OK, simple question smile.gif
So when one disk fails ... how does he work out which one needs replacing biggrin.gif
Yeah you gotta be sure you can easily track the markings on the SATA controllers to devices ... and then to the disks in the disk manager ... to work out which one is which

Well, considering 6TB of SATA HDD only costs about $900 these days ... but as SSD ...
(My main file server at home uses 4.45TB of HDD disks ... most setup as RAID1 ...)

1TB HDDs cost around 100 or less, 1.5s around 120 USD, iirc. You can get 6TB for 600 USD or less.

It's an e-peen machine. Pure and simple. But I'd hit that to play Crysis. Just for shits 'n' giggles so that I can actually say I've played it on maximum settings. We make jokes about how I installed it on my old laptop and ran it on the lowest settings and even then, we all expected my laptop to start smoking and catch fire or something (it didn't, it just delivered slideshow-like frame rates).

is crysis THAT intensive? but man, even if it's just a show-off setup, i'd love to have that (without the associated costs). it takes my 5 yr-old laptop 30 seconds to open FF :|

If it's the original Crysis, then yes. Crysis Warhead has some engine optimization improvements that make it look better with less processor power, but the original Crysis doesn't incorporate those improvements. Also, it's easy to run Crysis on max settings at a lower resolution, but 1920x1080 Full HD gets very taxing, very fast, not to mention higher resolutions. But the problem there that usually graphics quality is limited by the GPU, not the HDD access speed.

Actually, I'd wander what game max settings would be in any way dependent on HDD speed ...
HDD speed doesn't come into it at all during game play except during scene/area changes ... unless your computer doesn't have enough RAM and then the game would be slow as hell anyway due to swapping no matter how fast the HDD/SSD is

Crysis is one of those games that might be taxing on HDD speed if you have a low-speed connection. It has a varied environment meaning it has to lead new textures for each level, and considering the size and detail of the textures, you'd need a ton of memory on your GPU's to keep everything running.

They said they put in 2 Radeon 4870 X2's, so that's 2GB of RAM (technically 4GB, but it has to be mirrored so only 2GB). A big level of Crysis might need that much space for just the textures, not to mention sound files, etc. But indeed, the bottleneck is usually the GPU power and its ability to render all of those textures, not the loading speed. A better test of the system's ability to run Crysis is the time the game needs to load a save file or start a new level, where the GPU must rapidly retrieve all of the texture files and meshes stored on the HDD's as well as the basic saved game state.
