Title: Bakemonogatari
Description: Supernatural Monster Stories :)

kano - July 4, 2009 03:16 AM (GMT)
OK I've only seen the raw of Ep1, but with an opening shot of looking at a girls panties (Koyomi's incho - Tsubasa), I'm thinking that ecchi is the main thing on the mind of Shaft with this one :P
Hitagi:

IF the vampire history is part of the show (as shown in the OP) looks like there might be a lot of blood and gore also ... unless the 'OP' was just a prelude.

Gotta say, the animation so far is VERY high quality! Hopefully it will stay that way (and it's in 720p HD - no need to wait for a later showing in HD)
Being mistaken as a vampire can be painful :) And where was Hitagi carrying all that stuff :D

Koyomi was bitten and 'almost?' became a vampire but has (somehow - I couldn't work out how - but with Meme's help) become almost human again.
According to ANN: "Koyomi encounters different apperitions in a series of interconnected stories"
Koyomi has an older friend Meme who I guess helps him out as required?

Since the first show basically seems to be explaining everything (and it seemed to include all the vampire stuff) - and my Japanese is about the level of understanding a dozen spoken words ... I'll have to wait for the Sub to get an idea of what's going on :P

The ED's pretty plain ...

Edit:
OK, according to Wikipedia there's a bunch of light novels that started back in 2006 and are still being published - the last one was only a month ago and 2 more due next year.
Heh - looks like we have an Negima! Eva character in "Shinobu" :D

kano - July 7, 2009 10:55 PM (GMT)
Wow - 4 days later and still no subs ... though one group (ii) seem to think they'll have one on Thursday (which probably means 2 days from now ... even though it's Wednesday where I am and in Japan)
Hmm I thought this might be popular with the subs? (plenty of HQ raws out)

monkey2k - July 8, 2009 09:33 PM (GMT)
Subs by anon are out, but it's not sure to be quality work (will have to watch 1st), or even if it's going to be regular.
If better subs come out, I'll just reDL.

SagittaMagica - July 9, 2009 12:41 PM (GMT)
Im not sure if I should continue watching this or not, back when I looked at the Summer Lineup thread I thought it was some horror, psycho flick...

But, ecchi and vampires... Hmm, where have I heard that concept before?? :heh:

Anyways, gonna give this series a few more eps... And see where it goes!

kano - July 9, 2009 01:42 PM (GMT)
Well having subs corrected one misunderstandings I had :)
(I thought Hitagi's attack was coz she knew he was a vampire, not to silence him about her weight)
The dialogue also made my interest rise ...
It's well thought out so far ...
No doubt something will happen sooner or later that changes my mind ... but until then :)

kano - July 13, 2009 02:00 PM (GMT)
Well, firstly, the OP is completely weird.
As for the shower "game" ... yeah OK that seemed totally out of character.
The gaphics/animation of this episode sux compared to the first episode.
The scenes with live people instead of drawn characters was not good IMO - it just looks weird and like the animators were too lazy to actually draw.
Basically there was about 2 minutes to the story and then a whole lot of nothing else ... like they could have finished the crab story on the end of episode 1 :P
The dialogue was still interesting, but most of it seemed unnecessary.
Anyway, I'm hoping for the next episode to take a step back up to the quality of the 1st one ... hoping ... hoping ...
SagittaMagica - July 17, 2009 03:10 AM (GMT)
When Senjougahara made that 360...

I was.... picking up my jaw which dropped...
Even though I actually detest such animation styles (Zetsubo Sensei, Maria Holic Negima?! etc..) Though it is weird, I think I can hold on and watch this through...

kano - July 18, 2009 12:07 PM (GMT)
Warning - do NOT watch Ep 3 (raw) until subs come out! :P
The animation tells you NOTHING about the episode - lol
And they may be a while ... it's almost constant conversation
user posted image
All that discussion about murder and suspects and bad guys and everything definitely needs a translation :D
As for the other girl ... that is his sister isn't it?
Coz she doesn't really look exactly like his sister at the end of Ep 2 ...
Edit: sub's out ... dling ...

Edit2: OK, subs didn't help much either explaining what's going on :D LOL
Oh well - at least it's got an unexpected ending :)

monkey2k - July 20, 2009 12:16 AM (GMT)
Go get [gg]'s subs for ep3, it seems the [Superior] subs were total crap (from what I've heard).

Despite the Hitagi arc being over, a full half of this ep seemed to focus on her.
Not that I'm complaining, I love how she abuses Araragi, while seemingly teasing or even flirting with him at the same time.

Strange_One - July 24, 2009 02:43 PM (GMT)
Interesting. It makes me think of XXXHolic a little. In that series a subplot is that the main characters end up dealing with situations random people come to them with or they encounter - it falls behind in favour of CLAMP's story however.

So far it feels like this series executes it better by being focused around whatever issues that come up, while the style likely cuts down time and effort required, the slight surrealism I think actually works given the paranormal flavour of the series.

It haz a good flavour so far.

edit: lolwhut? some of the comments bloggers make. Stapler sex?

kano - July 24, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
I was trying to translate the name today ...

monogatari=story plain enough, but "bake" didn't fit ...

The best I could come up with was "Monster Bash" ... then I thought of the old song "Monster Mash" :)
(Bakemono=monster gatari=bang/clash ... but I guess that might be bakemononogatari?)

Afterwards I went and checked the wiki and it suggests it a joining of the words monster=Bakemono and story=monogatari i.e. monster story

Anyone read something otherwise about the name?

Strange_One - July 24, 2009 11:48 PM (GMT)
GG have gone with Ghostory

Which I think works :P

kano - July 25, 2009 12:11 PM (GMT)
WTH? LOL
Ep 4 has a new OP about the new character ...
I'm certainly gonna be impressed if they keep this up for each new character
(OP1 was Koyomi's history, OP2+3 was Hitagi, now OP4 is the snail)

As for the English - well they really got it wrong spelling PTA ... lol

Edit: and I should add ... it's clear that the dialogue is the most important part of this show ... even though the first Ep was drawn really well - they have chosen lots of quick to draw backgrounds and repeated them over and over for Ep3 & 4 ... but the mobile was funny anyway :)

Edit2: I fixed the thread title ...

Strange_One - July 25, 2009 01:57 PM (GMT)
Whyfor do you have a need to watch the raws? :eyebrow:

Well, their 'low effort' style does allow them to mess about with the OP. Which in itself would be refreshing.

And since you've read the wiki entry - I'm surprised you missed the bit that said it was a dialogue heavy show :P
Should a mod happen by, this should probably be moved to the 'other' section.

Whyfor do you have a need to watch the raws?  :eyebrow:

Well, it means I watch each show, I'm really interested in, at least 3 times instead of at least twice!
Once raw, ( previous Ep again before: ) once subbed
And it's not just watching the same thing over each time coz the raw is like seeing a preview and trying to work out what's going on, then I watch the sub and the 2nd time I watch the sub is a quick refresh before the new episode (and it's necessary coz I watch so many shows)
Yeah - I like my anime :D :D
Before I started watching anime in 2005/6, I was a sci-fi/fantasy fanatic, so of course plenty of anime falls directly under that heading already ... plus the rest :)

Anyways ... on topic ... actually, hmm, yeah I didn't think of that: since the last 2 shows have been pretty simple/repeated backgrounds that does give them that extra time for new OPs. Nice.

Edit: subs out ... dling ...

kano - July 26, 2009 07:55 AM (GMT)
OK I'll say it again. gg are a bunch of morons.
Why the hell do they keep leaving adverts in????

Strange_One - July 26, 2009 04:06 PM (GMT)
W00t! KnK FINALE COMMERCIAL!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And I think it's deliberate if it's only anime commercials and they sub some :P
  • GYAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! THE HYPERGENKILOLIKOOPITBUUUUUUUUURRRRRNNNNNSSSSS!!!!!
  • Heh heh~ If those are his thoughts then Tsundere-chan occupies much of the boy's thoughts~
  • I want to know what their Red and Black symbolises. They use it quite a lot.
  • Tsun tsun behaviour plus scenes of giving him 'the look' plus threatening DEATH aura when the bloke has a loli attached to him. Me not reading into that at all >.>
  • That kid is scary. So easily duped by gifts from strangers. Speaking of which - he gave her 10000 YEN?!?!?!?
  • Lol copy and paste carpark.
  • It's kinda like being lost in a sealed dimension hanging around that kid ne?
  • CHOMP. That kid is *&#@ing vicious!
  • Blue fruit.
  • However that guy must officially a child abuser
  • Tsundere-chan. IMO she's Kuudere what with the cold demeanor. Outward appearance and speech of the emotionless girl type. I'm saying not Yandere, given that her acts of violence seem generally rational if not particularly social.
  • ED is FLCL art style. It's Senjougahara again. Not reading into the lyrics. at. all... >.>
  • Nice art at the end. Do all players stop and display the last frame?
Edit: Fascinating. On review of the first episode - it shows all the arcs to come. There are 3-4 after the Snail - this a 13ish episode series?

There's a lot of untranslated text. I wonder if some crazy group later would translate it >.>

That discussion from about 17:00 onwards (not about the ghost) ...
OMG!
I soooooooo need a translation ... oh well just have to wait a day or few.
Well whatever it really means, hey how could Araragi not be glad how often she says 'Araragi-kun' to him :)

Oops - I didn't wait until after the credits. WTF? LOL

Edit: it's a 15 show series but only 12 to be on TV the last 3 on the web site (according to the wiki ...)

OK gg has 5 out (gg has no adverts this time - yay) - finally got to see that what I thought they were talking about was really true :)
Glad to see they seem to have sorted that out so early in the show ...
I guess since the show doesn't appear to be centred about their relationship - I'm glad they didn't drag it out.
As for the post-credit ending - awwww - everyone "lives" happily ever after :D :D
Strange_One - August 2, 2009 10:21 PM (GMT)
• "Your hand was pretty tasty."
  • "I'm one of the better-developed in my class." <= that entire segment was inappropriate but hilarious XD
She's seriously a chomping monster
  • FAMIRY
  • "you smell like another woman." - Scent is an essential factor.
  • Dammit - I love the verbal jousting between the official couple. (Guy takes all the stabbins of course)
  • It is true - If you don't want to do something you'll find an excuse. Maybe the kind of story I'm drawn to is the concept of taking something simple and building a story around it.
  • That has got to be one of the greatest confession scenes ever. The scene didn't even look like a confession.
  • Considering how thoroughly in control and well articulated she is - She has got to be a Kuudere. Especially if she keeps verbally stabbin' teh boy from now on.
  • I seem to be weak against strings. I like the Piano BGM at the end.
  • I'm getting seduced by the ED too.... -_-
  • The snail/cow appears to be haunting her first taste'n'touch ;)
Despite its critics and looking like it was created on a shoestring budget, this is a good series. The story feels like it was well delivered and consistently so in the five episodes I've watched. Despite much less apparent effort, so far to me this is the best anime of the season - perhaps the year or beyond.

Kano - Given that she has a reason to hang around more now, perhaps the "not being centred around their relationship" comment is... premature? :D

edit: wait a sec. I just realised something. Shinobu the ruined vampire. Doesn't that mean she's the one that munched Araragi?

kano - August 2, 2009 10:54 PM (GMT)
Actually - my comment about happily ever after was as much for me as well.
When the sudden realisation hit me that she had died and how it happened (rather than just being a case of "yeah she's a ghost") it was rather sad all of a sudden :(

As for their relationship - what I mean is that it's not gonna be another Toradora or such where the whole show is really just about how they end up together and even better, in this case, they may have already sorted out the basics of that already :)
Instead it may have a lot of back and forth between them, but not a melodrama going on about who he likes and deciding that ... I guess, after Toradora, I have become a bit jaded about that subject in anime ...

Strange_One - August 2, 2009 11:23 PM (GMT)
Daaaaawwww *pat pat*

Ah, you mean centred around how they get together. Indeed the standard in most stories appears to be all about the journey there and nothing about after =_=

Edit: Ah. my obsessive compulsiveness IDed it. The piano piece at the end was a piano version of Staple Staple. Senjougahara's theme after all.

kano - August 8, 2009 03:04 AM (GMT)
Damn - Ep 6 sux big time.
The first 2 minutes where going so well ... after 3 minutes I started to wonder ... then it continued for the rest of the damn show!
Why do they really need a summary (with tiny amounts of new stuff thrown in) after 5 episodes?

SagittaMagica - August 8, 2009 03:34 AM (GMT)
tsk tsk tsk...

Law of Supply and Demand my dear Kano-kun! :P
With Senjougahara's popularity sky-rocketing, the demand rose, wise-producers would withheld the supply...... I think :P

Strange_One - August 8, 2009 11:32 AM (GMT)
Hmm... the arrangement looks messy to me. Is MBS another japanese broadcaster?

What is the 6th episode and what is the "Special Progam"? -_-

kano - August 8, 2009 11:55 AM (GMT)
Probably the same thing - the 6th Ep is a summary up to Ep 5 (why?)
"Special Recap" on TT is probably the same thing.

Strange_One - August 8, 2009 12:53 PM (GMT)
 I doubt it as apparently they're broadcasting 6 after the Special program...

kano - August 8, 2009 01:35 PM (GMT)
Ah OK - if you got the name "Special Program" from a TV guide/program then I guess it's just some other TV show before Ep 6.
I thought you meant from TT (coz on TT Ep 6 is also under the name "Special Recap")

Strange_One - August 8, 2009 04:00 PM (GMT)
<_< I Should have just done this...

From the rather good gg

From the official webpage.

This week: Episode 5 will air.
Next week: Episode 6 will air only on MBS. A “Special Program” will air on the other stations.
Week after next week: Episode 6 will air again on the stations had a special.
Week after the week after next week: Episode 7 will air.

tl;dr = There is no new episode airing August 14th/15th, don’t expect any subs to be released.

PROTIP: MBS AIRS 26 HOURS AFTER TOKYO MX.
That said I'm not sure if what you got was actually episode 6.

QUOTE (kano @ Aug 8 2009, 12:33 PM)
OK - well what I got is the "Special Recap"which may or may not be Ep 6 (but it was called Ep 6)
I guess we'll find out if anyone gets the MBS version and subs it.

There's two raws on TT by one group and they called the first one "Special Recap" so I guess that 2nd one may be your "MBS" Ep 6 ... hopefully :)
I can't download it for another 6 hours though.

Edit: D'oh yeah it says MBS in the filename - so it most likely is :)

Edit2: Well - yep the MBS one is a new episode (monkey) ... that's good and bad ... good: a new episode! (Yay) - bad: there won't be one next week :sniffle:
OMG ... the Wiki write-up on what this episode about is ... OMG

Edit3: DAMN!!! They repeated the staple OP :(

Strange_One - August 9, 2009 09:02 PM (GMT)
Your confusion is what you get for straying from the gg :P despite the fact that they do what they want, they are rather good.

As an aside. The parallel between the series that I end up watching and Himura Kiseki's Doujin art is scary. I'm considering taking up Nanoha as it's pretty much the only series in his repertoire that I haven't seen yet.

So without further ado....

Nice pic :)

As I have said before, I download and watch the raws :)
gg don't supply raws
gg is not on my list of fansub teams to visit for any reason other than if they are first to sub a show that appears on TT that I want to watch
"lesbian, fujoshi, lolicon and masochist" ... and a stalker ... scary ... ... ...
(Basketball shadow doesn't grow ...)
I kept expecting something to happen on the railway tracks ... well ... before the end anyway ...
Why are the 2 of them writing out the Gettysburg Address over and over? :)
She's still deadly with a pencil ... Araragi better never 'break up' with her or stray away :D
Beheading ... OK ... um ... right ...
Ending ... :ph43r: ... Senjougahara appears - WTF?
The Monkey's paw :ph43r: :ph43r: and we have to wait 2 more weeks :(

Edit: OK watched the gg sub - yeah having it in English certainly makes it all that more worth watching - coz the dialogue for this show is really where it is at :D
Funnily enough there is now a similarity between this show and my favourite for this season: Spice and Wolf 2 ... and I certainly would not be unhappy if that trend continued :D :D
This is certainly my 2nd fav this season, Canaan's good but the dialogue in this is exceptional IMO.

Strange_One - August 10, 2009 09:51 PM (GMT)
Only now you realise it's all about the dialogue? :P
• Good use of the Danger sign
  • Well there's an irreversible combo breaker for the OP to an arc thing. Good thing it's such a nice song ^_^
  • Here's an image that would make Mr Shao-mai scream. Minus some minor details... SHE'S KOIZUMI!
  • "I'm not the main character in some galge." - You're the main male character in a light novel/anime. Same difference.
  • "I've already captured the toughest character :)" - :xd:
  • ORAL. BREAST. BUTTOCKS. - Obviously vital power words for the scene.
  • Senjougahara's killing technique
  • She's rather aggresive indeed
  • "What kind of relationship is this?" - An interesting one apparently.
  • Good use of the fire safety signs
  • "I may have gotten a little too enthusiastic." .......... Okay, she's pulling a little harder towards Tsun or Yan for me now
  • Their chat is making me think of a certain other novel named Kara no Kyoukai. More specifically the final chapter.
  • Hmm... pulling harder towards Yan. This episode is definitely hinting towards mental disorder. Not something seen previously.
  • Nisioisin is rather good with Japanese. That it even works with the Gods battlefield meaning - what's that? 3-4 hit combo?
  • Yui Horie the twin plaited smart meganekko.

    ...

    ...

    Ahh.... Narusegawa~~~
  • Hm. I wonder if the important blanked out bits of that chat will be revealed later.
  • While each character only got small parts, I like that they've given all the major characters a part. (Casually ignores the random Hobo)
  • ZOMG! They have AT FIELDS?! :o
  • Keeping sensible and mature. Yeah. I like this a whole lot more than the typical anime romantic comedy.
  • Ooh.... bloooOOOooooOOOOd.......
  • The alarms sounded, but where was the friggin train? I was expecting a train track murder
  • Once again - seriously pulling towards the Yan end of things. I'm guessing Suruga used her super speed before she arrived.
Having to wake an extra week makes me sad for maybe the first Yandere character that I like

While the OP wasn't appropriate. (Well. Unless the series really is that Senjougahara centric.) With an extra two characters in the mix it's clearer. All the characters are featured in the ED.

My inability to understand your need for the raws deepens as the fact that it's all in Japanese means you get even less more another download...

kano - August 10, 2009 10:47 PM (GMT)
Well, Ep3 has been the only raw in Bakemonogatari where I could not follow what was going on and the few 'important' parts I picked up from the J was 'extra' back dialogue, I was completely wrong about their importance, nothing really to do with important stuff (I said above about suggesting not watching Ep3 raw ...)
Again, first watch (raw) tells me (usually) what's happening and 2nd watch (subs) fills in the details ... I also enjoy trying to work out what's going on and trying to pick up words in the raw dialogue ... ... twice the fun :D

Guess what light novel series has hastily been put up on Bakatsuki?

However, given the difficulty of translating novels and the fact that old Velocity 7 doesn't like Nisio Isin (Nor his highly complex writing for the novels) one wonders whether there will be any significant progress...
