POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Teleportation Disks: Illyana’s main power is her ability to create “Stepping disks” to which she can use to travel a great distances. There has yet to be a location that she has been unable to teleport to. The disks that are created surround her and whatever else she wants to take with her. Illyana has to move to her midway point first before she can teleport again to Earth. Once at her midway point, Illyana is able to leave anything there that she chooses from objects to people.

To teleport an object it must be in eye site. She does not have to be touching an object to be able to bring it with her to her. Teleporting multiple objects is also doable but it does create additional strain on her especially if they are spread out in a wide area.

Organic armor: Much like her older brother, Illyana body can become incased in hardened steel. Unlike her brother she only develops this on the surface which can even grow over her clothing. The amount to which is formed is controlled by her will. This allows her to cover only parts of her body at time like a single fist or foot. The maximum surface area that is covered consists of her arms and chest moving down to her torso and stopping just below her bellybutton. It appears again encompassing her right leg. Only a small portion of her back is protected as the armor does not move past her shoulder blades.

The armor grants her increased strength enabling her to lift around 10 tons. An increase in durability is attained from the armor which can shield her from everything from punches to bullets.

WEAKNESS: The greater the distends of the teleportation increases the risk of error in time displacement. Illyana can’t control the amount the time which can cause her to move both forwards and back words in time. Despite not being able to control this she can always jump back to the location and time when she first left. From there it is determined how many jumps it would take to move to the right location. The distance at which error can occur usually manifests itself if she tries to teleport over 50 miles.
Depending on how many people she transports and the distance she is from them can also create a great strain on her. Anything greater than eight people can cause a fatigue upon her which leads to an added increase of error in time displacement.

The armor that appears on her body does not cover all of it. The small of her back, head, left leg and sides are vulnerable to anything that could hurt an ordinary human being. While in an armored state, Illyana is susceptible to magnetism which can create a great deal of strain on her joints.

The armor that covers her body does not take place internally. If something were to be strong enough to break the armor it would cause a great deal of damage to her muscle and bone. Due to the increased wait of the armor Illyana tiers out more easily than she would if fighting without it. While in armored form Illyana is not able to swim and will continue to sink unless she reverts to normal.

PERSONALITY
The nature in which Illyana grew up left her scared and undeveloped when it comes to interactions with other people. Having her body mature without any experiences to go with it left a social void with people which contributes to her inability to communicate effectively. To this end she tries to make a good first impression on people who she has newly met. It also causes her to second guess herself and maul over in her head if she said the right or wrong thing.

In some instants she is at a loss for words which can cause her to become frustrated with the situation. Such as not being able to tell when people are using sarcasm or making cultural references. To this end the only thing she has learned to do is smile and nod her head in hopes that the topic won’t be brought up again until she can figure out what was being discussed.

This in turn leads to the more curious side of her personality. Due to missing over a decade of growing up, new activities are always being sought after. Wither it be going to take in the sites or reading a book, Illyana is curious about the world she lives in. She could easily spend hours on a park bench sitting in silence watching the people pass her by coming up with individual stories for all of them.

Illyana also has a darker side to her which she tries to hide to the best of her capabilities. In some cases nothing would make her happier than pronouncing judgment over individuals who in her eyes are doing wrong. However due to not knowing the ways of the world, she has learned to hold off in acting too hastily towards people.

HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Illyana was the youngest child born to the Rasputin household. Growing up on a farm with two older brothers was all she knew as a child. Being isolated from most of the world meant her helping out around the house farm. The tasks that were given to her were simple ones. Most tasks consisting of running water out to her father and brothers or any other members of the collective. Life as it appeared at the time would be normal for any girl growing up on a farm in Siberia.

The universe however, had something different in mind for the Rasputin household. Illyana’s oldest brother Mikhail left the farm not being content with an average life and while it was sad for her to see him go, the time leading up to was putting a great deal of strain on the family that even a little seven year old could pick up on. She was happy with the knowledge that Piotr would be staying to continue to help out with the chores. Sadly this was not meant to last either.

After Mikhail left the farm things continued as normal for a while. Illyana did her best to try and work harder knowing that the family had one less pair of hands. It was due to this new found work ethic that the little Russian found herself in need of a break after running water out to her older brother. Sitting down for a moment and cleaning off some dirt that had accumulated on herself and her doll while running back and forth from the house was all the time that was needed for a runaway tractor to progress towards her unnoticed.

The tractor would have been the end of her if her brother had not intervened. Putting himself in harm’s way, Piotr transformed for the first time into his organic-steel form. In his state of invulnerability, the tractor did not stand a chance of taking Illyana’s life. Being too young to understand what a mutant was, Illyana’s opinion of her big brother did not change just because he turned silver and could stop runaway farm equipment. The people living in the collective however seemed to be divided in their idea over Piotr’s new found power.

It was only a short time later that the American known as Xavier would come to their doorstep. Time passed and Piotr ended up leave the farm much like Mikhail had done. Whatever the reason behind it Illyana was saddened knowing that once again she would be losing her brother. Try as she did to be mad at him for leaving, which did not last long, Illyana vaguely understood that other people were in need of her brother’s help as well.

Despite her best efforts she could not convince her mother and father to send her to America along with her brother. They said the school was for people that were gifted. Illyana took this to mean a school for brainy people and decided that she too would work hard to become smart. In her spare time she would try and learn as much as she could from the workers in the field and at school. She even asked her brother to send her books from America so that she could pick up English. Life became pretty routine for the youngest Rasputin.

This feeling of normality was only short lived as word came from the government concerning Mikhail. The program had claimed his life. Such was the official statement the Rasputin’s had received. With this taking place during one of Piotr’s visits, Illyana did not want him to leave. She feared she would never see him again if he left again back to America. This lead to the attempt at stowing away in his luggage but it was no use. Once again she was left behind.

Not long after the departure of her older brother did strange men in suits appear on the collective. They came at first with smiles and warm handshakes. However, when they left it was with threats and the shouting of obscenities that seven year old could not fully comprehend. Illyana thought that she would never again see the men who made her father so upset, but a few days had past and the suits once again returned this time with no intention of talking.

Illyana was told by her mother to run and hide, hide so that no one could find her and to only come out when she was told. This was the incident which triggered her mutation. While hiding under her bed a portal appeared around her and just like that she was gone. Leaving behind her father and mother to the men in suits.

The new land that Illyana found herself in was a strange compared to what was used to. The land seemed to be a desert with a few hills and dying plants. The ground was cracked and void of water while the sky, even with a sun was red in color. Not knowing where she was or how she got there, Illyana cried out for someone, anyone to save her.

Sadly there was no one out there to hear her cries. For the longest time Illyana just sat in the dirt not knowing what had happened to her. One minute she was under her bed and the next she was in a vast desert as far as the eye could see. Being only able to entertain self-pity for a while, Illyana got up and began walking.

Not knowing where she was going meant she didn’t know where or when to stop. The only logical thing she could think of at the moment was to walk until she found help. It only took a few hours however before she began to feel tired and hungry. But in the desert like land scape there was nothing she could do but keep walking.

Just as all hope seemed lost, and the young Illyana was ready to give up she heard a familiar sound. It was the first sound that she had heard since she got there. The running water could be heard in the distance which caused Illyana to run as fast as her tiered legs could carry her. The short stride came to an abrupt halt as Illyana found herself on the edge of a cliff looking down at the running water below.

Had she not been so thirsty she might have assessed the situation differently. Instead she began to climb down the side of the cliff in an attempt to reach the water below. With the current level of fatigue that she was facing and having never climbed anything in her life; it was only a matter of time before her muscles gave way. At first she did everything in her power to try and regain her footing or grab onto a rock that was sticking out.

Clawing at the dirt started to work for as she started to slow down and eventually came to a stop. Sliding down the cliff, Illyana had managed to kick up enough dirt in her face to hide the reason she was able to get a grip. When the dirt had finally settled she looked at her hands which were covered in a silver plating. The initial shock was just enough for her to lose her steel grip and her footing. Illyana once again found herself falling and was unable to stop.

Tumbling down the cliff side, Illyana did everything her tiered body could to lessen her speed to be able to survive the fall. And it worked. Illyana hit the ground hard, hard enough to have the wind knocked out of her. Combining that with the level of exhaustion was all her body could handle before she passed out.

Waking several hours later, Illyana was surprised to even be alive. Looking over her body, she was surprised to see how little she had actually been hurt. Primarily due to a silver armor that had covered almost half her body. Being able to stand with only minor pain was just about as amazing as the armor that had manifested. It was at that time that her belly once again reminded her of the mission it had put her on which caused her to climb down the face of the cliff to begin with.

Limping her way over to the creek bed and falling to her knees she began to drink and drink pausing only to breath. Wiping her mouth on her tattered sleeve, Illyana noticed two things. The first was the metal that had surrounded her body was gone. The second was the reflection in the slow moving water was not her own. Starring back at her was a young woman in her mid-twenties and not the preteen that had been hiding under a bed.

At first she thought her mind was playing tricks on her, but the truth was staring back at her plain as day. After pacing back and forth, and staring into the river bed on occasion, Illyana finally picked a direction and started walking once more. She followed the flowing water until it reached a cave that was went into the cliff side and disappeared into darkness.

Despite having the body of an adult, Illyana was not very excited about following the creek into the cave. However her only alternative was to either turn around and go the other way, or to try and climb back up the cliff. Needless to say she decided to keep moving forward. What little light that had been present at the start of her journey into the cave had now vanished entirely. Illyana could only hear the stream whose sound had been getting louder the further she traveled into the cave.

Taking smaller steps and placing her hand on the wall was all she could do to try and prevent anything else to happen to her. Unfortunately the precaution was not enough. Setting her good foot down in front of the bad one, Illyana expected to find solid ground beneath her. Instead she found nothing but air.

For the second time that day Illyana found herself falling only this time it was in darkness. The event triggered an old memory of hers when she was little. The time when she was young and had jumped out the barn window, with her eyes closed, into the hay stacks like her big brothers. It was at that moment a familiar disk formed around her, taking her to the exact same spot outside her barn back home.

Looking up at the cloudy sky and feeling the cold breeze on her backside told her she was back home. Making her to her house Illyana was surprised to find what was on the other side of her front door. A family that was not her own was sitting down eating dinner much like she had done before being transported to the barren wasteland.

Having been taken in by the family that moved into her old home, Illyana heard strange stories of everything she had missed in only a few years. It was during this time she learned her parents had been killed and her older brother Piotr was branded a fugitive. With nothing of hers left on the farm there was nothing tying her down to the farm. Setting out to find the people who had murdered her parents was the only thing she could think of.

Try as she might she was simply no good finding the men who she blamed had killed her parents. She had gotten into several encounters and arranged meeting after meeting with anyone who had information on the people involved. As a means to defend herself she even took up sword fighting as a means of defending herself whenever her meetings did not turnout as planned. At first she would often have to teleport out of dangerous situations leaving her would be attackers dumbfounded. This was how she was given the nickname Magik, because right before they would catch her she would simply disappear on them or make other people disappear and never again be heard from.

DURING APOCALYPSE (April 5th through April 12th, 2009) At the time in which the Apocalypse rising was taking place, Illyana was still in was still in Siberia. At this point she was living on and off at her old farm and going to school to continue her education and catch up on the years she lost. It was while she was at school that the armies of Apocalypse surfaced and destroyed Paris. The television broadcast that was being watched was preceded by an earthquake that took out the better portion of the school and surrounding blocks.

Illyana had wanted nothing more than to leave the devastation that was caused by the awakening of Apocalypse but that was not an option. Instead she found herself moving throughout the city rescuing people who had been trapped by collapsed building or other wreckage. Her thanks were short lived and eventually she found herself having to defend herself against the vary people she was trying to save. The strangers and classmates had chased her out of an attempt at making a normal life.

POST-APOCALYPSE Any attempt by Illyana to have a normal life seemed to be out of the question. After trying to attend school to gain the education she was denied as a child failed, she once again returned to the farm she grew up on. The one place where she thought she still had a home. This however was not the case as the people who lived there remembered the trouble that having a mutant around caused. While she did her best to help out and stay out of the way there was just no balancing the two to find a normal life.

The family that had first taken her in did their best to try and convince the others no more trouble would follow. Illyana could tell the trouble her presence was causing on the ones who took her in. Her hands were too stained with blood to live out the rest of her days on the farm. The host family that had tried so hard to keep the young woman, who they knew as a child safe, was not an option. It was at this point that she had been given Xavier’s address to where she used to write her brother letters.

The envelope had been saved by the family along with other scarps of forgotten papers that just seemed to accumulate over the years. Illyana had believed that if she was wanted at Xavier’s that he would have come for her like he did Piotr. Still, life in America couldn’t be much worse than what she was dealing with on a regular bases at her old home. It was to this mentality that Illyana set off to America to be reunited with her brother. Luckily she still had a contact in underground dealings, from her not so distant past, that could forge the needed documents to get her into America.

SAMPLE RP POST:

Standing alone in an alley waiting for information seemed as bad of an idea as it was a cliché but it was necessary. The only thing that could be herd was the cold wind and a few cars in the distant background. It was like any other day. A day that seemed would never end.

Illyana’s head turned as she caught site of a vehicles lights approach her. Having reached a dead end over the last few weeks Illyana agreed to a meeting with a mystery man by Irving. Irving had been the go to guy ever since she first started her journey. The man stepping out of the car was indeed her informant which she had gotten to know over these past few months. Stepping out of the passenger’s seat was a second man who could not be made seen over the flurry of snow that had kicked up.

“And who might you be?” She asked after not being able to make out the man in the suit. Having moved around in front of the car the man’s face was now viewable in the dim lit alley. It was a man from Illyana’s past. If she didn’t know any better she would have sworn he was still wearing the same suit as when she first laid eyes on him.

Sticking her hands inside her winters coat pocket, Illyana could feel her sword through the heavy jacket even with half froze hands. Fearful of how the situation was staring to unravel Illyana wanted to make sure that she was fully covered up. The coat was not only good at keeping her warm but also hiding her mutant armor. Along with the sword which she had carried with her ever since she first set out for revenge had become a security blanket that Illyana liked to grab hold of whenever she became nervous.

Taking her eyes off the man in the suit was almost as big of a mistake as agreeing to a meeting in a back alley in the first place. The man in the suit took his hands out of his pocket and shot the young woman aiming for her heart. Falling to the ground and playing dead seemed like a good idea at the time. It became less of a good idea when the man approached her, gun still in hand only this time he was aiming for her head.

Illyana reached for her sword and swiped at the man cutting at his wrist which caused him to drop his weapon. Unarmed the man in the suit ran back to his friend in the car. “Run her over.” He yelled as he tried to put pressure on the wound. Rising to her feat with the help of her sword Illyana thought the two were going to drive away. She was shocked to find the two on a collision course.

Not wanting to be run over was as good a reason as for Illyana to use her powers. Opening up a portal in front of her big enough for the car to go through along with the two inhabitants inside of it, Illyana would wait only a second before following after them. Over the years she had gotten pretty good with placing objects in specific spots. In the case of the car it was on the edge of a cliff.

Teleporting herself to the bottom of the cliff Illyana found the two men who were in much worse shape than the car. The driver had been crushed between the steering wheel and seat while the man who had been cut with the sword was thrown from the vehicle. His body was twisted and broken yet he still managed to survive.

Walking over to the half broken man, she kneeled down next to him in the dirt. She had thought of so many different things she had wanted to say to the man responsible for ruining her life. All the anger and rage she had felt growing up alone was because of this man. Sadly nothing sophisticated came out of her mouth. Only the tiered words of a young woman forced to grow up before her time.

“The chances of you even remembering me or my family are slim to none, so I won’t bother you with my story. Let’s us simply leave it as you had this coming. If not by me than I am sure the countless others you hurt along your path. You deserve so much worse than this but to be honest with you I am tiered of this life and people like you.”

Extending her hand out to the man caused him to reach out in kind. Illyana ignored the outstretched hand that was asking for compassion. Shifting her left arm to its metallic state, she placed it over the man’s mouth and nose. He tried to fight it for as long as he could but it was no use. Slowly his grip faded as his arm fell to the ground motionless. Standing upright Illyana took one final look at the body feeling no better off than when she first started her quest for revenge.

Summoning her stepping disk once more, Illyana returned to the run down lodge she was staying in having to go back to square one. The stacks of paper and photos which were littered throughout the room would have to wait as revenge was taxing on both the sole and the body. Without even bothering to strip off her coat or remove her boots, she fell face first into her bed and drifted off to sleep.

I did read the rules and I do know it is a long shot given she is on the banned list, but I asked an admin who said it would not be impossible. So thought I would give it the old college try and see if I could get her approved.

Crystal - December 19, 2011 06:12 AM (GMT)
This application is held until the applicant has spoken with Colossus' player. Once Colossus signs off on this application, it will be open for review.

Colossus - December 19, 2011 07:17 AM (GMT)
I'm Piotr 'Colossus' Rasputin, and I approve this Sister. Hahaha.
Yeah, I'm cool with the App. Let's get to Judging it. :)

Captain America - December 19, 2011 06:32 PM (GMT)
This Application is now open for review.

Magneto - December 22, 2011 05:03 AM (GMT)
While we appreciate your effort to try and adapt Magik to fit this board, I'm afraid we can't accept it as it is. Our main problem with the application is the inclusion of Limbo, Belasco, and the like. We would need you to edit out these parts of her history and redo it accordingly. Otherwise, it is off to a good start.

Please reply with an answer or respond to this post after making necessary edits.

Magik - December 22, 2011 12:04 PM (GMT)
Okay I went ahead and edited everything out of her profile that had to do with Belasco or Limbo. Referring to it only as a desert like place void of life.

Let me know if I missed something or need to fix anything else.

Magneto - January 5, 2012 02:07 AM (GMT)
First off, Apocalypse history... the entire world was effected by this. Even in Siberia there would be some kind of avalanche, earthquake, upheaval. Hell... maybe even a volcano popping up in the middle of the tundra. I find it hard to believe that she got no wind of the end of the world coming or didn't care. Not only that, but between apocalypse and now spans two years which you summed up in about a paragraph. We're going to need a little more detail on what she's been doing or where she is in the present time (where you wanted to bring her into game play).

Second, I'm inclined to let the possibility of time travel due to error in teleportation stick, but I do reserve the right to withdraw that. It's important to the development of your character and could be possibly used for future plots, however I need to talk to a few people before I give a definite answer on this. Please expound on your history a little more and I will get back with you on this. I will be reviewing your app more regularly now that the new years has begun.

Please respond after you have made the correct changes.

Magik - January 9, 2012 10:48 AM (GMT)
Alright, I went over the parts in her history that had been listed as needing to be fixed. Let me know what other corrections needed to be added or if I need to do something with the time traveling aspect of the teleportation error.

Magneto - January 9, 2012 11:37 PM (GMT)
I think I am good on this, therefore, I will approve it.

[STAMP]

You have received one of two approvals. While you have satisfied me enough to acquire one, you may be asked to make other changes to satisfy the other reviewer. Once you have done so and receive approval from him or her, you will be moved to accepted and then will be allowed to post.

Hi Chris, thank you for your patience so far.

I have a few points, but not many so bear with me for a little longer.

In your Apocalypse history, you say that ‘most of Europe’ was destroyed by Apocalypse’s armies, which wasn’t the case. One Horseman (Death) attacked Paris and then London, creating a number of converts, but he was taken down on the same day he attacked, in London. Really, all I need is for you to reword your mentions to make them fit with our history.

If you want to, you can read that particular thread here

In your Post Apocalypse history, you have her setting off for America to be with her brother. When was this? Did she teleport there? The school was blown up in game on September 1st and no doubt Colossus would have been in contact with her since that time. The school is now based in Utopia in the Savage Land and there are a smaller number of X-men who operate out of New York City. Can you clarify if she was aware of the school bombing and when she arrived at the school. If it was before the bombing, then you will need to detail what she did during the Purifiers attack.

Also, just to note but I don’t see why the fact that she did not age normally makes her mind more resistant to psychics. Explain this better, or please remove it.

If you need any help with the game plot, or anything else then you are welcome to get in touch with either myself or another member of staff. Otherwise, please respond to this thread once you have made your tweaks, thanks.

Magik - January 11, 2012 08:24 AM (GMT)
Okay so I tried to explain/flesh out the part about resistance to telepaths and how it was related to her brain developing. I can get more scintific if needed regarding the relationship to age and brain development.

Also edited the part about Europe being destroyed and changed it over to just Paris.

As far as her being introduced to the boards current time line, she is going to take a plane to America to the old address she had for Xavier's where her letters went. There, she will find out the mansion was destroyed but as far as she currently knows it is still standing as she was not aware of the attack made by the Purifiers. At the ruins is where she would run into some X-Men who stayed behind and ultimately have her end up reuniting with her brother.

Betsy Braddock - January 12, 2012 12:19 AM (GMT)
Okay with the memory thing, you’re assuming a telepath would be interested on what sort of cake she had on her twelfth birthday and other trivial childhood matters. However, I’m seeing no reason why a telepath would not be able to access her short term memory/surface thoughts, as this is a separate process from long term memory.

Naturally, a telepath can’t read what isn’t there, so will be unable to access these gaps, but other than that I’d prefer if you dropped the psionic shields. It mainly seems to me to be a factor you’ve tried to pull over from her Limbo-related abilities, and it doesn’t really work without that context.

As for turning up at the school, it’s not impossible to presume that she hadn’t heard about the Purifiers attack, but it did probably make world headlines what with the subsequent reveal of the schools true nature, but I’m not going to make you change this, I’m just trying to illustrate the state of the world.

I’m also going to assume she has all the correct documents such as passports and visas, or someone ‘helped’ her here, otherwise she wouldn’t be getting into America in the first place.

Colossus has confirmed he’s alright with everything involving him in the application, so once you’ve adjusted the shielding stuff, I’ll be fine with this app. Thanks for your patience and if you need help with your intro to the board, you’re welcome to get in touch with staff.

Magik - January 12, 2012 02:00 AM (GMT)
Alright I took out the part around the shielding. I did try and hang onto it but it makes since as wiki says its part of her demon soul and her's is still human. I added a little part in there about her getting paperwork to get her into the country.

Betsy Braddock - January 12, 2012 02:18 AM (GMT)
Thanks for making all of our changes. I'm sorry if it's been a pain, but as you can appreciate, Magik is a very tricky canon to adapt to a site such as this.
