Her style was very relaxed and urban. After spending a considerable amount of time homeless and on the streets, Lucia learned to take what she could get. Now her style is what she can afford.
UNIFORM: Click HerePOWERSGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Lucia’s mutation causes her to have a half feline physiology. The most obvious manifestation of this is her appearance. Dark reddish brown striped fur covers her whole body, with thicker tufts at her forearms and calves. She has a prehensile tail that is able to carry her own body weight, making it handy for climbing and balance. Instead of teeth and nails, Lucia has fangs and retractable claws capable of ripping through human flesh, wood, and some of weaker metals. Having the proportionate strength of a cat lends Lucia the ability to lift roughly one ton, but not for longer than it takes to lift it. Olympic gymnasts and sprinters are easily out stripped by Lucia, for her speed and agility are also enhanced.
Another facet of Thornn’s feline mutation is her acute senses. Lucia’s hearing is so acute she can listen to the heartbeats of those in her vicinity, she can see within the dark (for about a block down), and track scents for miles. Just like a cat, Lucia always seems to land on her feet. Her reaction time is half that of humans, granting her heighted wits and reflexes. Lucia’s muscles produce fewer toxins than humans, which grant her great stamina. Running and slashing at high speeds can be maintained for approximately an hour; a slower, steadier pace can take her throughout the day. Finally, Lucia has a low level healing factor that heals minor cuts and bruises in minutes, breaks and gashes can take three days pending on their severity.
WEAKNESS: All and all Thornn is still mortal. Her healing factor isn’t advanced enough to protect against mortal wounds, and deadly diseases. She can be shot, stabbed, beaten, and is susceptible to telepathic attacks. As a feral Thornn’s instincts can become a hindrance sometimes. She has to remind herself that she is ‘human’, less her animal side seize control.
PERSONALITYLucia’s most noticeable trait is her maternal nature. As the oldest child of a neglectful parents Lucia shouldered the responsibilities of a mother, which is something she has carried with her ever since. This coupled with her feline instincts can cause her to be overly protective of her loved ones. If she views you as a threat to her family she will lash out against you, and cut you until you are no longer a danger. She loves completely and will move mountains to make sure her family/friends are well off. On the flipside, Lucia hates completely as well. If you are within her circle it is extremely hard to get to the point of loathing, but once there…LOOK OUT!
It seems that Lucia’s toils are never rewarded, but she struggles through anyway. Being a surrogate mother to her siblings has given her a strong sense of responsibility. Work ethic, in her opinion, is what makes the future brighter, so she never shies away from getting her paws dirty. She works hard almost to a fault, because each time she chose laziness a part of her family has died. To Lucia the only thing that can make a person’s life run smoothly is productivity. Being idle causes gaps where the past, pain, and loss can ooze through. On the downside of this, it is hard for Lucia to let anyone take care of her. This is usually perceived as her being overly controlling. This quality in her could make for a great leader, but Lucia is too ‘’heartstrong’’ to lead; preferring a more supportive role in the family.
Despite her loving nature Lucia’s temper can sometimes get the better of her. She has a lot of unresolved issues in her past that she isn’t addressing, which sometimes manifest in angry explosions. She bottles up her thoughts and feeling and allows them to fester. Lucia has never been the type to stay collected even when angry, which results in her saying things she can’t always take back. Afterwards her guilt would eat her up (unless she hates you), which she in turn internalizes.
HISTORY Lucia was born in a rundown neighborhood in the South Bronx, to Mr. and Marcella Callasantos. She would be the oldest of four children. Mr. Callasantos, unfortunately, was a drug addict and a physical/emotional abuser. Shortly after the birth of Carolina, the youngest Callasantos child, Lucia’s father abandoned his family. Even though Mr. Callasantos beat her and her children, Marcella was beside herself over his absence. She blamed her children for his subsequent overdose and death, especially Carolina. After this, the role of ‘mother’ fell squarely on Lucia’s shoulders, effectively snuffing out what little childhood she had.
A few years passed when Lucia finally decided she needed a break. Raising three siblings and dealing with a neglectful mother was affecting her in the worse way, and she needed to get out of the house for awhile. She set her sister Maria on the task of watching the smaller Callasantos children, and went up the street to just be a teenager with friends for a change. Whilst outside Lucia heard a great commotion followed by a mangled scream emitting from her home. Rushing back to the house, she found the crumpled body of little Carolina dead on the bottom of the staircase. At the pinnacle of the steps stood Maria, smiling viciously at her little sister’s corpse. Though Lucia hadn’t any proof, it was obvious that Maria blamed the younger children for her father’s death just like her mother.
After Carolina’s death, Matteo’s would soon follow. Lucia was busy working her part-time shift at a grocery store when Maria took the young boy to the roof to show him her pigeons. Maria encouraged the boy to chase the birds as she released the birds from their coop. As Matteo ran around the roof, laughter and glee on his face, he slipped and fell to his demise. Upon hearing this devastating news, Lucia grew suspicious that this freak “accident” wasn’t an accident at all. She began wondering how long it would be before she also suffered a great fall.
Carolina and Matteo’s untimely deaths hung over Lucia for years to come. As the oldest child, it was her responsibility to look after her siblings…now two of them were dead and all because Lucia needed a little fresh air. Marcella, however, took this time to find a new drug addict to fall in love with named Harry Bellinger. This time, however, Marcella partook in the drugs herself and became addicted. She was too high to realize (not that she would’ve cared) that she’d married a pedophile who was abusing her daughters. After a particularly rough day Lucia decided she needed to get away, and left the house on a walk. Unbeknownst to her, Harry followed her with the intent to rape her. As he grabbed her from behind, Harry was slashed to death by Maria…who had fully mutated much faster than her older sister. In a state of shock Lucia helped her sister hide the body.
During the days to come Harry’s body was found, and although she had no proof, Marcella knew it was Maria who’d killed him. In an angry stupor Marcella took revenge on her daughter by murdering Maria’s beloved pigeons one by one. Lucia watched in horror as Feral, blinded by rage, murdered her own mother. Again Lucia was stunned. She stood there watching her mother’s corpse bleed out onto the ground, and decided to flee the scene. She lived on the streets for awhile, not wanting to be blamed for the crimes her sister committed, until she caught wind of mutants (for the shock of her mother’s death completed her mutation) who lived together in the NYC underground. She was stunned to find that her sister had been there the whole time and quickly gave Maria to the authorities. The two have never forgiven one another.
Lucia wasn’t one of the adults who were warped into being children again. While Callisto spent time at the mansion as a lollipop licking little girl, Thornn stayed behind with the other unaffected Morlocks, continuing life as usual. This turned out to be a good thing when a wall of water crashed through New York City. Thornn herself was almost flushed down the tunnels, but she conquered the waves refusing to let them take her. She fought with all of her might to reach as many Morlocks as she could, but the waters were too fast for her to help. In the end it took the X-Men and the Hellfire Club (whoever they were) to rescue her and some others. It wouldn’t be the last time the Morlocks were aided by the X-Men, and Thornn would never forget their heroics.
DURING APOCALYPSE: Thornn was part of the heated discussion as to whether the Morlocl should flee or fight. Ultimately she decided to take refuge at Xavier’s during War’s attack on NYC. Though she wanted to fight, she also sought to protect the others should all else fail. It was important to her for the smaller Morlocks to have a familiar face in their new environment. She cooperated fully with the Xavier’s staff.
SAMPLE RP POST:Lucia couldn’t believe her eyes. She stood rooted to the floor, blood splattered across her fur, as her heart began to throb inside her throat at immeasurable speeds. Lungs began heaving erratically as the burgeoning feral hyperventilated uncontrollably. At her feet, a pool of blood was slowly making its way across the uneven floor…her mother’s blood. Maria had finally managed to murder every single bit of family Lucia had. One by one they fell like dominos. Carolina and Matteo were killed before they could live. And it didn’t matter that her mother was a drug addicted neglector, she was still family. She now had nobody but her maniacal sister. She had nobody…she had nobody…
Seconds, or hours, later Lucia’s knees buckled and she fell to the floor in tiny splashes of blood. The dull ache in her knees didn’t even register as her eyes glazed over. Lucia’s immediate thought was to scrub, to scrub away the mess her life has become. Robotically, she rose from her knees and retrieved the mop and bleach.
Typical, she thought completely incoherent,
Maria leaves a mess and I have to clean it up. As she worked the mop in a circular pattern, watered down blood smearing across the floor, Lucia’s purple tinted nails were punched out by razor sharp claws. Her nails clattered to the floor, and she wouldn’t have noticed anything at all if she weren’t choking on a handful of teeth. Spluttering she spat out her human teeth, and accidentally cut her lip with her new fangs.
The metallic taste of her blood seemed to rouse something within Lucia. No, not the taste…the smell. The smell of the bleach, blood, and decaying corpse scorched through Lucia’s nasal passages. The horrid stench seemed to burn away the temporary fog she was living in. The mop clattered to the floor as she desperately searched for a mirror and when one was found, she recoiled. Her body was now completely covered in fur, and her eyes were bright yellow. Attached to her back was a long tail that seemingly moved on its own, instinctively balancing her out. Her body felt supple and stronger than ever, but Lucia wished she hadn’t gone to the mirror.
I am a monster…just like her and not a second after she thought this did it dawn on her.
“I’m going to get blamed for this...” she whispered aloud. Hearing the words spoken stirred her into action. Tampering with her mother’s body anymore would only point more evidence to herself, so she left the corpse were it lay while she grabbed some clothes out of her room. The only place she could go while looking like herself would be Mutant Town, and the money she had saved up from her part-time job wouldn’t be enough to last but two weeks at the most. Her first order of business would be to clean the dry blood from her face, then to find her little sister and to turn her in. After that she wouldn’t have to hide, and her life would finally be her own. Lucia left her old home in a hurry; she was only a blur of fur as she sprinted toward Mutant Town, and toward her life as a fugitive.
