GOT UP O N T H E WRONG S I D E
of life today....looks like it's just one of those kinda days
----------------------------------

When Kaitlyn Mal first rolled over and opened her eyes that morning, she quickly declared that it was too early and rolled back over, closing them. Of course, as a vampire, she didn't really need much sleep, but she was an odd one, and she enjoyed it. She had gotten used to crashing after a late-night party and "sleeping in" the next day because it was expected, and to be up and refreshed so early the next day would have been a clue that something wasn't right with the girl. But after a while, she became accustomed to it and sometimes slept in without even trying. Alayna teased her for it, saying she was too human, which always got a scowl out of her, but it was true that it did in fact make her very convincing at pretending to but just any other student. Especially when the night before had gone so late, sneaking back into the common room a couple hours before dawn. The nocturnal tendencies came with her nature too, but also her personality. Curfew wasn't just something she broke occasionally; she couldn't even remember what curfew was at this point. So when she turned back around, she went back to sleep, not needing to but able to do it out of a want. She had misjudged the time, thinking it was closer to six when it was actually after half-past eight, and gave herself more time for a second try at sleep than she should have, so that when she turned around it was already a little after ten.

Swearing at herself, she got out of bed, grabbed her uniform from her trunk and dashed to the shower, though thankfully there wasn't a fight for it (else there might have been some casualties, Kaitlyn had never been known to be a morning person or to appreciate others in her way) as all of her dorm mates were already in class. Fifteen minutes later, she was out, washed and hair magicked dry though not exactly looking her greatest. She had brushed her long hair through once but not bothered to braid it or do anything in particular that she usually might have, wore only eyeliner and hastily applied nail polish as far as makeup went, her shirt untucked, her tie dangling a little. But she didn't have time to bring her looks up to par, she needed to make a dash for her class. Which was it again? She checked the time again as she moved then hurried down the steps and out the common room, and then in two flashes up the steps and out of the dungeons. That was one instance in which she did remember what she was and use it to her advantage. Not fully, so quickly that she couldn't even be seen, but a faster run than most humans would have been able to match, especially after having just gotten up. As long as there was no one around to see it, why not some slightly superhuman speed to get her to the third floor corridor? With that to her advantage, when she stopped in the corridor, feet away from the classroom, she didn't even have to pant to catch her breath. She just slowed to a walk to push open the door to the charms classroom and slipped in as subtly as possible.

She spotted Alayna first of her two other triplets, which was a given as the girl was obviously in the same year as her and also the same house. But charms was also one of the few classes Slytherins shared with Ravenclaws in third year, which meant that Ash, her other triplet, whom she preferred to Alayna quite frankly and would tell her so, was also in the class. When she spotted him, she slipped over to where he was sitting and took the seat beside him, glancing at him in greeting as she tried to pretend to pay attention to what the professor was saying. "Haven't missed anything exciting, have I?" she leaned over to ask quietly. And by that she didn't exactly mean the lecture, because she honestly couldn't care less if she had caught that or not. And she doubted anything worth mention had happened while she was away, but just in case there had been any little catastrophes she had missed or something. Might as well talk to him in pretty much greeting him good morning, whether it was in the middle of class or not. He was a claw for a reason, he probably wouldn't suffer too much from it.

i ain't never seen nobody get so high !

there were two distinct factors that made asher prompt to every class. one, being a ravenclaw, the second, being a vampire. the former was pretty much a given, and although the boy was not your typical book worm, and rarely attentive in the lessons, he was smart enough to know that attendance counted for a lot, and got you into the professors' good graces, which often helped more than actual intelligence or hard work. the second, well, that just meant it was no effort for him to achieve said initiative. he could be at the other side of the castle, and still get there before the professor did, because, like any good mal, he was not above cheating. it also meant he didn't oversleep, because, unlike his triplet, he didn't even hold the pretense of needing to. it was an ongoing joke in the ravenclaw dorms, that asher mal was nocturnal, but not only that, the boy never slept. he did, of course, but only a couple of hours a night, and all his peers saw was that he went to bed later than all of them, yet was always up early and dressed as they stumbled from their beds. it made being on time ridiculously easy, and with his boundless energy, or at least constant need for wild nights, he was so accustomed to being able to flawlessly do both the party scene and the academic side of school life, without coming close to failing.

the previous night, he'd been down in hogsmeade after hearing word of a gig at the hogs head. it had been over sixteen entry only, but it'd take more than a doorman to keep a devious ravenclaw mal out of a venue. we can't even begin to express how much this boy hates being thirteen, but outsmarting 'the man' held a kind of smug satisfaction that was completely unrivaled. most of his friends had sloped off back to the castle 'early', their early morning classes looming dangerously, but asher had simply waved them off and stayed in the infectious, live atmosphere in hogsmeade until things had begun to peter out and slow down. it wasn't uncommon for him to stay until the establishment closed or the sun started to come up. he'd got back in time for his usual two hours sleep, and was up in time to beat the rush for the showers and catch up on the reading for his next class. he tried, he honestly did, to not be too cocky and smug when his classmates stumbled downstairs, half in pajamas, half in their uniforms, rubbing their eyes painfully and yawning through every attempted word. he wasn't quite as arrogant as his father, or his brother, but he had that taunting yet disarming grin that resulted in a plethora of glares as the boys shuffled around the common room.

so when his triplet rushed late into class sometime after ten, he couldn't help but rolled his eyes at his older (by a few minutes) sister. "what's your excuse? it's not like you need sleep, girl." he reminded her, even though he knew full well she was quite accustomed to such quirks of humanity. he found it amusing most of the time, but he also felt that she should use her unique situation to her advantage more than she did. when he asked if she had missed anything, he knew full well she wasn't referring to the pages of newly written notes that sat in front of him, that he continued to subconsciously scribe down as he responded to her. "crackin' gig at the hog last night, you should have been there," he told her, "there's another at the weekend, if you fancy it?" it was no secret that kaitlyn was asher's favourite sister, which given the variety of choice he had, was quite a compliment to her. he always joked that he was the obvious choice for favourite brother, because the competition wasn't up to much. there was nothing he enjoyed more than winding up angelus, merely for the fact it was such a challenge, even for such a skilled wind up merchant as asher was.
