CLOTHING STYLE: Teddy is very casual, as are most teens, but he also enjoy looking his best and having fun with his clothes. He identifies with more neutral and earthy tones, but pumps up his looks with a splash of vibrant color. His drawers are filled with band t-shirts and the like, but there are also polo shirts, sweaters, a-shirts, button-downs etc. Mix and matched textures can also be seen in his style as well, whether it's simply like a wooden beaded bracelet, paired with a leather cuff...or distressed jeans with a woven sweater. He's also in that stage between child and adult, so his sense of style remains youthful while utilizing mature touches. All in all, Teddy is a lively young adult, and his style reflects his exuberance.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Super strength/Durability
While in his neutral state, Teddy's strength is somewhat limited, while remaining greater than that of baseline human. He can shoulder roughly twenty tons comfortably, with anything passed twenty-five tons causing great strain and potentially forcing his shift. While green, his inhibitions loosen (which is the main cause for his limitations) and Teddy is capable of lifting sixty-five to seventy tons comfortably. And, with the aid of determination and copious amounts of adrenaline, he's capable of handling eighty tons for a short window of time. However, overexertion is still an issue, but the release of chemicals allows Teddy to temporarily ignore the strain his body is under. As for durability, Ted is practically human while neutral. However, when shifted, he can survive impact trauma with relative ease. Blunt forces like punches, and a fall from a tall height. He is still susceptible to piercing and burns.

Reactive Metamorphosis
Presently, Teddy's ability to shapeshift is largely reliant upon his emotions, and limited by inexperience and self-imposed boundaries. His ability to change occurs on a cellular level, which means he's capable of growing lost or previously nonexistent tissue. The most obvious example of this talent would be his ability to sprout dragon-like wings from his shoulder blades, which we will revisit later. This gift can manifest in a multitude of ways, such as extending his reach, changing the genetic makeup of his skin, and impersonating others. With practice and emotional control, Teddy will be able to make himself look and sound like any other human or humanoid being. Skin complexion and texture, hair color/length, height, weight, fingerprints, etc. are all potentially under his realm of natural expertise. Be that as it may, he remains ignorant to his full potential, so these skills are largely unavailable to him. There is, however, a specific form he is able to take when under the influence of stronger emotions.

Violent, dire, angry, and passionate feelings are what Teddy must tap into in order to shift into his greener personality. His control over his abilities is so miniscule, that he must be goaded first before changing. When that is finally achieved, however, several physical attributes are added, like a wider access to the aforementioned strength, and armored skin. This change is a subconscious mimicry of the Hulk, as that is who Teddy most relates too. In any case, when properly incited, Teddy grows significantly taller (approximately 7'0") and acquires several pounds of musculature (he becomes roughly one hundred pounds heavier). His body tissue becomes denser, which gives him the durability against concussive force. His shoulders, elbows, knees, and fingers (which resemble claws) become covered with a casing which mimics osseous tissue, and has a plated texture. And, of course, he turns green.
  • Flight
As mentioned before, Teddy is capable of growing a pair of wings that allow flight; however, this takes a fair amount of concentration to achieve. As with his other gifts, this works best when he is faced with an outside treat (such as falling a great distance), but since he is slowly learning to control his body, Teddy can also will them into being. To do so, however, he loses focus on the rest of his shift and reverts back to neutral Ted...with wings. They are made from the same dense components as the rest of his body, but since they are just a thin network of bone and membrane, they are not as durable as the rest. As such, they are a weak point. That being said, they are capable of holding Teddy aloft, even with a passenger or two in tow. Since he can't simply sprout them on a moment's notice, practicing flying isn't currently an option, and hitching a ride on Air Teddy can be turbulent as a result.
  • Accelerated Healing
Since his morphing takes place on a protoplasmic level, Teddy is capable of shifting out of wounds. Though he hasn't mastered his shapeshifting abilities, the healing aspect is a subconscious defense mechanism. Be that as it may, the more extensive the damage, the longer it takes for the tissue to regenerate. He cannot be gouged in one moment, and whole again in the next. But things like staunching blood loss, knitting cuts, and pushing out shards of glass or bullets are all in his wheelhouse. His body is also able to move vital organs out of harm's way, even when he is unconscious. Those types of injuries are relatively simple to heal, but when tissue is taken away, more time and energy is required.
WEAKNESS:
As with any child, inexperience is Teddy's most pressing vulnerability. He simply does not know his body, and is oblivious to his potential. As he stands presently, he only has access to a fraction of his power set, and even that has to be goaded out of him (i.e. his 'Hulk' form). Beyond that, he spends the majority of his time in a human form, which leaves him weakened and defenseless. And though durable, he can be burned, shot, electrocuted, drowned, fatigued, etc. And should he suffer too much damage, or overexert himself, Teddy becomes incapable of holding his shifts together, and reverts to his neutral state. There also is no defense for things such as telepathy, and its ilk. It's important to remember that Teddy is only just now learning the scale of his powers, and just beginning to learn to utilize and control them properly.

PERSONALITY
Teddy’s most dominant personality trait would probably be his unwavering loyalty and affection for the people he cares about. To friends and family, he communicates largely through casual contact. You can see him often draping long arms around shoulders, passing out exuberant bear hugs, or playfully ruffling hair. In essence, contact is how he shows he cares. He tends to be extremely protective of his friends and family, and would go to the ends of the Earth for them. If something bad happens to his loved one, even something that he has no control over, Teddy immediately blames himself...and racks his memory for something he could have done differently. He instinctively tasks himself as the guardian of his flock, and can sometimes be bossy as a result. But at the heart of it, he just wants those he loves to live well, and does his best to make sure that it happens. All they need do is ask for help, and he's at their side; unless he's already sensed their distress...in which case no invitation is necessary. Of course, when someone or something threatens to prevent that from happening, he becomes violent depending on the danger.

Now that we’ve established how loving and dependable Teddy his, let’s talk about his geekiness. When it comes down to superheroes, books, video games, science fiction/fantasy, technology, and comic books, Hulkling knows every name, power, series, costume, Pokemon, gadget, and signature move. Teddy truly is a fanboy at heart, and it shows. Those who know him best know better than to mention a peep about superheroes, because he will go on and on about them for as long as he's allowed. He admires those who give up their lives for the greater good, and can’t help but idolize them. It's his life's wish to one day be counted among them, so he works hard at gaining the proper skills. Unfortunately, this eagerness sometimes makes Teddy a bit foolhardy, which is dangerous for mutants. All he wants is to get out there and save the world, so this makes him rash at times.

Strong and able bodied, Teddy also likes to engage in athletic activity. He is highly active and loves the outdoors. Hiking, camping, swimming, and especially organized sports (he's a social animal, and loves the feel of team effort) are all favorite pastimes of his. Surprisingly quick and nimble, Teddy is not one to trip over his own feet, and his footfalls are light and surefooted. At times he may seem erratic, but in truth he's quite deliberate...and the same deliberation is found in the way he moves. Climbing and jumping especially are his strong suits, and he's never met a climbing wall he didn't want to tackle. Quick and sly, he's the type of person who can enter and leave a room without notice...and was always one of the players found last (if at all) in game of hide-n-seek.

As stated before, Teddy is the type of teen who enjoys the company of friends, and socializing. He was not always the 'popular' guy in school; in fact, the term loser was often synonymous with his name. As such, he's done some things he isn't proud of in order to fit in and be liked. Plenty of boys his age fold under peer pressure, and though he's learned from his mistakes, Teddy is still not immune. He likes for people to enjoy his company, so he may sometimes tell them what they want to hear in order to gain their approval. When out with a group of friends, again, he's the type to look out for them. If they can't shake some drunken douche, for instance, or if a designated driver is needed...that sort of thing.

Work ethic, in Hulkling's opinion, is what makes the future brighter, so he never shies away from getting his hands dirty. In fact, he works hard almost to a fault, especially in times of distress. In Teddy's opinion the only thing that can make a person’s life run smoothly is productivity. Being idle causes gaps where the self doubt, pain, and future uncertainty can ooze through. On the downside of this, it is hard for Teddy to let anyone take care of him, which is usually perceived as him being overly controlling. He doesn't mean to act in such a manner maliciously; he simply sees it as his responsibility to care for others and not the other way around. This quality in him could make for a great leader, but Ted is too ‘’heartstrong’’ to lead; preferring a more supportive role within the unit.

Teddy does tend to take on more than he can accomplish, however, and winds up spreading himself too thin. He is also prone to pick up everyone else's slack as well, often doubling his work load. For instance, he would help a friend move into a new apartment even though he has a game or meeting that day, and a project due after the weekend. People sometimes take advantage of this, and Hulkling is usually too trusting to see that. And with such a heavy work load, he has a tendency to either wear down or stress out; two ingredients which rarely ends well when combined inside a teenage with brute strength. Still, Hulkling typically completes all of his tasks with a good bit of breathing room thanks to his impeccable time management skills.

Through it all, Teddy is just your average (though sometimes green) teenager. He has ups and downs, loves video games, and wants to be well liked (a quest which as lead him to some unfortunate situations). And at his core, he is just a kind and vulnerable boy. And though being himself is sometimes difficult, Teddy is wholly unafraid of wearing his heart on his sleeve. He refuses to let other people’s hang-ups slow him down. Over all, he is generally well-adjusted, cheerful, and optimistic.

HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE
To say that Sonja Altman had a...tumultuous youth would be putting it mildly. She was definitely a crowd pleaser at parties, so no one was surprised when she became pregnant. They were, however, shocked to find out that she planned on bearing and raising the child herself. Though her methods were reckless, Sonja genuinely wanted a child to call hers; her own family. In other words, she took what some people might call an accident or mistake as a blessing to be cherished; an outlook that only solidified when Joseph Siciliano (the most likely paternal prospect) invited her to move in with him and eventually marry him. Though their road would be difficult, two twenty-something-year-olds raising a child, she felt as if her life was destined to improve.

As it turned out, Sonja's future was paved with more difficulty than she expected, because her relationship with Joe wasn't exactly 'fairytale' ending. He personally, was not a cruel or malicious person; however, it soon became evident that the couple was not compatible. Still, together they worked and she eventually brought their child into the world. He was named Theodore, after his maternal grandmother, and was a healthy baby. Quite naturally, there was a vast learning curve in dealing with a new life in their hands, but they had help thanks to Sonja's parents. It was during this time that the young mother did a fair amount of growing up in a short span of time, and though there were dark times, she never regretted the decisions that lead her to this path. And so, a few months after Teddy's second birthday, Sonja went back to school to become a paralegal, while Joe (an aspiring mineralogist) worked construction.

From what Teddy can remember, his formative years were typical...even though his parents seemed to fight quite a lot. He was an inquisitive child, always following his caregivers around and inspecting their activities. And to be sure, this childish thirst for intrigue and experience is something he would never grow out of. In any case, Teddy's earliest years were modest, and nondescript. His love of stories and adventure developed even before he could properly speak, and he'd often beg his parents to read him books as a result. It was his father who began to read him comic books before tucking him to bed, showing him the vibrant pages as he mimicked the characters' voices and manner. It was a simple lifestyle, and far from perfect, but it was still enjoyable...and had its precious moments, from what he can remember. This is why his father's sudden desertion left Teddy terribly hurt and confused.

As far as Teddy knows, the rapid decline of their family unit happened after his parents agreed to a parental test. Sonja's past reputation wasn't lost on Joseph, but he did not blame her for it...after all, he too had a wild streak. Still, he told himself, it was better to know. The Altmans were a family who were permanently strapped for cash, so after saving up, they went ahead and bought the lab work. Teddy was barely out of his toddler years, so the whole affair is still fuzzy to him, and his mother rarely talks about it in great detail. He assumes, however, that Joseph was not truly his father, because the man left their home soon after; taking everything he owned save for his cherished rock and mineral collection. Though Sonja did not necessarily love her husband, his abandonment came as a cold blow, and made her life immensely harder.

An absentee parent usually gives the children affected some kind of complex, and in Teddy's case, it manifested in the desire to be liked and needed. If his father did not wish to be around, then clearly it must be his fault...he did something wrong, or something was just naturally wrong with him. As a result, he suffered through a rather awkward phase during his time in elementary school. Shy and timid, he didn't wish to mess up or cause problems for anyone, so he retreated into himself. When he finally started school, he generally kept to himself, despite the fact that he wished he could play and interact with his fellow students. This coupled with his apparent enjoyment of things his peers deemed 'nerdy', as well as a gangly frame drew in their ire. Whether they thought him aloof or just odd, a handful of his classmates made it a point to make Teddy feel low about himself...even as he tried to please them.

With time, this would fade however, and so did Teddy. Blending into the background, he didn't seem to make a difference in any one's lives, and went through the motions at school on a daily basis. However, during the summer before his first year in high school, he suddenly grew into himself. His acne cleared, teeth straightened, jeans filled out, and he grew several inches taller. It was no coincidence that this was the same year his abilities quietly became active. Subconsciously, Teddy changed himself to match the stereotypical benchmark of attractiveness and masculinity, in the effort to fit in. However, to the world (and even himself) it merely looked as if he'd grown out of his ugly duckling phase. And true to form, the difference in how he was perceived was nearly instantaneous. Classmates who never so much as glanced his way were suddenly friendlier, girls began noticing him, and he was invited to join the freshman basketball team by the team captain/class president himself...Greg Norris. In short, they all acted as though he hadn't gone to school with them for nine years.

As it turned out, Teddy's height and innate strength made him a natural at the sport, which he found he genuinely enjoyed. In schools across America, athletic talent is lauded, and the bemused teen found himself in a whirlwind of notoriety as a result. Teachers and students alike clapped him on the back as his sports stats racked up in points, and all the while Teddy (and his mother) kept a secret. The blonde's burgeoning strength was a lot greater than the 225lbs bench press he faked during weight training. It became evident that he was a mutant, because no matter how many weights he put on the bar, pressing them was incredibly easy. In his fright, he showed his mother, and she advised him to keep it to himself, but supported him otherwise.

Teddy's newfound physical superiority was only the tip of the iceberg, however, for his acclaim seemed to come with a price. In order to fit in with his new crowd, he had to assimilate to their customs, and therefore belittle his peers just as he'd been years ago. He never enjoyed it the way the others seemed to, but he went along with bare minimum in order to mollify them for his entire freshman year. Having just achieved popularity, he wasn't so eager to throw it all aside. Greg especially was a friend to Teddy, and he found himself coming clean about his athletic prowess despite his mother's warning. In reality, Teddy's crush on the boy clouded his judgment, and holding onto such a big secret was difficult in and of itself. However, Greg wasn't horrified or angry with Teddy for lying, in fact he was elated. Whether he was blind to it, or willfully delusional, the teen didn't realize that he was just being used the entire time...and that Greg fully intended to continue toying with him.

The end of Teddy's public school career began after he was tricked into meeting Greg and a few others at a gas station after hours. Greg's request was simple; just force open the locks to allow them to ransack the alcohol, snacks, and whatever cash they could find so they could have a proper party. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back, however, and the teen refused vehemently. In an instant, Greg's demeanor change, and Teddy was no longer considered a friend...he was clearly a freak of nature. No time was wasted on the ringleader's part, who began ousting Teddy the very next school day. First on his list, was the basketball coach, and the school board became involved soon after. Sonja was as fed up with lying as her son, it would seem, because she brazenly told the school board the truth, and whisked him out of the school system. Though the affair sadden the teen, his mother's actions endeared her to him even more...and he knew the change would be for the best in the end.

DURING APOCALYPSE (April 5th through April 12th, 2009)
At the time, it seemed as if his world was ending, since everything he worked for was swiftly taken away, and his existence in the school was deemed unfair to other students. But before he could properly mourn the loss of his social life, the real apocalypse threatened to end the world. Burlington was plagued with cataclysmic storms, and the entire eastern seaboard was nearly blown away. Lake Champlain was flooded in minutes, and Burlington was turned into a water world. The devastation would be terrible, and the state (country and world, for that matter) was destined to be decimated. Teddy however, being a rash superpowered teenager couldn't idly sit by and 'ride out the worst of it'.

While the storm still raged on that historic day, an uprooted evergreen fell into the Altman's neighbor's home while its occupants huddled inside. Even above the roar of the wind, the resulting crash was thunderous, and shook their foundation. Before his mother could protest, Teddy was out the window (which had already shattered) and wading across the street. The winds threatened to blow him three counties over, but he managed to keep his footing regardless and safely made it to the demolished home. With a great heave, he moved the tree out of their living room, and entered the wreckage...calling out in vain (for the wind took his voice away) for the survivors. Eventually, he found the couple but debris had crushed the wife, and the husband suffered an angry looking head wound. With determination, the teen began to dig them out of the rubble. When his efforts were greeted with an earsplitting shriek, Teddy only had a split second to cover both man and woman with his body before being struck by someone's roof...

When he came to, Teddy was surrounded by what had to be military medics, and other officials. As it happened, one of said official was a S.H.I.E.L.D field agent, and a mutant. After Teddy gave one of the National Guard soldiers his information, the agent slipped the teen a recommendation, and contact information. It took some convincing on his mother's part, but he went on to begin his junior year at Xavier's six months later.

POST-APOCALYPSE
It wouldn't be long before Teddy learned that there was never a dull moment at Xavier's. On his first day he was nervous, understandably, but in an eager and optimistic way. A school for mutants was his new lease on life, and the perfect place for him, since he would finally be able to just be himself. And, in his new environment, he found that doing just that was easy...liberating even, and he thrived as he never had before. But when students and faculty alike began (seemingly) blinking out of existence, and returning as radically different people, he had to acknowledge the fact that the world was more complicated than it seemed. Nevertheless, the extra dimensional battle was won by the right side, apparently. In truth, he still hasn't wrapped his head around that one.

There was relative peace in the year that followed, at least for Teddy. His new life continued in an as mundane a fashion as one could expect at Xavier's. With the help of the faculty, he began to explore the truth nature of his gifts; managing to do simply things like change his hair color and the like. As he trained, he found himself to be stronger than he'd originally imagined, and that his body healed at an alarming rate. The improvement was slow, yet steady, and seemed to give the youth a general sense of accomplishment. This feeling would only increase on his graduation day a year later with excellent marks.

Things seemed to be heading in a positive place for the teen, who began college at Pace University (online) after his summer break while continuing his studies at Xavier's. However, his life would change considerably following the attack on the school by religious zealots. Everything literally exploded, and Teddy was left to climb out of several feet of rubble after regaining consciousness as well as his bearings. When he emerged, there was little more than fire and ruin around him. The crying faces of adults and children alike peppered the grounds, and Teddy was no exception. There was no time to think, however, so he simply turned and began the task of blindly looking for survivors until adults came to show him how to do it correctly. With his body reacting toward dangers on an instinctual level, Teddy had been extremely fortunate.

The events of that date are now remembered as a waking dream, both vague and befuddled. The wails of the injured and pleas of the trapped haunt him still, but the second wave of attack is what truly prevents Teddy from getting more than restless catnaps. Not because the so called 'Purifiers' were particularly frightening, but because of the hate and rage they incited within the teen. Hurt and furious, he became dangerously close to killing for the first time, and remembering the state in which he left the humans he encountered chills him to this day.

SAMPLE RP POST:
A vague sense of awareness colored Teddy's world as he came to, causing him to blink awkwardly at the light and mumble something intelligibly in protest. In that moment, nothing made sense, and he didn't care either. He simply floated as consciousness fought to wrest control from oblivion. The cot beneath him creaked and complained as he stirred, and threatened to cave under his weight. Instinctively, the teen raised a hand in defense against the dazzling road lamp that glared down at him so ruthlessly. Then something sparked dimly in the rather dusty corners of his mind...he noticed that his hand was large, clawed, and green.

"Ny-ah!" He yelled, quickly sitting bolt upright and shaking his hand frantically as if he could fling it away. The sudden movement proved to be a mistake, because his head swam dizzily as a result. However, nothing was as bizarre or disorienting as the abrupt shift in his perspective or the odd rippling sensation in his body as it folding inward. Before his very eyes, Teddy watched as his hand reverted back to its normal self; still large, but not in a Jolly Green Giant way. The change paired with his aching head made the bemused boy wretch without warned, and empty the contents of his stomach in a messy pile beside his cot. "Bleh, that was not fun..." He groaned, as he wiped his mouth with the hem of his apparently tattered and sopping hoodie. In his fright, and then sickness, Teddy didn't even notice all the people around him, nearly all of whom had recoiled away from the sight of the stirring monster. His mother, however, was not one of those people, though her face was as frightened as the rest of them.

"Son?" She probed. "Oh thank heavens, are you alright?" Sonja had been talking to the medic just moments before, but she ran to her child's side as quick as a wink. It was she who led the National Guard to her neighbors' house, where they found a seven foot tall unconscious green man, whose body shielded a rather dazed and frightened looking young couple.
---
"I don't know, ma'am." The medic was saying just moments before, failing in his job to reassure Ms. Altman. "I've tried everything I know, but his body simply won't allow an further inquiry. His breathing is regular, so I can only say that it looks as though he is repairing himself somehow-ACK!" Teddy's hasty emergence made the medic jump, and cut the man's sentence short...not that Sonja noticed.
---
"Take it slow, hun..." She instructed, trying (and failing) to hold back tears of relief. Unlike her child, Sonja wasn't able to battle the gale force winds, and had to wait as a result, not knowing whether Teddy was dead or alive. After she made sure he was okay, the boy would get an earful from her, but currently she was just glad to have him alive and well.

"Mom?" He managed to say in between coughs. "...You look a bit damp." In truth, the entire makeshift infirmary was still wet from the rain, which he was only now beginning to realize. With his newfound attentiveness also came the understanding that everyone there (and conscious) was obviously terrified of him. Well, everyone except his mother, and a soldier in a strange uniform; she just had a smirk on her face. Even through his haze, this fact saddened him; though he could hardly blame them...he was just as terrified as they. "Ugh, what was that...I think I'm going crazy? I must've bump my head or something." He continued, feeling better with each passing second.

"You did more than bump your head, though I must have dropped you on yours a few time when you were a child. But no, definitely not going crazy...the soldiers found you like that, Ted. Green, and huge. We clearly have a lot to learn about you." She grasped his hand in both of her own, and leaned over to kiss him on forehead. "But I'm not going to complain, whatever happened to you saved your life...and the Thomas' too. But I swear to you know, if you ever do something so stupid again, you will need more than green skin to protect you from me."

"I uh, ma'am, if everything is alright I'm going to tend to the others. I will be back to double check on your son." And with that, he scurried off a bit too eagerly for Teddy's liking.

"Don't pay them any mind." Sonja reassured, as the blonde's face fell. In truth, however, she was more than a bit worried herself. It was worrying, being a mother and not knowing what wass happening to her child...or how to help. Looking upon that hulking creature and knowing that he was her Teddy was just, bizarre.

"Your mother's right, kid." Said the smirking lady, who approached just as the area around Teddy's cot cleared. "No matter what you do, like risk your life saving your neighbors, people will always see what they want. But as someone special, it's your job to make them take a closer look...at the very least. I'm S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Traxler." She stuck out a gloved hand, which Teddy shook meekly. "Now look, the world nearly ended so I'm a bit strapped for time...and supervising these bozos [she mouthed the word] takes all of my attention. However, when I saw a giant green teenager on a stretcher, I simply had to get a closer look. But I digress. Anyway kid, you seem to be alone out here and I just wanted to say that you don't have to be." Pausing, she took out a piece of paper and passed it over to Teddy's mother. "Now, Miss...?"

"Ms. Altman."

"Right, Ms. Altman...now I really want you to think long and hard about calling these people. And you'll have to forgive the sogginess, but what can ya do? Anyway, they are good folks who could help your son. And you, young man, I want you to think long and hard about joining up when you're of age; we can use more recruits like you." With a wink and a wave, Agent Traxler flew (yes flew) off to complete her search for stragglers the massive hordes' stragglers...not needing to supervise the National Guard at all. Blinking perplexedly, Sonja passed the paper to her son, and he saw that it held the Agent's contact information, along with the phone number for a school called; Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. There was an arrow that pointed to the school's title, and beside that the Traxler's scrawl spelled: 'for people like us...' Suddenly feeling lightheaded, he gave his mother a lopsided smile, and said:

"Am I going to have to clean that up?" And pointed toward the forgotten puddle of sick.
