So, I have, from time to time, read a few western comics, but never really gotten into it because of the perceived difficulty of obtaining said comics for reading. The local comic store is always an option, but the expense prevents me from going through and easily finding things worth reading.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I just finished Superman: The Last Son of Earth right now, and it's pretty awesome. |

Iron Man: Extremis
IMHO it is THE Iron Man comic to read. Gorgeous art, good story--and the reason why the Iron Man movie got made in the first place. It's more Sci-Fi than your typical superhero comic. |

as a GL fanboy...
the current on going series BLACKEST NIGHT you might want to go with "Sinestro Corps War" and Green Lantern Rebirth EDIT A classic read (albiet it might be very very confusing): Crisis on Infinite Earths Also, some non-GL, villain focused ones like Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, Batman: The Killing Joke, and Joker (by Brian Azzarello) For elseworld (as in DC's "what if" scenarios), i do recommend Superman: Red Son (remember, in Soviet Russia, comic book reads YOU) What you SHOULD avoid: FINAL CRISIS (cause it's a freakin' mess) and on a different note: Superboy-prime!!! good point.. i should get that as well
some more sugestions the "Death and Return of Superman" is a bit of a fun read... albiet a bit annoying, IMO... just like Goku, why won't he stay dead!? also.. yeah.. why don't they give superman a green ring in the current continuity? i mean.. pfft! wonder woman got a vio.. i mean PINK (star sapphire) ring, Barry Allen Flash got a Blue ring, Atom an indigo, Scarecrow a yellow, Mera, Aquaman's wife, a red ring, and Lex Luthor an ORANGE ring... he's just gonna go steal 40 more cakes. And that's terrible! instead he gets a black one and is now an undead This post has been edited by shaoron on Jan 7 2010, 09:49 PM |

I miss the old spawn. One of my favorite comic book anti-heroes.
![]() I'm still pissed that Todd written off Al Simmons to kill himself. Another recommendation in my list is Wanted. ![]() The comic is ten times better than the movie. I'd rather see a league of super-villains wreak havoc and killing off superheroes than some group of self-righteous assassins who curves bullets and getting their targets from binary codes in fabric. The fact that I loved the game attracted me to this. It has a great storyline. EDIT: OMG ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THIS! GET BONE TOO! IT'S AWESOME! ![]() |

Oh come on shao. Did you really expect DC to just give up on this cash cow?
Besides, this is just one in a series of "events" that has turn me off to comics. You wind up haveing to read a dozen titles to get the whole story. With some of those titles barely haveing any connection to the main plot of the event in question. This post has been edited by Trowa on Jan 11 2010, 09:53 PM |

I must admit, that comics have slowly lost their sway for me. Too many of the artists became messy in an attempt to become 'realistic' (I prefer the styles of more classic artists like John Romita Snr. and Jnr, Mark Bagley and George Perez), and many of the stories just became too convulated.
While they can work, I've not been a huge fan of the 'mega-whole-universe' events. I thought Civil War was a new low for Marvel and basically stopped following the mainstream books. Never been quite as into DC stuff, although some of the older Batman stuff from around the Dark Knight reboot was pretty good. I've thought that Blackest Night has been pretty good in the bits I've followed. Recommendations? I really enjoyed the snappy writing and awesome art in the first 100+ issues of Ultimate: Spider Man; excellent retelling of the Spider-man Universe. The Ultimates chapters 1 and 2 are also really good, breath-taking art and a modern, quite mature story. Hmm, the recent run on Captain America (culminating with the Captain America: Reborn series) has been very good as well. And that's probably about it in terms of comics for me in recent years! |

If Hal is out because of Parallax, than Kyle is out because of Ion. Although I don't think I'd have minded if Kyle had gotten it. |

Heh, and that's why we love the jerkarse in question.
I find his interaction with Hal rather amuseing, and would find his interaction with Guy even more so. Besides it wouldn't be Sinestro if he wasn't acting like space Hitler all the time. Fans would likely revolt if he went "nice". |

Have you read the issue where Sinestro Delt with Mongul?
the point where he stabs mongul with his own rings, he looked like Hitler, down to the hair! also... I find Larfleeze and Luthor's interaction much more amusing.. |

Heh, I found that scene between Sinestro/Mongul rather poetic in it's own way.
I mean Sinestro was just the right person to give Mongul the comeupence he so richely deserved. Only thing that would've made it better is if Hal had done it. And almost anything with Larfleeze has a pretty good chance of being amuseing. |

![]() I'm a little slow, but did anyone see Kick-ass at the movies? *&#@ man, that was one of the best comic book movies of all time. Had me on the edge of my seat and I was really surprised that Nic Cage could still be entertaining. This is probably the best year in movies to be a comic book fan. Coming up next, Iron Man II and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. AAAAAAAHHHHHH Edit: Oh wait, The Losers just came out too! Fun Fact: The 19 year old actor playing kick-ass got engaged to a woman about twice his age. Knocked her up too. |

Had a blast today, picked up a ton of stuff. My LCSes had great stuff going on. One had boxes and boxes of "actual" issues to give out alongside the official fare and everything off 50%, along with 2 free Power Rings. The other had Darth Maul come visit, tons of Storm Troopers, a dude with a badass Warmachine suit, etc.
I bought: Green Lantern: Rebirth Green Lantern Corps: Recharge and an issue of the Sinestro Corps War I got for free...a ton of stuff, including some issues of Green Lantern v4 and Green Lantern Secret Files, JLA, X-Men, and...a ton of stuff, like I said before. I also got around to reading Red Son, which is a great Elseworlds issue. Where have you been all my life, comics? |

Uhg please let it be something other than completely cliche and predictable. Meaning please for the love of god don't have Wolverine be bitten and spend several issues trying to fight it off. Only to finally win after comeing close to killing another member.
And I think they had the X-Men fight Dracula or someone in the late 70's/early 80's. Because I remember seeing a pic of Ororo as a vampire. This post has been edited by Trowa on Apr 29 2012, 11:31 AM |
