Title: Negima Volume 29

CurtLe - May 12, 2011 03:02 PM (GMT)
Saw it at Books-a-Million today so I snatched it up. Took a quick look through and it looks the same inside as the Del Ray volumes.

That's to be expected.

Most of the staff handling it were kept, and Kodansha was the one deciding what did or didn't come overseas anyways.

Note to self: stop at my local Borders tomorrow, and if the store is selling volume 29 early, pick it up and cancel my order from Amazon.

Well, I for one wasn't completely sure that it would remain pretty much unchanged. Sometimes, a new company wants to put its stamp on something it has taken over and sometimes a company will leave well enough alone, opting to defer changes until later. So far, the two Kodansha Comics titles I've scored have been well done.

I got mine a few days ago.

Yeah it's not much different from DR's version. Though that may be because Negima is one of the more populart titiles here in the States. Excludeing the big three of course. So they may not have wanted to change much in terms of style/formate.

Besides, I'm more concerned with getting an accurate translation when compared to DR's version.

Well, if all they have done is employ the same people ... then expect what you got before :(

Oh man i forgot to report mine in.

Yeah, ive got volume 29 and i apparently got a free Nanoha plushie because the girl at the comic store didnt charge me anywhere near enough for the accounting to make sense.

i cant really say alot about the translation, though to comment on the complaint; who else where they realistically going to hire? Jones Brothers for translating negima?

anyway, its nice to go into a comic store with the intention of buying something i want.

This was probably mentioned before, (a year-and-a-half ago?) but did anyone else notice Jack has two left hands?

http://www.mangafox.com/manga/mahou_sensei...29/c259/16.html

You can't say he switched hands, because he grabs Koyomi first, with his left hand, then Homura. When you see all three later, Koyomi is still in his left hand...

BluFlaims - May 30, 2011 11:12 PM (GMT)
RAKAN IS RAKAN, HE DEFIES THE LAW OF PHYSICS... and apparently biology too...
or he could just be grabbing with one hand and juggling them with both.

Reminds me of a doujin I saw.

Picked mine up the other day to support Ken, et al. However I found the translation lacking in feeling. I still prefer cnet's, and other fanlations.

Not sure if I got a corrupted scanlation chapter before. However the whole Nagi LM fight was rather new to me. I will have to look back in my records for the raw.

God bless the one who can get Negima ....
In my country there's two publisher for it...
The first one only release 17 books...
And the second one only 5 books so far... :sniffle:

It actually took me several days to read my v29...

Is there anyone else out there who has no issue with buying the manga to support KA, but who has kind of a 'Yeah, whatever,' feeling about it?

Mostly I mean this in the sense that we had so many intense discusions over this part of the story, and also having read it over a year ago in scanslation, that actually having the 'official' version in our hands now is a tad anti-climactic...

Trowa - June 7, 2011 02:55 AM (GMT)
Yeah sorta Neko.

Volume discussion never was all that big here. Though more so than it is now saddly.

For the most part I'm buying it to support Akamatsu and so that I have a physical copy of every volume at hand. Mostly for quick reference and such now.

by reading the official version, you can check out what Ken had changed from magazine serial, and whatever fan translation mistakes were made.

do you know there are 240+ changes from magazine serial to compilations for book 29 alone? of course most of them are the harmless variety that play around with the language which won't be obvious after a translation, the rest of moving bubble left right, up down, fixing little mistakes which won't even be obvious unless you look at both version side by side, etc. but there is a difference between compilation and magazine serial, which is how Japanese mangaka encourage people to buy books after already reading the story in the magazine. kind of like putting bonus features + restored censored parts from TV showing in DVD/BD, (shows like Infinite Stratos, Sekiri, and Queen's Blade worth checking out again on DVD if you like the TV. :heh:) and when losing business to the pirates, start including bonus which can not be ripped, like Negima's pactio card or K-On's bath tower, etc.

(on an unrelated note, I just read the compilation ending of Nononono, and the darn author pulls a Dallas, meaning he made the magazine serial ending "just a dream"! I wonder how many people who only read magazine version will be fooled for years to come.)

In my edition it's otherwise...
The scanlated version is MORE complete....
There's so many things that should be there but there is none...

I even now about the Misora consult room and nazenani negima or whatever from this forum.... :dunno:

Neko_Arc01 - June 7, 2011 08:01 PM (GMT)
Hata,

The majority of what you're talking about are effectively typos.

The extra's that REALLY matter aren't available, at least, not in the US edition, so what's the real difference?

I'm only getting the LE/bonus items because there's a small third-party export house in Japan willing to help me order them.

It does feel that way at times

the first 7 volumes of negima i bought before i realized you could get scanlations of negima upto was then the latest volume (vol14)

dicussion on here does make you approciuate the offical explainations in the back of the book and the extras are nice things that i would've overlooked had i not bothered to look that way.

but i feel the sentiment, it only feels like yesterday we were dicussing the events around the ball.

it does however give me a weird feeling when i intercept another negima reader i know who does not keep up with the weekly release and they discuss his ideas for whats to come, its almost painful not being able to tell him the !@#*-ton of spoilers. or at the very least spill some wildly out of context.

but wait for vol 30 to start when the HSQ started its climb up the scales.
