Title: Blaz Blue

I already played it. It feels like a mix of Arcana Heart and Melty Blood, rather than Guilty Gear
Kageho - March 7, 2009 04:36 AM (GMT)
I might buy it. If I'm going to spend 200$ on an premium stick, I might as well buy some games to get use of it.
CandycaneMang - March 7, 2009 07:34 AM (GMT)
I could get it for the 360 or the PS3, but I will probably it for the PS3.

2D ... why bother spending that much on the game?

Because Graphics don't make the game.

Feels like a toned down GG. I'm still getting it though.

Except Blazblue has the best graphics of any 2D fighter. The game is seriously gorgeous.
kano - If you don't like 2D fighters, then this game isn't for you (plays like a 2D fighter). Tekken 6 comes out soon after tho, you might like that if you like 3D fighters.
Red steel - It doesn't feel like GG at all to me when I play it. Which parts feel toned down?

I guess I kinda took it as GG because there were "bursts", RCs, and Jin/Ragna remind me of Ky/Sol.. kind of. I felt it toned down because there aren't any FRCs and the prorate actually goes down to 0. I'm not sure if you do less damage, but it does feel sort of toned down for me. And on some occasions, throws are escapable.
HeartNana - April 9, 2009 08:32 AM (GMT)
So you're saying because it's not Guilty Gear, it's toned down? Lol.
Kageho - April 9, 2009 11:50 PM (GMT)
Reason why it feels the same, is its made by the same guys. They broke away and made BlazBlue, or so I hear.
HeartNana - April 10, 2009 08:07 AM (GMT)
It's really not the same at all tho. It's got a few similar mechanics, but it also shares similar mechanics to Arcana Heart, Melty Blood, and other such games. It's a completely different game. You have to play it and see.

So I played some BB today at San Jose and this is like my 3rd time playin' it. The first two times i couldn't really get into the game because the limited selection of characters made it hard for me to choose on someone I like. Because of that distance, I originally wrote off BB as just another combo-friendly 2D fightin' game more like Arcana Heart with GG-like mechanics.
Today, I managed to find the BB machine empty allowing me to practice my ass off and go in-depth. I can say that I'm addicted to it now. The "recent" unlock of v13/NU finally provided me with a character I can enjoy playing (she reminds me of a MvC2 Spiral lockdown type with the ability to rushdown).
In my opinion, BlazBlue isn't like Guilty Gear at all. By comparison, GG seems more linear in character matchups because each GG character solely relies on the skill of combo'ing and utilizing specials. BB adds effects like Alucard's wind BS and Trigger's magnification to alter how various matches play out.
I always like to think that Melty Blood represents the easiest fighting game to pick up, while Guilty Gear takes the most dedication to master. BB fits comfortably in the middle leaning towards the easier side considering the small cast = lesser importance to learn everyone's shinanigans (though it wouldn't hurt considering that half the cast has shinanigans).
So I'm addicted to the game. Wish I can play it more to explore what I can do in the air (the game lacks a universal launcher-like move for easier air combos) as well as a complete movelist so i don't have to guess what half of Litchi (my side-character) moves do.
HeartNana - April 12, 2009 02:05 PM (GMT)
The easiest fighting game to pick up is Naruto 4 for the gamecube. That game is sooooo simple.
DOA is also really easy to get into. Smash Brawl is also easy to a degree.
And yeah one thing about BB is that every character combos SOOO differently. Many other games, characters have similar combos, but every character is so different in BB that you can't just pick up a character and combo really easily (except like, Ragna and Jin)
EvilLinkz - April 12, 2009 11:11 PM (GMT)
Definitely gonna try to pick this up... even if I don't own a PS3 or 360.
RedSteel - April 12, 2009 11:55 PM (GMT)
The only reason I feel fighting games feel the same is because I don't play many fighters outside of melee.
DJcream - July 6, 2009 08:53 AM (GMT)
Necro-ing the topic now that the game is out.
Anyways, after getting my feet wet in training mode, I've made the (potentially dumb) decision to switch my main from Nu to Tager. Even though I went from highest tier to lowest tier, I think I'm better suited for Tager since he caters to my play style has just about everything I wished Zangief had - answer to fireballs, normal command grab w/ invinsibility, magnetism to pull opponents closer.
Other crap I need to figure out is how to play SMART defense. If Akol's readin' this, I need some pointers on how to escape some common traps like Arakune's corner curse, Carl's clap loop (regular and grab versions) and random crap to look out for vs. Rachel. I'm also tryin' to find out typical Tao and Jin patterns so I can time backdashes during their strings to punish with command grab.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I also don't get why some people say that they'd rather get hit standing up vs. Noel than turtling low. Care for a pro tip?

It'd be nice if I had actually had a PSP.
Hoping for a PC version was too much. I'm sure you know why.
Anyways, I saw people playing Blaz Blue at a con (360 ver.), it looked fun to play and all, but a bunch of guys were too into it plus there was this one guy using the same character using the same combos winning every time. So I didn't get the chance to play.
Maybe I'll get a PSP for my birthday that's coming up... Gotta find an old one though... I'm sure you know why  .

i was under a rock between march and august game-wise, so i didn't know about BB until i stumbled upon a group of guys playing it at Quake-con that month (went there with my cousin, couldn't do much without a personal gaming pc though). i took note of the name and got Guilty Gear for my psp since i don't have a ps3 yet. This news makes my day.
TL;DR HOLY CRAP PSP VERSION GET

Hey Kota...
Its "Removed By User"
Kota - January 24, 2010 05:16 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I noticed. I've got it working, though, and it's pretty damned smooth. Everyone is talking about it in the fighting channels, too, so it's pretty cool.
kano - November 4, 2010 02:21 PM (GMT)
So I actually got this today :P
Calamity Trigger: It was apparently only released in Aus for the PS3 Mar 26, 2010 (even though it was out June last year in the USA)
Why'd I get it? Coz it was only $35 and included an arcade stick (Limited Edition PS3 version)
My son likes SSBB on the Wii so he hopefully will like this (and I can battle against him also)
Also means I now have 4 (different) controllers for the PS3 :)
Standard, FragFX, PS2 via adapter and now this one also.
I played it for 5 minutes ... yeah it's all anime'ish (including all the Japanese at the beginning)
So does anyone know why this game might be rated 'M' in Aus?
i.e. Sony/GameSpot/everywhere says "Suggestive Themes & Partial Nudity"
Just curious to find out before he plays it ... but I couldn't find anything myself ... though when a J anime says anything like 'Partial Nudity' it usually means a lot more than you'd expect in the west :)
Sayo's Guardian - November 4, 2010 10:09 PM (GMT)
I pretty much beat calamity trigger.
The only thing that may give the game mature rating is:
1)One cutscene where Bang assumes Noel to be male since she small breasts.
2)Noel getting jealous of Litchi`s well endowed breats.
3)Litchi having an obsession in putting Noel through various cosplay outfits.
4)Taokaka also calling Noel flat-chested.
5)12 rated swearing.
and thats pretty much it.
And yes I`ll be getting the sequel contunum shift when it comes out here in the UK.
And before any of yoy say anything YES I KNOW you americans have had the game for a while.
Question,
HOW THE BLOODY HELL do you beat Ragna in that mode where you fight everybody.
I just need to beat him to get platinum.
Tmoo - November 7, 2010 12:47 AM (GMT)
it's given the partial nudity note 'cause you can see noel's underwear if she does a certain move or something - or was it the cat girl? one of them does it. it's just a flash, but that's likely where they got it.
Sayo's Guardian - November 8, 2010 10:25 PM (GMT)
It was Taokaka the cat-girl but I really wasnt into it.
wish you could see their faces.
sigh.
