. A C T I V I T Y . C H E C K . o2 . YES. It is that time again. I decided to skip February because it didn't make sense to do another check after a mere two weeks.
You need to READ all of this, no matter how long it is. Don't be lazy. I could tell that several people simply did NOT read this initial post when claiming their characters' safety.
As always, the activity check will END exactly one week after it has initially been posted. Everyone is subject to the activity check, including admins. What am I saying? Don't put it off until the last minute, because you just might be the one to forget to do it until it's too late. I would hate to delete your characters if you actually intended on playing them and were just victim to procrastination. I understand that it would suck for that to happen, but I'm not your mother (as mentioned before). I shouldn't have to ride your coattails just to make sure you get things done. That is your responsibility.
An activity check is exactly that - a check of your activity. If you're not active on the board, what is the point in having your character? By holding a character you're not even using, you are:
A) Keeping someone else from using that face claim.
B) Keeping possible plots from going into play because others are waiting on something previously planned with your character.
C) Keeping others waiting for a reply that may never come.
D) Wasting group space that may get blocked off because there are too many in that group (eg. the grades).
When filling out the activity check, you need to only put threads of yours that are ACTIVE. An active thread is defined as one that has been posted in within the past two weeks. Actually, an active thread should only be one week, but I'm being lenient here.
ACTIVE THREADS DO NOT INCLUDE:
AIM chats.
Finished threads.
Open threads with no replies.
"But what if I've replied to all of my topics and the other people won't reply just yet?" Why, I'm glad that you've asked! For starters, get on their ass about replying! I'm not saying you should harrass them, but politely PM/IM/e-mail the other person and ask them to please reply. If you don't have that many threads on your plate already, consider snagging an open topic somewhere, or starting one of your own and inviting someone else. Merely starting an open topic is not enough. What's to say you're not just starting an open topic to keep your character safe before you plan to disappear once more? We currently have ten open threads (at the time of typing this) across the board that you can choose from. It takes two people to make an active thread. Try jumping in one that's already made. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but we should be cutting about half of the board's characters with this activity check. I admit that it was a mistake on our part to do NBH's revamp right as everyone was beginning their winter/Christmas breaks... The same thing happened with v.2 of the NBH. It was started while everyone was still on summer break, but once school started back, everyone disappeared. That's how we know who our lasting members are. They are the ones that stick it out, despite how busy they might be with school. I am NOT saying that those of you that are overwhelmed by your school schedules aren't 'good' members or anything... I understand that school is important. However, we can't really function as an RP without active members... and the site can't just go on hold while we wait for a couple of months until you are able to get another break from school.
If you are one of those people, then please don't take that the wrong way. We openly accept you - we just ask that you at least try to stay a little active. Maybe just have one single thread while you're in school. You don't have to post every day, obviously. Add a reply when you have time on the weekends, perhaps. Shawna is the perfect example. This girl is SO busy with school, cheerleading, and friends and family... but she still comes on at least once or twice a week to add a reply in when she can. (*snuggles Shawna* on a sidenote) If she can do it, then you can too. If you find yourself unable to at least spare half an hour a week, then perhaps you should re-think your RP career altogether.
As I mentioned in the last activity check - don't be selfish. If you aren't playing a character, and it's not likely that you're going to get them active in the next week or two, then you should get rid of them. While school is still active for everyone, I'm sure that many of you notice there is a deficit of new activity, as well as new members. It's not likely that someone is going to come in and steal your character just because you gave them up for now. You can always re-make this character if you find that you suddenly have loads more time on your hands. I don't just delete your application, posts, or plottage. Those just get moved to the garbage_BIN, under the thread category "__NBH v.3". They will always be there for you to take back.
I am also thinking of doing something (the thought just struck me)... For those of you that might be too busy to post at the moment, but DO honestly foresee yourself getting active once your schedule allows... to be marked as 'Inactive' and have your account kept. One of our members mentioned an extended absence due to traveling abroad, and I could understand why someone in that circumstance would like to have their characters held as inactive for the moment without being completely deleted. That way others can see that you are still a member, but not to expect anything at the moment if they try posting in a plottage or what not. So if you like that idea, PM me on my Alyssa Marilynn Williams account and let me know.
Again, the only ones exempt from the activity check are those that have written notices or PMed Manda or Kate about their absence. If you don't tell us you're away on vacation, then how do we know you didn't just abandon the board? I'm going to make a new forum for away notices so that there is no confusion as to where it might belong, and then place all the past away notices in that forum.

As for filling out the form, PLEASE make sure it is filled out right. I will post my own activity check right after this, so please follow that example as to what yours should look like. Many of you seem to have a very hard time following directions for codes, and it’s really not that hard. The preview and edit buttons ARE your friend, you know… Also, don't be cutsey and make it break the example that I have set with my activity check. It's not cute like you might think.
