After the events of 'The Host', the souls have begun to realize that they're in over their heads. And, in a more human fashion than they truly know, they have split into two factions: The Rebels and the Old Souls. The Rebels have decided that Earth is their true home and intend to carry on with their human lives, live out their terms, and then die. The Old Souls have decided that this will not be beneficial to the planet, and that it would be much kinder to the rest of Earth to simply eliminate the human race and leave. In a war of politics and plotting, the Souls have more or less gone about their lives.
The Humans are nowhere near safe yet, and they're still in hiding. One thing has changed, though- they have hope. They've met other groups and begun congregating, making plots of their own. With growing numbers and knowledge of the soul lifestyle, they've begun a plot to overthrow their unkind rulers, as well. Of course, all this begs the question: when will the war break out?

Her junior year in high school was coming to a close with only three more weeks left to go before summer began. It was the time during the year when nothing was really happening. The teachers were beginning to run out of things to teach and it was still too soon to begin studying for finals. She had no homework, no papers, and no projects. It was a wonderful feeling. So, instead of being forced to work on something she could care less about, Erica was stretched out on her bed, enjoying the cool breeze that was coming through the open windows of her room and texting her various friends on her cell phone. Life really couldn’t have been any better.
In a few hours she would begin to get ready for her date with Nick, her boyfriend of nearly three years. They were going to one of the top restaurants in the area, a treat (not to mention a splurge) for their three year anniversary. She still couldn’t believe it. Had she really been going steady with Nick for three years? It seemed like such a long time when she thought about it that way but when she just thought about them together it felt like no time at all. Oh, she loved him so much. Smiling fondly at her thoughts, she quickly sent Nick a text. Erica didn’t expect a response, at least not for a while. Nick was at track practice at the moment, so he wouldn’t have his phone with him. Even so, she wanted to let him know she was thinking of him whenever he got back into the locker room. The message was a simple one: ‘Ur on my mind, hottie. Cnt wait 4 2nite. luv u -E’ He’d smile when he got it. That was one of the things Erica loved so much about Nick. His smile. It was so breathtaking. And best of all, he smiled at everything. Everyday she got to see his wondrous expression at least a hundred times. It always made her so happy to see it.
Text sent, she moved onto a more pressing one. Rebecca her best friend had been sending her messages all day about some new boy in their class. She was completely and utterly infatuated with him. Each text Rebecca sent was more and more desperate, talking about how hot the guy was, his great disposition, that he was a dog lover (Rebecca owned three of her own). Truthfully, the texts were beginning to get a little annoying, but Erica was a good best friend. She replied to each dutifully, admiring each trait Rebecca listed just as she might a painting in a museum. Half way through the text her phone beeped at her, notifying her of an incoming call. Erica scowled. She would pick up the call, but by doing that, she’d lose everything she had just typed out in the text and it was a rather long message as texts went. But oh well. Life was life. It wasn’t like she had anything better to day anyways. Exiting out of the texting application, she took the call.
“Hello?”
“Erica,”
Erica blinked. It was Mrs. Perry, Nick’s mom. That was unusual. They got along well together, but she had never gotten a call from her before. “Hey Mrs. Perry. What’s up?”
“Erica, something’s happened… to Nick.”
She frowned in confusion. “What?” What was Mrs. Perry trying to say? The only thing that Erica could think of that could have happened to Nick was that he had won that major track race he had been hoping to place in. But Mrs. Perry sounded so worried. She would have been excited if that was what had happened. Mrs. Perry was her son’s biggest fan when it came to track. And besides, there wasn’t a meet today. It was just a practice.
Mrs. Perry continued. Her voice sounded almost as if she didn’t believe the words that were coming out of her mouth. “He was crossing the field today… they were practicing javelin… One of the boys didn’t see him… It didn’t hit anything critical but he’s in the ICU…”
Erica gasped. “No…” Silence. She struggled to get her emotions under control. This could not be happening. What were the chances of this happening? Who got hit with javelins? “What hospital?” It came out as a whisper.
“Mercy Heights.”
“I’ll be right there.”
The rest of the memory wasn’t anything that could actually be considered a real memory. It was a blur of whites and beiges: hospital colors. There were beeps and quiet murmurs belonging to doctors who had seen horrible things like this everyday for years. Only one part stood out.
“It all depends if he makes it through the day.” One of the doctors had told them.
“And what are those chances?” Mrs. Perry asked faintly.
“About twenty five percent. I’m so sorry.”
Erica felt as if she might be sick.
best memory , “And what are we going to name him if it’s a boy?” Red asked, running a gentle, caring hand over Dawn’s bulging belly. They were relaxing on their bed, Dawn lying on her back, her head propped up with pillows and Red sitting next to her. It was almost midnight, but neither of them was ready to go to bed just yet.
“Logan,” Dawn replied. Her voice was lazy and content. She closed her eyes with a smile, enjoying the feel of his hand on her. It was times like these when she was positive about how much she loved Red. He was just so wonderful to her. So caring and affectionate. She always felt safe, but when she was with him, she felt that feeling of safety spiral to a new level. Nothing could possibly harm her when Red was around.
“And if it’s a girl?” He brought his hand up to her face so as to brush a curl out of her eyes.
“Amalie”
“That’s a pretty name,”
“Uh huh,”
Dawn and Red had chosen the two names Logan and Amalie together months before while pouring over an old book of baby names. The healers at the hospital could have easily told them if they were going to have a boy or a girl, but they had chosen to wait and find out when the child was born. Even the humans had had the technology to tell what the sex of their baby would be, but even so, Dawn and Red had decided to keep it a surprise. It seemed more special that way. And besides, choosing the perfect name had been fun. If they didn’t know the sex of their child, that gave them a reason to choose two instead of just one.
They were silent for a moment. Finally, Red glanced over at Dawn. Opening her eyes, she smiled back. And then she gasped.
Red looked much more than alarmed. “Dawn! What’s wrong?”
“I-” she began, gasping again. “Red! The baby!” overall personality , Dawn, has a bright, inviting personality and is almost always smiling. She can’t really be considered adventurous because she’s most comfortable within her home, but while inside that house she’s happy to try just about anything. She loves exciting, amusing things. There’s a soft spot in her heart for jokes and she adores watching tv, especially the old, more shocking human programs. It’s not that she likes the violence it portrays (she’s very much against it), she just likes being able to see what real human life was like before the souls arrived. Dancing and singing are also two more of Dawn’s favorite pastimes. She has a decent voice, but in no way does she have a future in show business. She just likes to sing along with the tunes on the radio and cds. As for her dancing skills, they’re a little better than her singing, but just by a bit. What she really loves about dancing is being able to do it with Red. Couples dancing is her favorite because it requires skill and cooperation on both sides. She feels it brings them closer and they dance together in the living room at least once a week.
Being a soul, thus adoring kindness and charity, Dawn is a wicked hostess. She may not be able to cook the meals she serves her guests, but she knows the best catering services around her and knows exactly how to make someone feel welcome. She doesn’t throw parties often, but when she does, they’re something worth talking about for days after. But, just because her parties are few and far apart doesn’t mean she never gets to see her friends. Dawn hosts get togethers with her various acquaintances just about once a week. If they’re going to be happening around the evening, she prefers to have them at a restaurant and then invite everyone home later for drinks. That way she doesn’t have to cook. But, if the timing of the get together is earlier in the day, its usually held at their house. If food is needed, Dawn can just go over to the store and buy it. She can arrange it into a pleasing display for serving once she gets home. This time spent with her friends is very important to Dawn because she treasures everyone she has ever met. She’d do everything in her power to help a friend if they needed the assistance.
Dawn has a thing for humans. Sure, the souls live their human hosts’ lives as authentically as they can muster, but her curiosity goes beyond just that. As stated above, she loves listening to the humans’ music and watching their television. The fact that the old human shows are beginning to become scarce on television upsets her. So, she’s purchased a good amount of human movies to view at home at her own leisure. Dawn has also collected a few now obsolete human items over the few years she has been on earth. They’re displayed in places around the house. For example, she’s kept the locks on her doors, framed a few twenty dollar bills in the living room, and displayed three old aspirin bottles in the bathroom.
But the biggest connection to the real human world that Dawn has is her son, Logan. While Logan might be a soul’s son, he is pure human. There’s no soul inside of him and Dawn intends to keep it that way. Luckily, no one’s given her a problem about it. Logan is the most important thing in her life. Ever since she first saw him, she’s known that her calling might be art, but the real reason for her life is to protect Logan and keep him happy. He might only be two months old, Dawn’s adjusted to motherhood as if she’s been one her whole life. She spends a good amount of her day feeding him, playing with him, and crooning silly baby noises at him. While some people might have tired of this by now, Dawn simply becomes more and more enthusiastic about it as the days go on. Her goal is to raise Logan to be the best he can and uphold the values of the souls, even if he himself is not one.
Besides being a fulltime artist and mother, Dawn has also taken on the responsibilities of a housewife. For some reason unknown to just about everyone, Dawn has an obsession with cleaning. She doesn’t mind paint on her clothes or dirt on her jeans when she’s outside, but God help if there’s dust on her coffee table. On occasion she’ll go into cleaning fits where everything in the house will be swept, wiped or scowered. These little cleaning escapades have become more frequent now that Logan has joined the family. Dawn understands how susceptible to illness infants can be, and she wants to do everything in her power that Logan stays as healthy as possible, even if returning him to health is as simple as taking a trip to the local healing facilities.
a hoper a prayer ,parents , Craig Sheik, 56, Pharmacist, now a soul Mary Sheik, 54, Homemaker, now a soul siblings , N/A other relatives , Nick Perry (husband), 23, Architect, turned into a soul (Brilliant Red Flame) hometown , Scottsdale, Arizona date of birth , August 2nd, 1989 overall history , Gentle Breeze at Dawn originally came from the flower planet. She loved it there. Some of the perks of the planet were that she could soak up the sun, relax, and never have a care in the world. All she had to do was live. She never made much of a name for herself, except within her band of friends that resided around her. Dawn was always a bit more adventurous than the rest, although she never showed it in her actions. Instead, it appeared in the opinions she made and the ideas she came up with. When her first lifetime was up, Dawn chose to stay on the flower planet. However, during her second lifetime, she began to realize that the flower planet was not the world for her. As stated before, she loved it very much, but she wanted something else in her life. Relaxing all the time was nice, but Dawn felt as if she should be doing more than just that. When her second lifetime came to an end, she requested a new host on the somewhat new planet, Earth. From what she had heard about it, the planet and the hosts available there sounded exciting, not to mention intriguing.
She requested a female, immature host, but not one that could still be considered a child. Dawn was ready to take charge of herself when she arrived on Earth. She didn’t want a more mature soul having to help her out with everything. According to her logic, that would have defeated the point of being in a human host. So, when Dawn woke up in her new home, she found herself in the body of Erica Shiek, a nineteen-year-old girl from Arizona. It was an easy adjustment. No problems occurred and She didn’t even struggle with Erica’s last memory. Of course, like any other soul choosing a human host, Dawn had been warned that the memory might be disturbing, but it had not been. Erica had been caught unaware by the Seekers, sleeping in what she had thought was a safe area. Obviously (and unfortunately for her) it had not been. Practically the moment she had opened her eyes to discover a Seeker crouching over her, she had slipped back under into unconsciousness thanks to some unknown drug that had been administered by the Seeker. The memory had left Dawn more confused than anything else. It certainly had not been disturbing, at least not at first.
But Erica had been caught with another human by the name of Nick Perry. Seeing as Nick had put up a fight, trying to keep the Seekers away from Erica, it had been assumed the two humans had been some sort of couple. With this in mind, the Healers in charge of putting the souls into Erica and Nick had introduced Dawn to the soul in Nick’s body, Brilliant Red Flame. Meeting Brilliant Red Flame, or Red as he preferred to be called, was a strange experience. She had never felt anything akin to it in her life. The Seekers had been right about them being a couple. From Erica’s memories, Dawn knew Erica had been together with Nick for six years before they had been caught. They had spent countless hours together in school, on dates, and just hanging out in general. It was obvious that Erica loved Nick more than anything else in the world. Because of this, Dawn’s body reacted strangely to seeing Red, or rather the body. Her first instinct was to run to him as quickly as she could and give him a tight hug. Because of this, Dawn had taken an unconscious step towards Red, but prevented herself from acting on the rest of the impulse. Red seemed to be going through about the same thing because he took a step towards her as well.
During their first meeting while still in the hospital, Dawn and Red agreed to move in together. If Erica and Nick had loved each other so much, it would have been cruel to separate them. Besides, neither Dawn nor Red seemed to dislike the new feelings they suddenly had towards each other… or at least each other’s bodies. Neither of them had ever felt anything like it. Erica and Nick certainly had had something special. After examining the humans’ relationship with Dawn for a few minutes, Red even pulled a ring out of his pocket that Nick had been intending to give to Erica. Both of them knew what that meant.
They found a perfect little three-bedroom house just outside of Phoenix, Arizona and within a week of arriving on Earth they moved in. Dawn took one bedroom, Red took the other, and the third was turned into an art studio for Dawn, seeing as her calling was art, especially painting. They didn’t have much in the way of furnishings, but thanks to Dawn’s artistic eye and Red’s willingness to help out, they soon changed that. Both wanted to turn their house into a real home. While the set up of the living room and kitchen changed, so did the set up in the bedroom. Now that Dawn and Red were spending so much time together both alone and in public, they realized just how powerful the attraction between their bodies was. Only a month after moving in, Nick’s (now Red’s) ring was on Dawn’s finger, there was an official engagement, and they were sharing a bedroom. Dawn’s old room became a guestroom for if or when they ever had people over for the night. The wedding was a simple, quiet affair. About twenty five friends and neighbors were invited to the ceremony and they spent their honeymoon in Hawaii.
Now, Dawn and Red were both particularly interested in the ways of humans. They enjoyed the old human shows that were occasionally on television and adored the human music that they purchased and listened to on the radio. Painting hadn’t changed much between human time and the time of the souls, but Dawn tried to think about human things while she worked in an attempt to get a more human experience. Red did the same sort of thing with his work, but his approaches were a little different seeing as he wasn’t an artist. When they were twenty two, three years after arriving on Earth, they decided to go through the most human experience of all: having a child.
Out of all the strange experiences that Dawn had been through on Earth, being pregnant and having her son was most definitely the strangest of all. But, at the same time it was the best and most amazing without a doubt. She could hardly believe that there was a little human growing inside of her, even as she discovered her baby bump for the first time, saw it grow into a baby bulge, and went through the cravings and morning sickness every pregnant woman went through. Some parts about her pregnancy were great. Dawn loved the attention she got when she went outside to do errands. She loved how attentive Red was to her and how he made sure she was always comfortable as the pregnancy moved into the last few months. And she loved daydreaming about her future child. However, with the good came the bad. There were mood swings, the morning sickness, and of course the pain of actually baring her child. But even the worst parts of being pregnant were completely worth it when Dawn was able to hold her child in her arms finally. The love she felt for the little infant in her arm was incredible. It even shadowed her love for Red, something she never thought she’d live to see. One look at her child and she knew she’d do everything him safe. Dawn and Red named their son Logan Perry, a very human name for their very human child. When approached by Healers about turning Logan over to become a host, Dawn promptly refused. No one was taking Logan away from her.
Dawn and Red are still living in their little house on the edge of Phoenix. They’ve changed the guest room into Logan’s room and Dawn can proudly call herself a stay at home mom. She hasn’t been happier in her three lifetimes.
a magic bean buyer ,hair and eyes , Dawn has straight blonde hair that reaches just an inch below her shoulders when she lets it down. Most of the time though she has it pulled it up into a high ponytail. It’s just easier to take care and deal with of that way when she spends nearly all her time cleaning, painting, and taking care of Logan. She’s not a fan of washing paint or spit up out of her hair. However, when she’s outside of the house she’ll usually let her hair down. After all, she really does enjoy having it down around her shoulders and there’s less of a chance that it’ll get in the way when she’s doing things like shopping and driving. If it does, well, then she always has a hair tie or two in her purse.
Dawn’s eyes aren’t particularly remarkable. They’re a dull gray. And, seeing as she’s a soul, they have an inhuman shine around the irises. As for shape, her eyes are almond shaped and aren’t particularly big. But at the same time they’re not small either. They’re just average. They’re accented by well sculpted eyebrows and long eyelashes. build , Thin height and weight , 5' 1", 105lb distinguishing features , Dawn doesn’t have any particularly distinguishing features. If anything, she’s a little on the plain side. Her skin is naturally pale and a little blotchy in places, but she tries to cover this up by sunbathing in her back yard as often as she can manage as well as using make up. If it weren’t for the soul’s modern medicine, she’d still unfortunately be breaking out with acne, even though she’s past her teenage years. She’s also taken on Erica’s opinion that her cheeks bug out too much when she smiles, but that’s more of a flaw in the eye of the beholder. While Dawn may be thin, the ideal body build for a young woman, it’s not a particularly shapely thin. She’s far from undernourished, but she still barely has any curves to speak of. Her hips are just about non existent and, even though she’s still breast feeding Logan, her chest is very small. And of course, like every other soul in the world, Dawn has a thin scar on the back of her neck from where she was placed into her host. play by , Emma Bunton overall appearance , Dawn is a slim young woman with straight blond hair framing her oval face. While nothing particularly special beauty wise, her facial features are rather memorable. She has full cheeks that bulge out almost like chipmunk’s when she smiles, displaying what will most definitely be prominent laugh lines in ten years or so. Her lips are a pretty shade of dark pink and are a little on the thin side, especially when she smiles. No one would go as far as to accuse her of having anything close to a harelip though. Dawn’s nose, the central feature of her face, is long and ends in a perfect round shape. It fits well with her cheeks and mouth. And last, but not least, Dawn’s ears are average size with attached lobes. They do not stick out.
One of the first things that caught Dawn’s eye on Earth was fashion. It was something she had never had to deal with on the flower planet, so the new aspect to her life immediately drew her in. Before she knew it, she was filling her closet with the latest fashions, both formal and casual. Because of this, Dawn has an outfit for nearly everything. She has outfits for going out with Red, outfits for going to the store, outfits for playing in the park with Logan, outfits for cleaning the house, and most importantly, outfits for painting. Most of the time Dawn is very stain and rip conscious. If she finds either of these in her clothing, she will immediately throw them out. However, she’s a bit more lenient when it comes to her painting and park clothing. After all, she’s bound to get messy during these activities and she knows it.
When by herself, Dawn walks at a very brisk pace. She’s not really a fan of being alone, so the sooner she can get back to a group, the happier she is. Lucky for her, Logan goes with her almost everywhere. Plenty of neighboring souls have offered their services as babysitters on multiple occasions, but Dawn still prefers to drag him around when she leaves the house. She has a stroller, a car seat, and a set up so that she can carry him on her chest without actually holding him. Seeing as Logan can be considered another person, Dawn slows down her pace when he’s with her. Her worst nightmare is accidentally causing her baby pain and suffering and she believes that walking at a slower rate will help her to prevent any accidents that might occur while they’re out and about together.
IF YOU'RE A PRETENDER, COME IN.
