What is commonly forgotten is that there is the center. (Representing either China, The yellow dragon or the yellow emperor)

Now what has a panda got to do with the Chinese dragon?!

The alternative emblem China uses to appear friendly than fearsome is the panda. (Yes they also realise the power of cute which explains their panda diplomacy.)

Also each of the 4 gods is associated with an element.

Byakko is metal, Suzaku is fire, Seiryuu is wood, Genbu is water.

But there is a fifth element in the Chinese elements which is associated with the center.

That element is earth.

Sara despite being an American has always been associated with China.

3. Sara wears Chinese buns and Chinese dresses (Cheong-sam, at the start of the Kanako arc and at the wedding.)

4. Finally Sara's parents are archeologists. Archeology is always associated with dirt or in this case earth , the fifth element.
