PHYSICAL APPEARANCEHEIGHT: 6’3
BUILD: Well proportioned, lean, muscular with broad shoulders
EYES: Blue
HAIR: Dark blonde, longish
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: White feathered wings protruding from his shoulder blades
CLOTHING STYLE: Warren usually wears a harness underneath his clothing to keep his wings tightly bound to his body. When working, he opts for impeccably tailored suits, usually black or navy, occasional with pinstripes, and a shirt and tie. Outside of work, his clothing is less obviously expensive and he opts for more casual clothes, shirts and jeans, often adapted to allow his wings freedom if he is around the Mansion. Whenever he teaches, he dresses in suit trousers and an open necked shirt
UNIFORM: Simple black leather, with Kevlar covering his body entirely apart from his face, with thick soled boots that reach mid-calf. The uniform has openings in the back to free his wings.
POWERSGENERAL DESCRIPTION: - Wings: Warren’s primary mutation is a physical one; white feathered wings with a 16 foot wing span that allow him to fly. There skeletal structure is flexible enough to allow him to bind them tightly against his back and legs. While he normally flies at roughly 70mph, he is able to reach speeds of 150 mph to heights of 10,000 feet and can carry an additional 200 pounds. Previously he has reached 29000 feet, but that was with great strain and he could only remain that high for a few minutes. Warren can fly for around half a day on his own power. Flight for Warren is completely natural, and he has been extensively trained, especially with flying indoors and so is extremely agile and fast in the air.
- Flight Adaptations: As an extension of Warren’s physical mutation, his entire body is adapted for flight. His bones are hollow meaning he weighs much less than a man his build. In addition he stores no excess fat, has an higher proportion of musculature and the tissues in his body have increased durability meaning he can endure impacts that would kill or severely injure a normal person. His eyes are adapted to withstand high speed winds that would damage the normal human eye and his lungs are able to extract oxygen at high altitudes and speeds, and deal with low temperatures.
- Regenerative Ability: A secondary mutation Warren has recently developed is a healing factor that runs in his blood and allows his body to regenerate. He is able to transfer his blood to other individuals with the same blood type and heal their injuries.
Notes: Warren is a skilled combatant, especially with hand to hand and sword fighting. He often carries two blades with him.
WEAKNESS: Warren while strong and possessing a healing factor is not invincible or immortal; he can still be injured or killed by physical means or another mutants powers. He is as vulnerable to psychic attacks as any other mutant.
PERSONALITYOften dismissed as an arrogant, rich playboy, Warren is in fact an extremely intelligent, quick witted and sensitive man. He is generally quite light hearted and good natured, joking around with almost anyone and able to take what he dishes out. He is an unashamed flirt and definitely likes female attention.
Underneath this laid back exterior is a man looking for acceptance, a place to belong and be loved. His childhood was not a particularly loving one and it left Warren wary and unsure of deep personal involvement. He is a private person and not an overly trusting but is a generally well adjusted man and an extremely loyal friend and confidant.
HISTORYBorn to Katherine and Warren Worthington Jr in Centrepoint, New York Warren was a privileged child, mischievous and intelligent with everything provided for him. This all changed while he was attending a private boarding school at the age of eleven when he began to rapidly lose weight and dark bruising began to form on his back. Underneath the bruises, two lumps began to form over his shoulder blades. These slowly turned into wings, terrifying and confusing the young boy, so he hid them under his clothing but it wasn't long until Warren learned he could use his wings to help people. One night there was a fire in his boarding school dormitories, and Warren disguised himself to save them.
Some of his dorm mates discovered it was him though, something which didn't go down well. One night, Warren was beaten up badly and was in a coma for some time. When he woke, he found his father had paid his doctors to remove Warren’s wings while he was in surgery. Confused by conflicting feelings towards the loss of his wings, Warren was soon allowed home, finding that he had been removed completely from the boarding school.
Over the next yeah, as he got better, Warren once again began to manifest growths on his shoulder blades, his wings simply re-growing themselves. This was the first manifestation of his healing factor though he didn't understand it at the time. Finding he was more over-joyed by the return of his mutation than upset, Warren took to the skies in a costume and mask, acting as a ‘guardian angel’. It was during this time that he was contacted by one Professor Charles Xavier, recognising the young teenager as a mutant.
Warren came to the Mansion, as one of the original mutants Xavier took in, the second after Scott Summers, though they were quickly joined by Jean Grey, Hank McCoy, Mina and Jonathan Harker. He learnt to use his powers more effectively, testing his limits as well as completing his studies.
For a while, during his early twenties, he returned to live in New York though still an active member of the X-Men. He once again took on the mantle of the ‘avenging angel’, sneaking out to fight crime as well as seeing his girlfriend Candy Southern. During his time fighting crime, Warren gained a few enemies, one of whom learned of Candy’s existence and brutally murdered her in front of Warren. He eventually avenged her, marking the first [and what he hoped as the last] time he took a human life. Professor Xavier convinced Warren not to turn himself into the police over the murder.
It was just after this that Warren returned to the Mansion once again, mourning the loss of his love but allowing his friends at the Mansion to help him heal. For roughly six months he stayed at the Mansion before his father was shot and killed at which point Warren moved back to New York, to reluctantly take his place as CEO of Worthington Industries. Only three weeks after her husband's murder, Katherine Worthington fell ill, and died less than a day. A post mortem revealed she had been poisoned but as with his father, no one was ever charged with the murder.
Warren struggled with the grief of losing his parents and the guilt that he wasn’t able to protect them. To add to his troubles, his close friend Jonathon Harker was diagnosed with cancer and died later that year in Italy. Warren spent less time at the Mansion, though still occasionally joined up with the X-Men when he was needed, concentrating instead on running his business. After the the Professor’s death, another painful blow, Warren worked to re-establish the balance in his life, of his business and his position at the Mansion, despite the devastation of losing his mentor and close friend
Recently, he returned in a more permanent position at the Mansion, as a teacher and second in command of the X-Men.
SAMPLE RP POST:Warren settled back on the desk at the front of the class room, perching on the edge, his wings free from the harness but folded neatly behind him. The sound of scratching pens was the only one that filled the room as the class finished the small test he had compiled for them for the end of the lesson. He could see a few of them were starting to get restless, looking at the clock, out the window, around the room, trying to catch a friend’s eye. Warren hid a smile. He remembered that feeling well.
Clearing his throat, he caught the attention of one of the boys who was attempting to nudge a classmate under the table. Warren raised an eyebrow and then looked pointedly at the boy’s desk. With a mutinous look, he went back to his work, and Warren again fought the growing urge to smile. Crossing his arms, he stood up and walked to the window, watching the clouds being blown across the sky by strong winds, sunlight and shade rolling across the landscape outside. He wanted to be out there, amid the clouds. His powerful wings responded to these thoughts, opening out a little with a rustle of feathers and Warren glanced down at his watch.
“Okay. Pens down, kids.” He said as he turned back from the window, this time grinning openly at the sighs of relief. It was the last class on a Friday after all, no doubt they were all planning what they were about to do once they escaped the confines of the classroom.
“Pass you papers to the left and then towards the front. Your
left, Clive. Left. The hand you don’t write in. Thank you.” he called over the sound of packing up and chatter that was slowly beginning to gain momentum. He collected the papers at the front of the room and slipped them into his brief case for marking later on.
“Right.” he paused waiting for silence to fall, which it did quickly. His class had a respect for him that was garnered neither by tyranny or trying to be the students ‘friend’.
“There’s no homework for the weekend. So enjoy yourselves because we’re starting essay’s next week.” he informed them. pausing again before finally dismissing them. “Go on then, everybody out.” Warren finished, assuming his seat on the side of the desk as his students left, a few of the girls taking a slightly longer route so they could pass his desk at the front, smiling and blushing as they traded ‘goodbyes’.
Once the last student had closed the door behind them, Warren gave an amused shake of his head and stood up. Grabbing his keys, he also left the room, locking it after himself and headed for a door. Once outside he wasted no time in fully spreading his wings and with a few powerful sweeps, propelled himself into the air. Finding his natural rhythm easily, he moved higher and higher, revelling in the feeling of the cool wind racing over his wings and around his body. Nothing beat this…absolutely nothing.
