Name; Lexie Amanda Peregrino
Nickname(s); She usually goes by Lexie but sometimes gets called Lex or Lexa
Age; 14
Gender; Female
Birth date; 7th December
Grade; Freshman
Clique; Preps

Appearance; Lexie is a very sweet looking girl. People have often said “butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth” in reference to her angelic looking face. She has never looked mature for her age, because she has a child-like look about her. Her green almond shaped eyes are wide and deep set, with a child-like innocence behind them. The word doe-eyed would describe them extremely well. She has a heart shaped face of porcelain skin with a faint pink blush to her cheeks and a warm, friendly smile that lights up her face and adds a twinkle to her eyes. When Lexie smiles, you can’t help smiling too and she has an infectious giggling laugh that always makes you laugh along with her. The dimples on each cheek, just add to her child-like appearance and her teeth, apart from the front two, are very small and look almost as if she still has her baby teeth. Lexie may have that all American girl look, but she is in fact only half American. Her wide eyes and short nose come from her father’s side of the family who were French and her pale skin, wide forehead and golden blonde hair are from the Danish side of her family. Her pale skin is something that really annoys Lexie, because whatever she does, she can never get a tan. If she spends a day in the sun, Lexie always burns no matter how much sunscreen she puts on, and a Midwestern summer is not good for skin like Lexie’s.

Her blonde hair is straight and quite fine and falls just below her shoulders. She has had a few subtle layers cut into it, to give it more volume but she very rarely has much done to it at all. She has never coloured her hair or had it cut any shorter than it is now, because she is always very worried about how it would turn out and whether it would suit her or not. Growing up on a farm, Lexie has never had a chance to doll herself up for anything. Back home, she leaves her hair down and simple usually tucked behind her ears, her face free of make-up and wears a pair of worn jeans, with a plain t-shirt. At Alderon Prep however, everything was different. Here were girls with beautiful clothes and elegant hair-do’s and Lexie wanted to fit in. So she ditched her horse-riding clothes for new fitted jeans, knee length skirts and girly tops and blouses. She didn’t spend a fortune on her clothes, because she didn’t have the money but she made a bit of an effort to look less country and more of a city girl. Though, it doesn’t matter how hard she tries, she has never been able to wear heels and somehow she thinks she never will be able to. She just can’t seem to keep her balance when she’s wearing them, and trainers are certainly more comfortable. She still doesn’t wear a lot of make-up, but she does use a little mascara, some pink lipgloss, and of course some concealer whenever she gets a zit. She is however, much more comfortable in her old, slightly holey jeans and a baggy t-shirt, no matter what she’s supposed to think.

Lexie has never been a girl who wears a lot of jewellery, for the simple fact that jewellery on a farm is a bit of a stupid idea – rings could get lost, necklaces could get caught etc. She does have some jewellery that she likes to wear however. Her favourite necklace, is one that she was given by her mother for her eleventh birthday. It is a very thin chain of silver to which is attached a small oval pendant with a pearl in the middle. It used to belong to her grandmother and it is one of Lexie’s most treasured possessions. Lexie has pierced ears (which her parents know nothing about, since she had them pierced almost as soon as she arrived at Alderon. Her father was very strict on the subject of her never piercing her ears, or any other part of her body) and she wears small diamante studs in them. Lexie is quite small in stature, standing at 5’3, though she hopes that she will grow a bit taller as she gets older. She has a slim frame and is very small boned, with thin wrists, a flat chest and a long and elegant neck, which is sometimes covered by her pointy chin. Along with her slight frame, Lexie is very light, which has always helped her as a cheerleader as she is easy to lift and toss.

Personality; Lexie is a girl of many flaws, who is always trying to over compensate for them. Being a perfectionist, she has always hated her flaws and has tried to make up for them by being the best she can be. Some might say she is an over-achiever and they would be right, but she is merely trying to cover up her faults. However, she is a truly ambitious girl who believes that she can do anything she sets her mind to and her ambition is part of what makes her such an over-achiever. Her drive to do well in everything she does is overwhelming, and can take its toll on her after a while – because it’s impossible to do well in everything. She sets herself near impossible goals and holds herself to an extremely high standard, which she cannot always uphold. There is no room for failure in Lexie’s mind and if she ever feels that she has let herself down or failed at something, there is nothing anyone can do to take her mind off it. She won’t exactly sink into a downward spiral of depression or anything like that but she will mentally kick herself over and over again and think over what she could have done instead until it will drive her crazy. There are two things that can help Lexie get over a failure; one is a long, wild ride on her horse Whirlwind (which obviously can’t help during school, since her horse is back in her stables in Iowa) and two, is cheerleading. Lexie was a cheerleader in middle school, and she has always found that it takes her mind off whatever was troubling her.

Lexie has a warm, sociable personality who loves being around her friends. She is most comfortable when in a big crowd of friends, talking and laughing, but she doesn’t like standing out too much. Lexie has never been one for the spotlight, despite her love of cheerleading and she hates being the centre of attention. Though, she doesn’t like being entirely ignored either. Lexie would prefer a happy medium, where she is noticed and appreciated by others, but is not in the limelight. This allows her to make friends with people with strong personalities very easily as there is never any fear of her stealing their thunder. She has a terrible fear of public speaking and gets choked up whenever she has to give a presentation in class. She is a very loyal friend and expects the same loyalty in return, but the thing with Lexie is that she is far too trusting. She is very naive in her ways and trusts too easily, letting people walk all over her. She can get upset easily, but doesn’t like to show her emotions so she bottles them up, which is far worse in the long run. Whilst Lexie can make friends easily, she is also good at making enemies. Bottling up her emotions, whether anger or hurt is not good for her, and eventually all those emotions that she hasn’t dealt with start brimming over the top and then all it takes is one hurtful or snide comment made by someone and whoosh, all Lexie’s emotions come flowing out in one angry outburst. It really is the worst kind of temper to have.

Lexie is a very religious girl. She was brought up a devout Christian and she has maintained her faith in her adolescent years. She still goes to church every Sunday, and says her prayers before bed and she is a firm believer in not having sex before marriage. However, she isn’t the type to force her religion on anyone, in fact, hardly anyone at school even knows she’s religious. Lexie only tells her most trusted friends, because she cares too much about what people think of her and believes that people would judge and ridicule her for her faith and one of her deepest fears is being laughed at by everyone. She knows that she shouldn’t care what people think – that Jesus had to endure ridicule and even crucifixion for what he was, and she’s ashamed that she can’t be more open about her beliefs, but she just can’t bring herself to tell people. Even her closest friends don’t know just how religious she is. One of Lexie’s biggest flaws is how judgemental she is, not just of herself, but of other people. She hates this flaw in herself most of all, because she hates it when people are judgemental of her or of other people, though unlike some girls, she never speaks her judgements out loud. Lexie judges people not on their looks or wealth, or anything like that, but based on their sins. She is very judgemental of people who sleep around, since she believes in saving yourself for marriage – or at least until you’re old enough to act responsibly (she can’t expect everyone to wait for marriage) and she is judgemental of people who use drugs, get wasted at parties, who are wasting their lives or who just disrespect themselves.

Lexie is a very optimistic girl, who always tries to look on the bright side of life. In her mind, there’s nothing worse than being negative and pessimistic about something that hasn’t even happened yet, and even when things go horribly wrong she tries to stay positive – unless it was her fault of course, that’s a different matter entirely. She has an idealistic view of the world, thinking of how things should be, instead of how they really are, and when it comes to love she is very naïve. She believes in soul mates and true love and hopes one day to be swept off her feet and fall madly in love. So far she hasn’t had any relationships with anyone but she has had a few meaningless crushes in the past that have never really led anywhere. She’s never even been kissed before. Lexie’s free-spirited and loves adventure of any kind. She loves feeling the wind in her hair and the freedom of just riding off on her horse to some unknown location and hates feeling cooped up. She’s a little claustrophobic so hates being stuck in a room for a long period of time, especially if it’s cramped or crowded. One of Lexie’s best qualities is just how reliable she is. You can trust Lexie with any secret and she’ll make sure she keeps it, or you can ask Lexie to borrow her notes for class and she’ll hand them over without a second thought. This does tend to make her a bit of a pushover though, as some people take advantage of her kindness and reliability.

Lexie has never had much money, but this hasn’t turned her into a tight fisted money grabber, it has turned her into the very opposite. Lexie is a very generous girl and will help out people with less money than her if she has to. Her parents did their best when Lexie was young to instil strong moral principles in their children and so Lexie has grown up with a strong moral compass. However, even though she has these strong morals and views that doesn’t mean to say that she always goes along with what’s right. Lexie is, to put it plainly, a coward. She hates standing up for what’s right, because she’s scared of what people will say or do, so even though she hates watching someone being picked on or taunted, she very rarely ever does anything about it. Standing up to people takes courage, and that’s not something that Lexie was blessed with. She wants to do the right thing, but she’s just scared about the consequences. Lexie would like to be an honest person, but that’s not exactly the case. Now she doesn’t lie per se but she tends to skirt around the truth and she hardly ever says what she’s thinking. The reason for this? Because Lexie thinks way too much. Before she says or does anything she always thinks about her actions or words and analyses their meaning, or what they might sound like to someone else. If her conclusion is that her words or actions will be hurtful to another person then she keeps them to herself. Considerate? Yes. But there’s also a rather selfish reason in there somewhere; because she just wants to be liked. She absolutely abhors making enemies, so tries to do as much as possible to stop her from making them.

History; Tyler Peregrino was the first of the Peregrino line to be born in America. His father Gaspard Peregrino had been born and raised in Bordeaux and had immigrated to the United States when he was twenty six, along with his wife Anouk. They moved to a small town in Iowa, where they could start setting their roots and having children. Tyler was the first born, named after their next door neighbour; James Tyler, who helped deliver the baby, as they were much too far from a hospital. Two years later, came Blanche and finally three years after that Blaise. Tyler met Bridget when he was eight years old, when the two were paired to work together on a project for World Cultures in school. The teacher paired them up because each had different cultural backgrounds, Tyler who had been brought up with both American and French traditions and Bridget who was part Danish on her mother’s side. The two became fast friends and would remain friends into High School, when the two began dating. The pair were so close, they even attended the same college, unable to be apart from each other. However, when Bridget was nineteen, both of her parents were killed in a car crash, leaving the distraught teen their farm to look after. Bridget knew how important the farm was to her parents, it had been in their family for three generations, so Bridget dropped out of college to go back home and take over the farm.

Tyler stayed on at school, changing his major to Business so that he could help Bridget with the farm once he’d graduated. That period, where Tyler continued on in school whilst Bridget was back home trying her best to run the farm, really tested their relationship. There were times when the two wouldn’t see each other for months on end and it really put a strain on the relationship. Tyler’s determination not to give up on the relationship however, is what saved it. He studied hard to get his degree and tried to visit Bridget as often as he could. Only once was he tempted by another girl in college, her name was Sarah and she was beautiful, but as hard as it was to turn her down, he remained faithful to Bridget and soon he was graduating and travelling back to their home town in Iowa. As soon as he saw Bridget after getting home, he got down on one knee and proposed. Bridget, who had had a hard couple of years, burst into tears and accepted almost immediately. That same time next year, she was walking down the aisle at the local church and saying “I Do”. The next three years seemed to go by quickly, with Bridget teaching Tyler everything there was to know about running a farm and him coming up with ideas of how to make money off their farm. It all seemed to come to an abrupt halt however, when Bridget found out that she was pregnant. Several feelings all rushed over her at once; excitement, happiness, anxiety and she couldn’t tell which was the strongest. She told Tyler, who was incredibly excited and started talking about setting up a savings account for the baby’s college tuition. It was then that Bridget felt reassured and knew that having this baby would be a blessing.

Nine months later and baby Lexie was born. Her father wanted her christened Alexandra, but her mother felt that it was too formal for a baby that cute and so they made a compromise. She would be christened Lexie. A year and a half later, Lexie gained a baby sister whom they named Megan. Tyler and Bridget wanted the best for their children. They wanted them to attend Ivy League colleges and become doctors or lawyers, so when Lexie was seven, her mother showed her some college brochures, telling her all about the benefit of a good college education. After seeing the Yale brochure, Lexie knew that that is where she wanted to go to school. After that, Lexie worked extremely hard in school to get her grades up so that she would be able to get into Yale. However her parents thought, that it might be easier getting Lexie into Yale if she attended a private school, so they started looking into potential schools for Lexie and her sister to attend. They came across Alderon Prep at the beginning of their search, but dismissed it, because it was so far away and they didn’t want their daughters to be so far away from home, but most of the other Prep schools they looked at were either too expensive to send both their daughters too, or in New York (and Bridget was adamant that she was not going to be sending her girls to New York where, she said, they would get into all sorts of trouble). They had it narrowed down to two schools; Alderon, and a prep school in Massachusetts. Lexie’s mother wanted her to attend the school in Massachusetts, but Lexie took one look at Alderon and knew it was the school for her. Besides, she had always wanted to go to California.

For the next few years, Lexie worked extremely hard in school in order to keep her grades up so that she would be accepted into Alderon, and her parents worked hard in obtaining the tuition so that they wouldn’t have to dip into her college fund. They sold a few of their purebred horses and made room in the stables for outsiders to rent a stable or two to keep their horses in. With a lot of hard work, Lexie turned herself into a straight A student and the teachers noticed and wondered whether or not she was being challenged enough. After some consideration, they moved Lexie up a year, skipping almost all of sixth grade. When Lexie started seventh grade, she felt quite alone, not knowing any of these older students, but she quickly made friends with a few of the popular girls who were on the cheerleading squad and they asked Lexie to try out. After a somewhat gruelling audition, she made the team and it was then that Lexie discovered her love of cheerleading. It all started out simply enough, Lexie started spending less time at home and more time practicing with her squad. She had to be good enough to be kept on the team, so she started practicing more and more. At first she was able to keep up with her school work, chores at home and not miss a single practice. However in eighth grade, her school work started slipping and her parents were worried that after all her hard work, her grades wouldn’t be good enough to get into Alderon, and ultimately Yale, so they gave her an ultimatum: cheerleading or her horse. They knew that Lexie would never give up her horse, who was her best friend, and they were right. Lexie quit cheerleading and started to pull her grades back up and the following year she was packing her suitcase and being driven to California. Her parents said a tearful goodbye, before setting off back to Iowa and Lexie started her new life at Alderon. Starting a new school was daunting enough, without having to be the youngest there. All of her peers were almost a year older than her and part of Lexie wished she had never skipped sixth grade. However, not a lot of people seemed to care whether she was the youngest in the school, and slowly Lexie’s confidence grew.

Sample RP; Her trainers squeaked as she walked down the halls, as she passed classroom after classroom. She didn’t even know where she was going anymore. Her mind was elsewhere and who could blame her? There was a pause as she stopped to avoid bumping into someone, before the squeaking started up again. She moved quickly through a crowded corridor and even after she had passed them, the noise they made pierced her ears like a high pitched shriek. She shut her eyes momentarily, hoping that would block out the incessant bleating coming from the herd of girls exiting one of the science classrooms, but she couldn’t stop, even when she heard one of the girls call her name. She had to keep moving. That was the only way that she was going to make it back to her dorm room in one piece. If she stopped for one moment, the true reality of it all would hit her and she might break down right there and then and she wouldn’t want anyone to see her cry. If they saw her crying, they’d ask her what was wrong and she wasn’t sure she could manage to get the words out: that her best friend in the whole world, her horse Whirlwind, who would toss his mane at her when she was upset, who she would tell all of her worries and troubles to, who had taken her on some of the most exciting rides she had ever had, was now dead and she hadn’t been able to say goodbye to him.

She wasn’t even sure anyone would be able to understand the connection she had with him. Whirlwind had been her best friend since she was seven years old and he was unlike any other horse she had ever met. He was intelligent and empathetic, free-spirited and on occasions, stubborn. They had experienced many an adventure together, like the time they rode so far away from the farm that they got lost and couldn’t find their way back until the sheriff was called out to look for them. Lexie had been grounded for a month for that one and the sheriff hadn’t been too happy with her either. Or the time when grumpy old Mrs Foster from the big house at the end of the road caught Whirlwind eating her hydrangeas, and chased them away with a broom. That memory brought a small smile to Lexie’s lips, that was soon wiped off when she remembered that she would have no more adventures like that. Whirlwind was gone and nothing would be able to change that. Lexie didn’t even know that Whilwind had cancer. Her parents had told her on the phone that morning that he had to be put down because of his aggressive untreatable cancer of the intestines.

Why hadn’t they called her sooner? She could have left school for a few days to be with him during his last hours of life. He must have been so scared and she wasn’t there to comfort him. She was so angry with her parents for not telling her about it sooner. They didn’t want to disrupt her from school, they had said. They knew how important getting into Yale was for her and they didn’t want to do anything to disturb her school work. A tear started to form in her eye as she reached her dorm room. She wouldn’t have cared if her school work had suffered, all she cared about was Whirlwind. She would have given up her dream of going to Yale for him, but her parents were so blinded by the thought of their daughter going to an Ivy League college that they had forgotten how strong a bond Lexie had with Whirlwind and they decided to do what they thought “was best”. Yes those were their words. They thought that by not telling Lexie they were doing what was best for her. How could they be so callous? Luckily, her dorm was empty, because Lexie could no longer hold back the tears that were struggling behind her eyes. The moment she shut the door, they began to fall freely and she sank to the floor in despair. She had managed to hold her feelings back all day, but now they all came rushing out along with the fast falling tears.
