PAST AND PRESENT -- THEY DON'T MATTER
NOW THE FUTURE IS SORTED OUT.

-----------------------------------
It was almost eight o'clock on a Saturday morning, the birds were out chirping ,a few of them bathing in the small bird bath in the backyard. A few of the puppies down stairs were starting to wake up and run around, knocking a few things over as they started to wrestle. Troy was still in bed, his face smashed up into his pillow, blankets up to his hips. His eyes were closed, completely oblivious to the world around him, sucked up into a dream, too tired to wake himself up. So for another few moments, he laid there in pure bliss, letting his tired body rest from the long, hard week full of work. But, it was interrupted by Atlas, who came trotting in and nudged Troy's cheek with his snout, making him groan as he started rousing himself from his slumber. Atlas nudged his master once more and made Troy groan once more, "One minute," Troy mumbled into his pillow, Atlas patiently putting his head down on Troy's pillow, looking at him sleep. A moment later, Troy's eyes opened and he looked at his dog, his ears perking up and he made a soft noise as Troy reached out and scratched behind his ears. "Good boy," Troy smiled and kissed Atlas's snout before getting up and out of bed. Once he got dressed, he headed on downstairs and found Natalia with Atlas's puppies, playing with them as they ran around her, trying to balance playing with her and playing with their siblings as well. They were so much like Atlas, they looked so much like him and they were all over the place. They were such friendly puppies, he was surprised the neighborhood kids hadn't run away with any of them yet, but he just guessed that Natalia would go all crazy Russian on their butts if a puppy went missing. The thought of Natalia flipping like that made Troy chuckle as he passed her, his hand moving through her hair. "Some of my colleagues are coming over soon to pick up some of the puppies." Troy said, heading off into the kitchen to grab the orange juice, bringing the carton to his lips. Though he loved every one of the puppies, he couldn't take care of them all, they didn't have enough time to.

It took two hours, but one by one, his colleagues came on by and picked up their puppy and left, taking about 13 of the 15 puppies, leaving the two twin puppies that looked like spitting images of Atlas with Natalia and Troy. Quirking his lips, he leaned against the kitchen counter and looked at Natalia and then to Atlas, seeing him cock his head to the side in question. Biting his lips, Troy pushed off of the counter and wrapped his arms around Natalia, holding her back to his chest, his chin resting on her shoulder. "Why don't you go get dressed to go out? Lets take Atlas to the park." He smiled and watched Atlas do a few spins, his tail wagging wildly as he started panting in approval, his puppies confused, sat up on the couch and cocked their heads, their ears perked forward curiously as they watched their father freak out. Once Natalia was ready, Troy grabbed Atlas's leash and hooked it on his collar, hearing him groan in protest, but once Troy grabbed the door handle, he forgot about it and started wagging his tail madly once more. As soon as Troy opened up the door, they were out the door, Atlas didn't wait at all and simply tugged Troy out of the door, across the porch and down the steps, almost causing him to trip and fall. "Wait Atlas!" Troy shouted, tugging on Atlas's leash hard enough to make him sit down. Reaching into his pocket, he felt around, making sure he had his keys and a few other things, smiling once he made sure everything was there. Smiling, he turned and looked back at his flat and waited for Natalia to come on out. The two puppies needed to stay inside, they had to learn how to be alone for a few hours and that they had to know that they weren't always going to be home with them like they had been for so long. Hopefully Natalia wouldn't drag them along, poor things would be so overwhelmed at the park, there were always so many dogs there, Atlas was barely able to control himself there. Plus, Troy wanted to keep this very personal, he wanted only his love and his best friend there for what was about to happen.

I WANT YOU LAYING IN THE LOVE I HAVE TO BRING
i'd do anything to be your everything

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Natalia woke up early, just after the sun started to rise. She was roused by the chirping of the birds outside the window and she blinked her eyes open, a small smile crossing her face. It seemed that everyday was so bright, so warm and comforting. Of course, it didn't hurt at all that she'd been sharing a bed with Troy for the past several years. He always seemed to be warm and she always felt comfortable with him by her side. She turned to her side, lifting her head and resting it on her hand, her eyes grazing along her boyfriend's bare back, the small smile widening slightly. Since the day she had worked up the courage to ask him out, it seemed as if the days got better and better. Some might think it weird that a girl would ask a guy to date her, but Nat wasn't entirely the most ordinary of girls. Truth be told, when it came to oddities, Nat was pretty close with Troy. Of course, no one was as strange as Troy was, but that was why she loved him so much. He wasn't like every other guy she'd ever met, he was different, and she liked that. She pressed a light kiss against his shoulder, then turned to roll out of the bed, being quite so she didn't wake him up. Her bare feet padded along the floor and her fingers brushed Atlas's head as she walked out of the room. She made her way down the stairs and towards the little pen that she and Troy had set up for the several puppies that Atlas had. She smiled at them, giggling a bit as they yipped at her and wagged their tails. She opened the pen up, letting them all run out and around her. She sat herself in the middle of the floor, trying to play with them all at once. She knew some people Troy knew were coming to pick up most of them that day, so she wanted to get in as much play time as possible. She loved every single one of those puppies and wanted to keep them all. But, as Troy had told her, she knew that they didn't have the time to take care of all of them. They were both working at the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. They could put in long hours some days and it just wouldn't be fair to the puppies. That didn't make her want them any less, though. She grabbed a few toys and tossed them along the floor, watching with glee as a few of the puppies chased after them. Oh, it was going to be so quiet without them, but it really was for the best.

As she played, Natalia heard Troy's footsteps coming down the stairs. She looked up as he walked into the room and raised an eyebrow when he started chuckling. Holding about six puppies in her lap, she glared playfully at him. "I don't know what you're laughing at, but if its at me, I think I might be insulted!" Her mock glare turned into a smile, though, as Troy's hand brushed through her hair as he passed. She loved when he touched her, even just simple things like that. When he said that his colleagues were going to be there soon, she turned herself around, the puppies still in her lap, the others pouncing around her, and pouted at him. "I don't want them to leave!" She picked up one and nuzzled her cheek against its head. "They're just too cute!" He didn't have to say anything, she knew why it was best, but she was going to complain anyway. Sure enough, one by one, the puppies were taken, except for two that looked just like Atlas. She was glad not all of them were gone. She loved animals, thus her career choice. She used to have a cat, Nika, but the poor thing died quite some time ago. She missed her darling cat, but Atlas and his puppies were more than enough to keep her entertained. Nat stood, staring out the window as the last person left, a mixture of sadness and happiness in her heart. She would miss them, but she knew they were in good hands. A smile came to her face as she felt Troy's arms wrap around her and she leaned against him as his chin rested on her shoulder. At his suggestion, she smiled wider and turned around, wrapping her arms around his neck as she gave him a quick but firm kiss. "Sounds like a great time. I'll be right back." She let him go and turned to head back up the stairs, narrowly missing Atlas during one of this spins. She chuckled and went back up to the bedroom, searching for something to wear.

Once she was cleaned up and dressed, she headed back down and watched as Troy clipped the leash to Atlas's collar. A laugh tore form her throat as the dog nearly dragged Troy out of the house. They were a great combination, really. She left the flat after them, locking the door as she exited, then followed. She left the puppies where they were, knowing that it would be too much of a hassle to bring them, then skipped forward, catching Troy's hand in hers as she did, her other clutching a frisbee she had brought along for Atlas to play with. The weather was warm and beautiful and Nat swung hers and Troy's hands as they walked, physical expression of her happiness. It seemed she hadn't aged a day mentally since graduating from Hogwarts, but she didn't care. She had a young heart and she loved who she was. When they reached the park, Nat let go of Troy's hand and ran out into an open field. She waited for Troy to get Altas off of his leash before she flung the frisbee, letting it fly. When he caught it and brought it back to her, she repeated the cycle, getting a kick out of playing with Atlas. She had always had a fondness for animals. The highest marks she had in school was in Care of Magical Creatures, and it was her love and interest of it all that she started working for the Ministry in that particular department. It was amazing and she loved every moment of it.

PAST AND PRESENT -- THEY DON'T MATTER
NOW THE FUTURE IS SORTED OUT.

-----------------------------------
When they reached the park, Troy unhooked Atlas's leash and watched his dog run free, doing little circles before running out in a straight line in order to chase the Frisbee Natalia had thrown. A few times Atlas did this, running wild throughout the park, trying to get the damn circular object that was magically flying through the air. Laughing, Troy clapped his hands and Atlas trotted right over to him, sitting down right on his feet, smiling as Troy wrestled the Frisbee from his jaws. Slipping his hand into his pants pocket, Troy pulled out a small black box and slipped it into Atlas's collar. He didn't seem to mind it much, just wanted a pat on the head before he got up, wagging his tail happily as he waited for Troy to throw his Frisbee again. Troy wound up his arm and let it rip, throwing the Frisbee as hard as he could, seeing it soar into the sky and head right for Natalia. Atlas didn't waste any time in chasing the damn thing down, he ran like a mad man after it, barking when it hit the grass before Natalia's feet. He ran right up to her and did a lap or two around her, his tail wagging waiting for her to pick up the Frisbee. Where Natalia was standing, she could see the small black velvet box in Atlas's collar. When at last she grabbed it, Troy started to make his way towards them, a smile on his face, his hands slipping into his pockets. It wasn't the most traditional way to propose, but he had wanted this to be something that was special to them. Such as taking out the dog to walk. To some people it wasn't, but they both loved animals so much, love Atlas more than anything, so this was the perfect way for him to propose and have it mean something great. Hopefully this would really put a smile on her face, he wanted to see her happy since she didn't look to happy after the puppies were taken to their new homes. She had gotten so attached to them, she really did love each of them and it killed Troy to see her so beat down over them.

When she opened the box, a ring sat in-between the two dark velvet pillows, shining brightly as the morning sun hit it. All Troy could do was smile as he watched the light dance across Natalia's gorgeous face. She looked so beautiful, so happy and Troy felt his heart starting to warm up, so happy that he could see her smile. Slowly, he ran his hand over Atlas's head and he looked Natalia right in the eye, his smile growing. "Marry me?" He asked, the right corner of his mouth tugging up for a lopsided smile for a second before falling back to his usual, soft, happy smile. Many of his friends had said he was taking his sweet ass asking Natalia a question that should've been asked as soon as they got out of school. A few thought that he had waited too long, many guys at work felt that if he did ask, she'd say no since he had waited too long. All he did was laugh at them, he knew that whenever he was ready, Natalia would be as well. He had waited all these years since he hadn't wanted to run into things, he didn't want to rush into things and then have one of them get hurt, he wanted to know what he was doing and not just screw it up and have it all come crumbling down. The time they had spent together had shown him that they could both stand being with each other, they could live under the same roof and be perfectly fine. Plus, they were handling Atlas's puppies well, and they had dealt with having Atlas pretty well too, so he knew that if they were going to have kids, they were going to be ok. All this had just been his way of making sure he didn't hurt Natalia, all of this time he took just living with her and being her boyfriend was just his way of making sure she could still love him. And people said he wasn't smart, he had done all of this for her and he felt that they were both ready for this, they both wanted this.

I WANT YOU LAYING IN THE LOVE I HAVE TO BRING
i'd do anything to be your everything

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Natalia laughed as she watched Troy pry the frisbee from Atlas. They were such an amusing pair, really. Man, Nat could remember when Atlas was just a puppy. He had been so tiny, like the puppies that had gotten taken away that day. It saddened her, as she really had grown quite attached to them, but she knew they were going to good, caring families who would take care of them, so that helped a lot. Nat didn't know if she could handle any of them going to someone she knew would neglect them. If they did, she would be sorely tempted to steal them back. As it was, she knew Troy trusted these people, and she trusted Troy, so there you go. And they had a couple left from the litter, so it wasn't like she'd never get to play with any puppies again. Which, it was pretty much a guarantee that she would be doing that as soon as they got home. Her large smile melted into a softer, more loving one as her eyes settled from Atlas to Troy. How long had they been dating now? Several years, she knew that much. And they had been such good friends before then. To be perfectly honest, when Nat was told to just ask Troy out herself, she had been really hesitant for a couple reasons. One, she knew he liked someone else and didn't know if he felt anything for her besides a friendship. Two, she didn't want to risk destroying the friendship that they had. It was so unique, and she didn't want to ruin it. But she had gone with it, sucked up her courage and asked him. And now look where they were. Living together, sharing a bed, having a perfectly happy life. She couldn't ask for more.

Well... she could. Natalia had always wanted to get married. It was pretty much every little girl's dream to pick out a dress and walk down the aisle. At that point in time, her and Troy were not married. But if it came down to if she would choose a married life over being with Troy, she'd choose Troy, hands down. Marriage was a symbol, really. One that she wanted, but Troy was more important to her than a ring. Of course, if he asked, she wouldn't say no. But that was the main word there: if. Nat watched as Atlas ran back to her, laughing as he ran around her, wagging his tail, wanting her to pick up the frisbee. She bent down to get it, but when she did, she noticed something in the dog's collar. Dipping her eyebrows in curiosity, she forgot the frisbee and went to take the small, black box out of his collar and straightened back up. Was that what she thought it was? No, it couldn't be.... could it? She opened it up and inside, there was a stunning ring. Her eyes widened and she looked up to Troy, watching him near her with a small smile on his face. Her mind was in a whirl as she tried to figure out if this was really what Troy was doing. Then he asked his question, two little words that sent tears streaming down her face and a large smile to break out across her lips. She moved herself around Atlas, launching herself at Troy, wrapping her arms around his neck. She could barely contain the happiness that was flooding through her. Her entire body shook, feeling like this was a dream, but knowing it wasn't, and that just made her happiness skyrocket. "Yes! Yes, of course!" She pulled back and handed the box back to Troy, wanting him to put the ring on her. She couldn't be more excited right then. And it was the perfect way to propose. She didn't want an expensive dinner or a weekend on a yacht. She didn't want an airplane flying overhead with "Will you marry me?" trailing behind it. No, just there, in the park, playing with Atlas... that was the best way to propose that she could think of. It was spontaneous and there was no way she could have guessed. It was perfect.

PAST AND PRESENT -- THEY DON'T MATTER
NOW THE FUTURE IS SORTED OUT.

-----------------------------------
Troy's lips pulled into a huge smile as Natalia nearly shouted her answer, his ear reveling in the fact that she had said yes, his heart starting to beat faster out of pure excitement. He was going to marry the girl of his dreams, and though it had taken him years to get to the point he was ready for marriage, he was glad he hadn't rushed into it. Things do get better with time, like wine, or so his father had always said. Apparently women were like wine as well, but Troy couldn't see the reason as to why since he had tried to see how the hell they were linked. He had concluded that it was a bunch of bullshit since women didn't taste like wine, but you could get drunk off of their company, in more than one way. Anyways, he was so happy that she had agreed, his mind was spinning, doing flips inside of his skull. All he could do was grin like a fool and beam at Natalia, so happy he was out of it. When she handed him the box, he blinked and stood there for a second, looking down at it blankly. "Oh!" he gasped when he realized what he was supposed to do and slipped the ring out of the box and placed it on Natalia's finger, sliding it all the way to the base smoothly. "It looks fantastic," He smiled at her, his eyes drifting down to her ring, which was sparkling in the sunlight. God, she looked so happy, and that radiance just made her look even more gorgeous. Troy could feel his heart beating even harder in his chest as he looked at her, so happy that she was going to be his wife. He was going to spend the rest of his life with her, and he was looking forward to every second spent by her side. For years he had been getting himself prepared for this, and he was ready now, he wanted it now more than ever. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her into a tight hug and buried his face in her hair, breathing in deep as her arms went around his neck, smiling still as he held his new fiance, so happy he had her.

Gently, he placed a kiss on her neck, his hands running down her back as his eyes closed, holding her close as he let everything sink in. He was going to be a husband to the most wonderful woman on earth, he'd be committed to her forever, and he was really excited about it. Already he was aching for the weight of a gold band on his ring finger. He wanted to see it glisten in the sun light and be his pride and joy. He never thought he'd ever be this excited to get married, but he knew Natalia was the one, she was it, there was no one else but her for him. They had been together since their sixth year, there was no chance that he was going to turn his back on her and forget everything that they had been through, forget all the feelings he had for her. There was no doubt that he loved Natalia, he loved her more than anything in the entire world and would do anything for her, she knew that. So much love just lead him to want to get married, to really express to her how much he loved her. Slowly, he let her go and cupped her cheeks with his hands, studying her eyes for a moment before placing a very gentle and tender kiss on her lips. "I love you Natalia," He smiled as he spoke, his voice soft and calm, his brows pulling back as his smile got wider. "Now, shall we go home and inform the puppies of the news? Maybe owl Ophelia?" He smiled and slid his hand into hers, pulling her along, Atlas following along behind them. When they got back home, Troy pushed the front door open and was greeting by the happy barking puppies, yipping as they ran around his and Natalia's feet. "Guess what? we're getting married!" Troy exclaimed as he picked up one of the puppies, holding it up to his face, its tongue slipping out and licking him on the tip of the nose. "Ahh, good boy," he laughed softly and put the dog on down, turning to Natalia, placing his hands on her hips. "Wanna go tell everyone or wait?" He asked, tilting his head to the side a bit questioningly.

I WANT YOU LAYING IN THE LOVE I HAVE TO BRING
i'd do anything to be your everything

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Nat's lips pulled into an even wider smile as she watched Troy slide the ring onto her finger. She could barely process that this was happening. How long had she wanted this? How many times had she pictured kissing Troy for the first time after being married while standing at that alter? He was her everything, the reason she breathed. She wanted to be with him for the rest of her life, no matter what that meant, but now that she knew that a wedding was on its way, it just seemed so much better. Her eyes stayed on the ring a bit longer, fascinated with its presence on her finger. The metal felt good around her finger, like it was made to be there. And she didn't doubt that it was. It was, after all, hers now. And it would never leave its spot. She looked up at Troy, giving him a loving smile when he said it looked fantastic. It really did, didn't it? She once more wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his neck, trying to fight back the urge to cry in complete happiness. "I love you," she whispered to him, her lips pursing as she kissed him. There were so many things that needed to be done, so many things to start preparing for, but they could start working on those things later. Right now, she just wanted Troy to know how much this meant to her. She just wanted to spend some time in his arms and thinking of him as her fiance.

When Troy suggested they go home and tell the puppies the good news, she smiled widely and nodded, grabbing his hand before tugging him out of the park. "Oh, Pepper's going to be so excited. I bet you anything she'll want to help out." Nat chuckled as she thought of her sister. It had taken Pepper awhile to get used to Troy, but once she did, she grew quite a liking to him, much to Natalia's glee. Pepper had always been very important to Nat, she always wanted to take care of her and be there for her and the last thing she wanted was for her sister to hate someone she loved so much. Luckily for her, Pepper grew to liking Troy, bringing Nat much relief. Once they reached the house and Nat watched as Troy told the puppies the news, she giggled in delight and turned toward him when he asked if she wanted to tell everyone now or wait. She stepped closer to him, wrapping her arms around his neck, and kissed his chin. "Let's wait. That's a lot of people to tell and right now, I just want to spend time with you." She moved her lips up to his, kissing his mouth softly. Taking hold of his hand, she tugged him towards the sofa and sat down on it, pulling him with her. Her lips once more met his and she flung a leg over his knee, making herself comfortable. She lifted a hand, running it through his hair as she kissed him. Natalia was so in love with Troy, had been for years, and she wanted nothing more than to celebrate this occasion by just being there next to him.
