QUOTE
Microsoft has responded to the findings that the Xbox 360 has a 54% failure rate with in a way which raises more questions than it answers…

An MS PR flack glosses over the failure rate, only saying that they have a good warranty and are trying to improve the design:

“Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry. We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems.

Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of ‘most played console’ and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.”

Curiously, they don’t dispute the 54% failure rate itself…

Well now they have a back up system in the event they lose internet access. heh.gif

Anyway, something to cosider is that the story origanates in AFRICA. As a whole the contenient doesn't have the same infrastructure that the US or UK does.

I'd be more suprised if the articale said the same thing for somebody doing the test in London.

Really?
How quickly can you upload 4GB to anywhere?
My home link upload here in Oz is 0.82MBit/s (ADSL2+ maximum is 1MBit/s) so it would take me at least 2.5 hours at full speed if I could get the maximum 1Mbit/s (i.e. if I was closer to the local telephone exchange than I am)
Of course you can get faster links here, but the cost and setup are very high.

My comment was more of a "I'd expect the pigeon to win pretty much anywhere - not just in SA"
i.e. it's funny, but true, in general, that a pigeon can transfer 4GB faster than the internet over those sort of distances.
If they upped it to 2 x 32GB USB then sneaker-net (plus catching a plane) would probably be faster than the internet to anywhere within any country to somewhere else in the same country ...

Hmm - self defence?
I wonder what weapon the robber had.
If he was weapon-less, a death sentence for attempted robbery does seem a little harsh ... ... remember that next time anyone in the USA considers stealing anything biggrin.gif

Maybe in Texas, but not in most states.

In most states the force used to "resist" the robbery has to be proportional to the force used to attempt robbery. So unless the would be rober was threatening deadly force the student might face charges of possesion of a deadly weapon, reackless endangerment, or manslaughter charges. It all depends on the DA, county and state it happened in.

And while he may not face criminal charges. He may face civil charges of wrongful death if the family of the "vicitm" decides to push things.

heh, ok.

I think it was in the most basic terms of self defense. He tried to ward off the burglar with the threat of his sword. The burglar lunged - swing the sword around would surely be the most immediate option, messing around and doing something else would have increased his risk of being injured from the attack.

Well, I'm sure the police have asked him a ton of questions by now. And from the article it looks like the robber had a history of doing it, which the police are likely takeing into account.

Meh, the way I see it. The robber had his luck run out by trying to rob this kid.

For that one I was just checking the Canned Dogs blog. They occasionally post some obscure Type-Moon news on there.

For example - instead of busily working away at their visual novels which are now about a year overdue, they're lunching with and giving signatures to Video Game legends. (I want a signed copy of Kara no Kyoukai (but in decent English) too...)

So wait Type-Moon is roughly a year overdue and basically bullsh*ting around?

Shouldn't their editors, managers or whatever be screaming at the to get their stuff done?

Anyway, I'm not sure what's more disturbing. The fact that people actually need that sorta how-to guide, that it actually got published, or someone actually thought up the idea to begin with.
