What does your character do when we aren't looking? There's a lot of time spent off-panel that we don't get to see. What are their hobbies? Interests? What kind of movies do they like? TV shows? How do they spend their time when they aren't saving the world or being involved in some cataclysmic battle. These should flesh out the lives of our characters IC, who they are and what makes them that.

Nightcrawler spends much of his time either relaxing (he sleeps between periods where he is not teaching), meditating, or proactive work. He has a habit of doing small things that require minimal effort and consistent action, such as building or working on the nondenominational chapel. He spent a lot of time in the chapel reworking and improving the quality of service it provides and commits himself to its service at any time he's not outside of the mansion or taking classes, or even sleeping. He has made a personal practice of candle-making, which can be found lit and melting in the chapel. He collects the wax and remakes the candles, recycling the materials. He lives a monkish-like life, keeping himself busy when he's not tired.

In addition to his work in the chapel, Kurt studies religion. While he is namely Catholic, he finds that other religions (particularly Buddhism) have attributes that he is very fond of, such as caring for all forms of life, even those that tread under foot. Kurt has memorized the Bible backwards and forwards and can be found humming countless hymns in both English and German as a form of meditation, reciting verses or mumblings proverbs to himself. He is also a practitioner of yoga, finding that it calms the mind and relieves stress from the body. There's a reason why he can touch his head with the back of his heel from behind while standing on one hand without any effort. Kurt also has a fancy for fishing, which is really just him sitting near a creek with a line with bait tied to his tail while he reads a magazine or book. He also enjoys baking and makes a mean Black Forest Cake.

Another form of meditation is acrobatics. As he was raised in a circus and is an accomplished trapeze artist and rope walker, Kurt maintains these abilities in the danger room and gym, recreating the very performances he used to do for his own pleasure and reminiscing.

Known for his dramatic flare, Kurt also reads up on a lot of plays, especially the ones for his drama class. His favorite books and movies are swashbucklers, his most favorite being He enjoys acting and will take it to the next level with Danger Room simulations of swashbuckling events and recreations of plays and stories, such as Sinbad or Pirates of the Carribean. Example: Pirating it up.

Top Favorites? The Three Musketeers, Pirates of the Carribean (trilogy), The Adventures of Robin Hood (it should be noted that Kurt's image inducer makes him look like a young Errol Flynn, who is his favorite actor), Captain Blood, The Count of Monte Cristo, Legend of Zorro, and The Princess Bride.

As hinted in some threads, Kurt is also somewhat of a deviant. He loves going out into the town (especially with friends, namely Logan) to drink and flirt with women. While premarital sex is against his religion, Kurt is not above spending a night away from home with a woman (mostly because he's drunk), as that too relieves stress from the body. This is only while he's drunk, because otherwise he's too self-conscious about his appearance. To be honest, it doesn't happen that often, because he looks like a normal guy and then when it's time for the clothes to come off, there's no hiding the tail or demon-ness.

Pranking is another passion for the dashing demon. I'm sure many of the students on the board have been subjected to a prank at one time or another. He is by no means vicious about it, but sometimes the pranks make a mess or results in the students getting in trouble. One thing that was actually mentioned in a thread with Wolverine was a few students who wrapped toilets in surran wrap. Turns out it was Kurt who suggested they do that.

Jack doesn't like to lay around fiddling with tv shows or video games, or any technology altogether that isn't a vehicle. He enjoys having something productive to do, preferably something requires hard labor or particular care. If something needs repairing, he's willing to try his hand at it. But his free time is generally occupied training or traversing the woods, his most comfortable environment. He goes out of his way to make himself familiar with the fauna and foliage and is careful about preserving the natural world as much as possible. Jack also loves to cook, which is quite handy considering his restricted diet, and he especially loves cooking for other people--that is if they don't mind their meat a little on the rare side.

Adding to his desire to be active, Jack loves his motorcycle, and loves riding it and taking care of it. It is the one possession he is protective of, and while he is generally amiable, he would not readily lend it out to anyone. He'll take his girlfriend out for a spin on it, but otherwise Jack keeps this treasure to himself. And speaking of his girlfriend, he takes evening runs with Rahne, an activity which he finds help tame his wolf side, getting out the extra energy and managing his anxieties, and he also supplements this activity with weight training.

Jack is easygoing, but he tends to be shy, knowing how others would react if they got to know both sides of him. With a little pushing to a public venue, however, he is known to liven up around close friends, and in that case he doesn't mind an outing or two, but Jack generally tends to keep in and keep to himself.

Believe it or not, Scott has an offpanel life. He doesn't just X-Man about all day. Besides the constant maintenance needed on the school, much of which he does himself because he is a bit fussy about how it is done, a shock, I know, he has a couple of hobbies that are probably a bit obvious.

Scott likes fast machines, fast cars especially those he can soup up, fast planes that he can fly on or off duty, and fast motorcycles which he seems to drive recklessly, but his innate understanding of spatial relationships makes it much less out of control than it appears. He doesn't play video games, since his limited color vision makes it difficult, though he has programmed a flight simulator in the Danger Room to have 250 different models of planes, including a few historical and even a fictional aircraft or two.

His taste in music and television tend towards a bit old fashioned. He enjoys jazz a great deal and has an extensive collection of it, most of it digital, but he has some very old and very expensive records that were given to him by his friends, especially Warren who thinks the music sounds like cats on the back fence, but indulges his friend. In case you thought it odd Ruby modeled himself on the gangsters of the '30s and 40s, Scott shares that love of Noir, especially because it is filmed in black and white which is understandably easier for him to see. Gangster films, cop dramas, and war films are his favorite, but he also likes documentary style shows like Wings of the Luftwaffe, and space travel. He is not one for sitcoms, or scripted modern drama, and he will only watch a romance if Jean forces him, usually closing his eyes behind his glasses and grabbing catnaps between telepathic pokes in the brain.

Scott is not much of a reader, though he has been known to enjoy a Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy book. He rarely has time to sit down and read, so he doesn't tend to start a book unless he can read it from start to finish in one sitting. Because it took him some time to recover his strength after the coma as a child, he read a lot back then, and still subconsciously associates reading with being ill.

He enjoys exercising, and will often go for long runs alone, sometimes carrying on telepathic dialogs with Jean during them, though usually she allows him some alone time. He also is a frequent user of the Danger Room, sparring with robotic and holographic opponents based on real threats like the Brotherhood, historical ones or complete fantasy. He has a secret file that perhaps only Jean knows about where he practices taking down the members of his team, having seen first hand the need to know everyone's weak spot. He does not consider this to be anything more than good sense, but does understand that not everyone might think that way, which is why he does not make the file public knowledge.

He is not a connoisseur of fine dining, and would exist on roast beef sandwiches and soda if left to his own devices. That's not to say he is a fussy eater though. He'll try most foods at least once, but at the end of the day, he likes meat and potatoes, and would probably forgo the vegetables altogether. When he drinks, he likes scotch, or brandy, without fruit juices or water. Ruby left him with a taste for more expensive scotch, but he doesn't partake enough for this to be an issue.

Having spent a lot of his childhood alone, he does tend to gravitate towards solitary pursuits, building airplane models or designing improvements for the X-equipment, but on occasion his friends and family can coax him to a movie night, or dinner out somewhere. Warren and Alex tend to have the best luck with that, but Jean, alone, has a one hundred percent accuracy record. She has even drug him to the opera and the ballet, with promises of a nature best not explored in polite company.

Jean is his most constant companion, for obvious reasons, without being clingy or over possessive, unless Emma is around, and then somehow, Jean usually manages to let her presence be felt. Their relationship is based on deep love, undying respect, and pure faith, and three years into it, their sex life, while not discussed or bragged about amongst the rather private pair, retains the passion and the energy of their honeymoon years. Scott is a perfectionist in this as well, and well, doesn't practice make perfect? He'd like to some day have children, his and Jean's, and never admitted it to himself how important having a family is to him. He doesn't entirely know how it will ever be possible, but he has faith that some day it will be.

His favorite holiday: Christmas, though it took many years for it to be so, since it was the last holiday his family had together.

Jay Guthrie:

Jay as many people know, is a musician, as such he likes to practice when he has the time, as well as writing down notes for new songs he writes himself. They're not always personal however, in fact he usually prefers to write things that aren't entirely inspired by personal things. He usually writes songs that are more uplifting or "make you want to rock out", heavily inspired by rock and metal bands from the 70's and 80's. Though it really isn't hard to catch him listening to all sorts of music, including Kimmy Parker's songs.

Music is also how he gets money. Ever since the little fiasco at the Zebra Club, and some of the compliments he's gotten on his playing since then, Jay's gotten over the self confidence issues about being a one man band and has been playing clubs, bars, and more or less anywhere he can get a place to play for some cash. He sends about half of it home to help his mom out, and keeps the other half for personal expenses (a lot of which were presents for his friends and teachers he likes).

Jay is also attending college via the internet, since he does not currently think he'd do well at an actual college, and his mother and some teachers are worried about his future. Mostly since he was a little kid he always put his future career choice as "Rock star".

Many people already know that Jay likes to remain a pacifist about things, and dislikes using violance as an answer. Despite this, he has been getting private lessons with Warren Worthington with a variety of things from power usages, flight maneuvers, swordplay, and extra training to go along with Logan's classes (which Jay used to try and avoid or despise when he was younger).

It is even more odd that Jay has actually gone hunting on several occasions, and is a decent shot with a hunting rifle back in Kentucky when he and his brothers would go on hunting trips. It's probably one of the few sports he actually participates in. He likes to watch football, but never played. In fact he doesn't mind watching a lot of different sports, just not much of a participant in them.

Jay puts his family first, friends second, his faith third, and himself fourth in terms of what is important to him on a grander scale. Nothing, above nothing, is more important to this Guthrie than his family, despite the few dysfunctions he thinks they have, he'd never want to see them turned against each other in anyway. His greatest fear is losing another family member, which is part of the reason he has some issues with Sam and Paige, but I like to think that since he's come back to the mansion (the start of my play with him), he's slowly been getting over those issues. Friends are almost as important as family, and Jay likes to think that he does almost anything he can to cheer up a friend who's in a bad mood. But at the same time he's not always that social about things, with him being rather quiet and reserved about various things. But it is not below him to try and act as a peer counselor when needed, he's perfectly fine just being there for someone just to show support.

Jay's a baptist, while he is not as devout to religion as he once was, he still attends church every Sunday morning unless he is held up with something important. (You'll be able to see more once I get something up in the Faith thread).

Despite having a set of wings, a voice that can imitate other voices, and living at a school filled with people with a variety of appearances and powers. Jay is kind of like an ordinary young adult, fresh out of being a teenager with the world ahead of him. He faces the same problem that many people do around his age with where they are going with life, what they want to do with their future, all of that. He's spending a lot of time trying to find his way with that.

Being raised on a farm brought many things to the table that suburban and cityfolk never experience. But one common thing is that Jay has had a pet, or multiple pets including the farm animals. The only one he ever really considered his own was a particularly ugly stray dog that he took in, he named it Rascal. Jay had the dog for 3 years before it got hit by a truck after wandering out of the Guthrie property. Jay swore it was the Cabot's who hit his dog.

Despite all that niceness that the red headed angel boy has in him, he still is haunted by guilt over what happened three years ago involving his first love, Julia Cabot. Those feelings of guilt have turned into feelings of revenge, which leads to Jay always wondering and watching for anyone who had a power suit similar to the one that the Cabot.

One final unknown fact by everyone except Jay, is the fact that he did plan on proposing to Julia within the month before she died. He has never told anyone about it. His plan was that if his family didn't accept Julia as a future Guthrie, then he'd leave the Guthrie household the same way that Sam and Paige did. Even angels are a little naughty.

His favorite color: Red.

His favorite season: Spring (after it warms up just enough), and Fall (just before it gets too cold). He likes moderate temperatures with a little bit of a breeze.
His favorite holiday: Christmas.

His favorite room in the Mansion: The Roof. One of the best views, in his opinion.

What does Dontae King do off panel? Truth is he does a lot of stuff, and while some parts of his routine he's had to part with, he manages fairly well. Back home before things started to take a turn for the worst, he used to be a sports phenom. He put his heart and soul into football and basketball, and his hard work payed off. Of course once he dropped out his academic sports career was effectively ended; that didn't, and still hasn't stopped him though. He remembers the grueling training exercises his coaches used to put him through, and he still does them when he gets a chance; as well as playing pickup games wherever he can find them. Needless to say, the skills have proven invaluable in his...active life.

He also likes to spend time in the gym, as working out doesn't just keep his body strong, it gives his mind the chance to just shut off while he's focusing on lifting or reps. From a young age, Dontae has always been interested in cars, computers, and the like thanks to his father often bringing work home with him. He basically learned how to fix just about anything that he could get his hands on, and that included toasters, CPU mainframes, drive shafts, etc.... He still knows his way around a computer and system commands that more than a few people won't see, but his real passion is vehicles and fixing appliances. Cars are his passion, but he fixes stuff within his capabilities to fix because his dad told him a long time ago that if he can help, help.

A lot of the time he's not eating, or working out, he's tuning his or someone elses car; and when he's not doing that, he's playing video games or writing lyrics. Yes, writing lyrics; he grew up in a place and time where everyone wanted to get out the hood by being a rapper. Well he's got the chops, and the lyricism, but his situation made sure he never had a chance to do anything or go anywhere with it. Nowadays he's either jotting down verses on his iPhone or a notepad when he gets the inspiration; and while he might do a small open mic here and there, or let his friends hear his stuff, the big contract isn't the real route he feels he needs to go.

Havok, like his brother, likes fast cars and motorcycles, but he is not really very keen on flying. Falling out of the sky before you've started kindergarten can do that to a guy. He had a fear of it for a long time but he's worked that out, quite a bit. Eventually after alternately saving/trying to destroy the world, things like a little turbulence start to become fairly mundane.

Alex was a jock as a kid, not that he wanted to be. His adopted father tried pushing him into football, which was the sport of the lost son the Blanding family took him in to replace. He was a failure in that, having been a very small kid, but it turned out that he was pretty fast, so by college, he had gotten a track scholarship, and ran on the college team, making captain by his senior year. Joining the Sigma Nu fraternity, he was a social butterfly, which he continues to be, talking to everyone and maintaining an open and friendly persona, for the most part.

His secret (or not so secret) love is geophysics and geology, a passion he shares with Lorna, his fiancee. Before his mutation he was planning on going into geophysical science, particularly studying the effects of cosmic radiation on geologic features. He still has a rock collection displayed on his wall, and has plans on returning to the Savage Land at some point to really study the geology there out of a purely curious interest.

Unlike his brother, Alex's tastes in music are more current. He'll listen to anything as long as it is loud and a little angry. He has a secret love for musicals, West Side Story being his favorite because in high school he had a crush on the girl who played Maria in the school production of it. He likes Stephen King books, and horror movies, and after his experiences as a Horseman, he discovered to having developed a taste for war films, though he finds himself analyzing the tactics within them and sort of enjoys figuring out a way for the film's losing side to turn the tide of battle. He hasn't mentioned this to anyone, sort of afraid about what it says about him.

Alex will eat anything you put in front of him, to excess if it's available. His mutation literally burns calories so he doesn't worry about gaining weight, and honestly, he has little self control when he finds something he likes. He has a tendency to go overboard, a bit of an addictive personality, as his drinking problem attests to. He's been sober approaching 18 months now, and he attends AA meetings at least twice a week if he's not off saving the world.

Family is important to Alex, and though his relationship with his perfect older brother can be complicated, there is nothing he wouldn't do for Scott and Jean. She hated him for a long time after the events in Connecticut, but he earned his way into her good graces, and on occasion he will seek out her advice, particularly when it comes to figuring things out with Lorna.

Lorna. Ah, well, there is Alex's favorite thing of all time. She's not the type of girl he dated in high school and in college. They were cookie cutter blondes as deep as a wading pool. Naw, Lorna is so much more than that. Being near her, his powers react to the magnetic energies that flow through her and his heart beats a little faster. She is beautiful, smart, and his life line. Their relationship isn't the epic affair of Scott and Jean's, it is something so much more tumultuous and if it is a storm tossed sea, they will cling together and keep afloat somehow.
