WTF!! O_O####### you're kidding me right? Cos I don't find that funny at all!!

What are you trying to say? Huh?

For the record I wasn't the first quoting comments, I quoted translations lines at first and gave a personal opinion that's all.

You took what I said to prove to me and all, for the sake of Siesta, that she's important in the story and that her actions make sense and are beautiful. If you didn't want to be criticized by me then why you didn’t "write an independent post about what you think" like a deep portrait of Siesta and just ignored what I said instead of tossing me up a "bah you're all wrong that's normal, I'm gonna explain you…" and after saying "there's no argument out there you searched for".

On the contrary if you wanna correct me don't be surprised to get a reply, the novel being the source of your argumentation when I quote you I criticize also the book, your opinion being just the extension of the author's thoughts (after all, you liked the book, you’re smart, so obviously your interpretation is at 80% what the author wants us to believe in) then the "all you said goes under "personal preference"" is the same for you in a certain way..

You know me well, if you start criticizing or using what I said for your own purpose, I won't let it go so easily even if you pretend that you don't want to oppose opinions by using the novel at will when necessary.

Besides, if you don't want me to criticize or comment your precious opinion, stop giving me ammos cos I won't throw them to waste, and don’t deny the fact you weren’t warned. It’s not the first time I react like that with you, Sydney2k, VictorWong or any other people I don’t agree with. Geez I’m stupid to act like that? fine. But you’re not smarter playing my stupid game.
And don't tell me you think I wasted my time on long (sigh) posts just to point out "what I don't like in your point of view and nothing about the book and its extended reasoning"… that's insulting. You placed yourself as a "representative" of the novel by explaining us and summarizing us the story, you can't hide behind it to express your opinion and right after say that I'm attacking “only” your opinion. You hit me below the belt.
Do you really think I'm so mean and stupid or what? Just for personal attacks?
Do you really think I haven't any consideration/appreciation/respect towards you?
Because if it's the case I'm sorry you're totally wrong, and I'm really deceived you view me like that.

I recognize I'm not a "calm" person but more a cynical and ironical one, I 'm (too) serious and (too) eager on topics I reply lengthily on and that ISN'T spitefulness when I oppose my opinion to other ones, but really if you can't bear it leave me on a corner and do not start refering to my stupid comments.

Heck, you should have stated what you disliked about my manners at the start, I wouldn't have bothered myself battling confusingly with my engrish to post something that I hope made sense.

Oooooooooook. I won't fight anymore or a vein on my head will explode.
You're right, put on me the etiquette of the bad stupid guy if you want... I'm sorry, I can't blame you for being the only one posting interesting things and trying to correct the persons that dare say what they think.

Now you can be relieved you won't see me posting anymore where you're active cos if "I'm like you described me previously" nobody here wants to see again the same bad movie, so by respect for the others (yes I'm not as important as you in this board, I admit sincerely) and as I don't want to "hurt" you again, I'll avoid "at all cost" any encounter with your opinions, interests or whatnot.

Of course I might mistake and I might totally misunderstand what you tried to say or imply, but no matter what were your thoughts, in the doubt, I stop from now on interfering with you or doing anything that might concern you, for the sake of your health and the others.

(this excludes obviously: work on AQS projects, well if it goes like this.. only for a short time I guess; and the last thing the despicable person I am was preparing for the "special date" tsssk tsssk I'm really a despicable person sleep.gif)

All of that being said *pants*, your last post made me lose my nerves for real, and also it hurt a lot my pride. If that was what you were aiming for, well done -_éd

Then… Ciao Sushi-Y, you killed me well -.-/

PS: To the other readers here, please accept all my apologies for my loss of temper sincerely. Please also forget all that happened as it seems it turned more on "personal attacks" than any "stating points of view" or "one-sided argument" or whatever how you call it. Criticize/flame me if necessary to get peace rulz this thread again, anyway I won't put my opinion/comment/spam here anymore, and this time I'm not joking, I don't like my integrity to be hanged at Sushi-Y's gallows. At least I hope you hadn't fun seeing that, cos me, I still don't laugh at all. Go freely, the "Demon" has been resent to Hell.

o_O

Well... no wait I have to do it one more time

o_O

...Ok

Looks like I seriously pissed someone off. Now then...

First of all, Sox, it seems like my last post really offended you, for that, I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention.

However, I stand by what I said because I DO feel like I was being attacked for stating my own views, perhaps you felt like you were only putting up a good debate, but to me, it felt like my views were being downplayed. There is a difference between "stating your own view on something" and "downplaying someone else's view". Similarly, there's a difference between talking "to" someone and talking "at" someone. Perhaps it doesn't apppear that way to you, perhaps it looked like my posts were downplaying yours, I don't know, and it probably doesn't matter now.

Either way, this discussion is obviously over.

I always try to end my posts on a bright note, so, for no reason:

Yes, it's a no-pan shot.

at the moment, he sucks in combat. i guess that's supposed to be so, since he didn't have combat experience before. (this is excluding his ability to suddenly become a sword master with his runes)

Actually they're based on real runes.

Elder Futhark to be exact.

Haven't Sushi-Y mentioned "Gandolfr" and referred to it as Saito's ability somewhere... like a few posts and pages back?

Anyway... I didn't know that Henrietta and Louise were osananajimi... and looked awfully cute when they were kids for that matter. smile.gif

These runes did not come from any of the Tolkienic languages - rather, they are based on the same source.

The runes shown on Saito's hand are Futhark runes (most likely of the elder variety due to the fact that France [Tristein] exists in the area once occupied by early Germanic/Nordic [Germanian] peoples). The runes transliterate to GUNDOLF.

If the familiar's runes were drawn from Tolkien's Angerthas Daeron (early Quenyarin [High-Elven] Cirth), the resulting transliteration becomes SSALHNDUTG ... blink.gif ... in other words, it doesn't work well. (The runes on the introductory page of The Hobbit are written in Futhark, but the runes on the title pages of The Lord of the Rings are written in Cirth. Tolkein derived his runic writing system from the Futhark runes, but modified the character usage to fit his systematic elven languages.)

Sorry for making myself sound like one of those "know-it-all" freaks, but I thought I should clarify this runic discussion. (And I am a LotR know-it-all... most ...) Not bad for my first post, right? (Yes, my first post on AQS. I will introduce myself in the newbies area later ...)

Unfortunately, I don't read Elven, so I didn't know that. I remembered from somewhere that "Gandalfr" is the name of a Northern European fairy/spirit, and it seemed to fit the Japanese pronounciation, so I went ahead and used it.

Actually, there's more to the legend in the story, although it'll probably never be covered in the anime. A nursery rhyme for Brimir was revealed at the end of vol.7 ~ vol.8, that says:

---------------------------
God's left hand Gandalfr. The dauntless shield of God. With a great sword in his left, and a long spear in his right, he who protects my guidance.

God's right hand Vindalfr. The amiable flute of God. Controlling all beasts, he who carries my guidance land sea and air.

God's brain is Mioznitnirn. The book of God that is a cluster of wisdom. Accumulating all knowledges, he who presents my guidance with advice.

And one more person in the end....... Whose entry itself is kept from being recorded.......

With these four servants, I have come to this land.......

---------------------------

In that nursery rhyme, both ガンダルーヴ and ヴィンダルーヴ can be found as "Gandalfr" and "Vindalfr", fairies from Northern European legends.

By the end of vol.8, we already know the identity of two other Void servants beside Saito (Saito is the left hand, "he who can use all weapons"), and two other Void users beside Louise.

In any case, if the runes actually say "Gundolf", then I guess there's no mistake, although I'm pretty sure the names originally came from those Northern European legends.

Nice info Sushi-Y-hime.

Four servants and a fifth person?

A weapons master, a beast master, the know it all (Somehow I'm picturing Yue).

Could Mioznitnirn be Tabitha? I'm getting major Yuki vibes from her.

Four servants and a fifth person?

No, there are four void users and four servants, one for each user.

Louise is one of the four void users, and her servant is "God's left hand", Saito (Gandalfr/Gundolf).

In other words, there are 3 other void users out there, and perhaps 3 more servants as well.

So far, novel readers who have finished vol.8 already know the identity of the servants Gandalfr, Vindalfr, and Mioznitnirn (no, not Tabitha). As well as 3 of the 4 void users:

1. Louise, the master of the Gandalfr
2. The master of the Mioznitnirn
3. The 3rd void user doesn't know she's a void user yet (her servant would be the unnamed one in the rhyme, but she probably doesn't have one yet).

The master of the Vindalfr is still unknown.

I'd rather avoid naming them right now. It'd be meaningless if I just tossed names around here anyway.

--------------------

Ah yes, spending an hour to research and type a post, and attempting to preview it to find an error has occurred, and being forced to type what I remember. That's what I get for being a "noob". *gains exp. points, shifts alignment towards chaotic*

Anyway, Sushi-san, did you translate that poem from the novel?

I researched online and found on all relevant English webpages that Brimir is the name of the remaining mead hall after the predicted Norse disaster of Ragnarok. On Wikipedia, I was redirected to Ymir, the name of a frost giant in Norse mythology. (Scroll down to see a link to an article about the Babylonian Tiamat !! biggrin.gif ) However, I found no instances of Mioznitnirn or similar spellings anywhere (using Google, as if that matters).

The names Gandalfr and Vindalfr are correct (they respectively translate to Wand Elf and Wind Elf - obvious how LotR's Gandalf was inspired). Unfortunately, I was unable to find any more information about these names (again with similar spellings) on any English site.

My transliteration of the runes was only a transliteration. I believe that the runes were meant to represent Gandalfr, so I never had a problem with your translation. (Besides, I am impressed by your skills in translating Japanese text... *struggles to learn more kanji* - Yes, I am one of those insane language geeks.)

Do you happen to remember where you first learned about Gandalfr? Knowing this might help me with my research. (I am now obsessed with this aspect of Norse mythology - I enjoyed reading the Völuspá, a poem about Ragnarok, featuring the source of many place and people names from LotR, Ah! Megami-sama [Oh My Goddess], and Tales of Symphonia.)

Okay, you can stop reading my useless info now.

Sushi-Y is a girl.

Though lord can be used with other titles like lord mayor for females.

The female equivalent of lord is Lady.

Yeah, whenever I want to refer to something specific, I tend to just grab the novel from the bookshelf and quickly translate the part that I'm referring to. It's faster than trying to describe it. ^^;

I can't find anything on ミョズニトニルン (Myozunitonirun) either, so I went with the most Northern European-sounding spelling I got. ^^;

I think it was a Japanese site that listed some Norse mythology creature names in both katakana and roman letters. There wasn't much else there though.

Good thing Sushi-Y's doesn't aspire world domination. Judging by the blind adoration she inspires she would have a reasonable chance to achieve it.

Seems like Kirche got ripped off. The store owner was able to cop a feel and to get a nice price for a piece of useless junk.

Somehow, I THINK Athos's past comment of Sushi-Y posting summaries that can turn a person on suddenly came true. >_<

Haaaa... seriously, I wonder how many forum-faring fans actually read and understand the novels out there?

Note:
Sushi-Y, I think thenightshadow referred to that 4chan post that contained that "juicy" snippet of SaitoXSiesta action. I understand the guy, really..

EDIT!:
Just saw the raws for Ep 6... and if you haven't guessed who the hell Foquet is, then you have no right to read Sushi-Y's summaries. dry.gif

Wow, Sushi-y, your summaries are amazing.

Just a question, where is Montmorency in all of this? Every other major character seemed to have a part in the war.

You'll get your head blown off  biggrin.gif

That reminds me, you're still using that embarassing pic as your ava? ^^;

Although I don't know why you would want to use a pic where you get shot as an avatar, if you liked it:

Here, an updated one:

I just realized that I haven't drawn in ages. ninja.gif Still crappy. But at least I can draw blood sprays better now. ^^;

For the record, Anna likes dark clothings. No, not because they're easier to color or anything, ok!?

A, ahem, off topic.

Montmorency is either still back at the academy, or perhaps home. She was the first student to try healing the dying Mr.Colbert, and the first to pass out from exhaustion.

After that "terrorist attack", the academy was shut down. The remaining students probably either stayed in their dorms, or left for home. That's when Siesta went to help out at her uncle's (Scarron) store, and tagged along with them to Albion.

I want to thank all the other people who took their time to register here, it's great to hear from you all, and thank you for the comments. ^^

I will try to at least finish vol.7's summary soon, because the climax is still up ahead. Be patient. ^^;

================= (important announcement-ish thing)
Also, I have been approached by a few groups who are interested in translating the novel. The manga scanlation team (Kawaii Heavens) and the anime sub team (Kuroneko) as well as the guys over at baka-tsuki have all asked me to lend them a hand on the novel translation project.

While I'm flattered that there are so many people who want to use my help, I'm a little conflicted here because I can obviously join only one team (if I do join at all). If it's possible at all, I would hope that all 3 teams could try to collaborate with each other on this. Otherwise, I'll be forced to help one team but not the other two, and that feels a little unfair.

So I'll direct the leaders of all three team to this post, and let them make the decision on the possibility of a collaboration project among themselves. Perhaps we can create the main project forum in one of the team's forums and coordinate everything from there or something.

"I praise and thank thee, my Lady Sushi-Y for you have graced us with your presence and wisdom."

Calm down. ^^;

I thought that you would have been used to such praise by now... Everyone seems so desperate to register just to thank you for such hard work.

Supposing that you do accept an offer to translate the novel, would it be released in a text-only format (like thelostguardian's translation of the Suzumiya Haruhi novels) or would it be organized similar to the layout from the actual novels (with pics, etc.) ? I suppose that releasing the translated text concurrently with the development of the final version is possible as well. (I know that baka-tsuki is beginning this process with Haruhi, but a graphical release shouldn't be anticipated anytime soon. Although if all three groups work together for ZnT ...)

Do you happen to remember where you first learned about Gandalfr?

I think it was a Japanese site that listed some Norse mythology creature names in both katakana and roman letters. There wasn't much else there though.

When I was searching for info about Gandalfr, I think I might have seen a similar (if not the same) Japanese site. (I can read the kana, and yes, nothing much is mentioned.) It seems that most of the info available anywhere online is written in Norwegian/Sweedish. (darn, currently teaching myself Finnish ...)
