Title: Artworks of Invader G'rr
Description: Anime/Manga & Original/Fanzine Art

Invader G'rr - August 26, 2005 05:45 AM (GMT)
This is G'rr's thread where G'rr posts his previous Anime/manga fan artwork, Anime/Manga original artwork and hopefully new fan/original anime/manga artwork as well. All G'rr need you to do is check it out & tell G'rr what you think. G'rr won't post all of them at once. Just a couple per post. (Problems with photobucket :( )

So without further adieu...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off is G'rr's early spin-off of Starwars and Ranma 1/2. This is STARWARS 1/2

user posted image

Ranma Saotome as Luke Skywalker
Akane Tendo as Princess Leia Organa
Ryoga Hibiki as Han Solo
Nabiki Tendo as C3PO
Kasumi Tendo as R2D2
Genma Saotome/Panda as Chewbacca
Soun Tendo as Obi Wan Kenobi
Happosai as Darth Vader
Tatewaki Kuno as Lando Calrissian
Kodachi Kuno as Lando's assistant
Cologne as Master Yoda
Mouse as Boba Fett
Dojo Destroyer as Jabba the Hutt
Ukyo Kuonji as Jabba's dancer
Shampoo as Ewok princess
Dr. Tofu as Emperor Darth Sidius

G'rr sent this fan artwork to Animerica Magazine before Y2K.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next is a fan art of one of G'rr's favorite Cartoon-Cartoons...

THE POWERPUFF GIRLS

G'rr just like to draw his anime version of them, that's all... ^_^

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally to end this first post are original artworks of G'rr revolving around a story he come up with. What if StarTrek-like story happening right now in our midst but instead of a starship, a crew of a minute alien race embarks on a journey that no one from their kind has gone before to live a life a human in a human-like ship! G'rr has no title yet but this is what the ship looks like:

The Ship

These are some rough sketches of what the crew & the ship looks like:

The Crew & the Ship

The one sitting in the chair is the captain.

And this is a skid G'rr made. An action scene if you will... B)

The Ship Action-Scene

The girl being rescued is actually the future leading lady... :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's it for now. After G'rr has inputed some more pics into photobucket, G'rr will post again with more. Until then... Thanks... :P

G'rr's gotta go. Thanks again! :P

lambchopsil - August 26, 2005 06:12 AM (GMT)
I have some questions. What can that ship do? Can it only do normal human things? Or, does it have special powers/weapons/etc? And, are you going to do some Negima pics?

Seraph - August 26, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
G'rr...you absolutely fantastic alien! Those are great.

@Chris: I'm not sure if my advices will be as useful as G'rr's but trying to copy some characters from different mangas. It will be great practise. Then try to start drawing them from your memory and develop your own style.

The Ship is just like the Enterprise but unlike the Enterprise which acts like a spaceship, the Ship acts like a human... well, more than a human - a super human, if you will. It's like the ones you see on The Matrix (not the Neo-type, mind you). It can leap very high, strong, agile, enhanced senses, and the like. No projectiles of course, in order to avoid exposure. And besides, it's a ship for exploration...

They're there to explore/observe/learn/experience human culture in all of its aspects.

And of course just like in Star Trek they encounter other "SHIPS" used by different races. Some ships are not human-type like theirs. Some are animal-type. It depends, most of it are still in G'rr's head. :P

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA STAR WARS 1/2, PURE COMEDY GOLD.

Man, you rock. For that alone. That was awesome. I actually laughed out loud at that. And wow, you're awesome at drawing. YOU should do the AQS webcomic!

lambchopsil - August 26, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
With characters from AQS? What about G'rr the Alien, Aquastar the Chief, Captain Obvious the Captain, Seraph the Angel, Silva the Mutated Gorilla......List goes on and on......

Thanks. :P That idea has crossed G'rr's mind before. :D Planning on, as a start, a scene in the AQS Bar where majority of the members relax, drink, eat & talk about stuff. The only thing G'rr isn't sure about is how to draw the male members who uses female anime/manga characters as their avatar & sig... -_-

Maybe G'rr can get a better profile from the "Who's Who?" thread... ^_^

Actually, what Seraph advised you is how G'rr started but this how G'rr did it. But you gotta have the right materials...

First is the paper... NEVER EVER USE OSLO PAPER!!! They suck big time!!!! The texture of the paper get's easily ruined when you apply an eraser. The best paper by far is typewritting paper!!! Next is the pencil you're using. Use a mechanical pencil with a thin lead. It trains your hand to draw more lightly on the paper coz the lead breaks easily if you use too much stress. Last would be your eraser. Have you ever heard of a kneaded eraser? It a soft clay-like eraser in which it absorbs the lead when you rub it on the drawing instead of the conventional rubber erasers which rubs off everything and ruins the texture of the paper. A kneaded eraser also allows you to reach and erase those hard to reach places on your drawing you want to get rid off by molding the shape of the eraser to adapt to the spot you wanna erase. ;)

Now that you have the proper tools, let's draw...

Of course, you're a huge fan of Negima or Love Hina, right? Try to copy a character as closely as possible. Let's say for example, Negi Redfield... look for a good picture of him, no action pictures please - preferably poses of his face. Start with the:

1. 3/4 views of the left & right,
2. next the left & right side views,
3. and finally the front view. Why? It's because the left & the right features of the face should be symmetrical with each other, which is hard to master if you're not familiar with the first two views yet.
4. the back view is optional but you would have to do eventually but not right now...

There are some artist like Mush who likes drawing the face by starting with the shape of his face first which is the conventional way to do it but G'rr usually begins with the eyes; then the shape of the face; then the ears, nose, mouth; finally the hair.

After that: practice a lot until your body & mind gets really really familiar with how you draw the character's face. Of course, this is in collaboration with the other pictures you have of Negi like expressions, other views, poses, etc.

Once you have mastered his face, next comes the body...

The body is really complicated. Usually G'rr copies a lot of the pictures of the character till G'rr familiarizes with how they look like. G'rr also uses the conventional way on how to draw anatomically - like Mush (you can PM him later for tips).

That's probably it... :P

Just remember, draw lightly so if you make a mistake, you can easily rub it off.
And practice, practice, practice... which G'rr needs to do once G'rr gets the time to do it. :D

lambchopsil - August 27, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
What a long post G'rr. No wonder it took you like 30 minutes. Several things wrong with it like grammar/spelling. But I don't care. What I do care about is this:

For this paragraph, change Negi Redfield to Negi Springfield. Just telling you.

Good job on those tips though. Good for any novice artist.

NOTE: You want to post this in the "Rules/FAQs/Updates" forum? This is a good FAQ for beginning artists.

*LOL* OMG! you even have to say that??? yeah till now I usually do face shape first .

------------------------------------------------------------
@Chris : make sure to get 1 certain model for the practice, if you choose like (i.e. Negi / Konaka / Takamichi) get ONE model to practice first, like G'rr said take it easy on it.

Its bout determination and practice, NEVER practice if you gotten a bad mood it will definetly ruined your practice. ALWAYS set time/schedule you want to draw IN PEACE, a good atmosphere helps (listen to fav anime song is good too)

Again look at the mangas : Pose, facial experssions, clothes.

For now try practicing the face first: front, side, back, semi side view.

Hey Invade G'rr can help me out with coloring? I'm having trouble with skin and putting lighting reflections on hair (specifically black). So, can u help me out?

Invader G'rr - August 28, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
Use orange for the skin like G'rr does... but it'll be tricky. Your hands should be as light as feather... let G'rr explain...

Before you start coloring choose a light source. No, not a light so you can see the image but imagine that the character you're trying to draw is right in front of you... The only reason you see that character is because of the light it's bouncing back from it? But where's the light coming from? It could be anywhere... Well you don't have to worry the two most common light sources are from 1.) the upper-front left and 2.) the upper-front right. Once you have established this, then you'll know how to color the skin.

If you're trying to color a fair-skinned character (male or female), apply the pencil very lightly. Knowing where the light is coming from say the upper-front left, color the skin in a way
that as it goes closer to the light, the color fades and as it goes farther from the light, the more you see the shade of the orange. (but not that much!) Remember you're coloring a fair-skinned character - which means it's skin white.

It's like degrees of gradation, just like the one below:

http://www.bubblejet.canon.com.my/technolog/images/grad_com.jpg

Of course you're doing a fair white skin, you should start coloring farthest from the light and work your way towards the light applying less color as you go along. When it comes to darker skin tone on the other hand, just apply more... :P

This applies also to the reflection of the hair but in a different way. When using black colored pencil apply it in a way like you're putting strands of hair on the character's head for the first time... Meaning the pencil strokes should resemble the path of the hair on where they're actually going. They should fade upon approaching the reflection. This will give you an illusion of it looking like actual hair! Refer to the hairs you see on the mangas and how they make the reflections. ;)

Just like this one, although the image ain't a manga. At least it'll give you a picture of what G'rr's talking about.

http://www.sirjlawes.herts.sch.uk/faculties/art/Images/darvell/darvell-h3.JPG

That's it. G'rr hopes you understand what he said and how to do it. If you have any questions, PM G'rr again & he'll be happy to answer them for you as much as he can. ^_^

Getting back to the main topic. G'rr will post his other artworks by tomorrow.

Invader G'rr - August 29, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)

Coz there are little or no jobs here where G'rr lives that actually does this professionally... It's usually advertising firms, animation studios and that sort. The one that DOES has very little profit... But you may never know, maybe there might be a major company that are looking for artists to do mangas... and maybe G'rr will eventually join them, once he wakes that urge within him to take a pencil and draw again... -_-

SENSHI
MALE    SHINIGAMI
WEAPONS: Zanpakuto
- Okoridase, Kaenhime.
APPEARANCE:
Short, messy, brown hair (Very much like Ein from Riviera, now that I think about it. No wonder I like him so much, he's so like... me). Grey eyes. Slim and sinewy, but still moderately filled out. Average height.
CLOTHING:
Standard Shinigami robes, has Kaenhime tucked into the obi, like so many others.

Meh, that's pretty much it. BTW, I'm right-handed, so have the zanpakuto on the left side. Looking forward to the result.
Thanks Senshi for the description... Is the guy you're referring to look like this?...

http://images.modblog.com/template/modblog/Zanpakuto/images/logo.gif

G'rr can probably draw him if he's the one... -_- but don't know what a Kaenhime looks like. You sure you got the correct spelling on this weapon?

Senshi (Discontinued) - September 1, 2005 01:52 PM (GMT)
Nah, it's my own character, another death god that I made myself because I'm a hopeless Bleach fanboy. The only thing that's the same as Ichigo will be the shinigami robes he's wearing.

Kaenhime just looks like an ordinary katana with a handguard like Uma Thurman's katana in Kill Bill, only a little more oval.
