Other Magi-Ministra type pairs., Post your favorites, Past or current.

Magister Negi Magi isn't the first anime/fiction to use what are/were effectively Magi-Ministra pairs.

Since we've got three weeks before another chapter, how about giving two-to-four Magi-Ministra pairs you like from current or past anime/fiction.

Can you define "Magi-Ministra" pair more? I'm assuming you mean fighter (tank) plus caster (nuker), but you put in a lot of mixed pairs.

I mean, Slayers action focused more on the group of 4 than Lina/Gourry persay. All of the group is pretty capable in hand to hand, and Gourry does not really "tank" for Lina (except in a few early fights). I mean, how would you divide Zel/Amelia? Zel's the better close combat fighter... but he's probably ALSO a better caster.

Plus, even in Negima, many of Negi's minstra are bad on the frontline. Good thing he's a figher mage now, but if he went with backline caster, that would totally leave out the Library Trio as potential "permanent" minstra.

Also remember that "Ministra" is female. Rin/Archer would be Magi-Minister.

Does the Magi-Minister/Ministra team require some sort of romatic connection? I guess by Raquel-Shannon the answer is no (no incest jokes please), but I wanted to make sure.

Naruto would work well for this but the teams operate in threes. However the idea would be to pair someone who prefers taijutsu with a ninjustu/genjutsu user.

Asuma (Minister) and Kurenai (Magi) works pretty well as tank/nuker.

Shikamaru and Temari, though I'm not sure which is which. Temari's better at absolute wreckage but I have trouble calling Shikamaru a tank....

Honestly most other animes I can think of seem to operate more in teams that don't break conveniently into Magi/Minister pairs.

In video games, JP style console RPGs do provide tons of examples, but also many exceptions...

Squall/Rinoa (FFVIII) - not mechanically (magic is wierd in that game)

Steiner/Vivi (FFIX) - no strong emotional connection but they have combo techs

Ah! I did forget the Minister-Ministra bit.

Perhaps a better definition would be mage-parter. Mostly I meant pairs, 'tank-nuker' as a base, but mixed-style also aceptable, who fight together. (Frodo-Sam would qualify, though neither is really a mage. Zatch-Kiyo would also qualify.)

Romantic interest is a plus but not required. (I would count Zel-Amelia, and Fellia-Xellos in a romance category, though Fellia would never admit it.)

Naruto might be an exception. (Forgot the trio style teams.) Nakahito(talisman user,) + three Steel Angels(various tank-types,) is stretching things. Negi + 31 would be un-acceptable.

Mostly I was thinking about the different fantasy stories and anime people may have read or watched, but because of SF and Hi-Tech, there might be pairs from that type of genre as well. (Does Neo have a 'partner?') Any parters in old Brian Gibson cyberpunk?

Both use white magic. But recall, Paladins are faith warriors. So the Paladin would probably be a demon killer, excorcist, etc. Different sub-catagory of White Magic.

Well, it really isn't magic oriented, but Takamine, Kiyomaru/Gash Bell... (Kiyo/Zatch Bell for those who watch the dub...)

Though I'd probably have to say that my favorite pairing in that show is probably Reira/Al... (<- I forget Reira's bookkeeper's name... Alber-something...)

It's "Turtle and Ermine?" (Lizard and Ermine?)

Well, Tama can preform a naked blade stop, and is armored, and Kamo(Chamo?) can use a little magic, so I guess that would work.

Now, if you mean Johnny's Tama, then it's a tank so big an enemy won't see the magi riding it (Kamo) as they are trampled into the dirt by a ton plus of stampeding lizard.

Filia/Xel: Im probably biased because of the anime thing of 'hate leads to love.' He was a bastard-demon in human form who slew many dragons, and she a powerful Gold dragon in human form, who just might be able to take him. But it would be a war of mutual annihilation. Bad for both, so they worked together, and I guess they felt less animosity for each other in the end. (Unrelated: They are are common pair in dou's.)

The FFIV Paladin is mostly a straight up physical fighter with a very small smattering of White Magic: Cure1, Cure2, Exit, Heal, Scan, Sight. Basically Cure 2 was his most used spell, and that was out of battle to give Rosa's MP a break. Paladin-type classes in FF do not tend to have a "specialized" spell list like D&D.

Basically as a Minister/Magi pair, Rosa would keep Cecil healed as he wrecks stuff. She's pretty weak on offense but it works.

edit: I'm not sure about Filia/Xel. They do not have a "flirty abuse" (like Gourry/Lina) relationship but one based on genuine hatred. Xellos is a demigod (almost) of pure evil, and Filia is a mortal (dragon, but still mortal) being of mixed good and evil. It's not so much as they would never admit it as that at the end of Slayers Try, they are probably not going to try to kill each other on sight. I think they moved from "immediately violently hostile hatred" to "delayed violently hostile hatred."

Well, I guess my threads gonna croak...
