Title: Pokemon Special
Description: No relation to the anime

Sayo's Guardian - September 12, 2009 07:00 PM (GMT)
To the point Pokemon Special is a manga which is based of the video games.
The protaginists of the story are named after the versions.
The artist changed after the 9th volume.

The series has been running ever since the original gameboy days when red, blue were played(those were the days) and is still running today.

The series is split into arcs.

Vols.1-3 covers red, blue and green arc
vols.4-7 covers Yellow arc
vols 8-14 cover Gold, Silver and Crystal arc.
vols.15-22 cover Ruby, Sapphire arc.
vols.23-25 cover Leaf green and fire red arc.
vols.26-29 cover Emerald arc.
vols.30-??? cover the diamond and pearl arc
The platinum arc is running in magazines.

They are direct sequels of each other and not restart of stories.

First off the series is pretty much an all ages title however thats a completely different story compared to the anime.
A few example would be:
1) when Ruby meets Sapphire, Sapphire falls unconsious and Ruby takes her measurements while asleep and leaves a new set of clothes for her
2) When Emerald takes a whizz at the top of the battle tower and makes a rainbow,Ruby and Sapphire see and have a WTF! sick expressions on their faces and when Emerald notices them and turns around(I dont need to tell you what happens).
3) A voodoo doll is used to snap a girl`s arm off(yes OFF)
4)though it doesnt happen often there sometimes are bloody situations such as as Ruby receiving a scar as a child when protecting Sapphire.
5)The leaders of team magma and aqua fight each other to the death since only one could live.

Theres even some drama.
Also the Fire red and Leaf green arc has an unexpected bad ending(I wont spoil).

Emerald taking a whizz off the tower and turning his P***s towards Ruby and Sapphire:

Each generation has 3 pokedex holders which the story kind of makes them out as the three musketeers(tends to be 2 male and 1 female), when all 3 pokedex holders are closeby they will beep.

Here is a list of the pokedex holders,
First generation:

Red:
Starter,Bulbasaur

You will all know him as they you played as in R,B,Y and LG, FR.

He knows when not to overexert himself as he knew he nad no chance against Mew and decided to withdraw from the battle in the first chapter.
He ends up blind when fighting Agatha`s Gengar.

Blue:
Starter, Squirtle

You get to play as her in FR, LG however she was in the manga back in the original Gameboy times.
She stole her Squirtle from Oak`s lab but Oak eventually gave the ok for her to keep it.
She is an intelligent thief who later teams up with Green and Red to fight of Team Rocket.
She directly fights Sabrina.
Team Rocket comprise of some goons and the high ranking officers are the gym leaders fro Kanto such as Surge and Sabrina.
She has a dark past with Silver.

Yellow:
Starter, Red`s Pikachu

Yellow is someone who neither appears in the games or the anime and lives in Viridian forest and is friends with Blue.
Yellow has a special ability that is able to read the hearts of pokemon.
Yellow looks a boy but is in fact a girl, she hides that fact by wearing a hat.
He helps the others fight the Elite 4.
He fights Lance the champion.

2nd generation:

Gold:
Starter, Cyndaquil

A hot-headed guy. no comment you play as him in G,S,C and HG,SS.

Silver:
Starter, Tododile

He steals his pokemon from Elm lab like Blue and he runs missions in Johto asked by Blue.
He plays your rival in the games.
He seems to be the silent type.
He has a blood relationship with Giovanni, the leader of team rocket.
Has a dark past with Blue.

Crystal:
Almost every pokemon

You play as her in Crystal version.
An expert in catching pokemon, Oak asks her to catch pokemon and she drives Oak mad when listing the ones she captures.
She likes to use the false swipe method which is probably the best way to weaken.
She came close to capturing Suicune.

Team Rocket is run by a mysterious person.
Sabrina, Surge and others are trying to get their organization back in order.
Due to an incident in yellow Red and Sabrina found the silver springs in Johto and they came across each other in the hot springs...

3rd Generation:

Ruby:
starter, Mudkip
You play as him in R,S,E.
He hates fighting, he loves beauty more than anything.
He makes a bet with Sapphire that he will collect all the contest ribbons in Hoenn and be back in the same spot withing 80 days.

Sapphire:
starter, Torchic
You play as her in R,S,E.
You may know as her as May(Haruka in original japanese) in the anime.
She is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to her anime counterpart.
She first appears and acts like a female tarzan and is quite feral.
She is daughter of the prof.
She makes a bet with Ruby that she will collect gym badges and make it back to the same spot before Ruby within 80 days.
Her father is shocked when she wore normal clothes and left home(the clothes Ruby gave her).

Emerald:
starter, Sceptile

Neither appears in anime or games.
Hates pokemon, likes pokemon battles and is good at it. he has no pokemon,
He borrows pokemon from Crystal and fights at the battle frontier.
He meets the Sceptile that was sopposed be his starter in the past.
He is extremely short, he wears extendable arms and legs.
Crystal gave him a mission to capture Jirachi.

4th generation:

Diamond:
Starter, Turtwig

You play as him in D,P, PT
different from his game counterpart he part of the comedy duo with Pearl. he plays the broke(funny man).

Pearl:
Starter, Chimchar

you know him as your rival in the games and Barry in the anime.
Pearl is different to his agame/anime counterpart.
He is always energitic and and comes up with comedy acts with Diamond.

Due to a mix-up he and Diamond beleived to be on reality tv-show where thay have to accompany Berlitz to Mount Coronet and win a prize.

The platinum arc has her going to the distortion world.

Platinum Berlitz:
Starter, Piplup

You play as her in the games and you know her in the anime as Dawn(Hikari in the original japanese). Again manga counterpart is different
From a wealthy family of 200 years, has an elegent atmosphere.
She has to fulfill a family tradition of going to the top of Mount Coronet to gather materials to create her own personal family crest.
Two bodyguards were hired to go with her but due to a mix-up Diamond and Pearl accompanied her. Platinum beleives that they are her bodyguards.

Platinum refers to introduce herself because he does not give her name to commoners, you acually dont know her name until later in the series, D and P refer to her as missy.
She rides on her Ponyta when travelling with D and P.
She collects gym badges on the way, D and P give her advice using theur comedy acts.
Whenever she laughs at D and P`s acts she keeps a straight face on and denies it, she also likes to do practical things like mining.
Whenever she tries to imitate she make the face and denies it.
Her butler worries about her crazy and calls her from now and then.

Platinum-ojou-sama is the best!

http://www.mangafox.com/manga/pok_mon_adve.../c341/5.html(so cute)

The series has been released in Singapore in english but you read from left to right.
Red,blue, green, yellow arc was released twice in the US but in left to right format.

Recently Viz media started to release the series but this time in the original right to left format.
They have released the first 2 volumes so far.

Dragon guard have translated the entirety of red, blue, green and yellow arc and a bit of gold, silver and crystal.

After that some group uploaded the singapre scans(are in english already and are read from left to right).

You can read the manga on mangafox or download the series on mangahelpers.

I`m definately going to buy the diamond, pearl and platinum arcs when they`re out.

Its not a best series but if you like pokemon, the games etc.
This is definately worth ago.

I read the first seven volumes on OneManga... (They only seem to have those uploaded...)

It was pretty good... (It gave me a good insight on where Red's Snorlax comes from on his G/S/C and HG/SS team...)

I always thought the first half of his team was random because Ash Ketchum didn't catch those in the anime... (Then I realized the two aren't the same people and that Red's team relates more to the manga than the anime...)

BlueDo - September 12, 2009 08:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I read the Red and Yellow Arc before.
Didn't continue, cause the scanlations available right now are pretty bad quality.

Btw, you might want to put the details in spoilers.

Sayo's Guardian - September 12, 2009 09:43 PM (GMT)
Sorry. I`ll stop.

Please continue to read the series.
Its actually pretty good.

You can read from vol.1-30 and abit on mangafox.

Red, Blue and green arc is ch.1-40.
Yellow arc is ch.41-90.
Gold, Silver, Crystal arc is ch.91-180.
Ruby, Sapphire arc is ch.181-267.
Fire Red and Leaf Green arc is ch.268-302.
Emerald arc is ch.303-337.
Diamond and Pearl arc is ch.338-???

and I already mentioned the Platinum arc is currently running in magazines.

I might get myself to buy them.
Theres only 2 vols out so far.
Japan`s upto 32 or 33.

Esperman - September 12, 2009 09:50 PM (GMT)
I'm actually surprised that it hasn't run into the HG/SS storyline right now...

Usually the game sets a standard where the anime and manga tends to follow suit very quickly...

The anime's followed pretty quickly with the introduction of the new girl, though I assume the Pokemon Adventures storyline's still on the Platinum arc...

I wonder what they'll call the new girl in HG/SS... (Crystal's already taken...)

Unless they want to call the girl Soul and make up an entirely new character (Like Emerald and Yellow...) and call him Heart... (Though that's kind of a weird name for a guy...)

Rai - September 12, 2009 10:41 PM (GMT)
Like Blue said, better edit your post and put spoiler tags on all the spoilers. (Luckily, I didn't have the patience to look through it all XD.)

Just because, I'll probably buy the Viz R > L versions. The only problem is I haven't played GSC. (So many people already grabbed the HG and SS Japanese roms... Jeez, same thing happened with Platinum)

Sayo's Guardian - September 12, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
So is Green but it still fits.

Heart and Soul are fine names in my opinion.

You forgot something though.
The male player in HG/SS is Gold.
So the girl is probably either going to be called Heart or Soul.

I can imagine the HG/SS arc going back to Gold, Silver and Crystal and introducing The female character in a new story.

To be honest I dont know much about the Platinum arc other than Platinum and Looker investigating the Distortion world, chances are theres more to the arc.

You know, the anime has had Ash as the main protaginist for over 600 episodes and over 10 years.

Wouldnt it be interesting if the anime were like the games, like this manga.
Thats probably wishful thinking but whatever.

I was lookingthrough the Emerald arc and I just saw the guy in the suit and hat, the one that gives you a Riolu in the the 4th gen games.

I find it pretty amazing how Blue was around all those years ago. I know that back then you could only play as a boy but still...

Her character design in the manga changed drastically as the story progressed.

Viva Platinum Ojou-sama!

This just a suggestion but try reading the diamond, pearl arc first.

Eh, no worries there...

A lot of people have said that HG/SS isn't a re-make that they thought it would be...

It's added a lot of features and re-worked a lot of stuff, so it's kind of like a new add-on to the fourth gen then an actual re-make like FR and LG...

As for the you-know-what's, eh, I downloaded HG but then I figured I needed a patch to get past the freezing part... (Due to anti-piracy...)

I decided not to mess with it and wait until the English release...

Yeah, the male player is Gold though most likely, they're gonna put out a new character for Heart/Soul/the new girl's companion for the HG/SS arc...

Gold, Silver, and the rest of the gang will probably come back, but whichever name they give to the girl, the other name will probably go to the new character they'll make...

Sayo's Guardian - September 13, 2009 12:30 AM (GMT)

Esperman - September 13, 2009 12:39 AM (GMT)
Out of sheer curiousity, did they ever release any new characters for the Fire Red and Leaf Green arc?

I know Red and Blue were probably used since Blue was also the girl character choosable in the games, but did they make any character called Fire and one called Leaf? (Personally I don't think they did...)

Just asking cause maybe it'll help solve what they'll call the girl in the HG/SS arc...

Sayo's Guardian - September 13, 2009 01:11 AM (GMT)
No they did not.
They did introduce some new aspects and characters of the series like why Giovanni started Team Rocket in the first place and I wont mention the characters to prevent spoilers.

The story of FR,LG arc is mostly about how Deoxys is trying to kill the Kanto pokedex holders.

Mewtwo fights Deoxys since they are the genetic and DNA pokemon(they were both artificially created by Team Rocket).

Take note that Mew makes an appearance from faraway island and Deoxys tends to rest at Birth island.
These are special areas where you need to download a ticket from an event to get to in emerald, FR,LG games.

A spoiler for the hell of it:
Team Rocket created 2 Deoxys and one of them has Red`s blood in its body.

By the way I still think Heart and Soul are decent names.

Twilit Libra - September 21, 2009 01:32 AM (GMT)
Wonder what they'll do for HG and SS, since they've already got Crystal as a main character.
Maybe Kotone'll be Kris' little sister or a fan or something,
:dunno:

And judging by the new content i.e.
The time traveling battle with Giovanni, the Dragon trio being born, the notched eared Pichu
, they could have quite a bit to play around with. Though I will admit that HG and SS have quite a bit less to them, in additions to the story, than FR and LG did. Probably because their base games had so much content already.

Esperman - September 21, 2009 05:29 PM (GMT)
I think I know who the new male character could be for the manga...

Apparently, a new male character has been introduced with Kotone in the anime...

I know the anime isn't the manga, but it could still be someone they can use...

The male's character name is Kazunari in the anime (Japanese of course... They'll probably release Kotone's and Kazunari's dub names later on...) and is traveling around with Kotone... (Well, now, they're following around the main company...)

They could always make him the male character, and Kotone could be the female...

Of course, Kotone will probably be renamed to Heart or whatever and Kazunari could be renamed to Soul or something...

Now, I'm not saying it'll happen for sure, but now they actually have a male character they can use...

BlueDo - September 26, 2009 01:06 AM (GMT)
Slowpoke here.
I just finished the Gold and Silver Arc.
Did the writing suddenly get a lot less exciting? :eyebrow:
The battles used to be very elaborate, but this is... just way too straightforward.
The masked guy thing was not very good at all.

Esperman - September 26, 2009 01:12 AM (GMT)
^Heck, I read up to the Yellow arc, and now I can't go any further...

OneManga only has the Red/Blue/Green and Yellow arcs...

That sucks if the writing got less exciting... (The manga's actually really good...)

You don't get stuck with a certain character(s) for the entire series... (Unlike the anime...)

Plus, there's no real haxchu type characteristics with the infamous "aim for the horn" tactics...

Plus, the characters' personalities were much more dynamic...

Sayo's Guardian - September 26, 2009 07:20 PM (GMT)
Glad you`ve been reading it.
The characters are much more interesting than than anime.

Theres even a bit of romance later on, I wont spoil but I`ll say its between pokedex holders.

Mangafox has all of the chapters but they are missing a couple of chapters:
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/pok_mon_adventures/

I suggest you download the volumes from mangatraders:
http://www.mangatraders.com/manga/series/95

The series gets more mature as it goes on.
I already mentioned that the artist changes to another right around halfway through the gold/silver/crystal arc.

The characters are fun and unpredictable as opposed to the anime and most important of all like Esperman said, they are not overused in terms of design, personality and theme.

Say what did you think of how Yellow ended?
How Blue connunicates with Silver which shows how the story will continue in Johto.

Here are covers for the volumes out in Japan:
http://www.serebii.net/manga/volume.shtml

vol.33 will be released in Japan late October.

Viva PLATINUM OJOU-SAMA!

Esperman - September 26, 2009 08:19 PM (GMT)
If Blue hadn't shown her Snubull (sp?) before the last panel, I actually would have found the end to the Yellow arc very surprising...

Honestly, I thought the arcs between each gen were entirely different where none of the characters from future or past gen arcs would be in any relation to those of any other arc...

But I guess it's a nice transition...

Thanks for the links...

Sayo's Guardian - October 1, 2009 08:39 PM (GMT)
How far are you in the gold/silver/crystal arc?

Esperman - October 1, 2009 10:50 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I haven't started yet...

I'll start soon...

Unless you were talking to BlueDo... (He said he just got done... Don't know if he plans to start on the R/S/E arc(s)...)

Sayo's Guardian - October 2, 2009 08:46 AM (GMT)
Its a series that exceeds 300 chapters and still running.
You may as well read the entire thing if you`ve started.

No spoilers then on G/S/C arc yet then.

Twilit Libra - March 7, 2010 04:31 AM (GMT)
HG and SS story arc will launch in April.

Seems like they do do something in regards to the Dragon trio event.

Also, this may be premature, but I wonder if they'll do Generation V? :hmm:

Course, like I said, it's too early to call anything. All we've got are two new Pokemon and actual confirmation that there will be a new Pokemon RPG.

Sayo's Guardian - March 8, 2010 06:38 PM (GMT)
Like I said as long as this RPG is not generation V, I`m happy.

Nintendo have had a tradition for each generation to be released for every generation of handheld console.

The names of the 2 generation V pokemon are likely to change for an english version.

I am liking the evolved form, its obviously based off japanese mythology of the mischievous fox that tricks humans by transforming.

I am quite interested to see what Kotone`s name for the manga will be.
The male is clearly Gold so we may have either heart or soul.

Just downloaded volume 32 and OMG those two BodyGuards were....
Having a sense of death has really caught me especially in a series like this.

PLATINUM OJOU-SAMA ROCKS!!! Kudos to her gambling addiction, she is addicted to the game corner in vol.32.

The latest translated chapter has the trio in the safari zone and they actually were protective outfits(of sorts) to walk around in the mud.

Can someone help me find the the Platinum raws, its quite strange how they`re released at the same time as D/P.

Just out of curiosity have any of you bought Viz`s releases of Pokemon adventures?
I havent got any. I`m waiting for vol.23 for the leaf green/fire red arc first.

Well, they also had a tradition of releasing a 3-D Mario for every generation of home consoles...

Also, they may rename Zoroark, but let's not forget the last time a Pokemon was showcased in a movie before it's Generation was released. *coughLucariocough*

I don't.

Got the Jirachi though. :yahoo:

Sayo's Guardian - March 12, 2010 04:35 PM (GMT)
I want a Jirachi.
Theres no UK event for the edge of night sky Jirachi.
which is somewhat strange considering how theres 2 weeks till it comes out here.

You really dont care if you dont get the notched ear Pichu? or even a Shiny Pichu for that matter.
its your choice.

Tomorow is the Arceus event and I intend to get at least 10 of them.

I heard that in Japan they`ll be giving out a shiny Raikou, Entei and Suicune to those who pre-order the tickets to the 13th movie.

Back to topic, how many of you are upto date with the translations?
The latest translated chapter is 364 in 4th generation

Tmoo is in the 2nd generation.

Sayo's Guardian - March 16, 2010 09:10 PM (GMT)
I have info on HG/SS arc.

So far 1 chapter from the arc has been released.
I got this brief summary from wikipedia:

Three years after the events in the Emerald arc, the story starts when Gold and Arceus face off. In a flashback, it is shown that events similar to Team Rocket's raid have recently occurred. Silver and Gold carry out investigations to see who the mastermind behind all this is.

I have failed to find pokemon special raws for Platinum arc so I`m going to do the procedure manually.
I am going to Japan centre tomorow and I will check out the raw directly from Corocoro Ichiban magazine.

Also turns out the series is bi-monthly.....
Wow imagine having to read 6 chapters of 1 series a year.

Well this gives Viz more time to release the volumes.
I`m going to start buying Viz`s releaes from vol.6 since thats pretty much the start of the finale of first generation.

Sayo's Guardian - June 22, 2010 07:26 AM (GMT)
Has anyone kept themselves up to date with the manga?
/A/Non scans are doing the latest volume.
c.386 is their latest.
The characters really have flavour and seeing the gym in that format as well really is something.
Way to go Platina-ojousma(Its what heroines dress like...right?)

Sayo's Guardian - November 19, 2010 12:53 AM (GMT)
The first chapter of the BLack and White arc has been translated.

I hope White(the girl) has her design fixed soon.

Black(the guy) I have no idea whether to say he`s likeable or not.

It would appear that the HG/SS arc finihes on the same magazine release as B/W`s first chapter.

Japan will release vol.37 soon.

Also is anyone here watching the Best Wishes subbed episodes?
