after, what, 9 games of armored core? about half of that were good in my book.
the armored core games i liked: for PS1: armored core (the original for playstation) armored core: Master of Arena for PS2: armored core 2 armored core 3: silent line that's all the games i consider good. Ninebreaker sucked ass in the sense that it had no storyline and no computer versus ability. And exactly why they took out the AI training from silent line is a mystery to me...that feature made silent line a lot of fun. I have yet to play either of the armored core: Nexus games, so they're excluded from my positive ratings list. the new armored core games are Armored core: Last Raven (the last armored core coming out for PS2), and Armored core 4 (i think its project name was Project: Force) for PS3. the latter looks awesome in graphics, i hope they improve the versus ability and put in the AI function for both AC 4 and AC Last Raven. my best AC unit is probably from ninebreaker. it has the Hydra2 backweapon + the lightweight quad missile extension for added missile attacks (so that for about 3 shots i can launch up to 12 missiles simultaneously at the enemy). For personal preference i use blade arms, since the waves it fires are pretty strong if they hit, and cornering an ammo-less enemy becomes much easier. i also decked my AC with an EO core to whittle down the enemy AP about 2000 points if my missiles miss or if they dodge my blade-ing. one of the things i hate about ninebreaker is that the stupid "tests" in training mode are near impossible to complete if you don't know what type of AC parts to equip and they're tedious and don't help your actual piloting ability any. yes, i'm an armored core fanatic. >.> |

Try me, Tsuki.
I can beat the hell out of somebody's ass with a good Finger Machine Gun, a round of Mortar Shell Missiles, a pretty light back Laser Cannon, and a good slash from a Moonlight Saber matched with maximum rebel point. All, on a very light humanoid leg pair, and almost average armor equipment. |

Eh... Hmmm... Light legs, all that equipment??? Hmmm... Low class equipment I'm guess... Lower class, the lighter they are...
Hmmm... What can hurt pretty much kill something that mobile... Maybe missiles that could max lock 6 times could work... Maybe a rifle on the side and a quicker turning ability, then I think I maybe okay... |

once you've mastered the basics of the AC controls (IE jumping at the right times, knowing how to dodge hordes of missiles, dashing and overboosting at the right times, and of course running and aiming), you can pretty much adapt to any weapon outfit you put on your AC. Hitting with your blade is probably the hardest offensive skill in armored core. especially the parrying blades for the right arm...
the finger machine gun is probably the most effective AC smasher in the series. it does about 23 points of damage to the enemy AC per tenth of a second (this damage is including the average AC defense). multiply that number by the weapon's 240 ammo, and you get 6520 points of damage in about 4 seconds. the only drawback to this weapon is that it eats up 60 bullets in one second, so...yeah. better have a storage core equipped with some backup weapons. oh, and you have to be pretty close for all the bullets to hit. my favorite blade is the crest-manufactured blade with 2300 attack power (in NineBreaker it would be 1800-something. they made the blades weaker...). If i use its blade wave, the wave explodes on impact just like a grenade. You have to be pretty fast and accurate to hit with this blade since its range is only 3(silent line)/5(ninebreaker). one of my fun ACs is decked out with dual finger machine guns, a machine gun EO core (the crest one), hydra2 backweapon with extra missile extensions, and a moderate radar. i usually kill the enemy within 10 seconds of opening fire with the dual finger machine guns and activation of my EO. if they have high def and over 9000 ap i barrage them with missile warheads first. from time to time i still play the old PS1 armored core games. the booster system on those are FAST. they practically make the overboost system on the PS2 games obselete and pointless. The story is much better in the PS1 games as well. Especially when Raven's Nest betrays you and sends Nine Ball after you in Master of Arena. That was awsome. wow long post >_> |

last ac i've played as AC2 and AC2AA. I suck at it, only playing good with overweight ACs.

Huh??? How can you play good with overweighted AC??? Maybe if you tactically drop one of your weapon in the beginning of the battle then pick them up later on after finishing using up one your other weapons... Other than that, can't really see someone owning another person, since an overweighted AC can't really move...

here are some restrictions:
An overweight AC cannot be launched to any mission or battle. An AC with insufficient energy cannot be launched as well. Once out of ammo, THERE WILL BE NO REPLENISHMENT, so thrift it up. Some equipment need the AC to kneel before firing. But this can also be avoided once you have rebel point up to level 2. |

for the original ps1 ACs and AC2 and AC2AA yes. for AC3 and up, overweight is allowed, but your AC suffers movement loss (by getting 100% completion in the PS1 ACs, you can also be overweight, with the same movement loss effect)
i haven't discovered the rebel ability in AC 3 or Silent Line yet. And NineBreaker basically gives away the blade wave ability for free at the start of the game. (i still don't know how to get rebel points on NineBreaker either---shooting grenade backweapons while flying would be nice...) the best rebel ability IMO is being able to fire backweapons without having to kneel. Oh, and if you ever hope to defeat the best AI armored cores in the arenas or during the storyline, overweight is NOT going to help you, even if you're decked out with the most powerful weapons. They'll go Speedy Gonzales on your poor overweight mechanical ass. to get really good at armored core, buy the original and play that over and over again (it helps that in the original AC games your amored core unit moves much faster and rebel points are relatively easy to obtain). BTW, if you want to fight in cockpit mode in the original AC games, press square + triangle + start, unpause, and you'll be in cockpit view. really hard to fight like this, but it's fun and in the event that you do defeat an enemy AC you'll feel like Hiro after he killed those two mobile suits in the first episode of Gundam Wing. All Happy. @yuber: the rank 2 guy fires nothing but grenades. and since the basic model only has average defense(and since the ACs in AC2 move relatively slow and overboost only lasts so long), how'd you manage to kill him? Unless you just made him go out of the combat area or he ran out of ammo... |

just wait for Armored Core: Last Raven to come out. It's the last AC game on the PS2, so it should be worth it (i hope). They're implementing a new system where each of your AC's parts has a seperate AP, and once the AP is zero for that part, it is destroyed.
ex: enemy fires 12 missiles at you in one shot. You can't dodge, and it hits, but it will only destroy the part that it hit, not the AC unit itself (unless it hits the core) anyway, should be fun... |
