Ava's history teacher wasn't so pleased that she hadn't turned in her work yet again, so he sent her down to the library to start researching for the next project early. She probably wouldn't get much done there though, having no one to push her to do it. After all, the last time she went to the library to work on a research paper, she closed the site out after ten minutes and ended up reading various blogs until the bell rang instead. "No blogs," she reminded herself silently as she walked through the doors, taking a quick glimpse at the computers before striding past them heading towards the encyclopedias. She knew she couldn't possibly get distracted by them. It wasn't like she couldn't do the assignment, after all. There always just seemed to be something better to do.
Pulling the piece of paper that had the assignment on it from her pocket, she began leafing through the encyclopedia. She found a few dates and names to jot down, before her eyes began to wonder out of habit. The library was empty. Other than the librarian, there was only one guy a few tables away. He had his head on the table and didn't seem to be working too hard either. She tilted her head a bit, trying to place his face. She was pretty sure she didn't know him. Reminding herself that she had to get some work done, she flipped another page in the book, but glanced at him every now and then from the corner of her eye.

After much waiting, Dalton heard footsteps walking into the library and on it's carpeted ground. Ooh boy. He pretended to be working for a minute, trying not to give himself away, but only let that last a minute when he realized the girl was actually serious about working. What a fool. Dalton never worked on anything. He just didn't care. And he didn't need to most of the time. Dalton had an uncanny memory. They'd learn things in class and they would stick in his head. Of course, he'd never do any of the homework (he had parties to go to people to see) which was probably why Dalton only did a mediocre job in all of his classes. But that was fine by him. He wanted to make a life, not a living. There was quite a difference. Making a life meant getting out in the world, doing things, living life to its fullest and taking advantage of every opportunity. A living meant getting a job and supporting a family. Dalton had no interest whatsoever in either a job or a family or any ties down. He wanted to experience life for everything it could be.
Which admittably had nothing to do with the girl who just entered the library. Dalton recognized her. Oh, he recognized almost everybody at their school. He searched his brain for her name. He knew almost everybody's name. And how the hell could Dalton ever forget hers? She was pretty. Not anything special, not that he would ever say that to her, but she was pretty. Not gorgeous. He would go with her in a second. She was definitely sexy enough for that. But not enough for him to brag about it. Ava. That was her name. He remembered it because it was a palindrome and Dalton had an odd fascination with names that were palindromes. Everyone had to have a fetish. And that was sortof not really his. He saw her glancing at him every so often, obviously she was interested. So Dalton decided to play on that and amuse himself. "Aaaaava" he said quietly, waiting to get her attention "Whatcha working on?" he asked playfully smiling at her in an amiable way. This could be fun. Who knew what she would think of him.

Ava’s eyes immediately shot over to him when he spoke her name. She had heard her name, hadn’t she? Her question was answered as he continued speaking; asking her what she was working on. She looked down at the encyclopedia laid out before her, and sighed a bit. Other than scrawling the words The French Revolutionary War and the top of a piece of paper and writing the date of it, she hadn’t gotten much else done. Starting a conversation with him probably wouldn’t help either, but she didn’t care too much about the project anyways. “Hey,” she said with a warm smile. She looked over him from top to bottom again, trying to place him. She had seen him around school, maybe even some parties. Perhaps he was even a friend of a friend. That was a lot more likely considering he knew her name after all. However there weren’t too many people who didn’t know who she was. She had always been social, and that was even truer in high school. She spent more time talking in class then studying, and she spent more time out at night with friends or partying then she did sleeping. Working for ten minutes was enough for today. She would force herself to buckle down tomorrow. Looking over from him to the enormous encyclopedia, she slammed it shut, causing the librarian to give her a stern look. She gave flashed apologetic smile, knowing all would be forgiven, and then turned to the mystery man. “I was researching The French Revolution,” she said, putting emphasis on was. “Pretty dull, thanks for coming along to distract me.” She smiled once again, and looked over at his table. She was pleased she wasn't the only one avoiding work, as his table didn't even have a book on it to give off the illusion. “I can see you were really working hard today too."

This girl WAS good looking. Dalton could only wonder how the hell he knew her. But it didn't really matter at this point in time. Right now he just had to...well...flirt. Which was pretty much all he knew how to do very, very very well. She seemed to be a bit startled by him knowing her name. Which almost made Dalton laugh. Sometimes that sort of thing could be comical and with this girl it was. He realized that she was one of the school's resident socialites. Oh you all know the girl, don't deny it. She was one of those girls that sorta talked to everyone and was generally friendly. Okay, Dalton had to admit that those kinds of girls actually sort of got on his nerves. He was social but...not OVERLY social. It was okay though because she seemed to be nice and pretty and wonderful enough for him to forget about that. He could just block that whole socialite behavior out. Afterall, Dalton had no right prejudging a wonderful person before they got a chance to make any form of impression on him. That was just wrong, wasn't it? Dalton made himself stop talking to himself in his head and pay attention to the girl already.
Apparently the project was as boring as it looked. I mean, come on, the French Revolution? That was one of those projects that Dalton tended to, well, half-ass to be completely blatant about it. It wasn't worth his time and he was less than interested in the material. Now for some projects he was and he actually worked believe it or not on that. She noted how he wasn't working at all. No really? Not like it was obvious or anything. It would have been even more so if he still had the skin mag on the table. But no, she didn't need to know about that. Not for any reason whatsoever. "Hun, let's face it you're the one who saved me from bordem and 'came along'. I was sitting here this whole time." Dalton said slightly flirtatiously. He looked at her. Straight in the eyes. May as well make the conversation a bit more...intimate. That was always fun to do. Psyched some girls out a little bit too. "And trust me. I've been working hard, but not on schoolwork if you know what I mean," he said, not really sure what that meant but he figured he'd let the girl figure it out for herself.

Ava was a bit surprised by the flirtatious tone. Having guys flirting with her was not new of course. She would often have guys go up to her and start flirting, but most did it on the spot not even knowing her name. She still had no idea how much this guy knew about her, so she didn’t know how justified it could be. She was tempted to call him out on it, but when he looked into her eyes she decided not to. She always thought eye contact was crucial in conversations, so the fact that he was looking directly at her drew her in. “Lucky you then,” she replied with a small smirk. At this point she decided to really look at him. He was definitely attractive. He had good features, a decent build, nice hair, and a sense of dress. She had a feeling he probably was a flirt, and not so much taken with her winning personality, but she was still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He did, after all, talk to her first and seem somewhat interested in what she was doing. She didn’t know too much about his personality though, so she made sure to keep her mind from floating off. Of course she could still have a bit of fun. She laughed a bit at his last sentence. Oh, she could only imagine in a guys mind what that would mean. “I don’t know, you may have to show me,” she said shooting him a playful look. Alright, that probably wasn’t the best response for keeping things in check.

Dalton still wasn't sure what he had meant by his last sentence but apparently she had thought he was flirting. Well he was, he had been this whole time. What else was he supposed to do with a pretty girl like that, IGNORE her? Yeah right. Never like that. He could also tell that she was a little intimidated or freaked by the fact that he knew her name. It was as if knowing her name meant that he knew more about her. It was funny, because that wasn't the first instance that had happened to Dalton. He liked to keep tabs on people's names. It was always good to be able to match a face with the person's name. Sometimes it gave him an advantage, made them feel like he was an old friend or something along those lines. Other times, like this one, it just psyched them out a little bit. They got sort of, insecure because they felt like Dalton knew more about them than they did about him. Which wasn't all a lie. He did know their name. But usually that was it. That and their general behavior, which he only got from careful observation. Dalton did a lot of that. Observing, it was what he was good at. And it usually paid off over time.
Dalton didn't feel like taking advantage of Ava though. Not of her sort of insecurity with the fact that he knew her name and possibly more and not of the fact that she was a generally nice and social person. He was going to act well today. Not doing anything mean or bad, just go with the flow and have some fun flirting her up. "Well, maybe I will show you sometime, you're just gonna have to wait and find out," Dalton smiled at her flirtatiously, he was having fun with himself. Not getting carried away. He searched his head for a good response now. Something that would strike up conversation. Something to talk about and to keep her here and not at the French Revolution. "Say, uh, are you in my English class or something? You know, with Mr.Burnes? I'm trying to figure out where I recognize you so well from,". He figured this might put her anxiousness at rest. The fact that he really didn't know all that much and he only knew her name. Placed her face. Plus this might give him more of a connection to her. Becuase, simply, he wasn't sure how he knew her other than in the halls and in passing.

With the mention of an actual place she might know him from, Ava tried harder to place him. When it came to remembering the classroom though, she could only recall the people around her, and there was at least a dozen other people whose faces she couldn’t even recall, let alone their names. She knew what it’d come off as though, if she’d say no, she didn’t remember. She’d appear to be this dumb, self absorbed person who couldn’t even remember everyone in her English class. “I think so,” she replied with a sweet smile. A moment later she paused, remembering she still didn’t know his name. How she worried she would appear was likely to happen anyways. She could ask him of course, but then she’d seem even more foolish. Or she could just continue on with the conversation, and hope his name came up. “You must not sit near me,” she added a moment later, knowing there had to be truth in that statement. Looking over at him for a few seconds, she began to wonder about his name. Several possibilities flooded her mind, but none seemed to be it. She let them keep filtering through her mind, just incase, but pushed it to the back. “So, why are you in here this period anyways?” she asked with a curious expression. The fact that she found him alone not working on anything when she came in pushed the question more, unless he was there to catch up on sleep or something.
