I watched episode 1(?) of this anime and I ended up really, really lost. is it just like a home movie the characters of the anime made and is the actual anime going to continue with something along the lines of an actual story next?

The second episode explains the meaning of the first one. The series seem so off the wall with the character of Haruhi being the most spontaniously fun character since Hara Haru Haruko (FLCL).

And here's the ending Gundam version

Seriously, it's been awhile since the last time I've watched an episode for so many times (6) <.<

I loved it, it was absolutely fantastic. But yeah, the second episode kinda puts it in perspective.

...What can I say? *points to my ava and sig*

My comments in the fansub suggestion thread when the first episode aired on 4/2:
http://s4.invisionfree.com/aquastar/index....dpost&p=3457195
DVD Release info:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=227

Other than that, there's nothing for me to say anymore. The Haruhi first-timers outnumber novel-veterans like me like 100 to 1, the discussion/knowledge level is too far apart. sad.gif

Oh, but I just grabbed the 1280x720 HD version of episode 2 off of Winny.

You can do something, like answer to this question:

Suzumiya Haruhi no Bousou
Suzumiya Haruhi no Douyou
Suzumiya Haruhi no Inbou
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
Suzumiya Haruhi no Taikutsu
Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

Please put them in order <.< (And if Yuuutsu is the last one, I think I'll love the ending...hurray for spoiling pics <.<)

And yes, when the US DVDs will be released, they will be mine >.>

You mean listing the novel from volume 1 to 7 (latest volume)? It's just like how Neosam back at AnimeSuki listed them, but I'll list them here again.

Thanks...that happens when you don't read the previous pages in a thread <.<

Somehow, the fact that the novel volumes are still being released implies that the anime won't cover the entire plot of the novels, right? Should we wait for another season?

I'm interested in the overdrive one >_>

So like it's based on a novel, so not manga? Meaning if I buy it I won't be able to understand it unless my Japanese reading level gets a few level ups?

And yah, Nagato Yuki is the best >.>

PS: I hate you guys for hyping up episode 2 because hype is bad ;-;

I knew this thread would be created soon. MOSH (Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) is now the best anime of the season, IMO. It's like SnS but with alot more fanservice and fun. Ohh, I love Haruhi and Mikuru!

chapter summaries, or something along those lines

maybe something along the lines of a direct translation?

oh well, if you can stand the grammar and spelling errors, give it a shot.

That's thelastguardian's attempt at translating the novel. That page covers the first 40 pages of volume 1 (out of 300 pages). I commend his effort, the translations are mostly correct, but the atmosphere just doesn't feel right at all. And I don't get the whole "Omone" thing (Kyon is Kyon, I don't get why it needs to be changed) either.

Besides that, it could use a lambchopsil or two to fix up all the grammar and spelling errors. ^^;

Well, if the Haruhi fanbase becomes more appearent outside of AQS, I don't see why translating a couple of novels isn't a possible project.

Manga and novel are 2 different things. Anyone who speaks Japanese and English can translate manga. However, with novel, the translator has to work with prose literature along with translating, which means he/she needs much literary knowledge. I don't say that AQS translators are incompetent at all; it's just that they have lives, too. Time is the key factor here. They can't spend 3 hours everyday on translating these books. This is just my opinion, so don't hold it as a fact.

Right now I just can't wait for the next episode...

Hmm...with the AQS staff with 2 translators, I can see your point. Well, if we had more translators we could pull it off, since finding editors would be an easier task ('cause I'm up for it, for once).

RIght now, you guys got me watchin' episode 2 for the 11th time as told by my play count. After all this time, I still can't figure out the other mag Haruhi holds up next to the one featurin' Kaede and Asa of Shuffle. Anyone got a clue?

If you can find a professional-level translator with all the time in the world, then maybe. Novel texts burn through a translator about 100 times faster than manga. Suzumiya Haruhi, in particular, is extra hard thanks to the eccentric language (super long "tongue-twister" style run-on sentences, denpa statements (totally confusing sentences), etc.) that's it's written in.

(An example for the run-on would be Kyon's monologue about Santa in the beginning of Episode 2, which was lifted right out of novel volume 1's prologue. Sentences like these are present throughout the novel)

(An example for denpa comments would be something like: "次元振動周期を位相変換し重力波に置き換える作用を持つ力場を体表面に発生させた". Those of you who can read Japanese will know that this is not something you'd want to translate. And that was just ONE sentence out of the countless denpa comments that pops up over time)

At the very least, for someone like me, who trys to stick as close to the original as possible when translating, this is not something I'd want to work on. The only other way would be to force your way through like thelastguardian did, at the cost of everything from accuracy to atmosphere.

The one on the left is the November 2005 issue of the bishojo game magazine Comptiq、while the one on the right is vol.4 of the bishojo game comic magazine CompAce. Both mag are owned by Kadokawa, who's also the publisher of The Sneaker (the seinen novel magazine that Suzumiya Haruhi serializes on), as well as the Suzumiya Haruhi novel series.

I own both issues, so I got quite a laugh from it too. ^^;

I can't wait for episode 3. I'm indebted to DJ for showing me this. I love Haruhi. She's awesome, you can't help but love her. And bloody hades, Kyon's a lead character that I don't wanna bash my fist into his face. Plus I love how well he narrates his own life, but sucks in the movie.

Oh and episode 1 makes total sense now that I've watched episode 2.

Actually, he seems like the guy who has had his dreams shattered and needs someone like Haruhi to find them again. Best type of character to be paired of with someone like Haruhi.

"Zen Zen Haruhi." This is a new phrase (I'm missing a particle, I know), that means that there are no words to describe this shows absolute goodness and its amount of quality. Therefore, this phrase will now discribe goodness that can't be described (assuming I figure out the proper particle needed for it).

I was intrigued by Athos sig and as I follow (almost always) Athos’s good taste toward anime, I’ve watched this serie (btw I’m surprised only one team started fansubbing it).

Ep1: Hilarious, the movie was so crappy-made and the comments of the narrator so lively and funny that even if he was not on the screen it’s like he was. It’s pretty original to start a story with an ep that could be in the middle or near the end of the whole plot.

Ep2: I like Kyon character and the way he behave and think (not really concerned, calm…)
Mikuru is really the Moe-type character, Haruhi’s definitely right ^^;
Two word about Haruhi: Fascinating and uncommon ("special" XD)

Opinion: a very funny serie and quite fascinating, far more original from the current highschool serie. One thing that is weird is that the 2 eps follow Kyon narration and thinking so we can’t get the real feelings of other characters, it’s deceiving in one hand but in the other the suspense is increased, anyway maybe the point of view will change in the next eps…? (well the point of view of Yuki might be obvious: “…”)
Oh and it’s strange how on EP1, Kyon seems to be “jealous” of Itsuki being “close to” Mikuru (maybe “protective toward the Moe” is better) while on the contrary in Ep2 he seems more (only?) fascinated by Haruhi… ah the way they start the serie brings a lot of questions, really a good way to attract interest sleep.gif

Now about AQS starting a project on Hurahi… why not BUT seeing how the anime is good… is it really interesting? We face the same problem as for SnS. Well at least if the manga is ahead the anime maybe scanlating the “after anime end” story could be interesting. Ah and we don’t have any scans doh! >_<
Ah wrong! Raw manga released ch1-7

======
@Athos:
I looked at the scans
-not much rebuilding
-kinda crap quality (weeklies), levelling highly needed
I dunno for you but scanlating this serie will be a bit hard unless some full time editors join us on it and does one of our translators want to translate it? are there enough fans who wants us to scanlate it? Do you plan to work on it at the same pace as Negima? Too much unknown factors, if you have the time grab me on the chan and we'll discuss our options and point of view.
======

I avoid putting my opinion on the OP and ED, it’s not my cup of tea (althought the dance is quite good happy.gif), I wait for the OST.

As most (all?) of you I wait impatiently for Ep3.

Too much good serie to watch, too tight schedule.. unfortunately.

Kyon loves Mikuru (not romantically, but he sees her as his angelic savior. Without Mikuru around, Kyon probably would've been driven crazy by Haruhi (+the other SOS-dan members) a LONG time ago). Kyon is NOT fascinated with Haruhi, he's just shocked and repulsed at Haruhi's selfishness and randomness. This remains constant throughout the series.

One thing that is weird is that the 2 eps follow Kyon narration and thinking

That's because that's the point of view the story is written in. Kyon's monologues (25% narration/75% tsukkomi) are a major part of the story and it's essential that they remain in the anime. And Kyoani understood that, so that's what they did. We will always be able follow Kyon's thoughts throughout the anime, just like how a visual novel/light novel anime adaptation is meant to be. Fate/stay night should've done the same with Shirou, maybe not at Kyon's level, but it could've used more of Shirou's inner thoughts.

Now about AQS starting a project on Hurahi… why not BUT seeing how the anime is good… is it really interesting?

It was alright before the anime, but now that the anime is out and stole the entire show, the manga feels underwhelming now.

I wouldn't work on it myself.
