenting others and trying his best to provide hope. Although not above using this flattery and lies to cheer up individuals and get them on their feet, he typically doesn't do these things out of malicious intent, although occasionally they may lead to poor outcomes. Lenny is a kindhearted individual most of the time, and he does his best to avoid conflict, but he's not too strict about keeping to petty morals if he needs to get things done, lying, murder, and theft, are all within his territory if it might be necessary to get to the goals he's working toward.

One of Lenny's goals in life is to make those around him smile, but another of those goals is to feed that part of him that enjoys a little chaos here and there. Somewhat of a troublemaker in nature, Lenny sometimes goes out of his way to enjoy the act of irritating people. He doesn't enjoy hurting them per say, but it amuses him greatly when he sees frustration in someone's face as they try to reason with him, especially when he's intentionally being unreasonable. It fills him with a sort of playful joy, and could be seen as more childish and nutty rather malicious. Riddles, practical jokes, and pranks are always a bit of fun for him, as are just acts of plain and utter stupidity, or oddity. Of course he knows when to stop with the fun and games, but then again maybe he doesn't.

Although childish in his naïve sense of hope, optimism, and in getting a kick out of frustrating people, Lenny is actually rather calm and collected, and although somewhat of a talkative fellow, he talks when he has something to say, or when he's spoken to, but other than that if he says something it's usually just nonsense. He's not the most active individual, despite enjoying a bit of play, more or less he just sits around and watches as the chaos unravels before him. Peace and calm, a comfy couch to sit on, and an exciting sci-fi horror movie easily sets the mood for a happy evening. Despite being sort of a couch potato and staying indoors a lot, he also has grown a fancy for gardening, enjoying the prospect of watching nature grow. His character reveals itself the more he gets to know a person, but he doesn't go out of the way looking for friends and people to talk to and can tend to be rather introverted, sitting around thinking about whatever suits his fancy.

Lenny enjoys thinking about totally irrelevant topics, getting his focus off more dire topics to keep a more carefree, relaxed state of mind, and often displays so when he's included into a conversation. He's a rather broad minded individual, always open to new ideas and the like, and is usually ready to compliment someone's idea, even if he isn't entirely paying attention to what the idea is. Despite how he tends to act at times, he is not the blathering dolt he seems to be outwardly, he can be imaginative when ideas strike him, and is rather intelligent in terms of his mental capabilities, but unfortunately most times he doesn't bother to put these gifts into fruition if he doesn't feel the need to do so. He tries to look out of the box when formulating plans, and sometimes he pulls it off, but other times he just doesn't try hard enough. Lenny can focus and work hard when he puts his mind to it, but he tends to get lazy and usually looks for the easy way out of things, which is why his favorite thing to do when bored is sleep, tired or not.

HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE
Whether by the grace of God as his father believed, or a stroke of luck as his mother heavily insisted, Lenard Wallace Weston was born 1978, November 19th in Houston, Alaska. Lenny was far from being neglected in his earlier years of life, as he was cared for with great affection by his parents and older brother. As he progressed to the later stages of his childhood though he lost a lot of that social contact. He moved on to be more isolated as his mother went off to get a job to deal with the death of her husband, and his brother went on to higher education, but it was not necessarily an unpleasant stage of life. He'd bonded and formed a few friendships within the very small community of Houston, Alaska, and even when friends were unavailable he was never alone and always had the family dogs, as silent, but faithful companions.

October 11th, 1994 was the day in which Lenny's mutation broke free. It was a mystifying event to him as the novel within his hands simply began to disappear, in fear Lenny jumped off the couch and leaned up against the main wooden support of the building, dismayed at what had just happened. Almost immediately after the shock of the vanishing book, Lenny watched as the support beside him began to vanish piece by piece. By the time Lenny frantically removed his body from the support the building had begun to lose stability and with it the roof collapsed and buried both him and his mother under the weight of the roof. Once discovered the two were entered into the nearest local hospital. Lenny had suffered the least of the building's weight as it had collapsed, his mother though who had been in another room at the time of the event wasn't as fortunate. She ended up passing away a few days after being admitted into the hospital due to internal bleeding and trauma to the head. For the collapse of the house, it was merely closed as the product of poor construction, and large amounts of snow that had build up on the roof. Nothing of an unusual nature was suspected due to the nature in which the building fell apart, and so no further investigation went into discovering additional causes of the event.

By October 15th, 1994 Lenny was sent to live with his older brother Terrance in Tallahassee, Florida as he no longer had any known legal guardians living in Houston, Alaska. For months after the event Lenny worried greatly about what had happened, according to the authorities it was the product of poor construction, but he questioned the event he had experienced first hand. Silence seemed to be the best solution at the time though, and so he disclosed no information on the true event that had occurred. Oddly enough after the initial awakening of his mutant gene it had gone back into a dormant state, almost making the entire event seem like a bad dream. Eventually Lenny came to the conclusion that maybe he'd only imagined the more bizarre portions of the event, and so he would come to terms with himself and walk past what had occurred.

Life with his older brother was a big change for Lenny, beyond the deviation from his normal climate and environment. Now living in sunny Florida with his brother and his brother's wife and daughter things were a bit more family like. Terrance was a busy man though and so Lenny actually didn't have much direct contact with his brother. Most of his social interaction at home was with Amanda, Lenny's 6 year old niece, and Rachel, Terrance's wife. Lenny oddly enough made many friends while living in Florida, but the ones he did make weren't all too close, eventually losing contact with all of them by the time he graduated. Lenny graduated High School as a member of the class of 1995 and went off to higher education at Florida State University as a doctor, under the suggestion of his older brother who felt he was bright enough to go into the field. By the end of his first semester as a freshman though Lenny changed his major to botany due to his interest in plant life, rather the human anatomy. Alongside his change in major he also ended up getting into his first relationship, although the nature of the relationship was kept clandestine, knowledge of the relationship being between himself and his lover.

June 2nd, 1998 was the date in which his mutant gene reawakened, fortuitously this time it arrived with less severe results. Lenny was at his boyfriend Will's home housekeeping, when his mutant powers manifested once more, fortunately for him, his boyfriend was out in Europe for the summer and it occurred in a private location. As Lenny was out gardening in his boyfriend's backyard what started out as simple weeding, eventually turned into a weed massacre, and an unexpected buffet for Lenny. It was a confusing spectacle for him as he watched the weeds he plucked out vanish within the palms of his bare hands. A couple hours after having plucked weeds from the yard he had also noticed his increase in size and began brainstorming what exactly had happened. He stayed weary as he experimented with his ability, staying within a nylon tent in the backyard as he did so. By the end of summer Lenny had improved to at least manageable levels of control in his mutant ability.

Another semester passed by Lenny, and he no longer remained completely perplexed by his ability, which he concluded was the result of possessing the mutant gene. During this time he didn't dare reveal any details about it to anyone, and did his best to conceal any practice he had with it. In time his relationship with those around him deteriorated as he became more and more secluded. Keeping up with his studies was secondary by this point, any free time he had was used to experiment with his newly partially controlled mutant abilities. He eventually ended up getting into a argument with his boyfriend and his relationship ended alongside the end of his senior year of college.

After barely receiving his Bachelor of Science in Botany in 1999 he couldn't help but feel ashamed for what he'd done to his relationships in the past year. Lenny was eventually unable to walk past his shame of what he'd done and left school ending his pursuit of classroom knowledge. However he continued keeping a heavy focus on his new mutant ability, wondering as to how he might further unlock his potential. Lenny continued to delve deeper into experimentation with his mutant ability and in a sense went on a journey of personal discovery. He eventually used his bachelors in botany to get a job as a groundskeeper, and with it his career grew, although not really famous beyond the local community, he ended up becoming a local legend as a prodigal gardener. It wasn't talent in gardening alone that allowed him to seem so gifted though. It was during this time that he continued playing around with his mutant ability and exponentially grew more and more skilled in controlling and utilizing it effectively. He was eventually known as Mr. Green by his employers throughout the years and was introduced to new and exciting gardens and grounds, as well as various different types of floras.

DURING APOCALYPSE (April 5th through April 12th, 2009)
It was only a week, but Lenny was indirectly affected by the events that unfolded though the first and second week of April 2009. Although Lenny usually avoided watching the news, once the rise of Apocalypse began, it became nearly impossible to evade seeing what was unfolding in the world around him. When the destruction began he went from rarely viewing what went on in the news, to spending whatever extra time he had to watch the broadcast on public television. By the time the worldwide blackout occurred, he began to ponder on how he was spending his life. He'd been keeping his mutant identity hidden from the world around him, and had been using it for menial things such as shaping hedges, and experimenting with various species of weeds. Maybe it was time for some change.

POST-APOCALYPSE
Not long after the eventful week Lenny began to think about joining one of the many groups that had valiantly fought to bring Apocalypse and his horsemen down. As two years passed by he began to think more and more about joining a mutant group and helping the world in a more significant way. Lenny in the end made his decision to spend whatever time he had to work on tracking down contact information for the group known as the X-men, as well as to where their base of operations was located. By May of 2011 Lenny discovered where to find the group and so he packed his bags and headed off for the state of New York. He hoped to assist them in whatever he could, if he was useless as a member of the X-men, then he could at least hopefully continue what he'd been doing as a groundskeeper and keep their grounds looking nice. So he headed off to Xavier's School for Gifted Youth in Westchester, in the hopes that he would be able to get a job there if they had the opening. Not exactly turning out to be very combat oriented as an individual, in the end he got a job as a live-in groundskeeper for the school, tending to the schools gardens, and such.

Things didn't change all too drastically for Lenny in the next few months, despite his new job and outlook on life, he'd merely just gotten a new job if anything. Of course he was now in close proximity of a whole school full of mutants, but oddly enough his life wasn't all that changed, still he felt that he had made a change and that was good enough for his state of mind. Lenny had been within the school building when the destruction of the Institute occurred on September 1st, 2011. He had survived the initial explosion, but had fallen unconscious with severe wounds and in turn was brought over to the infirmary once it was established. He was but one of the many nameless faces that were cured of their critical injuries by the mutant Elixer. After the chaotic turn of events Lenny questions where he's going to go.

SAMPLE RP POST:

Time: A couple hours after sunset. 8:41 PM
Date: May 22nd, 2011

“What the hell am I doing? Hmm let's recap what's happened... I decided today to pack whatever I could fit into a couple suitcases, boarded a plane, abandoned my home in Florida effectively murdering all my plants, discarded several perfectly good groundskeeping jobs, and basically threw myself off the plane and into Westchester, New York. For what foolish purpose have I done this to myself... Oh yes, to find the group I so greatly admire, who I've yet to meet in person, let alone speak to, the X-men. in the hopes they'll employ me and provide me with a living residence. Of course all this without notifying them ahead of time. I'm sure this plan will play out wonderfully. Yipes...”

Within the chilled air-conditioned atmosphere of a small local cafe in downtown North Salem sat an unaccompanied portly man, who had the faint smell of lavender about him. He was silently murmuring to himself as he recollected recent events, starring off into the warm cup of tea before him. The wispy yellow light coming from the small candle on the table made the mood all the more calm and relaxing for him as he worked to gathering his thoughts.

Planning for trips wasn't something Lenny did often, maybe it was due to the fact that he was dead awful at it. Rather impulsive in his decision, without any prior thought he was straight on the plane, spending a great deal of money to leave right that day. He'd arranged no one to watch over his house while he was gone, and may have even left the front door unlocked as he left. Lenny could only bite his tongue in anticipation, hoping that he hadn't left the door ajar, lest he discover his Alien's collection all but missing when he returned for the rest of his belongings.

The cute little corner coffeehouse had seemed like a satisfactory place to rest and gather his bearings on the situation. It was quiet and empty for the most part, the exception being a shy young heterosexual couple sharing a dinner three tables away, and of course the lone staff member, who looked less than pleased to be spending her time there when no business was coming her way. As Lenny slowly sipped his tea, he couldn't help but relish that he was now in a nice cooler climate, despite it not being immediately relevant, as he was indoors. He looked out past the large glass window to the left of him, observing as traffic sped past the corner, a short, but loud cough erupted from his chest as he speedily finished off his tea and tipped the quaint purple tip jar up front. A comfy navy blue beret was topped onto his head as he walked out of the cafe, deciding it was his time to leave and head off to his destination.

Buford Hollis - September 15, 2011 01:10 AM (GMT)
Hello Alex, thank you for applying to XMR. I like Lenny, he's definitely not the average OC we see here.

Powers:
I'm sorry, but I'm completely lost on the last paragraph of the powers. It sounds like he's healing people outright, which is a banned power. I'd be okay if he's just transferring energy to people that they can use in lieu of eating. I'd even be open to the idea that this biochemical energy will boost people's natural healing processes, but him being able to reform entire organ systems and missing limbs, well, it would fall under healing, which is a banned power.

History: I like the history well enough up to the point of the Apocalypse section. Apocalypse happened over the course of pretty much a week if you weren't a part of a faction. TV coverage (While it existed, there was an EMP towards the end that caused a worldwide blackout.) would be closer to 9/11 but like, times a million. It would be everywhere. Lenny couldn't avoid it if he wanted to. Just the way its written now, it makes it sound like it was much more dragged out than it really was.

Also, I'm confused, because he switches from being a groundskeeper to a medical doctor, and there's no reference to medical school. To be a doctor in the US, you need 4 years of medical school, then three years of internship and residency. And from what I understand, there's not really any chance for someone to be in medical school and be working in a part time job. Also, while its not impossible for someone to be a goofball doctor, it does stretch credibility for someone who barely got their undergraduate degree to get into med school. If you want him to be a doctor, you'll need to be much explicit about his training.

Also, this isn't your fault, but you joined the X-Men at kind of a weird time. The school just got blown up, so recruitment isn't at the top of their priority list. You're going to want to change it so he got to the mansion before September 1st, or make him a member of a different faction.

Lenny - September 15, 2011 03:32 AM (GMT)
Hello and thank you for checking this application so promptly, also I'm glad you like the character I've created.

Powers:
Sorry about having the banned power incorporated with this character, I had ended up forgetting about which abilities were banned as I played around with several mutant abilities for this character. I have effectively removed the mass creation ability, and have further detailed the energy transfer/metabolism ability, in case there were things that needed some clarifying.

History:
As for Lenny's history I kind of got carried away with his occupations and college experience as he originally didn't have the doctor bit squeezed in. So I'm sorry for that bit of nonsense. I've removed any medical training he had in the application, so now he just has a bachelors in botany and job experience as a groundskeeper/gardener. As for the Apocalypse portion I've tried to tone it down, so hopefully it should be better now. As for the joining of the X-men, I've stated in his history that he joined as a member of the faculty in May, so a couple months prior to the incident that is currently occurring.

Hopefully there aren't too many other issues with this application that you haven't addressed, also I've changed his codename to Metabolisis, as his ability isn't based upon Biomass as much now as it is the biochemical energy.

Buford Hollis - September 15, 2011 04:34 AM (GMT)
Ok, then you should have that he's been there since May in his "Time at the Mansion" section.

Lenny - September 15, 2011 04:45 AM (GMT)
Whoops, sorry about that, okay fixed the "Time at the Mansion" section to fit his history. Also I've extended the post apocalypse history a bit to be more up to date on the current events. Hopefully the history that I've added isn't contradicting to the plot in anyway. Also I've changed his codename to Surplus, with the changes I've made to his ability. His affiliation was also changed from X-men, to more specifically X-men Faculty & Staff.

Also I'm sorry about the multiple edits I've done to this post/the application while waiting for replies.

Betsy Braddock - September 18, 2011 05:20 AM (GMT)
No need to apologise, nothing wrong with making sure details are ironed out.

On behalf of Buford, I confirm his stamp and give my own. I like this OC a lot, he's pretty unique and he'll be interesting to see in play.
