Proofreader/QCer Test

Post here to sign up as a student. I'll think up of some lessons once we get some people. If you already have some specific questions in mind, make a new thread and our proofreading team will answer or maybe some other person will help you

@other proofreaders: mind helping me with some lesson ideas?

EDIT: Signing up doesn't make it compelling to come every time. There won't be a lesson like every week or anything like that. There won't really be any homework either...This thread is basically to say you're interested in learning some things.

I'm not a proofreader, but perhaps something explaining its/it's and similar items.

meganeshounen - November 27, 2005 07:52 AM (GMT)
I'll lend a hand to lambchopsil. Just drop me any Q and I'll do my best on making a satisfying answer.

Lesson Plans? Hmm... that's pretty tough... How about the most usual changes in a raw script first?

Haesslich - November 27, 2005 08:53 AM (GMT)
Mark me as interested, though times do vary, with regards to what I can put in... but that's why portable computers were invented. :D

Still, I'd probably suggest a quick rundown on grammar, or at least on how to proofread based on context - which is one of the main ways one determines where the use of "it's" is correct, and "its" is not, and vice versa. Also, maybe a lesson on how to write notes addressing issues of this sort? Just saying 'Negi should've said "This ends here" instead of "This end here' is not as helpful as 'On page 18, Panel 5 where Negi stands in the heroic pose, the second word-bubble has "This end here" - shouldn't this be "This ends here"?'

Senshi (Discontinued) - November 27, 2005 09:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah, a good place to start would be the usage of apostrophes, the most whored out punctuation mark since the exclamation mark was introduced to online gaming.

There is no apostrophe in plural forms of words, idiots. Some people just can't seem to grasp that (I'm looking at YOU, M_V).

Chachamaru - November 29, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)

kijuru - November 29, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)

Shinobi_Janin - November 30, 2005 02:57 AM (GMT)

Negima_Sensei - November 30, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
id like to be a student.

Thousand~Master - December 3, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
I'll help if there is a question (especially if i'm already a proofreader) :P

aperson - December 10, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
This seems fun.

Everyone needs to learn some proper grammar, even on the internet. :)

fic7i0n411yr341 - December 22, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
I'd be interested in attending this proof reading school. Spent three years doing this under the guise of layout editor for my Highschool's newspaper and yearbook, so I guess it can't be that bad.

thenightsshadow - March 11, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
I guess I'll help out too. And, I learned from my mistakes with my previous test, so I feel that I'll be able to help out here and better.

the_one092001 - April 13, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I might as well. It seems like it might be fun/worthwhile. I'll help whenever I can, which should be relatively often. I'm a nitpicker when it comes to grammar/word usage/spelling, etc.

lambchopsil - April 13, 2006 06:39 AM (GMT)
Actually, check our main site for something that might interest you (Posted today)

the_one092001 - April 13, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)

lambchopsil - April 13, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
Well, if you want to help out, make a lesson...

jdennis007 - April 24, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Do I need to pass it by you first or can I just post it?

lambchopsil - April 24, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
Just post it. I'll just look at it and edit it if I have to.

<mystery> - June 5, 2006 05:20 AM (GMT)
Im signing in for lessons I will try my best

lambchopsil - June 5, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
You have anything specific you want to learn?

kct - June 5, 2006 06:48 AM (GMT)
I'm in, but I don't know what the heck I should be.

what to learn? well general stuff

lambchopsil - June 5, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
General stuff?...Then look in the other threads of this forum. There's about 8 lessons so far. As for more...you'll have to ask specific things. I don't do "general." Or, pm me on MSN, AIM, or IRC.

Nagi Springfeild - June 20, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
I guess I'll join too! Seems fun, hopefully :) :D B)

Pepe - July 12, 2006 06:26 AM (GMT)
Sign me up!
I have extremely good grammar, and I could already see some mistakes in some of the scanlated chapters of Negima...

kano - July 12, 2006 09:22 AM (GMT)
Hmmm ... should that be:
... and I can already see ... :)

QUOTE (kano @ Jul 12 2006, 04:22 AM)

Not necessarily, since I'm talking about the past tense....

Unless your'e pulling my leg, and saying that there will be mistakes if I become a proofreader...

Aw great, youv'e confused me!

Revised sentence:

I have extremely good grammar, and I already saw some mistakes in some of the scanlated chapters of Negima...

Yay....

And I'm halfway through the test....I have a feeling that that thing was typed on purpose....No single person, let alone a group would be able to make that much grammar mistakes in a single chapter....

foots......And exclamatory sentences ended with question marks.... And the words "also" and "too" in the same sentence....

That test scares me....

Like capitalization and punctuation? Oh joy!

Kai - July 13, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
Learning how to read is serious business.

Ryokosha - July 23, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
I am very interesting in this too so hope it is okay if I join in at times too?

lambchopsil - July 24, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Post in the thread with the poll in it.

jeomaxxters - September 2, 2006 10:18 AM (GMT)
I can help. One very important topic is subject-verb agreement... Many people get this wrong.

Spirits Having Flown - September 17, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
Ok then...I will sign up to become a proofreading student. :)

(*SHF signs up) :)

Iron_magister - September 17, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)

Maumzinha - November 29, 2006 04:13 PM (GMT)
I want to sign up...Can I yet?

chakurakid15 - January 15, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
I started doing the proofreaders test and what not to see if I could do it. By the time I got to page 5, I was already sick of reading something with so many obvious mistakes. No offense. It just sickens me to have to read that. I would hope when it's first translated that it would be more fluent and less BLARRGH!!! all over the pages. I can't handle that and I greatly pity/respect anyone who can on a weekly basis.
