Title: X-Corp and the Interns.

Lou - September 30, 2010 03:08 AM (GMT)
Wondering if anyone had an idea for a thread of the Xavier's interns for X-Corp. For awhile now Mittens has been volunteering/working at X-Corp but he hasn't done anything official in a thread besides the volunteering for the Halloween Party. Since the first time X-Corp visited the mansion (about a year ago?) there have been more students wishing to intern/volunteer/work at X-Corp. About time for a thread, huh?

So first, who are the interns? I know of Keren and Alyson. Kimmy (I believe) and Mittens have volunteered for them before.

Second, what does being an intern at X-Corp entitle? (That question is directed at Faye and Edmund)

Third, threading/plots, any ideas?

I did have a plot involving Keren, but it sounded boring even to me. Basically Keren has a wealthy contact in NYC (one of his father's old bosses/mentor) who he knows is sympathetic to the mutant ordeal (due to a mutant child of his own or something). After a University kicks a mutant out for whatever unjustified reason (something to do with money/red tap) Keren gets the idea of a scholarship for mutants. He goes to X-Corps with his idea and tags along on the mission to get his contact to back it.

That's all I got.

Well.. My Aly plot is probably going to give Alyson the idea of going to X-Corps to help mutants that were like her brother and mutants that are in emotional distress and have problems that involve the racism against mutants, etc, etc. Basically, I plan for it to make Alyson a lot more level headed and thought driven, so I was maybe thinking that she tags along with Mittens(Or Kimmy, if she is involved with X-Corps) when he goes to X-Corps, to see how everything works, and maybe decides to intern or something?

'Sall I got.

I think Dust volunteered too, but she hasn't been around...

First, we should specify what an intern is and what a volunteer is. An intern is someone who is working probably part-time for on-the-job training to get into the field of the chosen profession (in this case, social worker). A volunteer is going to be doing service work without pay. An intern would be more likely to be involved in the office/assistance department in X-Corps, as the cases and things X-Corps participates in and works are official business. Desk work, organizing, helping around the offices, etc.. Volunteers aren't going to be trained for specific things and would be working on their own time. Do depending on the amount of integration into the actual work of X-Corps you want your characters to get into, pick your poison. Your character's age would effect it as well (for instance, I don't think X-Corps will actually hire an intern under the age of 18 to do anything besides pushing pencils for legal reasons (yes, we pay attention to those).

Keren - X-Corps provides mutants with scholarships as it is. They aren't full rides, but it's something. Kicking a mutant out for unjustified reasons is also something you can sue over. Being a mutant isn't illegal and I doubt that mutants aren't allowed in said uni, so you can go that path if you want.

Alyson - X-Corps does provide counseling, but this would be done by professionals. You could volunteer for their counseling services, however, but you probably won't be involved in counseling sessions. I can assume our counseling services have at least one telepath involved in them, so you can get some on-the-side experience that way as well. You could work the desk, too, if you're old enough.

Honestly, the community center (basically the YMCA for Mutants) is your best bet for generic community service. As for anything significant I am not sure. I prefer not to play most of the job-based stuff if I can avoid it myself because all the threads for it have always caved somehow.

As noted in another thread:

QUOTE
'Transport is provided [bus on weekends]. And a room at the boarding house rented perhaps if someone has to work extremely late. Students only get to work weekends unless they don't have class part time (part timers probably only college students), under sixteen only get to volunteer for events.' - X-Corp, for a better future plotting thread.

There is a sub-board in Mutant Town. I don't see why any member of X-Corp couldn't choose to help out there if they so wish... "The Mutant Town Medical Center --- Co-run by X-Factor and X-Corps, the bottom floor of the halfway house donated to Mutant Town is being refurbished and set up as a medical center for the area. Mutant and Human Doctors are needed in this joint venture to improve the lives of all the genetically enhanced who otherwise would have nowhere to go not just in emergency situations, but for colds, vaccinations, etc."

And yeah we've talked about people using X-Corp to help them get their GEDs.. but for children of Mutant Town that don't/can't go to normal schools... why in the world can they not be home schooled? X-Corp could help facilitate that, give parents of young mutants pointers, but its not like people -have- to go to school to get their education.

So there's a few more options. Work at the medical center and/or home-school some younger mutants. Of course, you'll need to have good grades for this. There's also just generic hanging around threads to be had outside of the workplace, what about I do not know. I've done a number of them that have been pretty nice. I'm willing to work on something but my schedule is making it difficult to do a lot, so I can post, but slowly.

And, from waaaaaaay back in history, there was the idea of a Rescue Team. They would address disasters (like a USEFUL F.E.M.A.), kidnappings, etc.. This branches into most other factions. Mostly disasters, though.

Sorry, if this seems like a half-assed reply, but.... it is. Basically, Clarice's reasons for wanting to be a part of X-Corps is very similar to Alyson's reasons. From the start of when I first joined this site with her, I really wanted to get her involved with the mutant community; because she has heavy opinions of being for mutant rights and creating a safe a environment for them. Plus, members keep telling me that Clarice should join X-Corps, one way or another.

I know that she may be too young to have a prominent role. However, I would like her to do the 'dirty' work, proactive work. She wouldn't want to be sitting at a desk all the time. I have a vague idea of what I specifically want her to do at X-Corps, so anyone could throw me any ideas. I would appreciate it! Oh, I like that Rescue Team idea as well :]

There's always the possibility of breaking up fights between humans and mutants, mutants and mutants, etc.. I've done it before. Really if you can think it and it isn't going to involve much in the way of law-restrictions you can do it, I'd say. I think my view of X-Corps may differ from Faye's on some level. I see it more as a business rather than a faction. X-Corps just operates on a mutant level.

The Rescue Team is pretty much the biggest thing X-Corps would do. There was that time I may have accidentally started that space/time Star Gate thing and let some aliens into this dimension from the Negative Zone, but that's besides the point. I don't think we'll be coming by another one of those, so feel free to get creative. So long as it supports mutants, you should be good.

Faye - October 5, 2010 07:09 PM (GMT)
Its a mix of a faction and a business for moi. Faye's just obsessed so it leaks into pretty much everything for him. That's not necessary for everyone, he's just a workaholic and really intense about his goals. We don't have to RP the boring day to day stuff but anything involving X-Corp is fair game for RP fodder and we can set up fun things like rescues and such. I'm using them for getting the student heroes thing going, just to get them out there together at the right place and the right time.

Anyway! I'm going to be starting a thread, basically a thread with Faye going to Xaviers to answer questions about X-Corps for interested students [pretending they called interested, rather than them just sitting there hoping someone would be interested]. He and Ed have done this before, pretty basic, answer the questions here, meet and greet, and set up shit. One or two X-Corps peeps can join but if no one's up for it I'll set it up asap.

Clarice, Yantra, Alyson... yeah they could all be useful in different ways. Cool. This is technically seperate from X-Corps as 'merely' a charitable organization, but they could also get involved in mutant rights things if something comes up ^^ strictly voluntary basis for that.
