POWERSGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Sunfire can biochemically ionize matter (usually air molecules) and convert it into superheated plasma of up to 1,000,000 degrees farenheit, most often released as force blasts from his hands, but can also manifest as sudden remote combustion, low-level heating of solids and liquids, and a sudden "cooking" effect not unlike a microwave oven (this is an ability he rarely uses offensively, since it can cause permanent damage or even death).
Furthermore, he can generate superheated air currents which hold him aloft and allow him flight at speeds of up to sixty miles per hour.
To power his ability, Sunfire's body absorbs solar and electromagnetic energy. He is able to detect sources of heat psionically, and has a subconscious shield about his person which serves to protect his body from not only his own powers, but outside sources of heat as well.
WEAKNESS: Sunfire's primary weakness lies within his haughty nature. He tends to be incredibly arrogant and overconfident, and this has at times led to setbacks or even defeats due to underestimating his foes or overestimating his own capabilities.
His powers have a tendency to work less effectively during the night time, due to there being less solar radiation present for his body to absorb. He can still generate the same temperatures, but can sustain them for lesser periods.
PERSONALITY Shiro Yoshida is infamously difficult to work with. He is haughty, arrogant, and often times downright rude. His temperament can be at times compared to his powers, as he has a very "short fuse", and can be set off quite easily. His respect is very rarely given out, but once it has been earned, one sees a slightly different temperament to the man. Not exactly pleasant, but... less critical.
Despite his unpleasant personality, Sunfire has a very strong sense of honor, and of right and wrong, and holds himself to an immensely high standard. He also holds others to that standard, and is not afraid of informing people when they have fallen short. His unnerring dedication to justice and the destruction of evil consumes much of his time, even though it has made him an international celebrity of sorts. The spotlight though, is something that makes him uncomfortable, and he tends to shy away from publicity if at all possible.
HISTORY It is theorized that Shiro's powers originate from Hiroshima, where his grandparents and mother (as a young child) lived during World War II. His mother died during childbirth, leaving his father Saburo of the Clan Yashida, to raise him. Despite his family connections, Saburo pursued a career as a diplomat, eventually rising up the ranks to become Japan's ambassador to the UN. This left Shiro in the hands of his radical uncle Tomo, who eventually sought to use the boy's burgeoning powers as a weapon to gain control of the Yashida Clan's underworld connections.
For a while, Shiro was manipulated by the man, who twisted the boy's moral compass into eliminating his foes. Raw and untrained, Shiro's powers initially manifested in explosions of heat which tended to do more damage than Tomo would have liked, but it was acceptable. Under the impression that he was a hero and was cleaning the streets of his hometown of criminals, Shiro continued in this way until he accidentally killed some innocent bystanders.
Distraught, Shiro sought to turn himself in to the authorities. Tomo assured him that it would all be swept under the proverbial rug, and that nobody would know of what he had done. Shiro's only response was "I would," and he proceeded to turn himself in to the authorities.
Shiro being one of the first mutants in Japanese government custody, they saw the opportunity to train the young man to be of service to the nation as a whole, and began training him in the use of his powers. He was a quick study, being wholly dedicated to bettering himself and compensating for what he had done under his uncle's influence. Before too long, he had managed to control his heat into focused bursts, and had learned to use his abilities in creative ways, such as forging steel, halting forest fires, and protecting people and their property from volcanic eruptions. They made him a costume and gave him a codename: Sunfire, and set him up as Japan's protector, a role he took with pride and dedication.
He has spent time as part of numerous groups, including for a very short time as a member of the X-Men. His stay with the team lasted for one single mission, as they were attempting to break up a crime ring in the states run by his own cousin Kenuichio Harada, AKA the Silver Samurai. After the Samurai was defeated and the crime ring disrupted, Shiro considered his work with the team finished and returned to Japan. He has kept sporadic contact with the school over the years, making it known that were his assistance necessary, he would offer it, but not to bother him with more trifling matters. He did not, however, define what those trifling matters were.
Due to his family name and status as Japan's national hero, Sunfire was inducted into the Japanese branch of the Hellfire Club, and was soon appalled at what he saw. He reprimanded all of the Club's members for their rampant decadence and waste, and soon set about reforming the Club. It took some time, but eventually, Shiro was placed in charge of the group and redirected its vast resources and wealth to pursuits more beneficial to the people of Japan. It is his sincere hope that all branches of the Club around the world will someday follow his example.
DURING APOCALYPSE: Shortly before the coming of Apocalypse, Sunfire was appointed leader of Big Hero Six, Japan's first attempt at a national team of superheroes. Among the ranks of the team were the Silver Samurai, attempting to atone for his past misdeeds, the robotic dragon Baymax (remote controlled by boy genius Hiro Takachiko), mysterious martial artist Honey Lemon, and energy wielding GoGo Tomago.
The team was barely in its infancy when Apocalypse struck, and they all fought valiantly to protect Tokyo from the disaster the Eye of Horus wrought on the city, but their efforts were too little too late. Tokyo was all but destroyed, and a great many lost their lives.
This did not dissuade Sunfire, as he quickly used his Hellfire Club connections to rebuild the city, to give those displaced homes, and to honor those lost in the wave of destruction brought about by the Eye as national heroes.
He was not, however, satisfied with just rebuilding Japan this time around. He convinced his superiors in the Japanese government that it would be beneficial to Japan were he to assist the whole world in the recovery process, making Japan the saviors of the world, going out of their way to assist those in need. In this effort, he has aligned himself with SHIELD as Japan's representative to the US peacekeeping force, and is now in the states once more.
SAMPLE RP POST:The Apocalypse had come and gone, and Tokyo survived. Granted, it was clinging to life desperately, a battered and bruised shell of its former glory. The Japanese people were a strong people, though, and they would come out on top of this stronger than ever, and would prove to the world that it would take more than even the end of the world to bring Japan to its knees. Still, the city was weakened. Struck by disaster, and currently under a strict ten o'clock curfew to keep its citizens safe. Most abided by that curfew.
There were some, though, who did not care either way for the nation's prosperity, for the good of the whole.
<"Hurry! Just bust the window down and grab the stuff!">* a young man dressed all in black said to his partner in crime, who was busy trying to pry open the front window of an electronics store well after operating hours.
<"No way, you idiot! They've got alarms in this place! If I smash the windows, the police will come running, or even worse,
he will come.">
<"He is already here,"> a voice spoke quietly, yet forcefully from behind them. The two startled, and turned around only to be met with a bright flash of light that temporarily blinded them. When the light died down, they saw him. His posture was tall and erect, prideful and unmovable, yet not poised to attack. However, the smoldering heat emanating from his body told more than enough of his anger. It was enough to make the two sweat profusely. <"You should be ashamed of yourselves, taking advantage of these troubling times for your own personal gain. Have you no honor?">
The two stood, shaking in fear and unresponsive.
<"Well? Do you?"> he asked, the heat of his frustration burning ever so hotter. But still, the would-be thieves were too terrified to say a single word.
<"The answer is clearly 'no'. Drop your weapons and return home this instant. You will not attempt to burglarize another store, you will not stop for food, you will not loiter. And believe me, I will know if you do. And it will make me angry. You will burn if you make me angry.">
The boys gave only a shaken nod of their heads, and with a clatter, the crowbar the one was holding fell to the pavement as the two ran off.
Shiro sighed, and allowed his heat to dissipate as he picked up the crowbar. He focused his power on it, and at first it glowed hot, but after a second, converted plasma and dissipated into the air like a jet of flame. Shortly after that, so too did Shiro himself, flying off into the night sky to continue patrolling the streets of Tokyo.
