I'm pretty sure this topic hasn't been brought up yet here in the forums, though it has been discussed in the forums.

How would you guys feel about AQS expanding from scanlations and going into fansubs? Would this be something that you guys would be interested in doing?

I'm not completely sure how many staff members we would need for this, as I know that a lot goes into fansub projects. This is what I figured we would need:

Raws Provider
Tranlators
Type-setters
Subtitle script timing
Quality control/checker
Distributors
Encoding
Project Director/Manager (especially if we decide to take on multiple projects)

Any suggestions or input is much appreciated.

I am interested, but I have no idea what my schedule will be like. I can do distro and possibly QC. Only other thing I can think of is maybe encoding, I would have to learn how but I got the comp power for it.

Then again, we'll need another GOOD series to sub first. One that's not taken by the other teams.

Negima OVA / 2nd Season, anyone?

I'm not so sure about this, because most good/popular anime have been selected by other high-quality fansub groups. If we do an anime that nobody (should I say too few) watches, it'd be a waste.

One thing is we don't know what series are and/or will be good since they are getting ready to start or will be starting within the next few months, unless you know any background info such as the manga or games. Even then, story tends to change when going to an anime adaptation.

Go ahead and use this thread to come up with some possible series to do. I'm not sure if this is an accurate assumption, but certain fangroups tend to do certain types of series. Do we want to go for an action, bishoujo/drama, sports, comedy? Perhaps we should stick to something close to the type of series that Negima and our sites promote.

There's a lot of series out there, and this could definitely be fun. And yes, we need to take a series no one else has. Distinct advantage with that is that people looking for it will come to us, since no one else decides to take the project. Also, basic rules of new fansbus teams I've been told is to hit hard and fast. In other words, good quality and fast releases and that will get our name out.

One suggestion if we were to try to go for it this season would be To Heart 2, though we would be cutting it close since it's getting ready to start soon, and I'm not sure we could assemble a team in time. If fe would try to do anymore Negima anime related stuff, I would suggest we do a joint project with AnCo, since we know a lot of their members and I'm sure they would appreciate the extra help.

I like that you guys are expressing interest in this. erizo had suggested this and I love the idea.

hmm...i'm pretty ok with photoshop, i could break up the file into screenshots and clear them up (like the fuzzy picture you sometimes get, luminous dots, etc.), but i'll need some time for that, so i don't know.

i'm searching for a good anime, but most of the good ones are taken, so it'll take a while.

Well, first we can do Negima 23. We can get a lot of popularity by satisfying a large, crying audience.

you really like that negima crap dry.gif don't you?
oh you're joking again?

@Senshi: aaah, I’ve said you a bullshit on the chan. I mean it was not a real bullshit but the method I told you isn’t the good one. After a quick talk with a fansubber, the fastidious flash method isn’t good, the one used for time coding is the same I used for long interview/conference subtitling using a subtitling program called "Virtual Dub". In the end I’ve realized that I know all about fansubbing an anime from time coding, type setting to encoding apart from raw providing and translating. I’m sorry for the mistake I should have told you about the second and good method but hey I was quite lazy and don’t forget I’m often… a nerd biggrin.gif … anyway I could do a tutorial for you but I’m very very lazy and very busy too. I’m sure someone else will do that for you.

Nah, that convo was basically just random stuff going on, I just wanted to know what you meant by editing in your first post.

:EDIT: I think we should do H-Game animes like Air, Kanon, etc.

Ok, if we are going to pull this thing out the first thing we should do is start the recruiting because one thing for sure: we don't want to delay our NEGIMA MANGA releases.
We should add something like this to our IRC chan topic / homepage, etc?

QUOTE
We are currently recruiting timers, editors, J->E translators, and typesetters. Please contact one of the ops in our channel for more details.

Should we ? or should we not ?

edit: We can always create a !recruit trigger for the IRC channel, just give me all the info. that should appear when people type !recuit and who should they contact, I'm guessing they should contact channel Ops. Just let me know because a new season of anime is coming out and we should do some TESTS with other shows (like internal releases -- it doesn't have to be an official release) but for people to like us, a new fansub group, we should try to make our first release a good one and if we can do some tests with other shows it'd do really good to our exp. before an actually release ( I got some POT raws I think, just for tests)

I can help with proof reading and stuff. I would like to add one coment about it and that is we stick to a series if we decide to do it. I hate coming across a series to find out that the group who started the series dropped it. I am not refering to groups who are no longer able to do them, I am refering to groups who drop a series because they no longer like them or stuff like that.
I am willing to learn how to use programs to assist in this project or at least help with testing releases.

Trcisterpriest is someone who I know can help us because of his video editing exp.

Lets hope for aquastar831 to reply, I already put up the !recruit command on the forums, I'm guessing we start the project the minute we have a RAW translator.

the !recruit command? yes, go ahead and do it. I will post the notice on the web pages as well. I'm doing updates this evening.

I hope that tricsterpriest is okay, because I think he was near the area where the hurricane hit. I'm very sure he would sign on to do this. He would be a very person to have with his AMV experience and such.

Okay guys the !recruit trigger is pretty much set on IRC, we might wanna create a thread somewhere near the NEGIMA subforums because, lets face it, 99% of the people will go there first. But I'm going to leave that to Reika since she's trying her best to organized all pinned topics from that area.

Lets wait for tricsterpriest & a jap-eng translator so we can start the engines, soon we'll be [AQuaStar Anime] and as for [AQuaStar Manga] keep the good work !!! happy.gif

I downloaded the virtual dub mentioned by Sox and took a quick look at it and it seems pretty straight forward and easy to use. The program is free so that is a plus for it. I wouls also like to offer my services in another way as well. A friend of mine watchs anime on his PSP and does the conversion for it, when an anime episode is converted the file size drops from 200 megs to around 50 or 60 megs. The files can still be played on your computer so we might want to offer episodes in the different formats, because then it would be easier for our dial up users. I will convert the files for people.

I suppose that dial-up users should resign themselves sad.gif , because even if you resize an episode the more you can, it's still too big for a dial-up to download it (a 25 min. episode in real media format, the one with the smallest average size, it's around 25 mb.)

Let me see what I can come up with, I might have to sacrifice some quality to do it though. The size I gave was for a good quality version let me see what I can get it down to with decent quality and stuff.

I see. I'll try to get IRC working, but my stupid firewall won't work, and I have very limited knowledge in firewalls, ports, SOCKS, and all this Internet thingy...But I think for an editor/quality control, a simple email is enough.

How about the quality? does it drop when converted ?
Well ... we can always try it out, but we have to get an ep. subbed then we can start talking about multiple releases.

I'm going to create a thread for people to submit their application ...
AND I SWEAR I'LL BAN ANYONE WHO POST THERE ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN APPLICATION FORM.

I'm here temporarily at least, but as I said so long ago I can easily be a type-setter or editor. Got all the programs and everything already, but I lack a system for the moment because I left it behind when evacuating. But I did take the hard drives with me so I still have all my data secure and safe.

I'll post again somewhere when I know when i'll be able to get on again on a steady basis, but as i said, I'll be the first to sign up for type-setter and editor and QC all in one.

It looks like we already have a lot of people interested in signing up for the fansub team. This evening I'll go through and figure out what positions need to be filled and what everyone wants to do. Now would be a good time to consider what series to pick up and sub. I would suggest sticking with a genre similar to what we've been working on and promoting with both the scanlations and the sites, in this case Negima, Love Hina, Sister Princess, Kanon, and AIR. I would almost consider Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's, but unfortunately the Triad already is doing it, and I would like us to do a series that no one has grabbed yet and we can make a big impact coming out as the rookies in the anime fansub realm.

Can someone complie a list of all of the new shows starting soon and post the list here? That way we can get an idea of what's out there.

I'm kind of leaning towards that title as well. I know that Anime-Faith and Conclave did Remember My Memories, but I don't know if they're going to do To Heart 2. If we were to choose a title now close to the types of series we seem to favor, I would choose To Heart 2. If we do a good job and get the releases out fast, this would really start us with a good rep with fansubs, as we've already made ourselves known in the scanlation side.

My vote is for To Heart 2
