Kelrian’s power is regeneration, although as an offshoot of that he generates quite a lot of energy to feed his healing. His body produces more than that power actually needs on a regular basis, because its stuck on panic mode from the amount of times he's lost limbs and nearly died since he was seventeen. Basically his body/ powers thinks he's dying or about to die or be injured at any moment and is prepared to prevent that.
Regeneration: the ability to recreate lost or damaged tissues, organs and limbs. Slight wounds and scratches heal quickly, within moments of the injury. Serious wounds take longer to heal fully, though they are quickly stabilized. Many injuries heal within moments, while serious ones might take hours, while lost limbs might take days to weeks or even months depending on the mass available.
The regeneration is spontaneous and automatic, and he can’t control when it happens. It is fueled by overflow energy. There side effects, minor and major, negative and positive.
His hair and nails grow quickly if he has excess energy. His body is constantly regenerating, healing/ repairing every cell in his body. Whether or not he is actually injured everything is renewed on a regular basis. He hasn’t aged much past few years, though it seems he's not quite done aging yet. Until recently he was unable to gain weight or muscle mass. He thought his body was done growing/ changing, but it turned out that he couldn't gain muscle mass because he wasn't eating enough. He needs more than the average human to replace the mass his regeneration uses. How much is necessary for a healthy weight/ to gain muscle mass hasn't quite been figured out for all circumstances but he's made some progress.
Its been proven that each time he's badly injured, the injury heals faster than the last time he'd taken that injury. The first time he'd lost a hand it took months to recover. The second time, a few weeks. The third, less than a week, and that time he'd not only lost his hand but his entire arm had been mangled and crushed. WEAKNESS:
He’s not immune to psychic attacks in any way, and he can be incapacitated for short periods of time with physical attacks. Also, training not withstanding, he’s as breakable as any human. His durability is that of an average human. Even though he does heal, its easy enough to hurt him. His speed, strength, and senses are only that of the average human. He's trained in fighting but he doesn't have any offensive powers.
If he goes through prolonged injury, like ongoing torture or such, his regen powers will eventually get to the point that they’re only keeping him alive, holding him together, not actually healing his injuries… though once it stops, he’ll go into a deep sleep, and recover at a rapid pace. Depending on the severity of his injuries, his body will make use of 'unnecessary' tissue for the mass to replace his vital organs. This includes fatty tissue, muscle mass, less vital organs, among other things. If he doesn't eat enough to replace the mass needed for regeneration, his powers will use what resources his body has. PERSONALITY
Naturally Kel's a cheerful, friendly young man, outgoing, enthusiastic, energetic. Not all the time, but when things are good, when he's with the people he cares about and the world isn't falling down around his ears, and he's not dwelling on the darker aspects of humanity, he returns to this side of himself. It doesn't see the light of day nearly as often as it did when he was younger, but its coming out again.
Most often, he's reserved and polite, but distant. Not to everyone, but to most people. If they're not someone he knows well and trusts (and trust might take a while to earn), they'll probably see this side of him. A calm, thoughtful, but restrained young man, not really outspoken but will speak his mind if he feels he should. He might offer a few words here and there, but he's more apt to listen to others.
Like many mutants that have reached adulthood, he's lived through turbulent times. For most of it he's just survived rather than thriving as some have. He's looked up to the X-Men since he was fifteen, but as a student he was too silly and clumsy to really participate. He hasn't really gotten over that self-image despite having outgrown it years ago.
He might have a chance at being the sort of person he wants to be, but he can't see it yet. He's struggling to find out who he is, where he's going with life, and what kind of difference he can make. That's important to him, making some kind of difference. Whether its major or smaller scale, he wants to make things better. HISTORYHISTORY: PRE-APOCALYPSE
Kel's early childhood was complicated. His mother was a mutant, his father a human. His mother disappeared when he was a toddler, and his father married the babysitter soon after. He has two sisters who share his mother, and a third from his step-mother. He didn’t remember his mother much, if at all. Most of what he knew was what his older sister Mara told him and his little sister Luce. Luce was a trouble maker from the start, and Kel was her favorite person. Mara was the only one of the three that remembered their mother beyond her blue eyes and comforting presence, and often told her younger siblings about her when they were upset.
Marc got over his wife’s disappearance quickly enough; almost disturbingly so. Slightly before Kel turned four, his father fell in love with the babysitter Jannet, married her, and got her pregnant. Not necessarily in that order. Less than a year later, Jen was born.
With his father pretty much obsessed with his wife, new little girl, and work, in that order, there wasn’t much time or attention left over for Kel and his other sisters. He was crazy about his previous wife, and fussed over his children. After he remarried to Jannet, it was as if they didn’t exist, like their mother had never existed. Maybe they were just a painful reminder… maybe. In any case, Mara, Kel, and Luce were very close to each other, but pretty distant with the rest of the family. Still, having a pair of loving siblings wasn’t really enough. They weren’t really neglected, but they certainly did not get enough attention. Minor details were overlooked. Like hair cuts. With Kel's delicate appearance as a child and longish hair, he stood out in school.
By the time Kel was ten, he had learned how to cook; his step mother did cook for them all, but it was pretty horrific. Also, he spent as much time as possible outdoors. He loved nature and played games of the imagination like children tend to do. Whilst Mara spent much of her time indoors reading, Luce liked to follow her big brother around. She got the both of them into much more trouble than he would've gotten into on his own, and he got the blame more often than not. He didn't mind, really, she never meant it to be that way.
Still, he preferred to play alone, climbing trees and rocks and sheds and pretty much anything he could find. He often came home bruised and scratched, and sometimes with broken bones, so he was kept a sharp eye on most of the time. At age eleven, his stepmother decided to give him a haircut. In the morning, he woke to find that it had grown back. Soon after, when he fell out of a tree, he got hurt pretty badly but it healed.. and so did just about everything since then.
He was kinda confused and freaked out, so he didn't really say anything about it to his family. Kel managed to keep it secret, mostly, until he ended up getting badly injured. He just wouldn't wake up. It scared his father quite a bit; his delicate son was a mutant like his mother. The possibility that his daughters might also have latent powers was a constant worry. After what had happened to his wife, who wouldn't fear that their children would suffer the same fate for the same reason? For the first time, he began fussing over his son a bit, paying more attention to his other children.
By the time he was fifteen, his step-mother managed to convince his father that it'd be better if Kel went away to school. Kel was transferred to Xavier's in his sophmore year of high school. They didn't realize it was a school for mutants, anymore than they realized that the headmaster was a telepath. Xavier must have realized more than he let on. The depths of Jannet's hatred for mutants and her jealousy had to have been obvious, at least. Kel hadn't been at the school long before the headmaster vanished, however.
When Kel was seventeen, at the end of the summer, he had found out that his mother had been murdered, but instead of being investigated it was shelved because she was a mutant. There had been enough information to lead the impulsive teenager into going after the killers himself. Without really planning or thinking things through, he confronted them. Stupid idea. He was tortured until the floor was drenched with blood and his regen powers began to fail him. He was barely conscious when someone attempted to rescue him. The first attempt had failed, by a small and inexperienced vigilante group, and a friend from school managed to find them. It only made matters much worse, since they were all certain they would die there. When all hope seemed to fade, it was the x-men to the rescue. Cyclops giving orders, everyone made it out alive and mostly in one piece. Well… as many pieces as there were as when they had come to rescue Kel and his friend. One of his hands had been hacked off while they had been testing the limits of his powers.
It had been several months of dazed pain and confusion after he began to heal properly. And when his powers kicked back into gear, he quickly recovered. It took a few more months for his hand to completely regenerate, much to his surprise. He hadn’t know that he could regenerate limbs. Not something he had intended testing out.
His sister, Mara, died soon after… leaving her inheritance from their mother to him, as the second oldest. His father and step mother argued with lawyers about it for long time, wanting the money for themselves. Luckily for him, his sister's lawyer took care of matters, and he kept his inheritance. Unlike others who have lavish amounts of cash on hand, he does not make a big deal about it.
The summer after, the school was taken over by a force called ShadowX. Kelrian was influenced by it, but not entirely taken. He wasn't a threat, he wasn't useful, and it wasn't necessary. He was in a fog of self-pity and didn't give a damn about what was going on around him. He missed the battle entirely- someone knocked him out to keep him out of it. He finished his high school career a bit late, thanks to the disruptions, and left for college for a few months. He really enjoyed it there, and was doing well, until the Apocalypse. DURING APOCALYPSE (April 7th through April 12th, 2009)
Kel left school and returned to Xaviers after the initial attacks. It wasn't like they were having classes since most of the professors had run off to be with their families if they could. He wanted home, and this was the only home he could come back to. His other home had been closer, but he already knew that going back there would have been a mistake. He wasn't allowed anywhere near his siblings, after all. Wouldn't want it to get out that he was a mutant. As if that mattered, when the world was falling apart and people were dying.
He left with second to last evac group from the mansion. He'd wanted to be the last, but it turned out it was a good thing that he was in that group. The storm - the hurricane that hit NYC - caused them to emergency land on a fueling station. When the EMP swept out to wipe out the nanites, it also cut out the power on the fueling station. Mid-air. Everyone struggled to keep it aloft, while a handful were set tasks to restart the power, and Kel... well, he had to get into the machinery to pull a switch which was easier said than done. It stuck, and then he couldn't pull his arm out in time, so he lost it as the machinery started up. The efforts of everyone involved kept the fueling station aloft, however, and after they continued on to Graymalkin. POST-APOCALYPSE SAMPLE RP POST:
Kelrian had a little problem, though it certainly wasn't an ability malfunction. If it was, he'd be plastered to the pavement. Which would really really suck. Since he never really slept, he'd just been waiting for it to be a reasonable time to leave the mansion without ruffling some feathers. Er. Agitating people, that is. So, as soon as it was daylight, he'd grabbed something to eat and went off for his morning run. Just the usual, you know? Only, this time it wasn't.
He hadn't gotten very far from the mansion before there was an accident. And this time it hadn't been his fault. Really, it wasn't. He'd just been in the wrong place at the right time. He was good at that; his luck just sucked. This one car went off into the wrong lane, another swerved to avoid it, and it just happened that he was where it swerved to... yeah, it was NOT fun. Some people had gotten hurt, him included. By the time the ambulance got there, however, he was perfectly fine and he had gotten everyone away from the vehicles which were so much twisted junk.
He'd stayed with them until the ambulance came and took the people away, and quietly slipped away. The others had been convinced that they missed him, but he didn't want to be taken to the hospital for a check up or whatever. He'd spent enough time in the hospital as a child and he was not spending another minute in one if he could avoid it. And he was about half way back to the school when he got the call. It was then he began running again. He was going to be late, and he was a complete wreck.
The regen rapidly hit the code for the gates and pelted across the grounds. What time was it?! He was barely out of breath by the time he got to his room and pulled his uniform on - with a brief thought as to where his roommate was - and washed away all splatterings of blood and dirt he could find. He didn't look like he was in an accident. He hoped. With a shake of his head, he glanced at the clock. There was still some time. He downed a V8, and hoped that it'd be enough to make up what his body had went through. Really, he needed to carry around vitamins and such with him when he went out running. Not that he expected that kind of shit to happen regularly.
There were quite a few people from his team already there when he arrived at the danger room. He smiled at everyone, and wondered what the dancing was about. It looked like fun, but that wasn't why they'd been called here was it? They weren't having dancing lessons, because if they were he'd run the other way. Immediately. He ran a hand through his hair, and sighed. This was shaping up to be an.... interesting.... morning.
