Title: RideBack
Description: BikeBots and a Bishoujo

kano - January 24, 2009 12:13 PM (GMT)
Found this subbed by Yoshi (1st Ep) 2 raws are out, Ep 3 shows on the 25th (it's 24th night where I am and in Japan also)
Infinite-Zero has 2 Eps already subbed.

No idea where the show is heading, but the 1st Ep was good.
Maybe it's gonna end up being an action show? Don't know.
But the Bishoujo seems to be almost the complete subject of the 1st Ep.

There is a new world order: GGP has seized control of the world (I get the impression that this is supposed to have been a good thing?) but the military has since taken over from them and the GGP appears to now be subject to the military and there is also some form of organised resistance.
It's about a girl who has just quit ballet (due to an injury) and has gone to college and at the beginning, accidentally gets involved with the RideBack club ... first time getting on and riding the bike bot, for her, was fun not fear!
Her ballet seems to have given her a very positive link with the feel of riding a BikeBack.

Not sure why she seems to always have that type of dress on in the OP/ED riding shots ... fanservice? lol

The bikes appear to often be CG drawn with the anime under and overlayed.

Another anime to add to my growing list of shows to watch this season ...
Hopefully it will keep itself on the list :)

Edit: OK after watching the 2nd Ep, I haven't got the political situation correct, udpated it above a bit.
But it's so far only a background part of the story.

SagittaMagica - January 29, 2009 12:27 PM (GMT)
Watched Eps 1 and 2...
Just gotta say... awesome!!

The visuals are fantastic, but the back-story is a bit confusing right now... Just have to sit and wait... I smell something like Rin being asked by the Military or something for her awesome RideBack Skills!

A fun trivia...
Ogata Rin is the name of the main heroine for Ride Back...
Ogata Rina is also a heroine in White Album...
Nana Mizuki Voices both of them!
Ogata Rin's mother is named Ogata Yuki; Yuki is Ogata Rina's friend in White Album...

Kota - January 29, 2009 12:50 PM (GMT)
Shouldn't this be in Action/Sci Fi? I'm planning to watch this.

kano - January 29, 2009 01:46 PM (GMT)
@Kota: Well - it starts with Rin doing ballet ... and she is pretty much the subject of Ep 1 :)
So I went for the Bishoujo theme.
Yeah that will probably change later - but no idea at this stage.

@SM: Nice collection of info there ... I didn't realise any of that correlation with White Album!

I've already watched a Chinese sub of Ep 3 ... OK not much better for me than a RAW but I didn't realise it was a Chinese sub until I watched it - lol
Military showing up a lot in Ep 3 ... now I need an English sub :)
OK this show is being subbed by all sorts of random groups!

Here's where I've got 1-5 so far:
Ep 1: AniYoshi (and they stopped at 1)
Ep 2 & 3: I-Z (they stopped at 3)
Ep 4: Frostii (downloading now - getting ok speed >250k)
Ep 5: Fansubbing Taken Seriously (downloading now - getting ok speed >250k)

Anyone wanting to watch it, just go to Tokyo Toshokan and look for it there :P

Sheesh, well as long as someone subs each episode ...

Edit: LOL in Ep4 "This isn't... part of the show right?"

Edit2: Ep5 at the end "What's wrong with me?" :) Absolutely nothing girl :D

SagittaMagica - February 17, 2009 08:54 AM (GMT)
I guess that is why all I saw were mere raws for the last week...

scorpiowolf - February 17, 2009 10:38 AM (GMT)
When I read the summary of this show before the winter season started I was expecting the bikes to turn into full-on exo-suits like the cyclones from an old Robotech(I watched the dub) series, what I got was motorcycles with arms. Seriously the premise of being able to take over the world with that as your main weapons is too much of a stretch for me(I can think of at least a dozen ways, easily, to take out this supposed invincible biker squad), implausible raging aside as long as the political aspect is kept to a "C" storyline the show's enjoyable.

kano - February 17, 2009 11:43 AM (GMT)
Well, reality isn't much of a draw-card for me in this sort of anime :D

Though, I'm not sure that the RideBacks were the reason the GGP was able to take over the world ... (and I'm still unsure of the world political and military situation in the show)

No, they made it clear in the first episode how the GGP were able to dominate the worlds Powers Using RideBacks...

I think it was during Ogata's performance(when she was establishing the story through her monologue)

Not only that, but with the tech on the show(those phones look like a b*tch to use correctly, what with those teeny-tiny # keys) we know international intelligence agencies would be monitoring the sells of existing weapons so its not like they can secretly amass a squadron of jets, helis, tanks, and other necessities of war such as I don't know, troops. And I doubt any country would sell them all those things and hope for the best, if all they had were those damn bikes a few smart bombs should have been enough to take care of the problem. I'm waiting for the reveal that the GGP is really the U.S., Britain, Russia, or some other superpower thats the only way any of this makes sense.

SagittaMagica - February 18, 2009 05:16 AM (GMT)
@scorpio:
I think that the GGP is a conglomerate of separatists from those nations you mentioned... Not those nations themselves... Just a "brotherhood" of these rebellious elements??

scorpiowolf - February 18, 2009 05:58 AM (GMT)
^ thats plausible, but if we expand that to include business factions on top of the military ones we'd probably be closer to the truth, but hell anime and logic can be oil and water sometimes :nani:

SagittaMagica - February 18, 2009 06:45 AM (GMT)
Hence I made "separatist" as a vague term... I also included top corporate individuals and the likes...

So what does the war and a failed ballet dancer with a knack for piloting a warmachine have to do with each other?? To be continued next episode...

And ... suddenly, Ep6 is out if you search TokyoTosho
Same people as I listed for Ep 5 in my earlier post of subbers.
Quite an active torrent also (1263 seeds 509 leechers)

Keitaro - February 22, 2009 10:58 AM (GMT)
I just watch eps 1 and 2........ I was speechless at her last move in the corner in ep 2.... that was wonderful.

kano - March 16, 2009 11:19 PM (GMT)
LOLs - the last few epsiodes ... how to turn a Bishoujo into a terrorist :)
Well, she's almost there ...

It was stated that the ridebacks were used to take over a critical military fortified castle.
Seemingly not implying that the ridebacks 'took over the world' rather they were instrumental in taking critical ground in the previous war.

SRSLY are up to Ep 9 (720p) at TT

This show still has my unrelenting attention :)

chaosprophettk - March 17, 2009 02:17 PM (GMT)
This show was surprisling good IMO! It didn't have the kindo of art that I liked but watched because the premises seemed a bit interesting. Glad that I did.

scorpiowolf - March 18, 2009 04:45 AM (GMT)
She kinda pissed me off blaming Goblin for her f**k ups, are the plant workers at fault every time someone downs a pitcher of Sam Jackson(let's see if anyone gets the joke and where it comes from) or a bottle of Jack then plows into something(phone pole, tree, playground full of kids, lol)? Hell no, it wasn't even his idea to let her ride the damn thing he just built it and gave it to the club.

Keitaro - March 18, 2009 05:59 AM (GMT)
just finished ep 9

I wonder if she'll end up joining the terrorist group O_o

kano - March 20, 2009 03:28 PM (GMT)
How to create a terrorist: ... brutally kill someone innocent they care about ... in front of them
Actually, I was a little shocked by that ...

kano - March 30, 2009 10:49 AM (GMT)
And finally we have Terrorist Ogata for the final episode.
I really can't see how they can actually win (and there is only one show left) - so I'm expecting everyone to die :)
chaosprophettk - March 31, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
Well with 12 it ends.. it was a good "Ride"... does it have an chance of having a sequel?

Unnn it does have a Manga. Completed with 10 vols. First volume was scanlated almost a year ago and nothing else after that. May give that volume a try later. The art looks nce but not as nice as the anime (that's one of the things I love in Negima... it's art is great and better then many animes... at least IMO).

kano - April 4, 2009 04:08 PM (GMT)
Actually, overall it was a good show from beginning to end.
Definite ending (yeah another of the few that have a proper ending) but it played clearly on the beginning ... it really was a Bishoujo show, with action, botbikes, war and death thrown in to trick everyone into watching it :D
I was always impressed with the quality of the backgrounds. Characters/foreground was average, the ridebacks were well drawn, but the backgrounds often had much detail to them that really impressed me.
I'd give it overall a 7/10 but certainly worth watching as a batch if you haven't seen it and if fight/gundam/ecchi anime isn't your only interest :)

scorpiowolf - April 5, 2009 04:13 AM (GMT)
I've had my issues with this series but I enjoyed it, its just too bad she never defeated her archenemy - bed head, lol.
