CLOTHING STYLE: Gavin dresses much like any metal and pop punk junky does. Favoring flannels, v-necks, hoodies, and leather jackets over most anything else. When it comes to fashion, he seems to care more for comfort and what he personally prefers over the latest trend.
UNIFORM: He wears a black suit sporting a hood (Not a fashion statement, but a rain repelent), with the X symbol offset on the left side of the chest in yellow. It is made of a material that does not overheat, for obvious reasons due to the nature of his mutation. The suit itself is made to store massive amounts of electricity and lined with materials made for him to more easily conduct electricity, in or out.
POWERSGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Gavin is in all aspects of his mutation electrokenetic. Every molecule of his body is constantly storing and (at least attempting) to give off electricity. Through years of dealing with this mutation, he can control the amount of electricity released from none at all for extended periods of time, to incredible amounts in short bursts. It also allows him to go extremely long duration without nourishment or sleep, as his body can almost run solely off electricity. He can amplify himself physically by sending surges of electricity through his body, giving him increased brain activity (however risky it can potentially be), surges of speed and strength, (Which can range from 50 to 150mph bursts of speed, and up to quintuple his strength, which would effectively use most of his stored electricity) for roughly five minutes consistently or up to an hour in momentary short bursts. He also possesses the ability of affecting the electromagnetic field directly around his person. He can affect the electric charge of persons he comes close enough to, or for stronger affects, touches. Contact can cause him to disrupt the electric charge or another's body by overcharging or absorbing theirs electrical charge. Thus causing them disorientation, and their muscles to tense or slow. Although this is not lethal without extreme amplification, it can even cause some to go unconscious.
Since becoming an X-man, Gavin has been inlaid with liquid metalic's that not only hyper conduct, but allow him to further control his powers. These works like a combination of veins and rods along his bones and in his muscles and skin, that positioned throughout his body correctly, allow him to more easily control and utilize his mutation. He has even gone as far as to have his tattoo's consist of metallic ink to control his discharge more easily when in public. He also has a ring on each hand, a wristband on his right, and a watch on his left hand (all appearing bulky, but not noticibly strange otherwise) that allow him to store large amounts of electricity for more extended usage of his mutation, which range from firing bolts of electricity from his palms to charging weapons both melee and ranged. In everyday life, his power is almost endlessly useful. Never has he experienced a dead phone or car battery.
WEAKNESS:Water being highly conductive, does not allow him to utilize electricity outside of his own body, and can even affect direct constant usage. This makes swimming and rain discomforting. More importantly, this makes a wet battle, a potentially easy death for Gavin. He also must constantly discharge his body, for too much electricity, can cause his body to overcharge. Which could end in the results of sped brain activity for far too long (which can lead to a brain fry that in turn could cause Gavin to turn insane temporarily if not for the rest of his existence), and taking in too much energy at once could potentially overcharge Gavin so fast, he could in very essence become pure electricity and cease to exist as a wholly sentient being (Theoretically, as there is no known way to measure the sentience of electrical currents or electromagnetic fields).
Alongside, he cannot affect things completely unconductive. Such as wool, rubber and latex. Although his amplifications and modifications help, some things just are not friends with electricity in the slightest. Wrap Gavin in rubber, and call him useless.
.
PERSONALITY Gavin is very lighthearted on the surface. But when it comes to those he cares for or a friend in a spot, he is the first to be there, no questions asked and every hand lent to help. He doesn't shrug from a fight, but is never the first to throw a punch. His mother taught him his manners and he uses them well. He isn't some punk on the street, regardless what his clothes lead someone to believe. Being an X-man doesn't mean as much to him as being on the side of something with meaning. He doesn't hold his loyalty to any faction as strongly as he does to his morals. While he doesn't always have the most "righteous" beliefs for extinguishing evil, he doesn't want there to be a fight, he wants there to be a peace and coexistence where he can find stability. None the less, he feels his abilities are his for a reason, higher or not, and he should put them to their potential, however small or large.
Through his two years at the institute he found every X-men a role model in some way or another. He enjoyed learning to control his power and train its' extents. Just being around them made him feel like he was going somewhere with his life as a mutant. Something he never felt before coming to the mansion. He never shrugged from an order and struggled hard to show his worth. It paid off when he was promoted to a full fledged X-man. Nothing could make him feel more proud to be a mutant.
Ultimately, Gavin is good friend anyone would want to have. He is there and does what he can, even if it's minimal. He simply enjoys impacting someone's life positively, wether that be a smile and a pat on the back, or a charged quarter propelled through the eye of the guy trying to snap you in half. He keeps his loyalties strong and doesn't make a single committment without knowing his consequences.
HISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE Gavin had never had a sad tell tale story. His father wasn't around, but he didn't mind, he had the greatest mother he could hope for. She taught him how to love others, and most importantly, himself. He would get down on himself for being a mutant, and she would inspire him, bring his own uniqueness to his eyes. Even through to this day, she is a constant inspiration to him.
Aside from that, Gavin had never loved anything as much as he loved being a part of music. He always went to festivals and shows, and even made his own music. It was something that made him feel connected to something beautiful. If not for his mutant abilities, he would pursue music as a career, but that just wasn't his course. So for years he had trained on his own from a young age. Learning just how to control his power. He never thought of actually using it, just learning how to live with it. But the institution showed him differently. It taught how to harness his latent abilities. Even to expand them. He advanced quickly. His powers grew and he learned, but that wasn't enough.
At age fifteen he was enrolled in Xavier's institute. Here he learned his true potential and advanced at a steady rate. He fit in as anyone else did. He felt completely normal here. And he enjoyed just being another guy here. It made him feel at home and comfortable. The continuation of his learning here is where he learned he could effectively expunge "lightning bolts", manipulate his natural speed and strength, and even affect other with his power.
Finally, at eighteen he graduated and joined the ranks of X-men. He finally felt he was making a difference. Different arrays of missions, both life threatening and not, displayed his many talents. He was doing his part, and that's all he could hope for. This continued on as he did everything he could to lend a helping hand, until April of 2009.
DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009) At the peak of Gavin's training the sudden calamity of Apocalypse put him to the test. While he gave his full support where he could, he didn't feel he was doing anything much to stop the catastrophe, only attempt to bandage what he could. Primarily lending a hand the famine in the Midwest of the US, he stressed continually, hoping for the order to join the fighting ranks and attempt to prove himself. Yet, he was needed where he was.
As Apocalypse continued to escalate, things calmed down. During those five days, he felt perhaps the issue was nearing it's end. But no sooner than comfort had came, the Eye of Horus appeared. Then not only for the world, but for Gavin himself, the moment of Apocalypse he would never forget happened. The EMP caused by the Eye affected Gavin so severely. He lost consciousness for the rest of the cataclysmic event, and a full time thereafter, only to awake with diminished control and power over his electrokenesis, that he felt he would never gain back.
He could no longer use his abilities as they once were. Charging and releasing electricity strained him heavily, and this was once second nature and of the upmost ease. Attempting to charge his muscles, for either speed or strength, would cause them to lock up for minutes at a time, and render him exhausted for much longer. What was once a bolts of lightning directed at a target was then a fizz and spark off his palms. He felt the very definition of disabled.
POST-APOCALYPSE The entirety of all that has passed since Apocalypse has held one goal for Gavin. The restoration of his former self. This has been and is still no easy task. He has progressed further than before in some ways, and lacked yet in others to this day. Full therapy, of every aspect both physical and mental, has still yet to give him the confidence that he has ragained his former control over his abilities.
Therapy has included overcharge of his electrical capabilities, discharge to minimal electrical necessity for himself, the constant repetition of charging his muscles for speed and strength until it was once again fully possible (This was often a fight between the medical staff, as for the longest times, it always ended him up on complete bedrest), focusing electrical charge outwardly to once again obtain nearly lightning lethal bolts, and lastly and more difficultly, straining to charge objects and persons other than himself (Which made test subjects far too scarce for the wary and the longest process).
Although he feels he has not become his former, for lack of a better word, glory, he does realize that only true usage and tests of himself, through battle, life experience, and time, are the only ways he can regain what he had lost. He strains himself every moment to become better than the last. Now, he goes to Utopia to put his finally re-capable self back on the market and in a suit.
SAMPLE RP POST: Gavin sighed and let his head firmly plop against the headrest. The past three years had been a struggle. Not in any sort of fancy way. He was never fighting for his life, or saving anyone from certain doom. All he was doing was growing. If inching closer to what he was once could be considered that. The attempts to reconstruct himself again sometimes brought him to the point of dismay. Three years felt like far too long to be away from any sort of orders aside from "Keep it up, you'll get there" or "Evaluation next week". This was the cumulation of all his therapy.
It's not as if it wasn't hard. It was most likely the most difficult time period in all his life. That is counting aside his incredible impatience that set him back more than twice. He looked at his watch. Everything was on schedule, but this almost seemed to fast for him. Even though this was his entire goal since Apocalypse's end, he was no where near calm. He was nervous. How many would look at him as the "cripple" who was trying to stay active? He physically shook the thoughts from his head. This is a family, they will be happy for me. A deep breath followed. He forced himself to think about the therapy. What it took for him to get here, and how strong that proved he was.
The memory flowed into his head:
He grabbed the battery, the incredibly large block of electricity, of his life juice, as he liked to call it. He pulled as much as he could handle from it. His fingertips raced with the static hum of pleasure and anticipation. He could do this with ease. But what happened next, was not exactly a stroll though the park. This was the test. He would push himself farther than ever before.
His muscles would have smiled the first instant if they could, directly before the instant they would begin to scream, if they had a voice. But Gavin heard them alright. He sprinted, surging every bit of charge into his muscles; no easy task since Apocalypse. He pushed himself. His former record was 152mph in one quick burst. He was closer than every time before. But his fate was the same as every other test. The pain rushed through every nerve he had. He lost it again, the current flew out of control, and he couldn't get it back. He locked up, and slid for a span he would never know. He lost touch with everything physical and felt on the verge of losing his mentality as well. His brain felt as if it were frying. He waited and collected himself. Struggling to keep his mind and vitals fine. He waited longer. The pain would slowly recess, but never relented as the stores of incredible power backfired. But he was far more stubborn than his very own mutation. But this was not every time before. His body seized and every muscles jolted. Every heartbeat sent bolts of pain through himself. His vision flickered and his head burned with agony. Just when he felt on the verge of losing consciousness, the pain subsided. He slowly attempted to remain still. To stop the flailing and jittering of his limbs. This too passed. Finally, he awkwardly rose, every muscles tensed and locked. His mouth filled with a bitter taste. Not only what he came to recognize physically, but he had failed again. Quickly before berating himself with insults and guilt, he calmy reminded himself that he pushed himself too far, and went back to the battery. This was by far the closest he had come to pushing himself to the brink. Once again, he charged his body. He would not relent.
He opened his eyes. Feeling a sense of pride at the fact that his brightest moment in recovery, came only seconds after his most horrendous. He had broken both his records in speed and strength. And for weeks after, repeated those results without a single "malfunction". He was at last ready to call himself an X-man once more.
As the Blackbird prepared for landing, he felt another rush of nervousness. He quickly took a moment to himself and released a surge into his wristband, which in actuallity was a fancy battery. He then pulled some back. His nerves tingled with a hum of joy. He repeated this until he felt the aircraft land. He felt ready. The onramp descended. He took every step forward and walked into the brisk air. He
was ready.
